Must Rush Resident Evil 6 Review Just Like Capcom Rushed The Game Out

Now, time to look at IG’s latest main video and see what stupid storyline he tries to implement this time. Hang on, it’s ANOTHER two minute Neo video? Jeez, what is it this time? Resident Evil 6? Wow, another game that came out today. I’m surprised Bores is getting so many of these advanced copies. Of course, he sacrifices quality by putting out the reviews the day the game comes out, and considering his track record of not beating games I seriously doubt he beat all three main campaigns plus Ada Wong’s campaign.

Everything I’ve seen and heard about RE6 has been bad. The demo was a mess, with Chris Redfield’s part reminding me more of Gears of War than Resident Evil, Leon’s part was full of pointless Quicktime Events (say, remember how RE4 did QTE, those were better!) and I haven’t tried Jake’s part but I hear it’s a combination of the two. The game has gone out of its way to actively not want my money, leading to nothing more than a rental. Capcpom’s statements about wanting this to achieve Call of Duty sales only left a bad taste, with people that tried the game calling it “Call of Evil”.
The fact the game is getting negative reviews tells me that Capcpom made some pretty bad choices.

However, I suspect Bores will adore this game because he got an early copy and won’t understand why the fans are so opposed to it.

We start on IG wearing a RE6 shirt. That’s different.
Of course he starts off mentioning he played this game at E3. That’s it, next time I’m writing up the Irate Gamer drinking game. There’s just so many things he does over and over that I think it’s required.

He brings up that the trailer they showed at E3 is how the game starts, and he likes how they start like that. Because that’s how Resident Evil should start, like an action movie. Running from infected dogs into a mansion? Getting attacked by villagers until the church bells ring? Well, that’s just boring.

IG says the game is fun and easy to pick up. Then for whatever reason brings up that he played Dead Island. What does that have to do with this? He says he found it hard to get into because he kept dying. Considering there’s no punishment for dying in that game, I don’t see how that stopped you. I just found the game repetitive and disappointing because like a lot of other people I was fooled by the trailer with the family. I will give it props for the amount of exploration that is possible.

But he likes RE6 because the controls are awesome (they are? Everything I’ve heard said the controls are crap) and how it’s smooth and that you can change the “difficulty selcth”. I think he means difficulty selection, and that’s in a lot of games so I don’t see how that feature is a positive. That’s like praising a game because you can pause it (something you can’t do in Resident Evil 6, what do you know).
He then brings up that if he got stuck, it’s because of something he did wrong. Oh hey, maybe they finally made the “easy setting more easier” like he wanted.

He mentions there’s a learning curve, wait hang on! Earlier you said it was easy to pick up! Does it have a learning curve, or is it easy to figure out? It can’t be both!
He swiftly moves on to mention that there are three storylines, then the game’s “creep factor“. Wow, he’s going fast and not really explaining his points all that well. It’s like he really, really wanted to get this video out by October 2nd.

He gushes about the graphics and how “realistic” they’re getting, then praises the storyline. Are you serious? The storyline? The story’s a joke! I hear a lot of it is told through library files (sounds very FFXIII) that you have to locate, and that all the new characters created solely for co-op reasons are pointless. Plus, how contrived is having Wesker’s son in the game? Yeah, I get the feeling Bores only started Resident Evil on the fifth game.

“Old school Resident Evil fans I think you’ll (pause) really enjoy this one” No, no they won’t. It’s a departure from what made Resident Evil the franchise it is. Why do you think there are three separate storylines? Because Capcpom couldn’t decide on what they wanted. They wanted a Western-style shooter, so we get Gears of Chris Redfield. The fans wanted something like RE4 so we got Leon’s campaign (which from what I’ve heard still isn’t that great). The fact people describe the game as a Michael Bay movie does not make it look good!
Then he says that anyone that’s new could easily get into this one. I recommend they don’t.
Yeah, it’s easy to tell from the footage that Bores only played like an hour or two of Leon’s campaign.

That was… not as bad as I thought it would be. Just boring.
It wasn’t as heinously bad as his Resident Evil 5 review, and it felt a bit more scripted than the DOA5 review from last week, but it was still a waste.
I’m surprised Bores didn’t mention the camera giving him motion sickness. The camera is one of the worst I’ve seen in a long time.

That’s it for now. I’ll give this post a few days to linger before I write up the Irate Gamer drinking game. Unless the next regular IG episode comes out within that time. We’ll see what happens.

EDIT: Guru Larry has pointed out that, once again, Bores stole the footage. We are unable to find out who as, this time, Bores zoomed in to hide the watermark (the zoom is how Larry found out it was stolen). But IGN or Gamespot sound like likely sources as both have watermarks in their videos. Plus, the game just came out so it's not like Cyberman65 or another independent video maker who had a full playthrough up on YouTube.
Good lord Chris, have you no shame?

EDIT 2: He posted another contest video, showing off some more stuff he got at E3 and announcing the winners of his previous contest. What's interesting is that one of the winners has already won before, and it just so happens to be that little brat he met in Florida. Jeez, could you make it any more obvious that these contests are shams? Not only has the same person won twice, but this kid also stays in contact with his mother! The same mother that has openly admitted to picking the winners.
So once again, any small time fans will not win his contests. You better be ultra-loyal and be nice to his mom. No matter how much of a psycho she acts like.

  1. Sheesh, it's like Bores knew that people would ask him if he's going to review Resident Evil 6 since he did a review on RE5 so he quickly buy the game from the store, play for 1 or 2 hours, quickly put the video footage onto his computer, edit it and posted this review up before the end of the day.

It's sad to see how far Resident Evil has fallen. I already knew this game would suck the moment they released their trailer back in January. And the fact that Wesker has a son totally ruins the franchise for me. Seriously?

And yeah, I too was also one of the people who were disappointed with Dead Island and was fooled by the trailer with the family. But you got to admit, that trailer was one of the most emotional and saddest trailers ever seen.

  3. and for some reason i can't edit my messages.
One thing is to be a bad reviewer and the other is being lazy. i mean in all reviews i have seen things are going downhill. the reviews are getting shorter and more simple and for that reason they have become boring. i like to see reviews of avgn , nostalgia critic and linkara and i now people have bad times ( bart nightmare anyone?) but this.. this is bad even for him and i don't mean in this review i mean in this year

  4. So Capcom screwed up again? How shocking..
(Seriously, wtf is WRONG with Capcom Oo ?)

I think you CAN have an easy-to-get-into game with a learning curve. It just depends how steep said curve is.

And sheesh, Bores must seriously find a middle ground between "reviewing the game half a year after release" and "reviewing it ASAP!". This rapid-fire release shedule seems to suggest that actually taking your time to PLAY the game you want to review is not one of his top priorities Oo

    1. "I think you can have an easy-to-get-into game with a learning curve. It just depends on how steep said curve is."

Well learning curve means how much prior experience and complex mechanics you need to know in order to consistently make moves that have the results the player intends to make. An easy to get into game naturally has a small learning curve. Of course just because a learning curve is small doesn't mean that it doesn't take skill to master (i.e worms, sword of the stars). You can't have an easy to get into game that has a steep learning curve can you.........?

@ the article: At this rate bore's entertainment value is gonna crash. People aren't going to him for points on the game. People are going to see his unique lack of research and flamboyant ego. Him making generic fast flaming crap isn't as fun to riff as his older reviews where they took time and effort (to make bad of course).

      Delete
    2. @Mr.Kill Ultra:

Well, the term "easy to learn, impossible to master" has to come from somewhere, doesn't it?

And yeah, most of his recent Neo stuff was rather meh.

  5. Ehh, it's not as bad as his review of Resident Evil 5 review, but it's still pretty lame. If RE6 is getting panned, I may not even want to rent it anymore. The only thing I can think of is whether this game or the Resident Evil Retribution movie will be the worse Resident Evil work this year. To be honest, I'm actually missing the time when he took months to review a new game, instead of kicking his Neo reviews out the door with the release. I can't believe I'm typing that, but I am. I'm hoping the next standard Irate Gamer episode is really bad, so we can get talking more. Haunted Investigators would make a good conversation topic, too.

    1. Considering how late it is in the year, he's probably only gonna' release two episodes of his normal shit, but, you know, he has plenty of time to film all this shit.

Haunted Investigators is going to be the same dumb, boring 'tard fest that it has always been. That is unless he steals a certain persons idea, however I doubt he will give it justice.

      Delete
    2. Lol haunted investigators I was talking to his mom (ladybuggin) How about how Irategamer doesn't need barely any money to make his videos because they have no effort pulled into them.
Then she says Oh stupid butthurt fanboy Haunted investigators costs him a lot of money he pays out of his own pocket.

    8. @ steven

It looks like my theory was correct! looking back on the the neo videos, none of them go past the first level, none of them have any sketches (does god of war 'sex scene' count) and none of them have use of special effects.

The reviews are short and only look over the first level because bore's can't even play the game properly (most people who don't regularly play games can't even do basic moves correctly, I watch a lot of people who don't play games regularly). Bore's can't cheat and he can't use 2D sprites because the game is in 3D.

Insane troll logic theories = 1
Sane theories = 0 (we are not dealing with the sane)

I wonder what would happen if Bores reviewed RTS games like C&C 4 or upcoming generals 2 mmo?

      Delete
  6. ANOTHER rushed Neo review? Sheesh! I don't see why this video, as well the Dead or Alive 5 video, needs to exist. Both of them do not go anywhere near in-depth about the game. How can anybody be happy with these videos? It's obvious that Chris did not get very far into either of them and he has no knowledge about them (to be honest, I am not a fan of either game genre, but you would think that Chris should actually provide some useful information about the games; he is REVIEWING them after all).
I was hoping that the Dead or Alive 5 post would be about the next Irategamer episode, but I guess I got my hopes too high. Oh well, I guess another month or two is not too much much of a wait, unless he somehow uploads it within this month. Just wait and see is all we can to do.
Also, I seriously wonder if Chris would ever do another Neo review focusing on a game for either the Wii or Xbox 360, or maybe I'm getting my hopes high for this thought as well. Actually, that might be a good thing (If he EVER reviews Kirby's Return to Dreamland or Kirby's Dream Collection for Wii, I will be pissed!!). I'm sorry but I will never forgive him for that disgrace of a video he dares to call a review of Kirby's Epic Yarn back in January 2011. I played it [Kirby's Epic Yarn] all the way through earlier this year and it's one of the best games for the Wii in my opinion.
Sorry for going off topic there (forgive me). Anyways, good blog post as always BatDan!

  7. Ehh, I know this game was gonna flop. I still wanna buy it from myself to see what the fuzz it's all about.

The problem with this is that it tries to pander with everybody (something I saw with the demo).

Though, if I can recommend a good game with zombies, try the Telltale Walking Dead game series.

I really don't know. One minute it's his mom, the next it's Bores, and then it's his mom again. Either way is equally pathetic.

    4. I say we should get all the evidence together in post in really mom and actually bores categorization.

Really Mom: Fuck I don't really know of any

      Actually bores:
      - Use of Irate gamer's account to reply to send an insult
      - Use of similar language between the two
      - Similar ability to use a keyboard
      - Similar lack of maturity and lame comebacks
      - Stating that she was a zombie in the zombie ate my neighbors review. (They were all Chris bores)
      - Picking the winners of the contest
      - and some other shit about there being a real chris bore's mom account. "Linda de caro" or some shit.

its true either way it's embarrassing, but it's also the point of this blog to keep track of Bore's attempt to cause chaos on the internet.

      Delete
    5. Eric Allen (the Wise Sage) stated that LadyBuggin really is Chris' Mom and that she has access to his account. That would explain all the insults and why people get blocked so fast.

Of course, there's still the chance that Eric Allen is lying, but I see no reason why he wouldn't be trustworthy.

      Delete
    6. But that's the problem, that's the only evidence we have. It makes no sense why she would use Irate gamer's account. There's still the other crap too. Like why she never shows up any video. The completely ridiculous picture of herself. (P.S could someone send that pic to me or could they use Sauce nao to figure out where the pic came from? thanks)

We have people like stella who have stated that bore's mother has nothing to do with her son. There's too much evidence to be blown away by some guy who's been completely disowned by Irate Gamer. Just think about how much friction it would create in Eric Allen's life if he flat out admitted it. That's a good enough reason already. Bore's does seem like the kind of person who is good at being a jackass in real-life.

      Delete
    7. Whether LadyBuggin really is Chris's mother is irrelevant, it's either Chris or his mother. Eric Allen may well be being lied to himself. Whatever the case, things are seriously fucked up in the Bores household.

    8. I was blocked by LadyBuggin after commenting on Irategamer's videos to tell him to stop being a douchebag since he steals a box of cereal from his friend in his TMNT cereal video, stealing an expensive comic book and murdering Scottie in his second episode of Chris and Scottie Roadtrip and blowing up Ubisoft.

    3. I think I figured out how bores works.
Every review he looks on encyclopeidadramatica.se for info on the game if they dont have them he just makes shit up
When making the review he gives himself a timer to how long he can make an episode without having another take.
And when he edits them he puts bananas everywhere
      TYPICAL IRATEGAMER EPISODE.

  10. I also see Mr. Bores is back to stealing other people's footage again!

But he's been a little bit smarter this time and zoomed in the video to make sure the watermark isn't on screen for those clips!

It'll be harder to track as to whose footage it is, but he probably edited this today or yesterday, so very few people have uploaded footage so far, so I'm guessing IGN or gamespot. Someone that has a watermark in the bottom right of the screen.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Oh shit, that's interesting if true (I don't actually watch IG's videos, I don't want to give him views... period). This wouldn't be the first time he's stolen footage. Anyone check if he stole DOA5's footage?

      Delete
    2. *checks* Oh damn it you're right. The footage is zoomed in going by the HUD in the bottom right. It's never supposed to be that close.

Of course, by zooming in we don't know who he stole from. Though the sites you mentioned are likely.

      Delete
    3. It's definitely stolen though, there's no reason to zoom in on only those clips and not others other than to hide something, namely a watermark.

If it was zoomed because of an aspect ratio issue, ALL the clips would be zoomed in.

      Delete
    4. I did notice the clips were inconsistent. I think the ones that aren't zoomed in are from the demo. Plenty of people on YouTube played the demo so that could be from anyone.

Even if whoever uploaded the footage finds out that Bores steals the footage from him, Gotgame will just post a text that the footage is courtesy of that person and will NOT suspend Bores and still let him stay in their website.

This is why Bores never learns his lesson because Gotgame never punishes him at all. *Sigh*

  11. It sounds like Chris is going to be doing a lot more Neo videos after now.

Ninja Gaiden 3 and Resident Evil 6 both received negative reception. After Chris giving both games a positive review, chances are he's going to be receiving a lot more early copies, therefore more Neo videos. Developers want to benefit off positive reviews, so I can see why they would want to send Chris Bores more games.

  14. Hey guys, I wondered if you have a problem with people who truly enjoyed the game. Not in a Irate Gamer kind of way who praised it for the wrong reasons but in a more Enjoy it despite the flaws the game offered?

In my opinion, the hatred for the game was way too overblown. Not to say it merits it, the thing at E3 with the developpers saying it was the next Lost was stupid but, if you play it, maybe you could be surprised.

Not that I have anything against anyone hating the game but, I don't see where the real hatred came for.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The game is not as hated as you think. Hell all the controversy and shit just gets the game a 70% on average from user votes.

I haven't played the game but I have watched let's play and walkthroughs for the game. The problem is with poor scripting and lazy level design.

Assume you are playing dead space (1 or 2) and you see a monster lying dead on the floor. If you walk up to it, it'll jump up and attack you causing a quick time event (QTE). BUT you can shoot the monster dead before any of that happens, even when its on the floor.

Now you are playing resident evil 6. You see a monster sitting still on the ceiling. If you walk past the chair in the room you will lose control of your character while the monster slowly slinks down, grabs your character and initiates a QTE in which you must spin your left stick so fast, you'll likely break it or you will be pushed into a spinning fan head-first and die. You cannot at any point shoot the monster. YOU MUST TRIGGER THIS SCENE. that's just lazy.

Other highlights include, rescue dumb bitch from jammed subway car doors. Watch as she runs over and pushes button to open garage door stand still while a single zombie slowly, slowly and quite lamely kills her with the camera forcing you to look at it even as enemies flood the room. You can fire your weapons at any point you so choose but all shots will pass through the girl-killing zombie while its doing the girl-killing.

The game goes out of its way to ensure you have no control as a player and plays Calvin ball to screw with you. Don't want a QTE to interrupt game-play? FUCK YOU, YOU CAN'T!
Don't want the camera to zoom in on something totally unimportant taking focus away from the monster right in front of you?
      SEE ABOVE!

There's also plenty of sorry you don't get to live moments, such as car drives around corner and hits you (if your in the wrong spot of which there's no indication). Other points of criticism include; not getting enough ammo (especially with ammo wasted in attempts to deal with poor scripting mentioned above), aiming while running is pointless, too many large scale fight scenes with too little ammo, too many large enemies who take too much ammo to kill, not enough ammo in general and kick being better than using any other gun in the game*.

As for the question, Do I hate people who like this game?
      Nope
It's okay to love a game despite its flaws. There are plenty of games I love that have major problems to them. Hell a lot of games people love have problems to them. Starcraft shipped with dozens of glitches that caused the game to freeze (try having an SCV repair a unit that's going into a dropship). Soul calibur IV doesn't count sword slashes that go through heads as a hit. Part of being a gamer is realizing that you can enjoy games based on their merits alone and that just because a game didn't live up to the hype doesn't mean that its not fun.

*I should remind everyone that reviewers are just a (usually paid) vocal part of gaming community. They also have to deal with changing times and changing attitudes. Back when Doom came out every FPS was called a doom clone. Often, before a genre (or sub-genre) is established, reviewers are unaware of how popular a type of game-play might be and simply write a negative review. Look at Metal Fatigue, a good game (with some flaws due to its age). The problem was that RTS as a genre wasn't accepted so reviewers made complaints like "all you need to do is use swarms of multiple types of units" or "The resource system keeps accurate track of resource gain per second, which clearly means the game can't decide to C&C or Total Annihilation".

      Times change, Tastes change
good lord this a long post... Sorry everyone =)

    4. @Mr. Kill Ultra.

I started to understand the flaws as they keep coming.

My enjoyment of the game started to fade after playing it for a while.

I also have complains about the game who were quite annoying.

The first was the cursor who keeps appearing showing you where to go. I don't like when a game holds my hand and tells me to follow him. It gets annoying when it tells me where is the weapon or the destination to go. The game is too linear for having a cursor like that. I also can't remove the cursor because it also remove the hud and this I need more than anything.

Next is the cover system. Surely this one is light years behind Mass Effect 2 and 3 and the Gears Of War series as you can't press the A button and it automatically cover you. Nope. Instead you have to press the aiming button and for waist height structure, you have to press A while holding the aiming button. That's a really stupid way to cover.

And lastly, the game doesn't gave you a good tutorial. And the loading screen gave you useless advice like "To kill the J'avo, you have to shoot them in the head." No shit. I already know about that. I mean, for a newcommer, how would he know about dodging, go to cover, etc? It's never told anywhere in the game. Except in the instruction booklet.

And finally, I agree with you on the lack of ammo. It's really dumb.

That makes me sounds like a hypocrite because, back then, I said I enjoyed it, but I was playing for one hour and that's not enough time to see the flaws. Now, I've played enough time to see the problem.

P.S: I'm serious about playing The Walking Dead Videogame. It's really THAT good.

    5. It's fascinating how a franchise that basically invented this "Over the right shoulder camera"-gameplay can feel so antiquated Oo

Unskippable QTE scenes are probably a lazy way to show shock and jump scare scenes, because those are totally what makes a game scary.

Again, what's wrong with Capcom Oo ?

    6. This seems to be the year of "let's fuck up our really good franchises". With EA killing all their franchises, especially C&C with MMO pay to win crap. Activision going even more nuts with the call of duty milking and Capcom just plain ignoring fans. Bandai is pushing No export for you despite there being a really good third-person shooter they could easily profit the fuck off of if they exported it. THQ is going bankrupt because they spent all their money on Warhammer 40k online. It seems that no one this year wants to make money.

    8. "No no no, I hate this "companies hate making money" mindset everyone seems to have. They just made some business decisions no one liked because gamers are spoiled entitled brats who have no idea how to run a gaming company and need to learn how business work" -Invisible Crane

Now I'm glad you had a change of heart and decided to take a stand against impulsive thinking and Troll logic and we're proud of you for it. The fact of the matter is, gamer's do not need good business sense to tell whether or not they're gonna like the coming product. Gamer's are their consumer base, so if the gamer community unanimously agrees it's a bad idea, then well no money for them. And as you realized, it's not business principle to piss off the consumer base.

But it seems that companies these days are just making rapid fire "Fuck you player!" decisions. EA and its wide-scale pay to win attitude, making more F2P MMOs out of C&C. Capcom screwing up mechanics that have already been done properly (resident evil 5 had cover systems, good aiming and ability to look at special events optionally by pressing a button) and canceling many of their megaman related projects. Activision is well, do you want to see the same game every goddamn year?

It is undeniable that these are bad business practices.

Props to you for removing your own comment! =)

Its a shame that I'm subscribed by email so I can read everything you type.

    1. That's strange, he's already won a contest before. Is his mom out of loyal fans to handpick?

    2. My God... the uncomfortable pauses. The fumbling.

    3. He's (His mom's) really gonna' alienate his not-so die-hard fans that enter the contest.

    1. Well it was a contest, and the contest is over now. So it makes sense for him to disable comments there.

I thought you meant the new video. No that still has the floods of "PICK ME".

    1. Well if you've got the time for it... I mean honestly it's not gonna solve anything. If you occupy ladybuggin's time (who is obviously bores because that's the only explanation for why he doesn't do anything for long periods of time) its not like she won't have other people to waste time on. Do note how I subtly called bores a girl. IN FACT, I would be shocked if bores was a guy*.

*yeah I think I'm about done being serious about this issue, till next time folks!

  20. Rather than giving away his useless IG merchandise, Bores should have given away the Re6 stuff he got from Capcom. It should go to an actual fan of the series, not someone who couldn't even beat the first level of the easiest game in the series.

By the way, I'm very disappointed in all the reviews for the game. Looks like I might wait to pick this one up, Borderlands 2 is keeping me busy anyways.

  21. Its painfully obvious that Bores knows jack shit about any of the resident evil games.

He should not have "Reviewed" resident evil 5 or 6.

Good thing he did not try to explain the plot of 6 like he did with 5, that was horrible.

  22. I think it's a little overblown to say it's getting totally negative reviews; that's not true. Some reviews (G4,Gamespot,Destructoid) have given average to poor reviews, but other places like GameTrailers and Game Informer gave it pretty good reviews.

    1. yeah on average its 69% (user reviews). So really its not a bad game, but its bad by resident evil standards. It also doesn't help that this the second time Capcom didn't learn its lesson (operation racoon city). The article sounds like the game is absolutely horrible but its only bad because it has some glaring flaws. We've made posts about this already, you may wish to scan the comments section again.

    2. Well, mostly reviews will just prize it for being another shooter, gaining automatically a good note, because as we know, we are at the Shooter Age of Gaming.

For me, Resident Evil 5 was a good action game, but a bad Resident Evil game. Resident Evil 6 is not even a good action game or a good Resident Evil game.

      But well, opinions, opinions....

    3. So far I've played about an hour of Leon's campaign, and it's entertaining enough. I generally hate QTEs and so having so many rubs me the wrong way but the atmosphere of it so far feels like RE to me.

Granted most reviews I've seen seem to like Leon and Ada's campaigns and dislike Chris' and Jake's, so I guess I'll find out for sure when I play those. And likely that will be my feelings as I liked Leon's demo and didn't care particularly too much about the other 2.

    4. Yes, this I can agree. Leon and Ada are the closest of Resident Evil you can get.

I really HATED Chris and Jake campaign. Which is sad, because I think Roger Graig Smith once again was the best voice actor in the game.

  23. Bores should play all his newer games on twitch.tv, just to show us that he really is playing the game for 40 hours or so.

    1. It didn't last for long, because Resident Evil was brought back to greatness thanks to the two Revelations games and RE7.

  25. Call me crazy but I liked RE6, honestly the early RE games never really did it for me, terrible voice acting and dialogue("Jill Sandwich"? were the writers drunk/high when they came up with that?), horrible save system, irritating and contrived puzzles, etc. I don't see a problem with the controls in RE6, it's nice to finally be able to move and shoot at the same time and I did like the story, I think some people have rose-colored glasses when it comes to the early RE games, they weren't very good in the story department(WTF was up with that murant rape in part 2?) I'm loving the more-aciton oriented approach to the series.

That said Bores didn't really do a good job reviewing the game.
