I am Lego Vengeance, I am the Lego Night! I ... Talk About This Boring Lego Game Review!

Ugh, it’s been so long since his last video that I’m kind of out of practice. *breathes* You’re a liar, you fail at research, you’re not a gamer, you cheat too much, and you’re unoriginal. There we go.

But yeah, it’s been a while since he uploaded anything of merit. The last video was posted July 18th. I don’t think he gets how this “getting paid by YouTube” thing works.

As you probably can tell, it’s a Neo video. Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes. Also known as the best Superman game ever made (no joke). And only a month and a half after it came out.

Normally, Bores posts the previous Neo video to YouTube when the new one goes up on GotGame. Considering what’s in the Sonic Generations review, that’s probably not going to happen. Instead, he announces the winners of his last contest. Say, did he ever announce the winners of that PS3 chicken game? I don’t think he did.

I love how he has to edit the video because he couldn’t remember the site’s name. Seriously, there’s a poorly-hidden jump-cut there.
As well as showing the winners. Congratulations, enjoy your douchey jewelry. Be careful your necks don’t turn green.
He also announces that he plans to give away … an HD Capture Card. WHAT?! How the hell did you get that? God damn it! He also keeps referring to “they”, like “they’re giving it away on this channel”. Who’s they?! What the hell is an Aluminum Falcon?!
Also, it’s pronounced “CAP-ture” not “Kep-ture”. I don’t think that’s an accent thing either.
“So that will be really awesome for you… you guys” Most of your fans are little kids that are likely too dumb to figure out how it works, resorting to a video camera in the end.

He also says the next video is an I Rate the 80’s. Remember when everyone thought that was going to be his main show now, but after that he hasn’t made any episodes since January? Good times.

Anyway, *turns on snark signal* to the video.

0:06 - 0:13: The video opens with IG announcing the game and OH GOD THE DISC! Don’t hold it like that, you’re going to ruin it! Why couldn’t you just show the box? Unless GotGame didn’t send him the box. Still, use a picture or something. Don’t hold a game disc like that! Jeez.

0:14 - 1:04: “If you enjoyed the first Lego Batman, then you’re going to love this” Going to need some Bat-Booze.
“Warner Bros. went above and beyond…” Traveller’s Tales. WB just published it.

He brings up that he prefers DC over Marvel, and was “a-static” over the fact you play as other DC characters besides Batman. He lists a few of them and how they’re all playable. I love how he’s so lazy that he has to reuse his E3 footage instead of making his own. Kind of tells me he didn’t get too far.
“Makes me wonder why they didn’t call this Justice League Lego” Because the first Lego Batman already existed, and it’s easier to advertise to people that… never mind it’s impossible to explain to you.

1:05 - 1:53: “A huge open universe” Universe, really? Hey guys, Just Cause 2 isn’t on the island of Panau, it’s an entire universe! I know he follows with “situated in Gotham” but that just sounded wrong.

He explains how you can run, drive or fly around. Saying you can continue the story or run off to parts unknown. Then adds some text saying “Now Entering: Parts Unknown”. Wasn’t funny, but it wasn’t painfully over the top or in my face so… D minus?

He brings up that the Co-Op is well done, explaining how each character has their abilities that need to be used to solve puzzles. That’d be nice if you clearly weren’t just playing by yourself. The second characters clearly says “Press Start”.

He moves onto the story, saying it’s really well done. Are you going to mention how this is the first Lego game to have voice acting? Considering you put Lego Star Wars, Indiana Jones and Batman on your Top 5 DS games, this wasn’t your first Lego game. You should know that the games never had voice acting outside of grunts. Not going to mention that?

1:54 - 2:49: IG then moves onto the “flawls”, and yeah he says that way again.
He didn’t like how you could only control Batman, Robin and Superman in the main story mode, and the other characters were relegated to side quests. He demonstrates this with the actual Lego figurines. … Did you seriously go out of your way to buy all of these just for this review? That’s just dumb. You’re not reviewing the toys, you’re reviewing the game.
He then brings up how Superman’s flying gave him “vertigo” and he fakes vomiting. You should probably see a doctor for that, because that’s your problem, not the game. I didn’t have that problem flying around.

2:50 - 3:07: He brings up how we see DC characters in Lego form, listing off a couple. Then demands that Lego make more of them. Why do you care? You don’t collect or build Lego sets, you just bought this figures to display in your review and say “Look what I got gamers! Oooooh!”

And now, the final verdict. He liked it, and Lego fans will like it. Laziest final verdict ever!
He does his send-off, but then a Lego Batman figurine appears to say “Game On” instead. Fuck you. Enough with ending Batman videos with damn figurines saying stuff. Like “Happy Thanksgiving” in the Arkham City video. Uggggh.

This video was… eh. He didn’t really say too many stupid or wrong things, and the only painful joke was saved for the very end. Still, it seemed unnecessary to buy the Lego DC Superhero sets just to show off. Overall, not the worst.

So… yeah. We’ll see how long it takes for his next I Badly Explain the 80’s to come out.

  1. You seem somewhat surprised after five years, Chris gives anything other than wishy washy opinions, that don't mean anything?

    1. I know by now he'll never go into depth about the games he reviews. I just play up the surprise for entertainment at this point really. This review was kind of boring otherwise.

  2. Amazingly enough, it wasn't that bad of a review. Get rid of the stupid vertigo joke and it's almost passable.

  3. I got to admit, I was surprised. I thought Chris wouldn't make another video until late August. Safe to say, I was wrong.
Concerning the game review itself, it wasn't very bad. Sure he didn't go into much depth about the game, but at least it was longer than his previous Neo review of Sonic Generations. I do think that the vertigo "flawl" and "Game on!" Lego Batman quote at the end were unnecessary though.
Concerning his contest results video, I do think that the HD capture card he will be giving away in his next contest is cool and I was thinking about (get ready for this) subscribing to his channel (until the contest is over) and typing the words "Pick me" in the comments. Unfortunately I was disappointed that it will only work for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360, since the Wii isn't capable of HD. That's fine; I do have an Xbox 360 and one of my friends has a Playstation 3 and I do enjoy both of these consoles. However my friend(s) and I spend more time playing with the Wii than the former two systems.
One last note: Is it true that Chris is a Playstation 3 fanboy? It seems that the majority of his Neo reviews, especially the more recent ones, are played on a Playstation 3. Not that I have anything wrong this this; I'm just curious.
Anyways, great blog post as always BatDan!

    1. Chris does seem like a PS3 fanboy at this point. In his 360 comparison video, he said he only plays PS3 games because he doesn't like paying for XBL Gold.

In an E3 video, he noted that if a game was released on all three consoles, he'd play the PS3 version because he doesn't have to move around like Wii and Kinect. Never mind that most games don't use Kinect, and most Wii games barely use the motion controls now.

  4. @BatDanNight Hey Daniel, do you that just Bores play more of Mario is missing/Mario's Time Machine that don't really have much to say about their gameplay than AVGN doesn't necessary mean his review is better in every way. And I agree on your logic complaint. :)

  5. The reason why they call it 'Lego Batman 2: Super Heroes' was to named after the ongoing Lego line 'Lego Super Heroes'. And yes, most of the sets based on the DC Universe are Batman sets.

    ReplyDelete
  6. And one more thing. Sorry Bores but you are never going to see Lego figures of Aquaman, Flash, etc. because Lego hve said that the only DC Lego sets they are releasing are only related to Batman and Superman. That's why you only play as Batman and Superman in the main story. Wonder Woman is included in one of the sets though and a Green Lantern figure was sold in last year's SDCC.

And this isn't even the first game that has characters never released in Lego sets. There were also Lego versions of Sallah and Brody and those two were never released in any Lego Indiana Jones sets.

  7. So Bores likes DC more, huh? That's a bit confusing: If he just watches the movies, he'd probably notice that most DC adaptions are terrible (except for Batman, but even Dark Knight has its flaws), whereas Marvel adaptions have been consistently great in the past years (partially due do Marvel having its own studio, whereas DC has to rely on your typical movie studio that usually only cares about the prominent name).

And if he happens to be an avid comic reader, well, the New 52 happened, plunging the entire DC universe (okay, except those stories that aren't really part of the reboot or just continue like the reboot never happened) back into the 90s, with stupid costume redesigns and a confusing timeline. I think Bores would be pretty pissed off about this (like pretty much every DC comic fan) - unless he loves the 90s, of course...

“If you enjoyed the first Lego Batman, then you’re going to love this”

    Let me fix that...

“If you enjoyed the previous game in the series, then you’re going to love this”

Done. Bores would only have to record this once, and - provided he always wears the same shirt - he can splice it into pretty much EVERY new Neo review, which should speed up his video making by about 5%. If he records even more generic statements, he might be able to make whole reviews with just game and stock footage!

    1. Eh, I've been a longtime DC fan myself and I didn't hate the New 52, probably because the only franchise that got really shit on was the Teen Titans, and I never cared for them. If anything, DC's been putting out more good comics than Marvel (Action Comics, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Aquaman, Swamp Thing, Animal Man, just to name a few) and the only two franchises that didn't get affected by the reboot were Batman and Green Lantern.

      Delete
    2. The main question is whether or not those comics needed the reboot to be good. Demon Knights for example takes pace so far back in the past that the current DC continuity doesn't matter at all.

      Delete
    3. The relaunch has been pretty good for me, personally. Cut a lot of the clutter from the backstory while keeping the useful stuff, made it more accessible, and gave me a reason to read some very good books about characters I never cared about before, like Wonder Woman and Aquaman. But do you REALLY think Bores even reads comic books? Doesn't he strike you more of a 'super heroes are cool, never read a book about them but I like the movies' type of guy?

      Delete
    4. Does Bores even read comics? Hey, that's what I wanted to ask BatFlashLantern XD

    5. Well, one day, when I was pretty bored, I decided to watch two of Bores' videos that I always wanted to see: his Superman: Doomsday review and another video where he talks about the (then upcoming) Green Lantern movie. After watching those videos I can say that he does seem to have some knowledge about comic books, for example, he mentions stuff that was in the original Death of Superman storyline and he acknowledges the existence of Green Lantern: Rebirth (although he calls it "reboot").

  9. I will give Bores points for one valid complaint, since it does seem like they should have had a few other characters in the main story. Mind you, I haven't played the game, so he could be entirely wrong about this point. Anyone care to clarify?

  13. I hate to change the subject, but Mike's recent review of the South Park FPS game really hurt me. While I will say the game is not as good as it may have been (IMO), he complains about the turkeys of the first chapter being the only enemy species you fight (when in Chapter 2 you fight "clones" and the third chapter has cows and aliens) and getting ganged up easily by the turkeys not understanding that most FPS's, mainly modern ones, barely give you any spare life, while SP has a hitpoint system, giving you some leeway. FPS's are in my eyes not meant to be easy, and it's very likely he just got the game recently and didn't spend enough time on it to learn the controls and the presence of alternative shot types of the weapons you can switch to (like the PissBall, an alternative SnowBall), and of course not advancing past the first chapter to see what else the alien comet does to South Park.

The other two games I don't own so I can't make any statements regarding those. Though when he said what games you could be playing rather than the South Park games; when he shows Mario Kart 64, he labels it off in voice as Super Mario Kart, it's predecessor for the SNES four years prior.

    2. Well, to add more fuel to your statement, Stuttering Craig and his ScrewAttack cronies are also guilty of this. Here are three examples in their Video Game Vaults:

1.During his VGV of the Felix the Cat game for NES, Craig thinks that Felix disappeared into thin air after the silent era. But we all know that after that era ended, Felix did appear in comics, a 1991 movie, two cartoon shows (from the late 1950's and mid 1990's), and a Muppet Babies-esque spinoff from 2000.

2.While looking at the SNES port of Captain America and the Avengers, not once did Craig and Daily Destin ever acknowledge that it actually came out in the arcades first, as well as also being ported to the Genesis/Mega Drive.

The VGV on Trojan for NES. All Craig did was talk about the game for only ten seconds, and then he spent the entire video whining and crying about never getting his copy of Metroid back.

  14. Seems this review was just dull. It wasn't too bad, but he just gave the same vague opinions he usually does in a Neo review. I do have some Lego, and I stand by that they're among the best toys in existence. I haven't bought any of the new sets in a while, but I'm considering it. As for DC over Marvel? That's a gimme. Granted, I do like the standard heroes like Batman and Superman, and I even get a little giddy when one of DC's shows or games includes more obscure ones like Blue Beetle or Booster Gold. If I had to say, I'd give the edge to Marvel, since their heroes just seem more human. The X-Men are outcasts, Spider-Man deals with young adult angst, Tony Stark is a billionaire who has frequent problems with alcohol, Bruce Banner has had a lot more psychological crises since Joe Fixit was introduced; and I've just gotten into Captain America and a fair number of his stories deal with him being unfrozen in modern times; such as how most of his colleagues are either dead or too old to remember him.
Oh dear, I seem to have been rambling. Even so, just the usual bad research, mispronouncing easy words, needless special effects. And yes, it's definitely not a good sign for his partnership if he continues to release videos so slowly. He's just going to keep losing subscribers. Maybe the Irate The '80s will be worse, so we'll have more to talk about. In many cases, bad stuff is more memorable than just boring stuff.
Regarding the Sonic Generations video, Bores clearly took the easy way out and just decided not to post it on YouTube. I was kind of looking forward to Cyberman tearing into him and getting another Archfiend rant out of it.

  15. As far as favorites go, I can't really give one over the other. At most, the closest I can give to my stance is that I have no regular Marvel purchases on my list (Though I'm planning to get the Spider-Man: The Epic Ben Reilly trades soon).

Even then, my DC purchases aren't part of the main continuum. Just titles like:
    - Green Lantern The Animated Series
    - Smallville Season 11
    - Superman Family Adventures
    - Young Justice

My other purchases are Archie Comics Mega Man and Sonic The Hedgehog. The rest are IDW's Star Trek (taking place after the 2009 film), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Color Classics and any Love & Capes Miniseries the company will publish.

  18. Off-topic, but I wanted to give a response to this discussion from the last blog:

Gangstalizard95: "Batdan, do you remember the Mario is Missing/Mario's Time Machine post? People are actually declaring IG's to be better in every way... All because he played more of the games. I consider that logic to be very invalid. Like you said, there's really nothing much to say about those games."

lordlaharl: "In a way, I was more entertained by IG's video, but only because its a contest between one of Bore's more ridiculously idiotic episodes versus one of Rolfe's more mediocre. I would not use the word "better", though."

Still, have to give James credit for having a substancial (albeit minor) critique. Simply put, other educational games are clearly identifiable as such because of the title, but MiM and MTM have misleading titles in that regard.

  20. Just a question, I the only one who thinks the IG has been infected with hatred?

Sure, from the beginning things were tense with people calling him out until he was forced to remove the ability to comment, but recently things have really started to heat up with LadyBuggin and Batdanmn spamming pages of the comments and causing conflicts.

I also remember when Johnny Awesome held the contest to win printing paper with poor resolution images on them, or "posters" as he called them. Anyway, in the comments of the contest video, a few people decided to leave negative comments, which could have simply been ignored but of course LadyBuggin had to fight back and as a result the comments turned into a war zone.

Then again, with the possibility that LadyBuggin is Bores, I can't feel sympathetic. If he wants to turn his entire thing into a big mass of hatred, then by all means he can.

  21. "Not going to mention this is the first Lego game with voices?"
OH MY GOSH SERIOUSLY AM I THE ONLY FREAKING PERSON WHO-
    (Please stand by)
Uhh, this is far from the first Lego game with voices. It's the fifteenth. Look up Lego Island, Lego Loco, Legoland, Lego Rock Raiders, or pretty much every other Lego game made in the 90s. Sorry about my raging there, it's not your fault. I'm just tired of all these "Ruined FOREVER" reactions from idiotic fans.

Also, I don't think Cyberman65 has rights to take down Bores' Sonic Generations review, whether he recorded it or not. If he did, that would have made all of the flagging Bores used to do perfectly okay. You can't put a copyright on video game footage, and plus this technically falls under fair use. Sorry, but he'd only have rights to take it down in a wishful world.

    1. On the "voice acting" point, BatDan meant that it was the first game along the lines of LEGO Star Wars to have voicea acting. As in, the first LEGO game based on an outside property to have it.

As for the point about Cyberman, if Bores has the right to take down the videos who use his footage, game-related or not, then I see no reason that Cyberman can't do the same with a video that blatantly steals his gameplay footage. The fact that it's gameplay footage does not excuse the fact that Bores used footage without asking permission - he still STOLE the clips he used, and only credited his source when he got busted.

      Delete
    2. Yeah, but he could just as easily file a counter-claim. It's not his footage, no, but then again, the footage isn't exactly Cyberman's either. He may have recorded it, yes, but he doesn't own the copyrights to it. I've had random people steal my recordings before, but I can't do anything about it since I don't have a copyright on it, credit or no credit.

      Delete
    3. Even if he couldn't do anything about the stolen footage, isn't is bad enough for Bores that there's no easy and direct evidence of him being a lazy hack - evidence that his loyal fans can only really counter with sad excuses like "I heard IG and Cyberman are BFFs!" ?

I'll give you the game footage argument, but when someone uses footage from Chris' show, they clearly don't try to pass it off as their own work.

Chris on the otherhand tried to pass off said clip as his own brief playthrough. Had no one noticed, then he would never have credited Cyberman.

Doesn't matter. Rolfe is promoting this obvious scam by agreeing to post in his channel where he knows it will get tons of exposure. This is no better than Irate Gamer's Deal Dash video. Worse in my opinion since this scam is even more obvious. 7. Scam or not, Greg could've easily not worked on a homebrew bug fix cart that could go in an NES but rather just release a ROM for free online. No profit = No douche complaining. And since he already seems to have the money, he wouldn't need this Kickstarter campaign to begin with.

Besides, when I saw that video, I began to say to myself: I doubt Greg'll fix the many glitches present in Cheetahmen II. He doesn't mention anywhere in the video that any bugs will be fixed other than the one that warps you to Level 5 after Level 4 is finished. As a guy the devotes most of his life to suggesting upgrades to existing games regardless of how well-known said game is, that's basically my theory. And James flat-out said the many problems Cheetahmen II has in his Cheetahmen video.

    8. Considering the reputation of the game, the only persons who would fund this project are probably NES collectors who could never afford the original cartridge. 10. I have to say this kickstarter campaign to fix the cheetahmen 2 glitches is full of crap. C'mon Greg, you yourself are game programmer. Can't you fixed the game glitches YOURSELF and NOT begging other people's money to fund the fixing for you? You live in a big house so don't go saying that you have money problems and need Kickstarter to fund your project. And seriously, at this time and era, which gamer will care about a fixed version of Cheetahmen 2 anymore?

I feel sorry for James being used by Greg to advertise his scam, making James a public fool.

    1. I'm not surprised.

For what I understand, he was going into his video career solo until he formed Channel Awesome because Youtube was giving him a hard time. I've seen two RandomDCE videos summing that aspect up, along with the people that joined him (Spoony included), and that thing about him the feud with the AVGN. These videos are called "Condensed: Nostalgia Critic Part 1 and Part 2" You can find these on Youtube, and they are pretty funny. :)

So what's the topic again? The Irate Lamer video or the Nerd supporting the return of the Cheetahmen? Well I did not see the Irate Video; in fact, I vowed to never watch another Irate video again since, what, 2009?!

And as for the Nerd supporting Cheetahmen, Come on, it's obvious! The Action 52 guy was moved by the fact that people like the Nerd and NES Punk would do their best to remove the final nail from the Cheetahmen coffin. Sure, many people have made fun of Action 52 and Cheetahmen in the past, and on Youtube, at that. The Nerd and Pat the Punk, however stuck out as having the resources to fully bring the Cheetahmen back to life! That is why they were payed to make cameos in that video on Kickstarter, and while we are at it...

Kickstarter... I have seen a lot of Kickstarter projects ever since the Nerd first posted his for the AVGN movie. There was a fund for a Brawl in the Family Book, an official release of a game based on the engine of Super Mario Bros Crossover, and some weird video game system called Ouya. I really hope all of these end well, including the AVGN film, maybe except for the Ouya. I am suspicious about that thing, really.

      Jealousy, huh?

Have you seen NC's Bart's Worst Nightmare Let's Play? All NC was doing is screaming and shouting, and that video was embarrassing; he even had to apologize for it in his next video. It was at that point that DCE and his friends decide to make fun of him. Retsupurae made a video riffing on the entire let's play as well, if you are interested in seeing it.

And let's not forget Kickassia and Suburban Knights. Did you actually like these?

And as for the hateful thing, if I remember correctly, DCE took out the part where Marzgirl called herself a weeaboo. He said so on the description of part 2.

That, and I enjoy DCE and Hellsing920's videos. That is all I can say here, Kiki.

    6. @Angrysun

      Yes and No dude.

Yes the NC character has indeed going on Decline, and i don't want to get into the whole Summer Movie things, but, the thing is, DCE and his group decided to antagonize TGWTG for more reasons that just that, because he has a grudge hatred for Doug Walker, because the thing for DCE is, sometimes he just looks for a reason to hate someone, because he thinks that if you make do "scream and be negative" for comedic or entertainment value, you are a douchebag and you should not deserve respect, yet he was very judgmental in the past with his HDGs and his infamous Brawl Reviewm its a problem that DCE has grown over the last year and i cant help by notice it, specially since some of the stuff he "parodied" in his videos of NC condensed are a bit based on stuff that he got wrong and did not bother to rectify (like the spoony thing: I am banning you lol..........even tough it was his girlfriend).

      Delete
    7. Ok, maybe saying that made by "a guy a group who has grown jealous" maybe was not the proper way to say, and maybe a bit harsh, but it has also some truth, because they seemed like just wanted to create some flaming, specially at the end with a douchebag called PrinceofMoose basically berating the fans of them.

    8. @Again at Kiki

It's good that you are starting to watch your words.

Okay. I am interested in a video link or something about PrinceofMoose berating the NC fans, because to be honest, I use to be a fan of him until he made that video about him leaving Youtube and how the Retsupurae fanboys were attacking him for being "unoriginal". He did come back, actually, and since then, I simply don't really check up on him at all, if you will. This is why I am asking for evidence of him being... well, mean. That is all I am asking.

I didn't mean to offend you, Kiki. I understand that you do not like RandomDCE, so I'll stop bothering you about it.

Though you still didn't tell me about what you thought of Kickassia and Suburban Knights.

    1. Why does it need defending? Sure it's stupid, but the only people hurt by it are those who actually buy into it. If James thinks it's something worth promoting then I won't back him on it, but I won't think less of him for it either.

      Delete
    2. He wasn't "used" he was supporting.

      Delete
    3. @lordlaharl:

Right. Every donater should already know that they're paying money for a crappy, now slightly less buggy game. Heck, this promotion itself KNOWS that the game sucks. Calling this a "scam" is therefore a bit too much.
A Kickstarter project that hypes itself, only to produce garbage at the end is a scam, but here, we already know how the end result will be.

Don't really see the appeal in this project, but some people seem to be willing to donate, so whatever.

      Delete
    4. Would I buy the game or otherwise donate money to it? No. Though I have to admit it'd make a fantastic gag gift. And the video they made for it was pretty funny. All things considered, though, I wish them the best of luck.

      Delete
    5. @Doresh, it is a scam. A fixed version of the game already exists and no way is 65,000 needed in order to "fix" the game. This is a true scam.

      Delete
    6. The already existing fix was made by entirely different people, and I don't think they can just grab their fix - though there might be the possibilty that they'll do it anyways (dunno how hard it'll be to proof that).

Don't forget that they not only fix the game. They also have to produce merchandise for everyone who donates at least $60.
So if anything, it's a scam if the merch's overpriced.

    1. It's not that Bores would do no such thing (he would, trust me), but it's the fact that they got James to promote this campaign, which would never get off the ground had James not promoted it.

BTW, as of now,$25,137 has been raised out of $65,000.
Not as fast as I thought, but still, why would you even consider donating?

      Delete
  30. Well lots of people have been saying Rolfe can live the rest of his life with 300,000 dollars and he will not spend any of his money on the movie.
I doubt that part due to photo proof and he is much to dedicated to making films. but I hate how people say 300,000 dollars is way to much for his movie.
I doubt that because countless films that had hundreds of millions put into them and sucked while smaller indie films (Evil dead as an example) had 300-400 thousand dollar budget now it is a cult masterpiece and has the rare 100% approval rating on rotten tomatoes. So in my opinion 300,000 isn't enough.

    3. Honestly i tough it was more of people jumping to conclusions made by assumptions and being dicks and making a mountain out of a mole-hole.

Oh BTW about my piece on this issue, you might think that i am the delusional fan boy manchild that just defends his idol for everything but the thing is, i don't see how this should damage James Rolfe image even more that most assholes have done so far, yes, it can be a little counterproductive since James did help to promote this, but even then HE STATED by the Fucking beginning that he has nothing to do with the Kickstarter project, he just acepted to make a cameo in a video promoting this probably because he told it would be fun, and people might like it, plus James being a very gentleman and nice guy, agreed to help someone else to promote the project, as for the scam thing, i am sorry but i do believe that some of you are trowing that word just to demonize out of the loop, what i mean is that they are trying to make the thing look bad or more bad that it really is, someone brought up the argument about that why wasting $60 for a shitty game that might be completed but not made a good game and that they can just made a repro out of the fixed version?.

      Well Here's my counter-argument

1.- Cheetahmen 2 while not tested and unreleased, i HIGHLY doubt that Nes Repro makers would actually made repro carts of that game, considering that while the game wasn't officially released on its time, many carts were later discovered and leaked, and even then i don't think most repro makers want to make repros of an already licensed NES game on the US, since most of them DO REFUSE to make repros out of NES games regardless of how rare they are(Panic restaurant, Bubble Booble 2, Snow Brothers and Little Samson) sure, they do some exceptions for certain titles such as, cancelled titles that Were going to be produced but cancelled at the last minute, like the US versions of Gimmick, Earthbound Zero and Bio Force Ape, and of course the NWC cart and its spinoff games, oh and yes that April fools Stadium Events Repro, but the difference is that with Cheetah men 2 the games are slightly more available than those other games, and at the very least they are accessible, while for example games like Gimmick, and Bio Force Ape, while scheduled for US release, they were not produced in Us carts, only BETAS existed which were the based for the Repros, on the other hand, Cheetah-men 2 was produced, but not released to the public at the last second.

2.- Also they can buy the RetroUSB Powerpack or the Evercart, but those are still more expensive, sure is one payment, but most people will rather pay only 60 bucks than over $120, oh and i have heard that most repros only had a lifetime of 3 -5 years or maybe more depending on how you take care of them because they are burn on EPROMS, which suffer from Bitrot, while Retail Games usually are burn on HardROMs which last for LONGER times heck maybe forever.

3.- Since this could be the opportunity to own the original game as an Originally produced NES for a more cheaper price, or at the very least a normal retail price, and not having to pay hundreds if not thousands of dollars on those hard to find already produced but not released carts, plus it would be the chance to actually own the game as if it was originally released back in its day, and plus, the game will be finished, or at least i hope.

4.- Sure, the game is technically bad, oh it sure it is, but like it or not, it has is place in gaming history because of its history, and most collectors would actually like to have it just because of the privilege of owning a game that was at one point not believed to exist, and then became rare and super expensive, does that mean they are "retarded" for doing so?, not really in my eyes.

5 And Once again, the same thing with the AVGN movie, the people who donated, THEY DID IT WITH THEIR OWN WILL, AND ITS THEIR DECISION IF THEY WANT TO DONATE OR NOT, AND THEY HAVE THE RIGHT TO DO IT IF THEY PLEASE.

      Delete
    4. Strangely enough, Kiki, I agree. That was a very thorough, very well-thought-out comment. You may want to use a couple more periods, commas, and parentheses on #1, because I barely followed it all the way, but at least I can understand what you're getting at with it.

      Delete
  33. 1 - I'm almost 100% sure nesreproductions.com will put the fixed cheetahmen II on a cart for you. I know somebody will because I've actaully seen, held, and played a chettahmen II reproduction cart. Don't assume no one will make a repro, ask them first, do your research.

2 - These guys are most likely using EPROMs as well, there's no reason to believe otherwise.

3 - It's still a hacked ROM on a repro cart being sold by a third party. What makes this any more authentic that existing ways to get the game?

4&5 - Yes, they have the right to buy a shitty game if they want. We just want them to know they're buying a shitty game that they could have gotten for free, from someone who got it for free, who doesn't have the right to sell it in the first place. There's no harm in informing people with honest facts.

5 - The AVGN movie might be good or bad. It might justify the budget or not. No one knows unless they've seen the movie or they have access to James's private financial records. The AVGN movie might not exist if it weren't for the funding. The Cheetahmen II project is funding something that's already out there and readily available. Yes, people can give them money for this if they want, but it doesn't change the fact that these people are only pretending to provide a service or product.

    ReplyDelete
  34. It's like if I were to start a KickStarter campaign saying "You like fish sandwiches? Give me $20 and I'll mail you a Fillet o' Fish from McDonalds". Yes, people would have the right to give me their money. They'd still be idiots for doing so, instead of just going and buying their own sandwich for less and get it fresher. If James endorsed my funding campaign, then he'd deserve to be criticized for it.

  36. Yes. It's a dumb show with bad jokes and an emphasis on schadenfredue (which seems to be a common theme on Nickelodeon now).

If one really thinks about, Carly is a terrible role model for little girls. The whole "making videos for the internet" plot completely downplays the harsh reality of the web. Yes, I know it's a kid's show. But at least there should be a "don't try this at home kids" disclaimer or something.

He should make a video addressing to people, first of all, the movie donations. He should make it very clear that the movie donations all went into good use and he explains in more detail about what kind of things the money was needed for. He should also explain he used to the extra money for the movie and not just pocketed it as some people claim. Then he should address this video and apologize for what happened and honestly answer why he chose to support it in the beginning. I think something like that will get AVGN back in good graces with most people

I've said a few times that I've been disappointed by his work in recent history, but at the same time it was always the same kind of jackassery I had come to expect. THIS, however... I actually expected better of him. I know that sounds crazy, but I honestly thought that Bores, whether out of some small shred of morality, or simple fear of the hate he'd get from it, would never attack Rolfe like this. But I guess he was just waiting for when it seemed as though he was at his weakest, like the opportunistic jackass he really is. So I cannot wait for BatDan to tear him a new one over this, and I hope that this is the kind of concentrated HORSESHIT that will serve to remind us just why this blog exists. I know it is for me.

    5. Doresh, just asking, should we just wait until things to settle down and all the AVGN hate comes to a stop? Because I don't think I can tolerate Assfiend any longer.

    6. I am no fan of Irate Gamer but I have to admit he seems like a very generous person since he gives away a lot of things for free to his fans. While James Rolfe I believe sells that stuff on Ebay. Don't get me wrong. I prefer AVGN any day over Irate Gamer but this is one area I think Irate Gamer above him

    7. @ShriekoftheVulture:

  46. Hey Ozzy, welcome back. Where have you been? Still hadn't come up with any material to do your blog entry on Archfiend?
