Quick Update About E3

It has begun. Bores has posted the first of (likely) many E3 videos over at GotGame.

Depending on what he says or does, it might be weeks before the E3 recap goes up. Knowing that he takes his sweet ass time to upload everything.
Having watched and written about the first video, all I can say is that this year will contain copious amounts of tedium and pain.

That's it for now.

  1. I wonder how many people actually give a shit about his E3 videos.

  2. You gotta give him credit for consistency-posting his E3 coverage a week or so after the show is over, and other networks posted theirs as it happened.

As for my thoughts on the show-I thought Nintendo made a good push for the Wii U and expanded upon the growing popularity of the 3DS; and I'm glad the 10-year lifespan for the PS3 is still in effect. If I could just scrounge up the $250 to buy one, I'll be chipper.

    See you soon, Dan.

  3. If I want to get coverage from E3 when it's fresh, I would check out IGN, Machinima, GameTrailers, Visogames, or any other major gaming website; these channels/websites actually get footage out the same day of the event, or soon after.
I don't understand why Chris takes so long to release his E3 coverage. It surely cannot take very long to upload them to Gotgame/YouTube, so why the delay?

  4. important: Fake Bores is at it again. Be skeptical of any emails claiming to be from him, even if it comes from irategamer@aol.com.

  5. Part 2 of the Irate Gamer's E3 coverage is up at Gotgame, where he looks at Nintendo's press conference.

  6. A few personal thoughts on Nintendo's conference, along with my predictions for Bores;

The Wii U looks pretty neat and has a promising launch library. Pikmin 3 looks great and is a sequel I've been looking forward to (I'm positive Bores has not had any exposure to the franchise and will pass it off as "too weird").

Arkham City Armored, whilst I already own the 360 version, looks interesting and I feel it's a clever choice for a launch game (Bores will probably make a bad joke about Nintendo ripping people off, despite the fact that ports of popular games are common for new consoles)

ZombiU looks really cool, and even if the game turns out average it's still a good example of how the WiiU's GamePad can be used creatively (Bores will probably ignore it or make a stupid "not for kids" remark)

Finally, the new Mario games; NSMB-U and 2, along with Paper Mario 3DS. Whilst I personally feel that these releases are too close to each other (they should probably wait a year or two before the next huge Mario game), I can't really complain. Also, I've been looking forward to a new Paper Mario RPG. (Bores will be boring and unspecific with the former, and will criticize the latter for stupid reasons and admit to not having any exposure to prior games).

    Well, those are my thoughts.

  7. Wow, Bores called Dance Central 3 Dance Party 3. Oh and he actually like Usher. Worst part is he spent almost the entire video gushing about MS conference and barely touched on Sony, completely ignoring Beyond or Assassins Creed 3 Liberation.

He also said that Mario doesn't generate as much revenue as COD. Funny since Mario Kart Wii sold over 30 million copies and both New Super Mario Bros games are over 25 million. And am I the only one who doesn't believe this guy played Pikmin 1 and 2, he had to think about which system those games were on.

  8. What do you think he'll call the Wii U Gamepad?

    1. I'm reserving my judgements until I actually try it. But initial impressions tell me it's a very capable controller with a multitude of uses. Could be useful for an MMORPG.

      Delete
    2. I think he was asking what Bores will say the Wii U Gamepad's name is...

      Delete
    3. Oh wow I completely misread that. This stuff is rotting my brain *throws candy away*, and these videos aren't helping.

As to what he calls it... not sure. Hopefully not a "joystick". How the hell did nobody tell him "It's not a joystick, it's a remote".

      Delete
    4. If he calls it the Wii U Joystick he seriously needs a reality check. More then usual.

      Delete
    5. I got my bets on "Wii U Tablet Stick."

    6. WiiPad? That does, of course, expect him to know what an iPad is.

  9. I think I found the game that Chris Bores would hate the most.

  10. Wait. He GUSHED about the microsoft conference? That was the WORST thing about E3 this year. Oh Bores. Why? Why must you test my sanity like this?

Anyway Nintendo was pretty cool. Looking forward to the WiiU, especially Rayman Legends.

  11. He's probably the only person who would care about Microsoft using Internet Explorer. He does seem that naive.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Bores seems to be only pick subjects he likes from E3. The Nintendo conference showcased more than Mario and Pikmin. What about Scribblenauts and Paper Mario: Star Sticker? They certainly discussed a lot on the Wii U Gamepad which Bores reported very little of. Bores also dismissed Nintendo Land very quickly just because there is "no fanbase" which why Nintendo spent more time on that game instead of New Super Mario Bros. U and Pikmin. He claimed to have played Pikmin, so why would he need a longer presentation on a franchise over a game he has never heard of. Clearly, Bores only cares for the flagship titles.

    1. I was wondering about the other games (Scribblenauts in particular), but then I remembered who made the video, and how much effort he probably didn't want to put into these videos.

  13. Some user online on his Ninja Gaiden 3 video commented saying, "i really love your channel but can you pleeeeeeeeeese review some more nes or something lie that" and Chris Bores' mom responded with "Wut? He JUST reviewed silver surfer recently. Geesh!" And i responded with "Oh hey it's wittle irate gamer's mom! Oh does my wittle irate gamer want his dirty ass diapers changed?" I'm probably going to get blocked, but seriously his mom shouldn't be so nasty to other youtube users.

    1. Another fun comment: When a fan asked when the next HOVG will be released, she stated that it is his "special" series that only happens once or twice a year.

Translation= My son is too lazy and/or unmotivated to release frequent content, so it is now his "special" series. So special to the point where it takes A WHOLE YEAR TO RELEASE A 5 MINUTE VIDEO.

    3. @Kukeduke:

Sooo if he's seriously with the NES appearing around episode 26+... yeah, this will take a little while.

    4. Also consider this, 1 episode per year so at one point he might be too old to continue. He will be at his 50s around episode 26.....

  14. Hi everyone, Irate Reader here! Weeee are here on the discussion page... pretty much looking at what everyone else has to say, so, I'm going to do the same here! (inhale) All right.

Basically, Irate Gamer has put up his E3 reviews, and this is where he talks about Lego Batman 2: Legend of the Heroes. In a nutshell, this is a Lego game that he reviews and also interviews a guy from, um, theee game! He thinks it looks exciting, and I for one am inclined to agree. Unfortunately, we didn't get a… WHOLE lot of information about the game itself, although there are villains in it. Now this is my idea of a game!

All in all, this review gets a number-one thumbs up from me! Until next time, then, Review on!

    2. You needed ONE more line in there:
"In this game, you play as Batman and Superman, the main characters. Who knows, maybe we might get other Mega Bloks licensed characters from DC, like maybe Spider-Man or the Avengermen!

  15. I have to say, I looked up pictures of the Wii U just to see what Nintendo was going for and it looks pretty damn sleek. If only I weren't dirt poor...

  16. I'm glad Bores continues to ask neccesary questions such as "Will this game have unlockable characters?". Unlockable characters in a Lego game?! That would have NEVER crossed my mind!
And I really needed to know if every character was going to get their own special abilites! I'm telling you, people: this man is ahead of this century!

  17. Ah, Bores. You never cease to unintentionally demoralize me.

  18. Well, he posted his video on the latest "Magic: The Gathering", and to his credit, he almost comes off as halfway knowledgeable about the subject. I do wish he would quit insisting that he has "exclusive coverage" of E3, though.

    2. I'm going to have to consult experts on the game as I know NOTHING about it. I don't play it, and I've never played it.

That way, they can tell me if he says/does anything wrong.

He has talked about MTG before on Facebook. The same experts tell me he's bad at it.

    3. It's a bit like Yu-Gi-Oh, only not shit.

    4. @lordlaharl

Bores was aware of Nicol Bolas being the main villain of MTG universe. That's the *only* thing he did right in that vid.

      Delete
    5. Well, at least he didn't ask if there were unlockable cards/decks/etc.

  19. So when do you think he'd be able to review another game without having the comments becoming moderated heavily by his mom? It just strikes me in a weird way seeing ONLY him (out of the famous YouTubers I know) getting so much white-knighting by one of his parents. That is making Bores out to be some kind of momma's boy (but I don't think he actually cares about that).

It's a different thing from having your family as special guests on your show, where they have some relevance showing up, like a family activity. Where is "ManBuggin" by the way?

BTW I don't know why that batman troll guy has an infatuation with the Nostalgia Critic.

  20. Well, he posted his Pikmin 3 video. Generic interview is generic. Though one thing I do have to give him credit for is that he finally seems to be calling himself by name rather than always introducing himself as Irate Gamer.

    1. Yeah, I couldn't find anything to write about. It was that generic.

    2. Might be worth pointing out how he hasn't updated theirategamer.com to provide links to any of these E3 videos. The top of his page begins to gesture toward doing this, but fizzles out and gives only one link, to the gotgame home page. Is keeping his site updated another case of too much toil for his fragile constitution to be bothered with?

    3. Whoops... well, now that's partially fixed. Props to Bores, I guess.

  21. I just watched the Sony/Microsoft press conference and...ugh, it's just all the little things and errors he makes that add up. Again, Bores got the title of a game wrong by calling Dance Central 3 "Dance Party 3" like his infamous "Call of Duty 3" moment last year. Calling the South Park creators "Matt and Trey Parker" like they have the same surname was another flub. Other little moments are calling Gears of War Judgment a "main course" but immediately segueing to Tomb Raider. Regardless of one's feelings on Gears of War, the series is a mega-titan franchise of Microsoft but Bores utterly fails at reading an audience as usual. It wasn't much of a trailer, but a brief summary or analysis would have sufficed.

As for the Sony conference, again, nothing really much to say except for that incredibly awkward closer where he attempted to say how SmartGlass and CrossPlay seem to be Microsoft and Sony's answer to the WiiU's tablet-esque controller. He just stumbled over his words and instead of doing another take, like any respectable filmmaker would do, he just went with a freaking blooper.

One positive thing I have to say is THANK GOD he didn't just play the trailers in their entirety and say "vewy coo" at the end for a whole video. There was still the problem of showing the presentations for much longer than necessary (did we really need to see the Usher' mini-concert in its entirety again?).

    1. I really hate to reply to my own comment but, holy shit, I just saw the Nintendo conference video and Bores made an error so baffling I have to respond. He basically said that Nintendo doesn't have a series like Call of Duty that can generate a billion dollars in one month and said Super Mario doesn't have that ability. IT DOESN'T HAVE TO BORES! Having a strong set of legs like New Super Mario Bros., which was on sales charts for YEARS generated an insane amount of revenue for Nintendo. It's desirable in creative businesses like games and movies to do that. It's why movies like Avatar and Titanic are still the #1 and #2 movies, they had a strong set of legs.

      Delete
    2. Really, the main difference between the sales of games like COD and the bigger name Nintendo titles is that while COD and the like tend to have huge sales on their first weekend, then see a quick decline in price, Nintendo titles almost always sell steadily over several years, only getting an official price drop after a much longer period of time. Hell, Super Smash Bros. Melee stayed on shelves for the Gamecube's entire lifespan.

      Delete
    3. Bores economic logic at its finest. Just like how he believes a Halloween cereal that our dogs probably wouldn't eat should be brought back. I know that Call of Duty is a perennial bestseller, but so is the Mario series. New Super Mario Bros came out relatively early in the DS' lifespan, but it sold around 27 million copies even as it gives way to the 3DS; even without its own Black and White versions. The Wii version had similar numbers. The two Super Mario Galaxy games have sold in excess of 17 million copies combined, and I wouldn't be surprised if a third was made for Wii U. Even Mario spin-offs like the sports games, Mario Kart, and entries centered around Luigi, Peach, and Yoshi do well for themselves. Activision's shooting games are here to stay, but Mario still has a broad appeal. I'm quite looking forward to New Super Mario Bros. 3DS and Wii U, as well as Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon.

      Delete
    4. Maybe it's Bores' own way of saying "Stop milking the Mario franchise, Nintendo!" But still, Mario has been around for longer than COD and has more exposure. Nintendo doesn't need to solely rely on Mario, anyhow. They have a stable of good IPs with Zelda, Donkey Kong, Metroid, the list goes on.

Also, lordlaharl makes a good point about the long term momentum of COD vs. Nintendo series. An average COD game might drop to $30 in the first few months.

      Delete
    5. COD games take years to price drop that low. Black Ops still retails for $49.99, for example. The question is more how steady do sales maintain before tapering off, and no game in the series is given enough time to showcase that since the next one retires it in the following year. The Bores also doesn't take into account that Call of Duty is released a little over a month before Christmas, whereas many Mario titles are not (Galaxy 2 released in May, if memory serves correct, as point of reference).

      Delete
    6. Yah, You referenced Yummy Mummy thing he did. I'm pretty sure the plants don't want to eat it. When it was out we has some of the boxes selling for clearance and they were nasty to the point we turned them into the dirt in the garden, and where we put it nothing grew for the rest of the next season!

It's getting quite annoying now to hear Bores talking just like the king of all COD fanboys, xxMysteriousmanxx! Nintendo doesn't need to pander to titles like COD because they have plenty of content to succeed without them.

      Delete
  22. Mario Bros. U today. Nothing much of note, other than Bores claiming yet again to be an old school gamer. Also, he ends the video on the main theme from Mario 2, which seems weird. "But Chris, you said that game was ass!"

  24. I just watched Irategamer's E3 video on God of War: Ascension. I must admit, this game looks pretty sweet. Hopefully if my friend gets this game for his Playstation 3 next year, I'll be able to try it out and see how it plays.
As for the rest of the video, I can't help but notice two things:
1.) Does anyone else think that Mike Hurst from Sony looks uncomfortable around Chris?
2.) Like lordlaharl mentioned, I find it funny how Chris, at the end of his E3 videos, calls his coverage "exclusive", considering the fact that his videos are released more than a full week after E3 has ended. I'm sure that other professional individuals/companies at E3 this year were able to show coverage of the event and games on the same day/week of the expo (June 4-6).
I agree with lordlaharl: Chris should stop calling his E3 coverage "exclusive" if he cannot release it during the week of the expo.

    1. The part I didn't get was when he asked about the humor in the game. God of War isn't exactly known for its comedic writing. I imagine Mike was just humoring him like "Uh yeah, there's definitely comedy in this game" and thinking "Is this guy serious?"

      Delete
    2. The only outright humorous scenes from the series that I can recall are any scene involving the boat captain and perhaps some of the more ridiculous finishing moves, depending on one's mindset. I suppose you could also count one of the bonus phone conversations from the first game. But yeah, Bores was really reaching on that one.

      Delete
    3. I'm guessing that he just said that to make his coverage "exclusive". When I think Greek Gods dying, I don't think humor.
