Info for Slow Days

It's going to be a bit slow around here for a while. Why? Chris' computer crashed... again. Expect another long wait people. I'll fall back onto Redux Recaps during this.
Until I get to one, here's some bits of info.

It's been a year since the AVGN uploaded his 100th episode to Gametrailers, meaning it's now free to go on YouTube. With this, the whole "He stole from IG" bullshit has started up again. I'd like to remind you that James took inspiration from an episode of FarfromSubtle's series "Awesome Video Games", a parody of shows from the "Xtreme 90s!" Not to be confused with their current series "Video Games Awesome" where they just play games on a couch. Come on Fraser, I'll forgive your homophobic comments about Ike from Fire Emblem if you start filming Awesome Video Games again.

Though where James likely got permission from FarfromSubtle (they're friends), Bores decided "I should just steal from them, nobody would notice". Oh, but I did. The dancing R.O.B., R.O.B. "accidentally" squishing the professor, the secret evil intentions, the battle at the end. Just because they were less popular than you doesn't mean nobody would notice. Ask LazyWorkCreations and his "fists of fury"
The original Gyromite video was uploaded in five parts between September and November 2007. You can view the whole thing in one part here: http://blip.tv/videogamesawesome/gyromite-3103492

Meanwhile, IG's subscriber count keeps dropping fast. According to Socialblade, Bores has been consistently losing subscribers everyday for the past 10 days. With no signs of stopping. Where did this massive drop come from? I can understand pissed fans leaving after the latest History of Video Games but for it to keep going down after that? Something else is at work here. Likely his mother LadyBuggin777.

http://socialblade.com/youtube/user/Irategamer

I've been told reports that people are getting banned from his channel for the smallest things (corrections, tiny bits of criticism, saying they watch other people, and so on). Either way, if this drop in subscribers keeps going this could have harsh consequences on his channel. Even loss of partnership, the only thing that's protecting him.
If you were banned for leaving a comment that wasn't insulting but merely giving advice or suggestions, please tell me. That is extremely unfair. But make sure to show the comment word-for-word so I know for sure.

Which leads me into the difference between "Good comments and bad comments". A good comment is one that offers suggestions and criticism in a concise manner. A bad comment does that but then adds insults to it. People don't like to be insulted, and if your comment gets deleted it's your own fault. It's not "censorship" if a comment that says "Fuck you faggot I hope you die" gets deleted. It IS censorship if a comment saying "It was too short, it could have used more jokes" or "It's pronounced Portal not Port Hole" gets deleted. And from I'm hearing, people are getting blocked from IG's channel for the latter.

That's it for now.

  2. Question. Is there an exact number of how many subscribers you need to be a partner or is it something else?

    1. It's not about subscribers, it's about views. It's about how much money YouTube can make from a user. The more popular the more likely they'll get partnership. Nowadays they just hand out partnerships like candy but back in 2007 it was a new thing and Bores' inexplicable popularity made money for the site.

If he doesn't make enough money for YouTube, they can drop him.

    2. This is the main reason he did the "pick me" contest.

People were visiting the URL two, five, ten, maybe twenty times. This made the people at YouTube viewing the stats think that he actually had that many people viewing and enjoying his videos.

      Delete
    3. Chris never became a partner because of his contests, ive been told by several people who have connections within YouTube, that the SOLE reason he became a partner was because they saw how pular the AVGN was and wanted a "less sweary" version for their family audience.

Of course they could have gone for so,some like Armake21, but his production values sadly aren't in the same level as Chris' and Spoony hadn't thrown his hat into the ring just yet.

Not sure why I wasn't considered, I've heard rumours it was because I'm British so wasn't qualified to be partnerised at the time, or because of my connections to Screwattack/AVGN back then.

    4. @Guru Larry

Of course, we all know it's not his contests that made Bores a Youtube partner in the first place. I believe what Shaolin Dave mean't is that Bores uses his contests to keep people subscribed to his channel so that he doesn't lose his Youtube partnership.

      Delete
    5. Right, the contest didn't make Bores a partner. The contest were after that, and just made him seem like a more valuable partner than he really is.
Better stats means more money. B.S. contests means better stats with less effort.

Wouldn't be surprised considering his censored TMNT review and how he tried to avoid swearing all together in later videos.

    7. Well, YouTube had a thing during the whole google takeover that if you did make content that was of a more family orientated nature, they would promote your shows a lot more. In fact they would purposly bury a lot of videos with more adult content in them.

But YouTube would never remove a partnership because they've become less popular or stop making videos, plenty of former partners have moved onto making videos on Blip because of the far higher revenue, but they haven't had partnerships revoked, your friend FarFromSubtle being one!

unless its under exceptional circumstances, the only way to have a partnership revoked is from copyright strikes. Which Chris is ironically guilty of infringing.

  3. The biggest test would be to write a really positive review, but include "the only draw(l)back was when (blah blah blah), but other than that..." and see if THAT got deleted. It wouldn't surprise me one bit. He probably still shares a bed with his mother.

  5. Wow, you're actually trying to defend James obvious plagiarism of Bores?

So when IG does it, it's plagiarism.

But when AVGN does it, it's ok because some reviewer no one's ever heard of did it and he and James so happen to be friends.

That's more retarded then Bores logic!

Speaking of, didn't YOU just block somone just for giving criticism? (I'll know if I'm blocked or this comment is deleted)

    1. @ "Unknown"

      Welcome back.

Angry reviewer plays shitty game featuring R.O.B. then has to fighter R.O.B.

Well, angry reviewer plays shitty game featuring x then has to fight x... 91.66% of what you claim James plagiarized from Bores could be simply referred to as "The AVGN Formula", established in October 2006, long before Bores started reviewing. Just replace x with "Jason Voorhees", "The Joker", or "Bugs Bunny".

Angry reviewer plays shitty game featuring R.O.B. then has to fight R.O.B.

16.66% is redundant, so it's really only like 8.33%. That's assuming that James Rolfe had no idea who/what R.O.B. the robot was until seeing it in Bores's review and thought "I should review that, too!".

Watching Jame's review, there is ZERO evidence that he even saw Bores's review, much less took anything from it. Nothing in that review reminded ANYONE (including you, troll) of anything from a IG episode that wasn't already in an AVGN episode before IG was even around.

That's part of the reason I hate the AVGN formula so much. James used it too much, it was old and tired even before every other reviewer started emulating it.

      Delete
    2. Hey! I knew you'd be back, Ozzyman.

      Delete
    3. Incase you hadn't noticed, James performed much better at reviewing R.O.B.'s games because he didn't torture R.O.B. endlessly; he gave R.O.B. a bit of a personality by giving him a voice and an ability to communicate. Have you ever seen Bores' R.O.B. speak actual human words?

Plus, with Ozzy, he was a recurring offender to the blog who just keep rambling on over the same subjects for weeks because he was uncomfortable (maybe jealous) with James' funding for his movie.

      Delete
    4. "Speaking of, didn't YOU just block somone just for giving criticism? (I'll know if I'm blocked or this comment is deleted)" What you have failed to realise is that giving criticism and starting an enormous flame war are two completely different things, and by association, blocking people for the former is completely different from blocking people for the latter.

You gave criticism, whereas Ozzyman, the guy who Dan blocked, started a flame war and refused to listen to reason. That is what Dan blocked Ozzy for.

Shaolin Dave called Dan out on being "too lenient", which I agree with. What he should have done was block Ozzy the moment it degenerated into a flame war. What he did was let the flame war go on for multiple posts.

That makes it clear to me that Dan is, or at least was, reluctant to block people for even legitimate reasons, whereas Bores blocks people the minute he realises they aren't gonna blindly like what he puts out.

      Delete
    5. @Justin De Lucia

Hey there, now! Ozzy himself used the jealousy argument and we called him out for it Let's not stoop down to his point by using it,otherwise we'd be hypocrites.

    6. Don't we all realize that Bores did his ROB video because ROB popped up in the background of the AVGN Nintendo accessory video then James held off doing one himself because Bores sniped the idea?

  6. I would comment, but he blocked me from his channel last year after I commented.

  7. If Chris' mother has access to his account and is banning people, it would account for his mass loss of subscribers. As when you ban a subscriber, they're automatically unsubscribed to you,

But I don't get these people who work on the Internet for a living bawl about their computer going down, if they rely on it for their job, then it seems idiotic to own only one, I mean they could at least own a laptop to fall back on. It's really inexcusable.

    1. Still, it is kinda strange to see such a big turnover all of the sudden. I really think people are leaving his channel because he barely does IG videos anymore. And even when he does, it's half-assed and plagued by his epic storyline of generic crap.

      Delete
    4. My friend and I came up with what Bay would do if he made (to be honest 'when he makes' would be more accurate at his rate) a He Man film:

The story would be a bout a young guy called Adam (played by Shia Leboeuf) who lives a normal life in LA until he finds a fabulous magic sword which makes him travel the 'Eternal Dimension' where he meets Woman-At-Arms (played by a scantily clad current pubescent-fantasy pin-up), The Sorceress, and a eubonics-speaking Orko. Who all fight against Skeletor, who wants to steal the sword so he can merge the Eternal Dimension with Earth-Realm. So it’s up to the band of heroes to fight Skeletor and his 2 second cameo brigade, during which Adam has to learn to master the sword so he can utter the line “I have the POWER!” (granting him CGI muscles) during the thrid act when Skeletor travels to LA without the swrod to blow the shizz out of it. Explosions.

    5. I remember a guy on the GameFAQs comic board came up with a Bay version of Spider-Man where a giant spider crashes into the Parker house and infects Peter with its serum. Also Aunt May would be played by Cindy Crawford.

    6. And Uncle Ben would be played by a black guy, because "LOL GETTIT?!"

  9. I'd have to also add that another of Chris' mistakes sadly is him purpously distancing himself from the gaming community and it's members.

I mean, how many times has Chris done a collaboration with another member, aside from that what the buck guy, and his ex-boss, swag. Never. Which is a shame on his behalf as he could have really boosted his reputation by working with others.

In his defence he might have been burned from the idea after Mike Matei did the dick move of publicly posting his request to James in 2007. Also that radio. Interview where they ripped him apart. But there were plenty of wasted opportunities that could have helped improve his popularity.

I do feel bad for the poor guy in all honesty, when you do finally sit down and speak to him, he's actually a really friendly guy.

    1. Well, I've heard people say similar things about Tommy Wiseau. Supposedly one of his co-stars stated something to the effect of:
"Tommy's a nice guy, but he's full of shit."

Terrible independent films aside, though, the way I say it Bores seems like he was just some schmuck who stumbled into success and didn't know what to do with it. Which I suppose isn't too different from other internet celebrities, except whereas guys like James Rolfe and Doug Walker developed their material and established strong connections, Bores more or less stayed stagnate, isolating himself behind his partner status. I'll give you that Mike Mattei and the radio interview probably spooked him and made him more reluctant to interact with the community, but that only wound up making him look more ignorant of the culture he claims to represent.

I do understand your sympathies, though. I have very rarely seen the capacity for good work in his videos, and I do wish he might accept help/advice, both from tenured reviewers like yourself and from the more reasonable critics. However, until he decides that he wants to be more than just a dancing monkey for YouTube and GotGame, I don't see that happening anytime soon.

So what you're basically saying is that James owns all rights to have video game peripherals/characters etc, interact with him?

Saying there's no similarities in James' R.O.B review with Bores' is like saying there aren't any similarities in Bores Back to the future or TMNT reviews.

Ignoring the fact that ROB attacked James(Since most character do attack him) there's still uncanny similarities.

    *James stares impatiently at ROB*

    *ROB throws Items at James*

*James uses reflective surface to deflect ROB's laser and blow him up*

    *James strangles ROB*

watch IG's ROB video and tell me he didn't do the same thing.

The robot talk was so annoying too. It sounded like Wall-E has sex with the Speak-and-Spell.(I'll be surprised if anyone gets that reference)

even I have to admit that IG's "I've been robbed" joke was barely more tolerable then AVGN's "Gyro" joke.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The Gyro joke had context at least. Chris' "I was robbed" joke had nothing to do with Aladdin, let alone the portion of the review he used it in (i.e. failing to get the red gem).

      Delete
    2. A) The gyro joke was reasonably well delivered, and thus actually worth a chuckle.

      B) James didn't waste a minute and a half making up a complaint to lead up to it.

Ugh, here I go feeding trolls again. I should really know better by now.

No, I'm not saying that James owns rights to video game characters or peripherals that interact with him. "R.O.B." is not owned by James. Neither "is Back to the Future" or "TMNT".

Guess what? Bores doesn't own the rights to "R.O.B." either!

So, Bores has done a R.O.B. review. No one else in the world can do a R.O.B. review now? He did it in the AVGN style, so that means that no one can do reviews in the AVGN style anymore, not even James?

      Here's another thing to ponder...

In the late 90's my two best friends and I make a great DooM mod but we lost the files when they were deleted without notice from the servers.

Around 2000, two people claimed they actually made the game. I called them out with proof that my friends and I were the original creators and they both closed their web sites in response to the backlash.

I'm almost certain that one of those two plagiarist was Bores. I posed as an ignorant fan last February asking if he'd made the mods, trying to trick him into revealing his plagiarism, but he told me he didn't make it.

However, a while later he started telling people he plays "Garry's mod" with that he DID make it.

So 2 or 3 people have claimed credit for my work, and one of them is Bores.

I'm pondering making a sequel or remake to this mod with my current game-making tools.

If I do, does that mean I'll be building off my own work, or will I be plagiarizing the people who plagiarized me?

    2. Chris would later come up with an explanation for R.O.B. becoming evil (Evil Gamer programmed him into killing IR), but James actually gave R.O.B. a motivation. A pretty fitting one that fits with the reasoning why the robot was made (to save the game industries).

As far as adjusting to the new system goes, I don't think that should be hard at all. If anything, it should be much easier to handle if it's more advanced. The only thing I could think of that would really make it somewhat difficult is setting it up.

  30. These two charts on this Cracked article were just so true that I have to share it.

    http://www.cracked.com/funny-3989-criticism/

The first chart relates to Chris himself. The second one (Except for Parry), to his fans and Ladybuggin.

  31. On the topic of my response to 27backspace, has Chris actually tried to claim any other mistakes to be facts?

To clarify, the statement about the Sega Genesis being made to compete with the Super Nintendo stands out. With most mistakes being pointed out he either:

    A. Refuses acknowledgement.
    B. Passes it off as a joke. (Claiming there was no way to get that Red Gem in Aladdin)

    ReplyDelete
  32. As a response to my previous comment (the reply button doesn't seem to work on my computer). I believe that the mistake was that he referred to the Game Boy Color game as a Game Boy Advance game or something similar and I'm pretty sure he tried to he tried to insist his misinformation was accurate.

  33. Bores uploaded an update video. Next Neo review will be Ninja Gaiden III. Oh joy...
He said it was Tecmo themselves that sent it. Oh please! We know it's GotGame that sends you the games, don't pretend you're important enough to get games directly from the publishers.

He also went on about his ghost hunting crap, and how it's "really groundbreaking" but I seriously doubt that. He also planned to make it a "TV pilot". Yeah, like that will happen. *rolls eyes*

    1. Bores trying to play Ninja Gaiden? That's a laugh. Then again, I did hear that they dialed back the difficulty on this one, and it seems as though the game has gotten mixed reviews. Who knows, maybe Techmo was looking to have it reviewed by someone too dense to notice any real flaws, or "flawls" as the case may be. I doubt it, though.

    2. and he will mispronounce Gaiden and Ryu.

      Delete
    3. Amazingly, he pronounced Gaiden correctly in his update video. Of course, he also said he had nothing but praises for the game, and if it's easier than previous entries, I can see why he would.

      Delete
    4. I guess one credit we can give is that this is one of those modern games he would review within the same month of it's release.

And on other news the Irate Gamer lost 133 subscribers today.

      Delete
    5. They might've made the game easier, but I'm sure he'll still complain about the difficulty, since the game will probably still be challenging.
And even if it's not, we all know that there exists no game that's "just right" for him. It's always "too easy" or "too hard". Only the Irate Gamer deals in absolutes!

      @blueluigi:
It's almost scary how fast he loses subscribers Oo

  34. @lordlaharl

Yeah, there are a lot of changes in the third game. It gotten mixed reviews for it but I still respect Team Ninja for trying something different.

  35. On another topic, anyone else get Kid Icarus: Uprising yet? I got it this weekend, and let me tell you, if the 3DS didn't have a killer app yet, it does now. I still don't get why so many people are so pissy about the controls. There's a bit of a learning curve, sure, but once you get used to it it works just as well as a dual stick setup, if not better. And before anyone brings it up, I am a lefty, and I use the circle pad pro, which also works just fine.

  36. I've added up all the subscribers he's lost since March 10th. The exact number is 1,279. If this keeps up, I have a feeling Bores will have to say goodbye to his partnership.

    @lordlaharl

I preordered Uprising, and got it on the first day it came out. Unfortunately though I can't play it because I have to sen my 3DS to Nintendo for repairs.

    1. Even if Youtube doesn't care about the subscribers, it still looks like his average AND total views per months are steadily decreasing...

  37. Why does Chris Bores look like the Doomguy's mug/face in Doom and Doom II?

    ReplyDelete
  38. im glad he is losing subscribers its about time he does it would be funny if he lost all his subscribers and he is left begging for new ones with his crappy ass contest videos when it would be too late

    1. Something tells me we're gonna' see a dramatic increase in contest videos for a few weeks. It will no doubt be Chris' shitty/lazy attempt to regain lost subscribers. Y'know, because producing actual content is for morons.

  39. Now I had a weird thought: Bores will make his grand "Walking around abandoned buildings finding absolutely nothing"-show revival a "TV pilot".

    ...

Why does he think that any channel will air this show? How is he supposed to keep up a weekly shedule?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Frankly, seeing what the History Channel shows these days I wouldn't put it past them... As for your other query If Bores somehow gets commissioned he might actually feel obliged to drop all other obligations he has and just make episodes.

      Delete
    2. The Ghost Hunting fad is dead but he might get it onto a smaller public access network.

      Delete
    3. According to one of the newspaper articles posted on his Haunted Investigators site, it was apparently shown on a Ohio public access Cablevision channel. In fact, the article showed the exact date and time as to when a certain episode is being shown. Not really sure how a series that lasted for 6 episodes would have worked on cable access though.

    4. @fattoler:

Even if he would somehow manage to keep a shedule, there's still the problem that Bores' previous work has been an ego trip. Even in his old Haunted Investigator show, he was pretty much the only guy credited. Getting a weekly timeslot on a TV channel will most likely result in said channel wanting to have some say in his production. How is he going to react on that?

  40. You know what I hate? Seeing Bores' newest Facebook post on his computer problems, and his fans responding with comments like "Maybe Dr. Mario can help" or "Use a Final Fantasy potion". I mean, does his fans really think statements like that are funny and is appropriate to use in a situation like that?

    5. not really IG-related, but why not just slap some omni-gel on it in that case?

  41. Well, Bores posted a new video on his channel. It's this review he did for notioncomics original game "Up Up Ubi." Not really sure if that's worthy of a recap since it's only a minute and 30 seconds, and it's done in the way of how his contest videos are done. However, there are a few moments in this video that I think is work mentioning.

First off, he says that notioncomics is also working on a game that might include the Irate Gamer himself. My god, I really hope that does not happen. But the worst part of the video is when he advertised Johnny Awesome's contest video that he made with the Irate Gamer.

Oh, and on the Facebook page where he posted the video, Bores said that he is heading to E3 this year. As much as I really hope Gotgame does not let that happen, they probably will.

    1. Saw the video, definitely not worth a recap. But I will mention it in my recap of his upcoming Ninja Gaiden III video (whenever that will be).

The bright side is that IG is just a cameo and it's not a full-fledged IG game (that would be a joke).
Ugh, yeah my Facebook informant told me too. "E3 wouldn't be the same without me" Screw you, your presence doesn't matter!

On a better note, fans are HATING that video. One person even compared him to iJustine. That is harsh.

    2. And he still can't pronounce "picture" right.

    3. @BatDanNight:

They're hating the video? Let me see... yes, todays subscriber loss seems to be aiming for a new record.

  42. Y'know, the update video was pretty funny at the end. IG finally brings up Johnny, but he doesn't realize that Johnny did the contest 2 months ago. Also, IG sounds extremely uninterested when he mentions him.

    1. @ DynamiteNinja

Someday, Bores will no longer be able to do IG and his other rip-offs won't catch on. He'll need to look for a real job. Had he never done these bad things, he could have started young and been successful. Now, anyone who might consider hiring him will see he spent a long time without a real job, and it won't take much for them to figure out what a lazy and untrustworthy tool he is.

    2. He likes "simple games that require no games", so he has no problem with EVERY game being like that.

"Targeted at a niche audience"? Yeah, that's probably why they dumbed the game down and reduced the difficulty. For the niche audience.

Man, he needs to play Dynasty Warriors - or rather not. He'll probably complain about Lu Bu being too hard...

      Delete
    3. He'll complain of the difficulty, story (it's a loose adaption of "Romance of the Three Kingdoms") and not like the very first game (it was a fighting game, don't ask). However, he'll praise the graphics and even shove some gay jokes. Either way, it would be insulting to the intelligence of the audience.

  46. I see his videos on Youtube that don't take long enough for a toilet break - 'cause I'm masochistic - and at the same time, farfromsubtle churning out 50 videos a month (slight exaggeration), each video as good as five times longer and infinite times better. What a world we live in.
