"In-Depth" Skylanders Giants, Except He Confused "In-Depth" with "Padding"

Man oh man, Bores has been hyping the fuck out of this game. Five videos previewing it with Bores gushing over how great it is. Halo 4? Assassin’s Creed III? Dishonored? Wii U? FUCK THAT! Real gamers overhype Skylanders Giants!
Yeah, his Skylanders obsession has gotten annoying. I didn’t even bother to cover the many videos he made as I found them pointless. But you know why he made them? They got him views. At the time of this post, his first preview video has over 392k views. His Silver Surfer review only has 122k. None of his E3 2012 videos managed to break 100k, except for the Skylanders Giants one, managing to get 243k. His video about the full roster is his most viewed video of the year with over 400k views.

And so his review of the full game is here. Clocking in at 6:18, it’s his second longest Neo review to date, and his longest Neo review of a single game. The 3-in-1 was 6:21. To let us know it’s “serious”, he even titles the review with “in-depth”. Yeah, I don’t know how much “in-depth” you can get out of “Gauntlet for kids”.
Also, the video was posted on YouTube instead of GotGame. Since Skylanders = Views, and Views = Money and… yeah you get it.

0:01 - 0:15: Instead of starting off with the Neo intro, we get IG with a desk full of Skylanders saying he knows people have been waiting for this review, and then the Neo intro.

0:16 - 1:59: IG goes over various improvements from the first game and… he’s actually doing a competent job. Why can’t he do this for every other game? What makes Skylanders so special?
Even though most of it is gushing over the graphics, yes it’s still an Irate Gamer video.
He brings up how the Skylanders speak English now, but is annoyed that a couple of characters no longer speak in gibberish. *looks around* Nope, I see not one fuck given about that.
He brings up the graphics again, then says it looks “too good” and misses the “grittiness” of the original. That wasn’t a style choice, that was probably a limitation. Since the first game was a hit, they were given a lot more to work with, and a lot more polish.

2:00 - 3:48: He moves to the figures because they’re a “major part of this franchise”. Well no shit, considering that the game only works if you have the figures!
Most of this is complaining about the Giants, how they’re too slow and hopes they don’t use this “gimmick” again. Stop calling everything a gimmick! I don’t think you know what that word means, along with “well-deserved”.
He mentions he rarely plays with them. So why complain?
Oh, because he gets into how he stores his figures. WHO THE FUCK CARES? Oh, apparently the fans do because he brings up that they asked how he stores them. Nobody was asking that, quit lying. Then he shows how he stores by element. In-depth my ass, this has turned to padding at this point! His problem with the Giants is they don’t fit in his box. *sighs* Does this go anywhere?
He says the new smaller Skylanders are good and my apathy continues to grow.

3:49 - 4:22: He gets into the various characters, noting the NPCs from the first game returned and that George Takei has a role, prompting an “Oh My”. Uggh, don’t do that again Bores. You don’t have the voice for Takei.
He mentions a couple other celebrity voice actors, both very C-List.

4:23 - 5:18: He moves to the accessories. They work.
The unlockable stages also work, but only received graphical upgrades
The old figures work and… this is getting tedious.
The Skylanders sidekicks work, but he complains about this icon in the bottom of the screen they have. That looks like such a non-issue that… Bores is just reaching at this point.
He complains there’s no cut scenes with the Skylanders interacting with each other. Well that makes sense since the game is reliant on you buying the figures. Just wait for the possible animated series that will probably happen. I don’t know, I really don’t care.

He moves to the final verdict. Finally!
Blah blah if you like Skylanders you’ll love this…
He brings up he has fun playing this with younger kids. Where the fuck are you playing this with younger kids? That’s just… creepy. Especially since you don’t have children!
He complains about scalpers, disagrees with fans about there being “too many characters”. Well, those fans were probably referring to the Series 2 figures, the repurposed characters from the first game.
He tells Activision to keep the character count “low” for the third game (HAHAHA No, there’s gold in them children’s pockets so why do that?)
He says his stupid catchphrase, then recycles that sketch from the first Skylanders video where he appears in the game. Lazy.

So that was… ehhhhh. There’s a lot of other things he could have mentioned like the ability to go through both upgrade paths, or how there’s a super move, or how the level cap has been raised or how his complaint about difficulty in the first game has been remedied with selectable difficulty levels (reading all this from articles I found). That way it would have really been in-depth. A lot of this felt like padding, especially the part about storing his figures. However, the biggest problem isn’t so easily seen. Why doesn’t have this attention to other games? People would give him less shit if this is how he reviewed games, not “play for an hour and consider that good enough”. Not “steal footage from other YouTube users and try to pass it off as my own”. Not “rush out a 2 minute review to make the release date of a new game”. What makes Skylanders so special? Is it the fact that it’s easy? I don’t understand!

*sighs* Whatever, I’m done.

  1. This obsessioni s really starting to get weird. Well, at least he has now become a gamer (meaning he finally gives a shit about his review's subject) - I guess... Oo

Halo 4, Assassin’s Creed III and Wii U could be quickly summarized in one of his generic "If you love previous entries in this franchise, you'll probably love this new entry!" review. Not so sure about Dishonored. Maybe he'll be oblivious to the stealth elements.

  2. Honestly this wasn't a bad review. Probably because this is the first neo game that he actually bothered to play for more than an hour.
I am surprised he didn't complain about the difficulty though, didn't he hate Kirby's Epic Yarn because it was too "easy"? Something tells me that if this was a Nintendo game he'd be bitching about how it's too kiddy.

  4. Now that he has reviewed the game, I hope he stops talking so much about Skylanders. It has gotten really annoying at this point. It makes me wonder; when and how did he become so infatuated with this franchise in the first place?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Well he does seem to have a thing for collecting things. In fact that may be the reason why he started to do 'gaming' in the first place; he seems to be the collecting type looking at his I-Rate-The-80s table of detritus he has. I would not be surprised if he has some sort of OCD but seeing how tidy his house is I wouldn't call him a hoarder, just a compulsive collector.

      Delete
    2. Maybe he does so many Skylanders reviews because it's an easy excuse to keep making videos. He doesn't have to work too hard, and the fact that it's based on a series of collectibles means there's a lot of material for videos.

Not that it isn't an obnoxious source for a series of videos that wears out its welcome quickly. But when have we noted Chris his perceptiveness?

  5. While I think Bore's statement that he played the game with kids is entirely innocent, he really could have done with a slight bit of elaboration. Was it his nephew? His cousin? Does he babysit? Or did he just make it up to vindicate his point?

  6. Oh, man, guys, the AVGN movie trailer. Did you guys see that? I saw it on Kotaku. I hope it doesn't get pulled soon.

Yeah, The Nerd's going after E.T. on Atari. The fans were demanding it in the movie, and then he's going to try an unbury the E.T. Cartridges, but Area 51 is on his ass, the fans are getting cranky, And Wilhelm's daily life as an innocent fruit shop owner is once again bringing back memories of the days when he was an imperial stormtrooper and got shot that one time in the Death Star.

Go see the trailer, it may seem like ripping off of the Irate Lamer's E.T. plot at first, but............

LOOK, I DO NOT KNOW, OKAY?!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I wouldn't say Bores has "reviewer dibs" on this particular plot idea. That all remaining E.T. cartridges were buried somewhere in the desert is about the only think people now about the game - after "The game is so bad it killed the video game industry".

      Delete
    2. The "plot" you're saying he ripped off is actually an urban legend (most likely true) from 1982, and people have joked about digging up the landfill since rumors of it were first discussed.
It's like people thinking IG or AVGN were the first ones to wish they could shoot the Duck Hunt dog. Everyone tried to shoot the dog. It's a more common meme than the Konami code.

      Delete
    3. Shaolin Dave: Not to mention that James was reviewing Nintendo Accessories and thus discussed the Zapper games, thus one would expect to see the joke even if it came before Bores' video.

      Delete
    4. Sooooo, AVGN's going to unbury the ET cartridges, eh? That's an old one. Even SeanBaby wrote that you could just go dig the sand over there to get a free cartridge (and he wrote this at least as early as 2002).

BatDan said about IrateGamer's ET review that the IrateGamer could NOT unbury an ET cartridge because the cartridges were broken into thousands of pieces and covered with cement. Soooo, will BatDan give AVGN a pass on this one because... he's AVGN?

      Delete
    5. "Then again, there are people that claim the burial isn’t even real so what do I know?"

I think he'll just invoke that line. Also reading the article again, batdan didn't make it a major point that Irate gamer shouldn't have done that.

      Delete
  7. I wonder if he'd review Disney's "Wreck-It Ralph"? The review of the movie would probably be of the same length and depth as his other movie reviews. Or he could just whip up an Irate Gamer NEO review of the actual video game for Nintendo's non-Wii U formats.

    ReplyDelete

    1. I saw that last night. It was okay. There were a lot of video game references, but not as many as there should have been. The game they spend the most time in is suppose to be a reference to Super Mario Kart, but you can barely tell most the time.

      Delete
    2. ...one thing I found funny-ish about the movie was that arcades where still popular in it. I own a few arcade machines that I was keeping at a friends restaurant until just recently. Kids would come in and bang on buttons, grab both joysticks and hang on them, but seldom did they play. Usually it was the adults that played. The movie made it seem like arcade games were money-making machines, I was lucky if I got $25 a month out of all three of my machines combined.

      Delete
    3. @Shaolin Dave:

Either the arcade machine were central to the plot, or it's a typical case of poor video game research for movies.

      @NES Boy:

Considering he rarely does these movie reviews anymore, I'm not sure if he'd review it. He'd probably say it's too kiddy because of Nintendo references or something.

      Delete
    4. If Bores review the movie, it would be very embarrassing and show more viewers that he is not a gamer. Then again, this is coming from the man who thinks animated films are just for kids.

      Delete
    5. It wasn't okay. It was great! Highly recommended.

"There were a lot of video game references, but not as many as there should have been."
What does that even mean? Were the video game references obligatory? I prefer a movie that can stand on its own that one that uses cheap gimmicks like cameos to entertain people.

      Delete
    6. @ShitDoggyDog

It starts out with a lot of blatant references to actual games, like the "support group" scene from the trailer. After that it gets a little more subtle, like seeing Taizo Hori (AKA Dig Dug) walk past, and finally graffiti that says things like "No Camping" and "Sheng Long was here"...

...Then Ralph briefly goes to a fictional FPS before going to a fictional Mario Kart-style racer for the bulk of the movie, and that game looked more like Candy Land than anything else. With most of the movie taking place in an unrecognizable game, that isn't even recognizable as a game, the notion that the entire movie is about games drifts away.

      Delete
    7. Yeah, I read that was kind of an issue in a review. I guess it shouldn't be too surprising. After all, I'd imagine it'd be difficult to keep the video game theme up without having the entire movie be one big inside joke that alienates all non-gamers.

"one big inside joke that alienates all non-gamers"... exactly what I was hoping for.

I'll also settle for a tetris joke or a princess in another castle joke.

    10. Yeah, if there's a smidgen of a Wolfenstein reference in there I'm sold.

Actually, it might. There's a shit-ton of gamers and geeks out there, and most are known for re-watching movies they like multiple times in the theatre, not to mention buying the DVD/BR. Besides EVERYONE nowadays who's under 40 has played a videogame at least once.

      @ shitdoggy dog
The movie did recoup roughly 2/3's since they got tax rebates. There's alot of nerds out there but not a whole lot of nerds who've read a single small time Canadian made manga. I mean 70% of north americana people play video games. In japan anime shit sells like cocaine even at outrageous prices. Given that they've got sonic (20 million+ fans) its very well possible that they could recoup their production cost if they made the movie gamer focused. But then it would be nothing but sonic jokes.........

  8. Hi guys, off topic but I watched Gametrailers' Pop Fiction episode 28 where they tried to uncover the big hidden secret in Megaman 9. They thought something will happen at 15000 screens in Endless Attack mode but sadly, nothing happened. What do you guys think? Is there really a big secret or is it just Capcom trolling its fans, making them go on a snipe hunt? You can watch the episode on Youtube BTW.

    1. There's a secret in MM9? Well, if nobody has found it in 4 years, I presume it doesn't exist.

And Capcom trolling Mega Man fans? Who would've guessed XD ?!

      Delete
    2. Yeah, former Capcom employee Seth Killian told the fans at Capcom unity that was a hidden secret that nobody has found hidden within Megaman 9's Endless Attack mode. His last hint was that people has to go further and further deep into the mode until they finally found the secret. I think it's insane because it would take DAYS for people to reach up to 10,000 screens.

    3. @Sovereign64:

    1. Yup, but this is the internet. In this day and age called the information age, you can learn everything except good character from the internet. Though it should be noted that the second part of the e-begging was that stupid cheetah men shit.

    2. I think all the people who hates the AVGN movie trailer, criticizing James for using green screens and cheap special effects is a load of crap.

The AVGN movie is an independent low budget film so what do you guys expect? The ffects weren't going to be as good as the Avengers or Skyfall anyway. It's just a low budget independent film.

      Delete
    3. I kind of like the effects. Don't get me wrong, they're terrible, but I love the campy feel to them. I'm going out on a limb here, but I'd say at least some of that was deliberate.

      Delete
    4. I don't trust the opinions of anyone who judged the quality of the movie before James even started working on it. That's pretty much everyone who's been bashing it.

      Delete
    5. @Sovereign64:

I've watched too many Cinema Snob episodes to bash a movie for cheap special effects. As long as it's not shot-on-shitteo, I'm fine.

(And I think this giant monster-thing looked awesome, but maybe that's just me)

      Delete
    6. I find it very unfair that people bash IrateGamer so much on his "poor-quality" special effects. It is a web-original video show! Of course the special effects are gonna look cheap!
Not saying IG is a poor misunderstood angel, though (he's been a jackass more than needs to be).

As for AVGN's movie? Bah, considering the standards for this kind of production (low-budget, independant, etc), I find it very decent.

I don't find anything wrong on the "ebegging"; if you decide to give money to AVGN so he can make his movie the way he wants to, nothing wrong with that (I, for one, gave him my money and got a very nice autographed photo hung above my desk!). And I don't find anything wrong about the Cheetahmen 2 Kickstarter project. Yes, the final product would just being able to play a crappy game not on an emulator, but there are worst cases...

What disturbs me about the trailer is that it feels a bit too different from the "spirit" of the original series. But considering that James thought up of this storyline since the earlier days of the AVGN show, I guess I am going to wait and see.

... and hope he is going to review Sega-CD (he has a working one now) and Corpse Eater for good one day...

      Delete
    7. @Gaucelm
I believe people don't complain about the fact that Chris uses poor special effects but about the fact that Chris states that its because he has to add poor special effects that it takes him 2+ months on average to make a review. It's also the fact that he doesn't use the special effects to help support his show, they're pretty much THE SHOW.

I agree with pretty much everything else though. AVGN practically gave sega-CD the shaft. People shouldn't be complaining about money they decided to spend themselves and people obviously should know to do external research before making an investment on kickstarter. AVGN may be a fool for plastering his face on it but the people who actually donate are even bigger idiots considering that they're PAYING FOR FUCKING CHEETAHMEN!!!!

      Delete
    8. @Gaulcelm

Also, you mean Atari Jaguar CD. He already did a review of the Sega CD, which worked fine.

Of course, until he does, I think Spoony's review will suffice.

      Delete
    9. @Mr.Kill Ultra:

Yeah, it's really just the unecessary amount of special effects, the huge focus they seem to have in his production, and the large amount of time he wastes on them.

The only special effect of his that is downright crappy are his explosions, but that's only because he used the exact same explosion animation for several years.

      Delete
    10. Pretty much. Similarly, I mainly complain about him playing other characters on his show because he seems intent on making a point of doing so, so when I see 15 characters talking and acting like slightly different versions of the same moron, all I can think is how he could watch his shit after recording it and think "Man, I am SUCH a good actor!"

As Mr.Kill Ultra said, Chris has a big problem at maintaining a deadline, and often claims that the special effects are the reason he needs to take long when others like James as well as say Lewis Lovhaug (Linkara) churned out videos much faster and even lengthier than what Bores uploads.

      Delete
    12. Hell, Linkara's videos have gotten better effects now, and even when the effects weren't so great, he didn't let them overshadow his writing (which is the highlight of AT4W to me).

Yes, the Mechakara robotics during the first battle look kind of crummy now (especially when you compare it to the effects in To Boldly Flee) but I don't care. It's still a good watch.

    13. I really like Hellsing920, no matter whatever he says. He's articulate, intelligent, and he has taste in film. He may not like the AVGN movie, but that's just him and his opinion and taste in film. I have nothing against him, ever. I enjoy his Reaction and Review series most of all. He even introduced me to the CWCki, a wiki dedicated to that one guy who doesn't do much anymore.

Odd, considering that a complaint he had for Tekken 6 was the (apparent) lack of English speaking characters. To note T6 did have some English characters, but others spoke in foreign languages.

So couple with his criticism of games being "kid friendly" that's two moments of inconsistency.

As far as I'm concerned, his favoring Skylanders above other Neo reviews; and other videos for that matter, is gravy. I mean, the Wii U came out today. A new console, the start of the eighth generation of video games, the first core Nintendo console in years, the first Mario title at a system launch since Super Mario 64! Instead, Bores continues his Skylanders spiel and "Nintendo is kiddy" nonsense; one of my worst moments and my WORST moment respectively. By the way, I think Bores would probably say something along the lines of "if you like other video game movies, you'll like this" for Wreck-It Ralph, or say something that proves he wasn't paying all that much attention to the movie (I saw Wreck-It Ralph, great movie). Even with all my action figures and Pokémon-related videos (not to mention my stance as a Brony); I can't really wrap my head around Bores' Skylanders obsession. As for the retro reviews, I think there will be a couple more bits in the storyline of him badly playing old games and behaving like a Gary Stu, then it's back to stuff like the Monster Party review.

Just like that, I went to Target after having a meeting; and they said the Wii U sold out the first day. I'm about to check the sales figures to see how big it was, but feel free to post it if it pleases you.

2 IG Shorts (Although those are just throwaway videos that he considers actual content worth just as much as an episode)

Oh, and A LOT of Neo episodes (I think 9)

I doubt we will get much else from him, unless it is something really small. The guy is officially fading into obscurity.

Worst part about this, he is doing nothing to prevent it, e.g. produce frequent content to keep the remaining fans pleased. Yet, he has somehow resorted to producing spoof videos and Skylanders shit to stay in the limelight. It's kinda pathetic when you think about it. I wonder if we will ever hear of him again once his show crashes and burns?

  21. Some very interesting tidbits from my Facebook informant.

Fans have asked Bores to review various games. Two such requests have been Pokemon Black 2 & White 2 and Assassin's Creed III.
Chris' responses were essentially complaining about how Nintendo and Ubisoft don't give him "review copies" and they're difficult to work with.
I don't believe for a second he's in touch with these people. If he is, then what makes him think he's entitled to review copies? Or rather, free games? He's done nothing to show he's legitimate.

Also, he makes fun of James Rolfe for "e-begging", but here he is crying that he doesn't get free games? Good lord the hypocrisy just reeks.

I know people have scoffed and laughed when I decided to diagnose his psychological degree of impairment but he is seriously poster child for "Pervasive developmental disorder not otherwise specified" also known as PDD-NOS.

    3. So now he's blowing up the Ubisoft AND Nintendo HQ Oo ?

Either this is a very lazy excuse, or he's honestly expecting those big-name companies to sent him free games so that he may honor the world with his insightful analysis - and by analysis I mean "a generic review you could easily make yourself by just using stock footage from previous NEO episodes".

    6. Huh. I'm personally glad he won't touch Pokémon Black 2/White 2 and Assassin's Creed 3, because he's consistently proven he's lazy about playing games and clueless about franchises that have had considerable time in the limelight for years. This is getting ridiculous. He'll spend hundreds on Skylanders and old games, but he won't shell out for some of the more hyped games of the year. (sighs) If I may, he does seem to have some interest in Transformers. He's seen the Michael Bay films, grew up with G1, and he appeared to enjoy Fall of Cybertron despite not understanding that it's part of a new continuity cherry-picked from the best elements of previous adaptations of Transformers rather than a spinoff of G1. I still remember that comment on the Colorforms Irate the 80s of him wanting to do one on the G1 Transformers toys and cartoon but claimed it was "too expensive." This from the guy who spent who knows how much on an Odyssey and got called out by Ralph Baer, the guy who invented the thing for knowing jack squat about it.
Still, I have heard of situations where developers withhold games from critics; forcing them to go to the store and pay the $50 to review it. One case I remember is when Seanbaby, a humor writer for EGM and Cracked, was informed that Vivendi was not sending a copy of the Cat in the Hat game because they quote on quote "didn't want Seanbaby making fun of it." Seanbaby responded by buying the game himself and gleefully trashing it.
Sorry if my comment is so long, but I'll probably be offline for Thanksgiving so I can spend time with my family. See you around, Dan.

    7. Not to mention his purchasing of several copies of the Atari ET for the sake of digging up game carts that Atari buried.

Though, he'd probably use Pokemon B&W 2 as fuel for his "Nintendo is for kids only" anyway.

      Delete
    8. @StevenTheAnimeNerd:

Actually, the practice of not sending free review copies is similar to having movies not screened for critics. In both cases, they do it because they KNOW the game/movie is crap, but try to keep customers in the dark for as long as possible.

    9. I can only think of two reasons they'd refuse to send Bores copies for review...

    10. @Doresh
The only reason that doesn't apply here is the fact that these are good games and people are completely unlikely to buy games based on bore's recommendations. Perhaps that's why Chris Bores has been licking so much ass lately, hoping to score free games by tricking companies into thinking he's a free publicity source.

But it fails because of what Shaolin Dave states.

If he did a review on Pokemon or Assassins Creed I imagine he would make a fair bit of bank off of them. Also, despite laziness, is this why he reviews such obsolete games? Does he refuse to pay full price and as a result wait months to get it on discount?

Oh, and about the E-begging thing, it's really getting pathetic now. He really is gripping on to this opportunity to look like the better man. Whatever, I suppose being a hypocrite is better than being an "E-begger".

    13. Like any crazy sensationalist that's probably his goal. I mean just look at tabloids and the most sensationalist groups out there right now.

Fox news and other sensationalist pricks don't care about spreading the right message, they just want people to jump into hysterics and give them viewing time. Hell you know those whale whore guys the sea shepherds? They haven't done anything for 35 years and they've got more press then Greenpeace or any other major environmental group. Those bastards even take claim for other people's actions and lie cheat and misrepresent the facts.

Chris Bores is no different. He isn't really against e-begging or fraud. If anything he's pro-fraud given his plagiarism record and false credentials. People naturally assume that people who point out flaws are doing it to point out damaging behavior hence why people like to do the "your just blindly jealous" joke of an argument. For Chris, people naturally assume he's pointing out flaws because someone else wrote it down on a sheet of paper and his PPD-NOS dictated that he do the most immature thing possible.

    14. @Mr.Kill Ultra

Exactly. Bores is sinking like a stone at this point. He was never famous, rather, he was infamous. He got to where he is today (which isn't far) because of his plagiarism. He only became famous because AVGN fans were calling him out and only had a small ACTUAL fanbase. Now the majority don't care any more. He recognised this and made the spoof video. He isn't passionate about the subject matter, he's an immoral opportunist.

    15. @Doresh. Thank you. Probably the reason he got to do Ninja Gaiden III is because Tecmo knew the game was a disappointment for critics and fans and wanted a sap who they could exploit to give it a positive review. Did it work? Well, apart from Ninja Gaiden fans tearing into him, Tecmo reached their goal, and they sent him Dead or Alive 5.
@Antiyonder Exactly. Or, he could go the other way once he gets to the part where Ghetsis fires icicles at you, not to mention the dark storyline. I personally feel that Pokémon Black and White and Pokémon Black 2 and White 2 are the Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask of Pokémon in terms of gameplay and storytelling. Guess I'm not being offline after all, DLAbaoaqu made the first part of his thanksgiving special, with the Silver Surfer review. That way, I can watch it without giving Boring Man views.

    1. There are two kinds of criticism. Constructive criticism which aims at helping make the finished project better by pointing out what's done wrong and how it can be fixed and destructive criticism which just insults the work for what it is and doesn't provide any help at all. More often then not, destructive criticism is based on inaccurate evidence and this often explains why its destructive, the critic couldn't be arsed to look at the problem and has instead made up his own or faked one to look like he's doing his job.

While not having watched the videos at all, I can safely say that since this is silent ROB (whose anti-Irate gamer videos weren't so great either), the videos are probably destructive criticism at best and pathetic lying at worst.

    3. Yeah I'm pretty sure that Ladybuggin777 is definitely Bores herself. The use of group designation only cares about friends. Bore is delusional enough to think she truly has friends and if Ladybuggin really was real, why does she continue to only care about "friends", constantly change stories about family size and treat her son (I mean daughter) as an extension of herself or as a "friend"?

I'm starting to think that Chris Bore's might just be a really ugly woman. I mean Chris adheres to PDD-NOS in that he enjoys having unusual non-sense tastes, shows difficulty in insulting people and retaining background stories, demonstrates ridiculously repetitive arm movements in his reviews and constantly repeats lines and mistakes in his reviews. Delete
    2. I doubt it will get into any major film festivals (e.g. Sundance, Cannes, Toronto) and even if it did, it would go nowhere. No major (or minor) distributor would touch it. Sure, found footage is running rampant at the moment, but really, it's a dying gimmick and Bores is far too late to the party. Not to mention, Brave Encounters and other paranormal found footage films exist, rendering POTP unoriginal and nothing special. It wouldn't create any festival buzz and will most likely just get a moderately large audience on its first screening only for the other screenings to be ignored as festival goers would be interested in far more sophisticated and original indie films from real, talented film-makers.

Not to mention, Bores' inability to handle criticism would severely hinder him in the film world. I'm a film student myself, the one thing I've constantly been taught is that I will learn from my mistakes throughout my career until I have overcome all of them. However, throughout the five years Bores has been doing his internet show (a relatively small-time thing) he has failed to improve, or remotely acknowledge any criticism that has been thrown in his direction. If he cannot improve his show or acknowledge his critics, then what makes him think he will stand a chance in the film market?

Another thing, this is probably Bores' mindset:

1: Submit super, mega, awesome ghost documentary into film festival only for it to get accepted despite the other thousands of films that have been submitted.
2: Screen film only for it to get standing ovation and successful further screenings.
3: Distributor comes along offering to pick up film and give tons of money.
      4: SUCCESS!!!!1!1!!11!!

No, bores. Trust me, It's not that simple. While, I'm not an expert on the subject, many films tend to go nowhere. You have to create a film that really stands out (From the title, to the way you plan to market it in the festival) and gain the attention of the big shots. After all, it is more difficult to get people to watch your films than it is to actually make 'em. Your film doesn't stand out on any level. The premise is unoriginal and the title doesn't even grab my attention. Also, you have to watch out, as some small, incompetent distributors may come along, acquire the rights to your film, only to do nothing with it.

Sorry for this long, perhaps tedious post, but the fact that Bores is considering this is utterly ridiculous.

Not to mention, assuming that Ladybuggin' is actually his mother (the key word being "assuming") she, seems to have wrapped Chris in this comfort blanket where criticism and the negativities of life do not exist (going by how she has access to his account, which may explain why all negative comments are outright removed/censored/childishly replied to). As a result, Chris hasn't been able to improve over the past 5 years and, as stated in my comment from yesterday, probably thinks things will turn out in his favour. If Chris were to ever get the film into a festival, reality would hit him so fast his head would spin.

    5. Or his mother (assuming she exists as we are expected to know her) could just block all the criticism and tell him his film did well at the festival. Okay, I will come clean. Remember that Hellsing920 comment I made? No? Well I wouldn't blame since I wasn't so...blatant about it, so here goes. If this results in a flame war, do not ever say that I didn't warn you.

    Okay.

Hellsing920 and and Asareili had made a nearly two hour Google chat video, and they were just messing around and having fun with it. And, well, they are not very favorable of the AVGN movie trailer and started making fun of it and James Rolfe(not that it's really a big deal). Neither was RandomDCE. Now before I go on, I need to remind you that these three people are intelligent, entertaining, and are highly regarded in the Youtube community(I only truly like Random and Hellsing; I did watch only a couple of Asa's videos and barely see what he's up to, considering the controversy around that AVGN film). Keep in mind that I like the Nerd as well.

And to put it bluntly, BatDan, Hellsing mentioned your blog. I could say that it's a "shout-out", but to Hellsing, you guys would pick AVGN to, say, Friedberg and Seltzer, if you know what I mean.

Oh, and every time when Hellsing, Random, or Asa say "James Rolfe", "Angry Video Game Nerd", "AVGN", or just "The Nerd", they always, ALWAYS, play a "cha-ching" every single time.

This is getting out of hand, guys, and I am not blaming Hellsing, Random, and Asa for it. James and Mike may not have made their budget clear. Something's up, and I know it.

I remember my reason for why people liked the Nerd so much: respect. Bores didn't have it to give or receive. Rolfe did. He was a legit aspiring filmmaker who actually works his movie magic when he needs to. His Nerd videos were great (roughly before his Ninja Gaiden one, in my opinion)! His Monster Madness videos are entertaining! His OTHER VIDEOS can be entertaining! AND I WILL BE DAMNED IF I LOSE ALL RESPECT FOR JAMES ROLFE!

James Rolfe, if you are reading this, PLEEEEEEEEASE get your ass off the director's chair and clear this up before it gets worse!

    1. Not that I'm mad or anything, but what is just so suspect about the AVGN movie budget?

      Delete
    2. That is it: I do not know.

The Kickstarter made over 300,000 dollars. That is supposed to be the budget of the film. And my only feeling, because people are getting a bit touchy with James Rolfe now, is the James and Mike may not have given enough information regarding the film's budget. But that is not the problem, NOOOOOOOOO.

It certainly isn't a problem that anyone can mention James Rolfe*cha-ching*, and the AVGN*cha-ching* movie*cha-ching* and add a "cha-ching" to it to make Chris Borse*crickets chirping* look good in comparison. At least HE didn't jump on the Kickstarter bandwagon like so many people.

My real problem, and the reason why I made the post in the first place, is because this blog is getting involved now. I like this blog. I hated the Irate Lamer for his awful Super Mario Bros 2 video and followed this blog since I first discovered it years ago. And another person I like, Emer Prevost a.k.a. Hellsing920, called this blog a "shitty little blog". I am not kidding. Batdan is gonna be a "white knight" in Emer's eyes when the movie comes out.

Am I gonna white knight. No. I am not a white knight. I am trying to be as neutral as I can here, so that I can enjoy Prefost's and Rolfe's videos without being pulled into either side. I just couldn't resist the urge to tell everyone this since nobody wither knew or brought it up. It would make the conversion "complete" and "up-to-date".

I'm sorry, Batdan. I just couldn't bear being silent about this. I like your blog. I like James Rolfe. I like RandomDCE and Hellsing, and even Asa. I do not want to see you guys be enemies like this.

    3. To be honest, I see nothing suspect about it. He put up an IndieGoGo page for donations to fund the movie. He made ~400,000$ from it (I can't be bothered to find the exact number), and suddenly Archfiend and all these others are calling him an e-beggar. That's it. There's only a supposed controversy because all of these butthurt people on YouTube created a controversy.

    4. I don't think you have anything to worry about. We call those guys on their bullshit but its not like we're gonna get intimate with this whole stop being an idiot thing. In the end, the whole debacle will end when the AVGN movie gets released. Who's right and who's was wrong depends on whether or not AVGN's movie was awesome or not.

Till then I don't see any reason for Batdan to make articles about those guys. It hasn't happened yet, it won't happen now. The only reason they made fun of this blog in the first place was because of the fake batdan and its about damn time they realized that this blog does little to insult them and at most we have comments on news reports or general feelings on their "crusades". And if that counts as white knighting, then apparently its wrong for people to state what they think.

    5. I also believe that we've never been involved with what those three guys have been doing. The biggest involvement we had was the Irate gamer spoof and that's because Irate gamer "shared" (in the loosest form) their sentiment.

They need to stop acting like we honestly give a shit about this. They want us to become involved, that's why they keep mentioning us. They think we're just some no-name small-time trolls who'll fall hook-line and sinker into their controversy so they can get monies from the shitstorm that pops up. I'm tired of this, I really am. Just ignore them people. You might think that will make them right or that it allows them to make fun of us but in reality, it just makes them douche-bags for targeting people who they have no business targeting.

    6. By this point, I'd say Ass Loser and friends are about as credible as those jackhats who pester Obama about his birth certificate. I mean really, who the fuck would travel from the East to the West coast to Cali-fucking-fornia, which is probably one of the most expensive places in the U.S. to film a movie, pay for several filming locations, actors, and set pieces, rent out an old theater for a preview, and dedicate the better part of three or four years of his life to a goddamn Springtime for Hitler scheme?

    7. @lordlaharl
Springtime for Hitler implys that AVGN has something to gain if his movie fails. AVGN will get ass-pwned if his movie fails. AVGN be literally pwned off the internet if his movie fails. I'm talking 4-5 years of a shitstorm. He's risking a lot to make this movie. Especially considering that ad revenue would easily have made that amount of money if he just kept making videos instead. If the movie fails, he's not even gonna be able to do that!

    8. That's my point. I was saying that the haters seem to think that he's going to make a ton of money off of his so-called "scam", while I'm pointing out that he's already done so much that even without an exact budget report, it's obvious that keeping the donated money is not what he's trying to do.

    9. Bashing someone because of unprovable accusations? What could go wrong?!

Just trying to make sure I was interpreting right =)

      @the subject itself
Seriously? they're still going on about this? Cheetah-men kick-starter ended months ago (in august). The AVGN donation "scam" was months ago too. Why are we still acting like he got money that was he was not entitled to? Just because the donation goal was exceeded?

    11. @ Mr. Kill Ultra
Because the trailer came out. That's why. They have now seen what the film might be like, and A) They were not impressed, and B) they think his budget is smaller than it's supposed to be, therefore the *Cha-ching* sounds. Watch RandomDCE's video about it, and, well, no offense or disrespect to him, but you guys are going to hate, hate, HAAAAAATE him for it. Or you'll think he's stupid.

And there is a nagging matter I need to address: Someone thought James Rolfe*cha-ching* was being hypocritical for using CGI in his film*cha-ching*, when he claimed time and time again that he's not into CGI or something like that. The only CGI I have ever seem in the trailer is the title, and that's it. The giant robot is actually a guy in a costume. There's a tank in it. The little robots and the alien character are not CG either. How else could he have done a title without it not being impressive?

Hadn't heard about the Cheetahman thing*crickets chirping*, and I guess it failed, right*rimshot**lauging audience*? Yeah, sorry you'll have to excuse these Google Hangout sound effects.

    12. well if they think the trailer in $400k then they're fools who don't know what $400k can actually get.

The cheetah-men thing succeeded. It got 100k and sold cartidges + shirt + comic at $500 a piece. No one seems to be complaining about the end result though.

      Delete
    13. No no no, what I meant to say is that Hellsing thought that, by looking at the trailer, the movie budget must have been around 20,000, and joked that the rest of the money may have gone to the title. THE TITLE!

There's also the matter of how and where the movie will be presented once it comes out. Will it be online and for free? Is it gonna be on DVD for $20 apiece? Do the people who donated to the Kickstarter get a free copy of the DVD?

      Delete
    14. And just so you people on this blog know, I think the Archfiend sucks now, and I certainly don't care about that Silent Rob guy either. These guys I do not like.

Batdan, James Rolfe*cha-ching*, Hellsing, and RandomDCE, I like. Wanna know what else I do not like? Grouping people that I like WITH PEOPLE I DO NOT LIKE!!

You can do that all you want if you feel that way. That's your opinion. I will not. I certainly will not be silent when I see people I like being torn into two opposing groups, one of which have people that I do not like.

      Am I overreacting?

    15. Argh that's just stupid then. According to the fundraising site itself
      http://www.indiegogo.com/angry-video-game-nerd-the-movie

AVGN only made 325k not 400k

As for their concerns of " Is it gonna be on DVD for $20 apiece? Do the people who donated to the Kickstarter get a free copy of the DVD?"
well its not gonna be on a DVD. Because if it was then people who donated $200 would have had it listed on their perk descriptions. Every kickstarter has it so that if you pay like 4 times the price of the item that you'll get it for free when it comes out. If its not for free then why isn't there a single sale plan listed?

    16. @Angrysun
      "Am I overreacting?"
Probably. Whether or not people you like are getting trashed shouldn't be problem to you or anyone. But as human beings we seem to take such insults at a personal level when in all actuality it doesn't harm them or their liked person. Unless its like a really personal attack, no one should be worried.

what you and many other AVGN fans are feeling right now are no different from what the many fans of Britney Spears or any other controversial pop star are feeling. People want to belong and can and will delude themselves into thinking that a person is an extension of themselves. It's hard to see someone you really like get verbally abused by people who don't know anything but at the end of the day its the person who got insulted who should be taking action, not you.

If AVGN really cared or felt threatened by these idiots he could sue them right now and win guaranteed. These idiots are blatantly stating that AVGN is embezzling. That's several crimes already given that its libel, defamation, sabotage and much much more trumped up charges a good lawyer could get. AVGN only cares about his work and his fans and its good to see that he's got his priorities in order.

    17. Hey, at least I'm not Chris Crocker. That guy's a nut. No, I am not telling a joke about nuts, okay.

    18. The only Cha-Ching I really care about right now is the one in Gears of war 3. I'm actually surprised people still care about it. I mean was that money theirs? And even if it was, is it really necessary to make a big fuss over money they spent knowing the risks? Maybe if they were public shareholders then I can see the problem but to dedicate the good part of year to outright attacking AVGN...? That's not exactly wholesome...

  34. Re watched Chris's X-men video and at the end where he calls upon the power of inferno.. I thought oh shit is Chris going to integrate his horrible Dark Chapters book into this storyline? I wouldn't be surprised if he did.
