He Did It Again! Bores Strokes His Ego Over Making "300" Videos

It's been a while since we've seen Bores congratulate himself over doing so very little. So we were due for some ego stroking, and what better than for Bores to celebrate 300 overall videos. No, this isn't 300 episodes of a specific series, this is celebrating putting 300 videos up on YouTube.
*sighs* Chris, you shouldn't celebrate the quantity of videos. You should celebrate the quantity of actual episodes you made. In fact, let me count the actual episodes. Two-parters released the same day count as one, two-parters released separately count as two.
*counts* Wow, 32 Irate Gamer episodes. That's not counting his "mini-sodes" like Top 5 NES games or Retro Mini, or the History of Video Games series. After five plus years you still haven't made it 50 episodes.
You know what these are other videos are? Lazy Neo reviews, contests, unboxing Skylanders, and a shit-ton of E3. A good number of the last 100 videos involve you turning on the camera and talking to it for a minute. That's not getting into videos you deleted or never uploaded to YouTube (like the Sonic Generations review that will serve as an eternal testament to your laziness).

So what's in the 300th video?
He starts by thanking his fans (what's left of them) and going over how he started. He claims he started out a parody of other video game reviewers. Bullshit! If it was a parody, you wouldn't claim you put your blood, sweat and tears into an angel/devil effect in one episode. It's the same excuse Game Dude used when people called him out for making bad videos or stealing material. Look up "parody retcon".

He moves on to mentioning the sale he's having on his merch to celebrate his 5th anniversary. Kind of strange that took him months after the actual anniversary to do this. Also, his site mentions that "once the item is gone, it's gone". I don't think this is so much a celebration sale as it is a "everything must go" sale.

The rest of the video sounds like a giant update. Oh this ought to be good. Take us there pointless transition effect!
He mentions that his fans know about his "rotation". What rotation? You've never given a clear "rotation" of how you work!
He says the next video will be an HD revision of the second episode on the Magnavox Odyssey. Since I'm sure people were clamoring for that stupidity to get re-released. For those that don't remember, he re-released Part 1 in HD a while ago. The only differences were less awkward timing on a couple scenes, a change of wardrobe, and the removal of cursing. Apparently it needs to be "family fucking friendly"
Oh but he claims there will be new material. Don't care, not going to cover it when he releases it, already suffered through it back in 2009.
After that, he mentions Part 6 and he's getting closer to his favorites like Galaga and Dig Dug. Oh yeah, I'm sure they're your actual favorites and you're not just saying that to make yourself come off as a hardcore gamer. *rolls eyes*

Next is I Poorly Explain the 80s. He says he has 4-5 episodes planned, including a two-parter *readies beer* and... a DVD. *headdesk* Bad idea, very very bad idea. Especially if he doesn't alter the footage on the He-Man or Kinnikuman videos. Mattel and Toei would end his ass. Really, I imagine the only people that would buy that are the dumb kids that try to make me look bad. Say, what happened to Charlie? Did his parents finally take away his internet privileges?

Onto the regular Irate Gamer show. He says that storyline he's doing only has 1 or 2 episodes left. THANK FUCKING GOD! Holy shit that storyline has been absolute pain on every level. After he finishes he'll move back to regular episodes. So we'll have more stupidity like the Aladdin review? We shall see.

He moves onto the Paranormal stuff and that's where I skip ahead. He shows a random clip from his X-Men review and the video ends.

Once again, it's not about the quantity of overall videos. It's about the quantity and quality of the actual episodes you put forward. You can't count all these stupid contest videos and be proud of them. You especially can't be proud of the lazy Neo reviews where you only play for an hour and claim that's good enough.
Pffft, early videos were parodies. At least one thing is constant, he still continues to lie to his audience.

What? It hasn't? Oh, then fuck him.

  2. Wow! I just celebrated my birthday and Bores just released this "video". Way to end a fairly good day of festive cheer on a downer.

  3. I do enjoy that I've done 282 reviews, and all of them being reviews and not "trailers, contests, etc..."

  4. Retsupurae has around 340 videos if I'm correct. Do note they started their channel over a year after Bores did.

    Haha

  5. 1:00 So one of the ways he wanted to thank us fans, it's been five years, and he thought he would have just this massive sale on theirategamer.com. Um, you know he has, T-shirts up there, DVDs, mousepads, um, and everything's 50% off to commemorate, uh, the five years of being, uh, on YouTube.

For example: The IRATE Gamer DVD Volume 1
    regular price: $14.99
    SALE Price: $7.99

So: 50% off! He maths as good as he videos.

  6. I hope that I won't ever say the words "Bores celebrates 10 years of the Irate Gamer" 5 years from now...

  7. The downfall of IG is coming in the next 1-2 years (Not by him stopping making videos he will do that until he is dead) Im talking about fans I expect a massive drop in fans if he keeps doing what he is doing right now.
I have looked through some comments of his Skylanders shit and 50-60% of them are fans complaining how it is boring and even on his Real Real gaming review hardcore fans were calling it shit.
Looks like Chris is starting to burn out.

    1. Seems he should care more about his fans, seeing how a lot of them want more retro reviews, which he seems to avoid recently (or they just take forever because of his "epic" storyline)...

  8. I'd say quantity plays a certain role, but not the measurement he used. 300 episodes sound a lot less impressive if most of them barely go over 5 minutes.

And shouldn't he focus on making NEW HOVG episodes instead of making the old ones HD Oo ?

    1. That would mean more research, i.e. checking Wikipedia.

Seriously considered, though, he probably enjoys the technical, production-related aspects of the 'job' more than the creative ones. He strikes me as technically skilled enough to perhaps do local commercials or something. His writing and performing, though... well, there you go.

And what does it say about his zeal for the job that he is so squirmingly uncomfortable on camera his THREE HUNDREDTH time doing it? He'd probably serve another review show much better by handling the tech stuff and letting a performer do the performing.

      Delete
    2. If only he would check Wikipedia, he could avoid all those research errors...

He might be technically skilled, but considering how long his videos take him, I'm not sure how efficient he works.

And right, how can one make 300 videos without improving his acting Oo ?

      Delete
    3. Actually, it's the ad-libbed quality of his recent videos (like 300) that's so excruciating. Like he quickly memorized a few points he wanted to hit, didn't bother to script them, and hit "Record." His scripted acting is by no means good, but at least he doesn't pause in the middle of the sentence and grope for the next clause.

      Delete
    4. Too bad. He could've used these scence for his blooper DVD extra...

      Delete
  9. Good lord, can Bores' ego be anymore disgusting? And saying that his reviews are 'parodies' is like the laziest excuse ever. Ugh.

    ReplyDelete
  10. It's kind of ironic. I remember, after seeing his latest Irate the 80's TMNT comic book review, that he had 299 videos uploaded. I thought, I wonder what he will do for his 300th video? Something special or not? I was actually thinking it would be the latter, but I guess I was wrong.
On a side note, I seriously doubt Chris will make another 300 videos as he said at the end. I actually am wondering if he will even reach 400 videos. There is no way that he can keep this show going forever. Eventually, he will have to end it and start doing something else that is productive outside of the internet.

Great show of humanitarianism! But sadly given that there are a good portion of internet sociopaths that still have yet to get on with their life (no I will not name any), it seems rather slim considering that Bores has yet to do anything else or show improvement for many years he's spent. We can only hope that there will be a day where this blog is abandoned, serving only as a testament to a man who finally got his act together after years of just not getting it.

      Delete
    2. Kinda makes you wonder what he is going to do after his show crashes and burns. If it involves film, I doubt it will be anything big considering he "left" college, has a huge gap in his employment history and seems to have quite a shite work ethic. Also, do you think he will put his YouTube channel on his CV as a career?

      Delete
    3. @KUKEDUKE
If he did, that would be stupid.
Whatever a person does on the internet does not change who he/she is in real life (not usually at least). In Chris' case, I don't think being a YouTube partner and having once held the "prestigious award" of being the 55th most subscribed channel on YouTube will give him an advantage during a job interview. What matters in a job interview is things from your personal life, like years of education for example.
If Chris did put his YouTube channel on a CV for a career, it would prove how much of an ego he has.

    4. @Shadow19:

I thought employers like searching the internet for infos on their applicants, or is that just a German thing Oo ?

      Delete
    5. @Doresh
While you do have a good point, I don't think an employer will look at a YouTube channel (let's take IG's account), see the 135,000 subscriber count, and give the owner of the channel a high position in a business plus a raise in pay.
I guess there could be some factors that an employer will use the internet for when considering an applicant (years of education, drug use, criminal record, etc.), but I can not say for sure if this is true for all regions of the world.

      Delete
    6. Well to be honest being 55th most subscribed channel on Youtube is hardly something to write home about, especially when you consider that it was in 2008 when the site was only just getting started. Heck I've got 600 followers on Tumblr and I've never brought it with my friends up because it really doesn't matter.

Somehow I feel Bores loves to bring up the fact that he's a 'internet sensation' whenever he can.

      Delete
    7. @Shadow19:

I didn't say this internet search is used to find out positive traits of an applicant. It's rather about searching Facebook and Co. for drunk pictures and stuff.

In Bores' case, I don't think a slow, irregular schedule and rather bad quality that NEVER improves would be seen as all that positive.

      Delete
    8. @Shadow19
Yeah, pretty much. Then again, assuming he doesn't have a job IRL, what else is he going to put on it?

Also, I wonder how Pursuit of the Paranormal is going. According to the pre-order page, it is still seeking distribution. It sort of makes me wonder if Bores thought this would be his big break, the next step in his "career", Like the next Paranormal Activity of something. Considering his ego, I'm probably correct.

  11. Oh and guys if you notice that I make a lot of substitute words (but non-sensical) or are simply missing words in my comments or some shit like that. That was probably because I was typing on the university campus computers, whose keyboards are mostly broken and prone to catastrophic hardware failure. Does this excuse me? Nope, but it certainly does explain why some of my comments are just plain missing words.

    3. I liked the trailer! I waited on pins and needles for it, and now that it's up it looks funny and exciting. But mostly I'm happy for James, who's earned a feature film, and eager to see a funny yarn deeply rooted in video game history.

Also, if it weren't for James, we charming people would never have found each other.

    7. The trailer is about what I expected. It was mostly entertaining, but what's funny in a three-minute trailer might wear itself thin in a two-hour movie. I'm hoping it's not just a drawn-out AVGN skit, hoping for something more like "Waynes World" and less like "Waynes World 2"

It was pretty entertaining, unlike the content put out by other "reviewers"...

    9. Shaolin Dave - well said about Wayne's World and Wayne's World 2, I thought I was the only one who thought that!

Also, does being an Archfiend fan (and kinda-sorta agreeing with him vis-á-vis e-begging) make me a bad person?

As far as AVGN, I got off him years ago as his quality declined (same with Doug Walker). But going back, old NC episodes are still funny. Old AVGN episodes (to my utmost surprise) are little more than shallow strings of over-exaggerated profanity. I like his 'multi-game' episodes the best, but even those are a little bit overladen with kaka-poopoo humour and f- and s-bombs for my 27-year-old taste. Back in '07, though? Hilarious stuff. Back then, I didn't use to mind the Irate Gamer either, I watched his vids with half an ear and then moved on. Does THAT make me a bad person? :p

      Delete
    10. @pedro
No, being an archfiend fan and not liking the e-begging scenario does not make you a bad person as long as you remembered to do proper research hold James responsible for the things he is actually responsible for.

Yeah some of the episodes are really lame like the Dick Tracy ending. The whole swear for 30 seconds gimmick gets over-baked really really quickly. Still the nerd tries to avoid using it too much (though he still manages to do it) but his old (and some of his new) reviews are still good in my opinion.

      Delete
    11. Another doubt I have ever since hearing about 'e-begging' is this: last year, the Admin of a forum I was part of put out a donation plea to get us a proper domain name (we were on jcink before). I chipped in with $5 and got a special VIP status (only myself and the two other donators had it, and one of them was the Admin, so really there were only two visible VIPs of that type).

At the time I had no gripes with it - it was something I WANTED to thrive, and I was contributing towards that - but later on, after hearing about ebeggars, it made me wonder if that wasn't what the Admin had done. I also felt guilty for donating to that, but not the countless charities eBay suggests I donate £1 to - although I do donate to charities through shopping in charity shops or in person.

      REPOSTED DUE TO PARAGRAPH FAIL.

      Delete
    12. Remember e-begging is money for nothing. Donating is money given to fund a cause with no promise of returns. Investing is giving money to fund a cause with expected returns.

      Delete
    13. So do you guys consider what TJ (TheAmazingAtheist), Cloud of Natural Born Gamers and spinnernet1 did e-begging? Because to me, they did e-beg. James was a bit more justified, because he had an actual expensive goal to achieve, but I still think he should have a. chipped in out of pocket (which he very likely did) b. sought external sponsors (which he nay have) before turning to his fans for donations/investments/money.

Like I said, I don't really care - at this point, I'm little more than a casual observer of the Internet, and people can do whatever they want as far as I'm concerned (and as long as it's not something really bad, like rape, sex with underage people when you're not underage, animal abuse, etc). Just wondering where the line is drawn on this matter.

      Delete
    14. Well for me the criteria is the following:
      1. The asked amount of money is reasonable
      2. The completed project would benefit/entertain everyone
      3. There's an established or assumed plan for how the money will be spent. This is the biggest point because its important to know the efficiency and degree of which your money is gonna be spent.

If any of the above are broken and not justified by adherence to the other 2 rules then I consider it e-begging.

In all honesty though, I seriously don't give 5 fucking shits about e-begging. Contrary to popular believe, you are not investing your money, you are donating it! YOU did not buy stock or sign a contract. Therefore you did not invest and thus have no assets in this endeavor. Stop acting like you are a shareholder of a major company! And if you honestly are afraid of wasting your money, then at least wait until after the finish product or after a long period of time (aka 1 week past due date/update) before complaining)

      Delete
  14. Well to be honest, 32 episodes do sound like a lot. However, the Irate Gamer started in 2007. Within that time, the AVGN has released over 100 episodes.

In comparison, Chris Bores really needs to pick up the pace.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Releasing 32 videos within 5 years is really sad. It's like Bores really doesn't have any interest in making video game reviews at all so why bother continuing it. Nerd on the other hand as already made over a 100 videos since 2006 because his love and passion for video games and film making is there. Bores is only making videos because...well...of ad revenues.

      Delete
  15. I too have seen the trailer for AVGN's movie. It looks pretty incredible. I liked the part when he's in the cockpit of a spaceship with an alien, talking about how terrible he is at Top Gun. I'd love to see this in theaters, but I know I'm definitely getting it on DVD when it's released.

As for Norman Bores's 300th video. Yawn. Whatever. More bull, more ego stroking... No interest. Looking forward to his eventual crash and burn.

    1. I could say I've written 177 articles and be proud of that, but it'd be counting the minor announcements too, and I'd feel like an idiot for counting them.

Bores apparently is the man without shame.

      Delete
  16. So let me see here... He first did this when he hit hit 200th video, and now his 300th... If there's a pattern to be found here, the next will be his 350th, and after that his 375th... If he keeps that up, he'll have more videos of him patting himself on the back than of his main series.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Also, is he really going to finish his story arc in one or two episodes? Because given his pacing so far and how the robot invasion and pixel demon plotlines were resolved, I can only imagine how big of an anticlimax it's going to be. I predict that it will either culminate in a fight scene that involves Bores finishing off the bad guys in one shot before they can even attack, proving himself once again to be the world's biggest Marty Stu, or ROB will stop them while he continues to abuse his superpowers and act like a complete asshole while still having people call him a chosen hero. Also, do you think there's going to be some sort of big reveal regarding the Shadow Lordverlord? If there is, it'll probably either be a case of remember the new guy or a cheap joke, like Cousin Joey being the villain or something stupid.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I presume the Shadow Overlord will look nothing like his silhouette suggest (probably a sprite or stupid costume). It's somehow more fitting that way.

If he's feeling creative, it might turn out that the Shadow Overlord is just the black 2d silhouette, meaning we've always seen his true form.

  26. I wrote 297 reviews (soon to be 298) over a period of 8 years, for a site I contribute to. I'm pretty proud of that, especially since I have more reviews than anyone else on there, including the few old-timers left.

I don't brag about it, though. Except when I need to pull rank on n00bs within the site itself.

  27. Hi-ho! I'm back after being out for two weeks with a broken Mac charger. I have done 236 videos for my YouTube channel, and very few of them are pats on the back for myself. They are as follows:
    17 Movie Reviews
    10 Toy Reviews (27)
13 Rants, Responses, and Wish Lists (40)
    13 episode reviews of Thundercats 2011 (53)
    3 Discussions (56)
11 episode reviews of Young Justice (67)
14 episode reviews of Green Lantern: The Animated Series (81)
7 episode reviews of Pokémon Indigo League (88)
39 episode reviews of Pokémon BW Rival Destinies (127)
24 episode reviews of Transformers Prime (151)
85 videos that have not yet been categorized in playlists.
All of this in less time than Bores has been active. I can see Bores burning out soon. Also, apparently I'm no longer banned. I left a comment on the TMNT comic Irate the 80s, hopefully I won't have to deal with LadyBuggin777. I'm still coming to terms with the fact she's the real deal; and has the same syntax and grammar of her ignoramus of a son.
