Uncensored Net Noise Revisted. A Brutal 10 Minutes That Still Haunts Him

Every couple days or so, I search the Irate Gamer by "Upload Date" on YouTube, just to see if he's uploaded anything new. I'm not subscribed so this is the way to check. The other day, the tags picked up a video from the Uncensored Net Noise channel. My first thought was "they have a YouTube channel now?" but after that I wondered if they were reposting that episode. Not exactly.

It was actually their November 25th 2011 broadcast, a clip show of the best moments. One of which was the now-infamous Irate Gamer interview.
It starts around 2 hours 21 minutes here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T_87_VTUuaE

For those that don't know: On June 6th, 2008, a small internet radio show "Uncensored Net Noise" invited Chris Bores for an interview, announcing this prior to the taping. When small time user (at the time) TheArchfiend caught wind of this, he informed UNN about his plagiarism and overall hackiness as a warning. What happened on the show... was glorious.

UNN did not pull any punches. Right off the bat they asked about the plagiarism accusations, and Bores realized this interview was not going to kiss his ass or stroke his ego. He began stumbling through his answers, trying to convince them that he is different, and that he wasn't inspired by James but "100 other people doing the same thing" (one of the first instances of this claim). He tried convincing us his Ninja Turtles review was different as he talked about five games instead of one and said different things about the first. Of course, nobody was buying it.
They ask him what the worst game he ever played was, and he takes a good minute to finally decide on MUSCLE because "there were so many". Even though at the time, his latest video was ROB Part 1 and most of the games he reviewed by then were actually good.
One host asked Bores if he ever played "Hack Attack", an NES game where you go around killing bad comedians like Gallagher. Of course, Hack Attack is not real. Whether Bores could tell he was joking or not was hard to tell from his voice (but he sounded kind of sincere when he said "nope, I haven't")
The hosts also call him Carlos Mencia and Carrot Top and mention they're bringing on a "real band" after his interview. As he hangs up, one of the hosts blurts out "you suck!"

As you can probably tell, the interview was brutal. There were other aspects but they weren't as controversial as that. Afterwards, their chat room went crazy, as they discussed how Bores just kept lying through his teeth.

The critics had a field day with this interview. It was mirrored all over the place, with Bores sending his fans out to flag it for copyright infringement (never mind that it belongs to UNN, who I'm sure had no issues with people uploading it). In the end, Bores' reputation took a severe blow. More so than ever.

A lot of people out there, even some critics, defended Bores, claiming the hosts were being mean. First off, they're a comedy/music-based radio show. Like Opie & Anthony, they're crass and over-the-top. Second, they probably were going to conduct a normal interview, and were curious about the plagiarism accusations. When Bores refused to give a real answer, they pushed until they realized this guy wasn't going to give a straight answer and decided to call him out on his bullshit. Sure, it may have been harsh, but nobody likes a liar.

The effect the interview had on Bores still lingers to this day. He no longer does interviews (that French gaming site being a rare exception) and his pile of lies continued to grow as he constantly changes his story about certain things. Like how those "100 other guys" are now "200 other guys" and after 4 years finally mentioned the AVGN. Sure, maybe if things went better, he would do things like conventions and actually meet the fans (what few he has). But that ended up not happening, and now he only goes to E3 because GotGame needs traffic. No matter how bad he is at taking interviews himself.

Before I finish up, there's something that completely slipped my mind.
Remember Cry Wolf Productions? That group of false-flagging assholes that took down a good number of anti-Irate Gamer videos? Sure, their leader was taken out. But a while ago, something appeared that baffles me.

Someone asks his "mother" what Cry Wolf Productions is, and she tells him it's his sister company. ... Wait what?
Is this telling us that Bores really did endorse the false-flagging of all those videos? Then some "James Duxton" guy took the fall for it? What's going on?
Actually, long before the false-flagging spree, a video from Y2B2010 (a reupload of his DVD interview) was flagged for copyright infringement by "Cry Wolf Productions". Was this around before then? Why the massive takedowns? I am so confused...

I wonder if Bores is ever going to upload his Sonic Generations review to YouTube. Because he passed off the footage as his own, Cyberman65 has every right to flag it for theft.

  1. So, with the whole "he's pretending to be his own mother" thing... does this mean he ousted himself? Or maybe he has an alternate personality he has no control over... or maybe he's just that absent-minded. In any case, he's still not helping his own image. He could really use a PR guy.

    1. Well, I'm sure if someone told him (or his e-mom) this, I'm sure he would just spout some garbage about being true to himself, or stop trying to censor him, or let's see you do better, etc.

  2. This whole thing with Norman Bores sounds entirely possible right now. Apart from botching this interview, he also seems to have let slip that his company is trying to silence anyone who disagrees with him. It may also be that LadyBuggin777 is really his mom, but he blocked her to keep up the sockpuppeting. That's generally why I don't let my mom get involved with my YouTube life. It will probably be months before we get another video from Bores. What could it be? Another I Hate the 80s? History of Bullshit? A Neo review that's entirely misinformed? A movie review that explains nothing? God forbid he actually works on the series that got him in so much trouble.

    1. Don't forget he's probably ALSO working on the new Haunted Investigators...

And this LadyBuggin777 thing is getting weird, especially since that person (whether it's Bores/Bores' mother/Whatever) puts Bores in a bad light with almost every comment - and yet LadyBuggin's neither blocked or acknowledged by Bores. It's crazy Oo !

  3. On another note, AVGN released his first episode in about eight months this week. He looks at games based on Schwarzenegger films, and you just know IG sympathisers/fanboys are going to cry foul because he reviewed Predator and mentioned the fact that he was wearing pink.

    1. Well, it IS an odd palette choice, as well as an obvious nitpick.

      Delete
    2. I think it really says something about how different the two are, since James just came off filming a movie and has likely begun editing it, but still produced a 22-minute episode of bad games based on Schwarzenegger movies (which also includes the Total Recall, Last Action Hero, and Conan NES games). Bores, as per usual, uploaded E3 videos a good while after the show ended, has done a contest and little else.

      Delete
    3. I think nitpicking the same thing is fine as long as it is done with a your own creative twist. That is the problem with Bores. He doesn't make it original enough, like the TMNT impossible pizza bit for example.

    4. Believe me, if "Joueur du Grenier"'s videos were more widespread and in English, then there would be much, much more foul-crying because AVGN's review of "Dark Castle" feels like a carbon copy of JDG's one, and AVGN repeats almost the exact same things that JDG said about "Predator" (comparing an enemy to Shy Guys, mentioning the suicide button...) but luckily expands on that one.

  4. All of this makes me wonder how the LadyBuggin' thing will end, after all, as "she" continues to leave more comments, more people will become aware of her existence and eventually Bores will have to come clean about it whether it is him or his mother, either way, it's quite pathetic.

Also of note, LadyBuggin' called TheArchfiend "White Trash", which I think is quite funny considering TheArchfiend went to college and LadyBuggin' admitted to me via private message that she never went (This was her justification for all the spelling mistakes she made, because, y'know, you learn how to spell at college) so, if anything, she can't call him white trash.

    1. Considering he's still pretending he knows what he's talking about when it comes to videogames, we may have quite a wait on our hands unless his sub count drops to the point where he loses his partnership. And, hopefully, incentive to work on this further at all.

  5. The entire radio interview can also be found on Dailymotion and thankfully, there's no way Bores or Cry Wolf Productions can take it down.

And gee, for being Chris' 'mother', LadyBuggin really sucks at hiding secrets.

    ReplyDelete
  6. If she isn't really his mother, then it begs the question of why would he think it would even remotely wise to ever admit to such dishonesty. Bores needs to learn that when you do something stupid on the internet it doesn't go away just because you demand that it will.

Now if only I can manage to post my video that life and the universe has decided it doesn't want to allow me to finish for some strange reason.....cripes I filmed it over 4 weeks ago and I've yet to get a good render of it....grrrr.

  7. I am so confused right now. Is Chris pretending to be his mom or isn't he? My brain hurts just thinking about it.

    1. No one's really sure. The only thing we can be really sure of is that Chris wants us to believe "she" is.

    2. I remember when I had a private conversation with her, at first, she said the comment was fake (I sent her the screencap). I then informed her that the comment was still on the Silver Surfer review. When she wrote a response, she said it was "the crew pulling a prank" which begs the question, why didn't she say that in the first place? So, yeah, it most likely is Bores.

      Delete
    3. @KUKEDUKE:

So we're let to believe that Bores has a whole crew of assistants who apparently do poor research, have nothing to complain about Bores' videos, and have no problem with never being credited, shown or acknowledged by Bores.
      Yeah...

      Delete
    4. @Doresh
The crew does exist, Well, in Chris's mind, but yeah pretty much.

      Delete
    5. OMG! What if he believes that all his different characters are actual people XD ?!

  8. Its funny Archfiend had a hand in this considering he is actually a bigger hack and much more of a whore then Chris has ever been.

  9. That new AVGN review ripped off the IRATE Gamer so hard!!! I mean FUCK nicks.

    ReplyDelete
  10. To be brutally honest... I didn't really enjoy the new AVGN too much. Maybe I've been watching too much Happy Video Game Nerd, but there just wasn't enough actual analysis in the video for my liking. It just came across as "Ugh, this game is frustrating! I'm annoyed!" But to be fair, he has just been working on his movie and he's sure to be tired, so good on him for making a video.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Well to be fair, most of the problems in Predator (the main chunk of the review) were pretty self-explanatory.

      Delete
    2. I myself didn't think much of the review but I have to say, if there was one joke that stuck with me it was when he was talking about the cover of predator.

"This game'll turn you into a sexual tyrannosaur, like me"

      Delete
    3. Yeah, I think you've been watching too much HVGN. AVGN has never really been known for in-dept analysis (with a few rare occasions like his "swordquest" review). His fans don't watch him to have him explain why the bad game is bad, the watch him to see him call the bad game a "shitload of fuck".
Take a look back at earlier AVGN episodes. I think you'll find if there's nothing to enjoy in this one, there's nothing to enjoy in his earlier reviews either.

      Delete
    4. I find when the Nerd does one game he tends to go into fairly good detail about why the game is bad (or at least flawed) and when he does a lot of games at once or have more skit heavy episodes he tends to be more vague on that matter.

      Delete
    5. I felt this one, while not bad, definitely wasn't as good as some other recent mass review episodes, like Star Wars and Spielberg.

      Delete
    6. I think the problem with this one is that it feels like he's trying WAY too hard to bring back that old AVGN nostalgia vibe after being absent for so long. Aside from that, it was okay.

      Delete
    7. I dunno, I still enjoy a good number of his reviews. To list a few: Game Glitches, Pong, Spielberg games, Castlevania, Sega CD and 32x (even though I don't think they're Really That Bad *snigger*), Ghostbusters Trilogy, Nintendo Power, almost the entire year of 2008... I could go on.

      Delete
  11. That Sonic Generations video probably isn't going on Youtube. The footage doesn't even belong to Chris Bores, and I don't even think he owns the game so he can't record his own footage of the game.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Checking the video, he holds up the box so I assume he has the game.

      Delete
    2. Yeah, but knowing Chris, he probably can't be bothered to gain his own footage just to upload it to YouTube. Then again, he might pull a dick move and eventually just upload it anyway.

      Delete
    3. I'm betting he'll download it and either cover up or crop out the watermark.

      Delete
    4. Or he'll just add enough black borders to cover the watermark (even if it would look kinda goofy). He did it in HoVG, so why not here as well?

      Delete
    5. Well, if he does own the game, then I can't even call him out on being lazy. It's definitely harder to search for footage on Youtube and downloading it using a third-party video-downloading program since Youtube doesn't have a legitimate way to allow downloading, than to record footage yourself.

    6. @pohger
So really, it's kind of like a really stupid case of "Dick Dastardly Stops to Cheat".

  12. Chris is just...I don't know if there's a name for what he is. I mean, he doesn't know there's a difference between being "famous", and being "internet famous." I honestly think he does think he should be afforded respect from people in the gaming industry for his little bullshit videos where he makes up flaws because he can't be bothered to find games that merit this kind of treatment.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. He is not famous, he was infamous. He got a brief stint of infamy when people began to notice how he blatantly ripped of AVGN. Then, after he went his own way, people began to criticize him for his other many flaws. Now Chris is a nobody, the majority of his "fans" have left him alone as he waits silently in limbo before he finally falls into obscurity.

  13. Batdan, do you remember the Mario is Missing/Mario's Time Machine post? People are actually declaring IG's to be better in every way... All because he played more of the games. I consider that logic to be very invalid. Like you said, there's really nothing much to say about those games.

    1. In a way, I was more entertained by IG's video, but only because its a contest between one of Bore's more ridiculously idiotic episodes versus one of Rolfe's more mediocre. I would not use the word "better", though.

    1. Personally I think it's been going downhill since he introduced the mask. While there were some good ones (Packing Peanuts, Blu-Ray packaging, iTunes, wire hangers), the rest were just bad.

Especially the microwave one. This dives in the realm of "who cares?"

      Delete
    2. Yeah making the bullshit man a literal bullshit man wasn't a very good idea. The show doesn't really need a character on screen and the jokes so one note I didn't think it would get beyond the reveal in its first appearance.

      Delete
    3. As much as I hate to say it, in terms of humor, it's almost Bores-level. I mean, wow. Pretty bad.

Btw. Did Someone watch Freedie Wongs "Video Game Hight School"? To me, it was waste of potential. This series isfilled with cliches, gaming related memes and his trademark (overused) effects. Just watching the trailers screams "cliche, but its with video games!"

    5. How about all the game reviews from Mike? I just wanted to hear your opionons, since I don't get how he could confuse "Hack" with "Homebrew".

    6. YKWBS has definitely "jumped the shark". The BS mask is stupid and now he's grasping at straws.

Another Bores-like moment he had in his latest video was the "glory hole" moment. He really didn't need to explain it, subtle works much better.

And totally O/T but I have to say again, the Blockbuster Buster on TGWTG is Bores-level bad.

      Delete
    7. I actually kind of liked the glory hole joke. I think he was using subtlety and blatancy. He hints at it, subtly hinting at what it is, then gets angry and just blatantly says what it looks like. I didn't see it as explaining the joke, I saw it as mocking the explanation.

      Delete
    8. @Cody S.:

It really felt more like "Don't get it? Here's your explanation, dumbass!" instead of "Here's the explanation so that you can get the joke and laugh", which fits the AVGN more.

      Delete
    9. I have to disagree about the Blockbuster Buster. With Bores, on some level I at least enjoy his videos because of how hard he tries to get me to believe he knows anything about storytelling, comedy, and videogames in general. No matter how often and hard he fails.

The Blockbuster Buster was just to un-entertaining I do what people tell me to do with Bores; I stopped watching him after two of his videos, and cringe whenever I see something new of his on the marquee at TGWTG.

      Delete
    10. The Joueur du Grenier also joked about the "glory holes", except he said he couldn't command and just played "Ding Dong Song" music.
And I agree with ResidentialEvil: I think Blockbuster Buster is quite amateurish in his jokes and his reviewing style is more a storm of the clichés created by AVGN and the Nostalgia Critic.

    11. I might tolerate BBB's reviews, but those annoying sidekicks of him are too much for me.

      Delete
    12. BBB just seems to try too hard to be like others on the site but doesn't put enough of his own spin on it. I get the impression they just have him on to fill space due to losing some producers and others slowing down their output. i hope he does improve and doesn't end up like Mike J who hasn't got better in his performance, editing or analysis.

    13. I think BBB is better when he is doing a "Honest" review. At least he is not forcing himself to be a "typical" TGWTG reviewer.

  15. There's just so many skeletons falling out of Bores' closet, I'm not sure what he can do with his show. BORES... Just start all over again. Not with video games, but with some other topic (well besides haunted investigating). There are better uses for your time and energy.

Bores reached a plateau with the Irate Gamer series, and it's limited by your reputation. It's better to build 10k subs in 4 years with a really good show than 100k subs in the same time with a half-assed show. He's done. Closed too many doors, burned too many bridges.

A good show with fewer followers would have MANY more doors left to open, and many more opportunities for growth. He can't do that in the gaming world any longer, unless he tries very seriously to learn from others what it is to be a good writer and journalist.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. And of course, owns up to all his past mistakes.

      Delete
    2. It would be a bit too much to expect Bores to publicly apologize, own up to each past mistake, admit everybody was right to bash him and walk away slowly bowing his head in shame while saying "I deserved that" for every rotten tomato that splashes on his head.
      People seldom work this way.

      Delete
    3. Okay, maybe "all" would be too much, but he's never going to clean up his act unless he at least gives some sort of nod to past transgressions, instead of constantly making up new excuses or ignoring any and all criticism.

I mean, damn, I know this comic's bad, but I didn't know it was THAT bad Oo

    2. It was cool that he finally reviewed One More Day indeed! It was hard to top his rage-filled mini-review in the "Top ten comics I will never review", but his deep analysis of Spider-Man himself and the rest was great.

So, I guess Linkara's "Top ten comics I will never review" has been rendered somehow invalid since he still reviewed a Sonic comic, manga and One More Day. Maybe the episode should be renamed "Top ten comics I will never review... unless I feel like reviewing them anyway!"

      Delete
  17. The more I think about it if 'James Duxton' wasn't a sock puppet account that Bores used to try and make it look like it wasn't him flagging videos again then the only thing that makes sense is that it was an overzealous fan who agreed to take the fall for his internet master. What you posted was basically an admission that Bores was, in the end, responsible for the new series of false flagging attacks on his critics.

As for why he might have waited, it's likely that he saw how his subs and views were slipping and wanted to make it so only his videos would come up when someone searches Irate Gamer.

A fan asks what happened to Scottie from the Chris & Scottie Roadtrip. Chris tells him "it was a one time thing".

It surprises me very little how more and more Chris is forced to play all of the parts in his videos, why because he can't keep friends!

Look I understand how hard it can be to get friends to come and help make a video. I've tried myself and wasn't able to get their schedules to mesh with when I have film time, but this is just dropping the ball.

One more thing, this Normal Bates stuff is just getting outright creepy. Knock it off, Bores! You aren't good at it!

    2. The problem is that Bores is not discreet at all. His portrayal of his mother is that of a 12-year-old troll and he constantly contradicts himself, not to mention, he comments as her way to often, sometimes it is just pages of Ladybuggin arguing with people.

He is constantly just spewing out more evidence that he is pretending to be his mom. He should just quit now before this gets any worse.

To which I need to state again, he needs to go with something which he has a genuine interest in (assuming that he has a genuine interes).

Yeah, doing videos on a subject you like doesn't always equal quality, but sometimes enjoyment one has towards their work results in enjoyment one gets from seeing said work.
