Now I've Torn Apart Your Die Hard Review. Ho Ho Ho.

Wow,  I didn’t think we’d get an actual Irate Gamer video this early in the year. Only four months since the last one too.
It also doesn’t help that he’s done almost nothing this year. That New Super Mario Bros. 2 video was so damn lazy.

So, what game is he going to look at this time? Die Hard. … Okay, let’s not jump to conclusions  Maybe he’ll talk about the Sega Saturn port of Die Hard Arcade, which is really just a dolled-up version of a Japanese game called Dynamite Deka. Or maybe it’s the PS1 “Die Hard Trilogy” games. Or maybe it’s Die Hard: Vendetta on Gamecube.
*reads video title* No… he makes it explicitly clear that it’s the NES game. Make your own assumptions.

I do have to give Bores some credit though, the timing is perfect. A new Die Hard movie (A Good Day to Die Hard) comes out next week, and it’s so weird to see Bores ever be this timely on something. You know, it kind of reminds me back when Live Free or Die Hard came out, and we saw a review from…… Ergh. Make your own assumptions.

*reads description* He gives a special thanks to “ricardo” (all lower-space) for a fan made IG intro. He actually accepted some fan made content and used it in a video? That’s shocking.

Let’s get through this. Yippie-ki-yay motherfucker!

0:00 - 0:17: Let’s see what “ricardo” did for the intro.
Blind Pass is back and… it’s exactly like his old intro. Right down to the video opening with TMNT Arcade. The type of intro that Bores could have put together had he spent some time compiling clips. I was expecting something animated, or something that uses effects, maybe a remix of the theme, or anything but a new version of his old intro. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but Karbia’s intro had more thought put into it.

0:18 - 0:34: The video opens with IG in a jacket, telling us about the new Die Hard movie coming out soon, leading him to look at the NES game.
He looks to R.O.B. for confirmation ,who decides to exit stage right. At least he bailed out before this could go to shit. Maybe he’ll go find himself a voice.

0:35 - 1:14: He begins the game and right off the bat complains how the game doesn’t tell you why you’re on the 32nd floor. He notes that unless you saw the “R-Rated movie” as a kid, then you wouldn’t know why. I don’t know, plenty of parents probably showed Die Hard to their young kids. Hell, when I was around 6 or 7 I saw  Terminator 2 and was playing Mortal Kombat all day.

He brings up how the enemies fire a ton of bullets.
“Why do I get the feeling this game is going to flip my shit later” You know, this is starting to feel like his old stuff. Here he said “flip my shit” and earlier he said “buddy” in an over-exaggerated manner. Plus, no signs of his storyline (outside of R.O.B. but that’s nothing). … This is going to be a trainwreck isn’t it?

1:15 - 1:44: He notes that you need to kill 40 crooks to win, and that when you’re down to 3 you can save the hostages.
He puts a number counter in the corner of his set starting at 39. He dies at 34 and it resets, causing him to drop an f-bomb. I’ve given up figuring out if he wants a family show or not.

1:45 - 2:14: He brings up that you can find radios to find out about the safecracking and how the game is on a time limit. He runs out of time and lets out a big “Nooooo”. Not bad, you’re getting kind of better.
But then the voiceover chimes in and tells IG “that hasn’t happened yet”. Okay, this whole “the narrator is a separate person” thing is really dumb. It’s like he wants to do one of those “bounce jokes off yourself” things but is  too lazy to film himself twice.

2:15 - 2:53: IG arrives at the elevator and tries going down to the 30th floor, but the game won’t let him for obvious reasons. He goes up to the 33rd floor and continues killing enemies. His corner counter goes down with… Final Fantasy IX (?) sound effects. How odd, especially since that’s the sound used in the menus, not countdowns.
He dies again and his counter goes from 29 to 40. He’s got one more of these left before Rule of Three kicks in. *looks at video time* Jeez, there’s still at least five minutes left.

2:54 - 3:33: He starts over again and we get more of the same, IG killing crooks. We then get a “boss fight” with Fritz and… he goes down easily. Hang on, why is the footage all zoomed in. Is he trying to hide his health bar?
No it goes down on the 34th floor. Huh…
He kills more and he’s down to 19. There’s really nothing going on here, he’s just describing what’s happening. He hasn’t mentioned anything about the controls, the graphics, the sound, comparisons to the movie. It’s more like a really condensed Let’s Play.

3:34 - 4:02: He prepares to go to the next floor when we get another “boss fight”, this time with Marco.
IG kills him but loses a lot of health. He goes to find some… “first aid juice”. His words not mine. Also, I’m pretty sure the healing items in this game are cans of soda, not juice.
However, in his search for health, he falls out the window and loses. His corner counter goes from 15 to 40. Rule of Three, anymore and you will mutilate the “joke”. It’s not really a joke, it’s just Bores reacting in comical ways to his imaginary counter resetting.

4:03 - 4:35: He goes over more of the game (like I said, it’s more like a condensed LP or walkthrough than a review), he notes a rocket that was left on the floor (oh hey, an actual observation) then gets to the roof where he has to radio the police.
IG then attempts a bunch of references to other movies/TV the actors have been in.
“We now have Carl Winslow helping out to save the hostages from Professor Snape before John McClane starts seeing dead people” The last part is accompanied by a picture of the zombies from Michael Jackson‘s Thriller. Ooooh so close. You seem to have forgotten that it wasn’t Bruce Willis that saw dead people, it was Haley Joel Osment. Bruce Willis was one of the ghosts. Also, they weren’t zombies, they were ghosts.
Also, if you wanted to consistent, you should have called Bruce Willis a different character. Like Butch Coolidge (Pulp Fiction), Korban Dallas (The Fifth Element), John Hartigan (Sin City), David Addison Jr. (Moonlighting) or hell, his character in The Sixth Sense, Dr. Malcolm Crowe.
You almost had a reference there, but you botched it. Go back to start.

4:36 - 5:02: IG brings up that sometimes, Sgt. Al Powell (he calls him Carl from Family Matters but I’m going with the movie) radios in to report on more enemies.
While he crawls through the air ducts, he gets another radio call. I get the feeling this will lead to another bad Rule of Three joke.
He finds some enemies and says it’s time to “Die Hard”. Leave the cheesy one-liners to the pros.

5:03 - 5:42: He finds the express elevator and as he goes down, Powell radios him again. I feel like he edited that in for his joke. He makes it to the 4th floor and remembers back to a map he got for the 5th floor and starts getting angry that there’s actually no 5th floor. It could have easily been a typo. 4 and 5 are next to each other.
“This is like taking a shit in your Lucky Charms and calling it a marshmallow!” A food joke? This really does feel like one of his old reviews. Also, I thought Lucky Charms were already ruined?

He complains about the typo some more and his corner counter goes down a bit, and then goes down to 14. So the counter is sentient now?

5:43 - 6:17: He moves on and fires the rocket launcher, which somehow hits him as well. Again, I’m surprised he hates Michael Bay.
He notes this adds more time to the safe-cracking and he continues killing more enemies. He gets another radio message from Powell (Rule of Three) and he edits in John throwing the radio really far. These jokes are about as lame as Die Hard’s TV edits.

6:18 - 6:34: He brings up the bomb’s detonators, then it cuts to him and he announces he’s getting a text. Wait, his text alert is the Duck Hunt music? That seems overly long, I would save that for a phone call. The text is from Sgt. Powell telling him about bad guys. The joke is now mutilated, congratulations you unoriginal idiot. Also, the text says it’s from “Carl Winslow”. Look, I know he played both characters but could you at least bother to get his name right when doing “jokes” like this?
Then he unpauses the game with Mario’s pause sound. ENOUGH OF THAT! Not every game has Mario’s pause sound. You’re really reminding me of TV shows that use Atari noises over modern games. You know, shows written by people that clearly never played a video game. For someone trying to look like a big gamer, being on that level is really sad.

6:34 - 6:54: He proceeds to move on when Hans tells his lead henchmen Karl to get the detonators. He also pronounces “cavalry” incorrectly.
Karl arrives but then IG gets another text from Sgt. Powell saying he’ll be there in a second.
“Not you Carl, the other Karl” Your attempt at this joke only infuriates me. You only needed to bring up that he was Carl Winslow ONCE. But nooo you keep hammering it in and hammering it in. Why not do an Urkel joke while we’re at it? Oh right because….. *stays silent*

6:55 - 7:21: He kills Karl and manages to kill all but 3 crooks. He makes it to an elevator  to get to floor 30 but accidentally drops a C4 explosive and kills himself. You could’ve gotten out of the way you know, unless the controls locked up for some reason. See, this is why you need to explain design, mechanics, control. Not give a half-assed walkthrough and complain the game is hard and that Sgt. Powell calls you a lot.
His corner counter resets and he has an over-the-top reaction. Yet another joke mutilated, I swear it’s like he only had two jokes for this entire video and kept using them again and again.

The review ends with Bores making it to the 30th floor (probably with some Game Genie) and killing Hans, with another Sgt. Powell interrupting him joke. Yeah I’m certain that was edited in, especially when the screen says “35th floor” and the only enemy left is Hans. God damn it Bores.
He beats the game and gets indignant that Sgt. Powell “steals the spotlight”. Well, he did shoot Karl, which was part of his character arc, he couldn’t draw a gun on anyone after accidentally shooting a 13 year old kid. Did you even watch the movie? Considering you didn’t even bring up Hans Gruber, or that one of the hostages is John’s estranged wife Holly. Then again he uses a clip in the next scene, maybe he didn’t pay attention to the movie?

IG then takes the game and throws it so hard he… blows up Nakatomi Plaza. … You know, after the Ubisoft video, you shouldn’t be allowed to make anymore “jokes” about blowing up buildings.
Also, he somehow threw it from Sandusky, Ohio to Los Angeles, California. I don’t give a shit, the video is over.
Except for one more use of the “text from Sgt. Powell” joke, but it’s wacky because IG is in the bathroom. Har har fuck this was awful.

This wasn’t a review, this was just a condensed walkthrough. He said NOTHING about the game outside of “it’s hard”. How were the controls? How were the graphics? No mention of how the game is surprisingly close to the movie plot-wise? Minus the whole “40 crooks” thing. You could have mentioned that? No mention of how walking on glass slows you down? This was terrible.

A positive though? No storyline bullshit. On the other hand, this means it will take even longer for his stupid storyline to end. Whatever happens, we suffer either way.

    1. Oh also nice review it seemed to cover all of the flaws in the video in a nice manner.

    1. That is a good point. Die Hard, Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, RoboCop, Rambo, Hudson Hawk, Alien 3, Predator, and some others I'm probably missing.

Still, kind of weird for Bores to bring this up now despite having done reviews of Predator and RoboCop.

It doesn't seem like he's even trying anymore.

    1. He could have at least mentioned this wasn't a storyline review or something.

I get the feeling Bores may have written himself into a corner and just gave up on it. Or it could come back. Who knows with him?
Also, where the hell is the Wise Sage?

      Delete
    2. Written in a corner? Come on, he only made his character unbeatable by giving him God Mode Sue pow... oh.

And I think Wise Sage might be the next to out himself as a Timelord.

    3. I don't trust Chris to realize he's written himself into a corner. He seems like the kind of guy to think one ending's as good as another- the point is to have a story arc for the sake of having one. I still think the most likely resolution is a big suspenseful build-up followed by a dumb anticlimactic joke that he thinks is in the style of Family Guy. And then I imagine he'll do a "The-End-Or-Is-It?" (like he did with the pixel demon) so as to excuse any loose ends.

  4. Just watched the video with BatDan's post, I agree that it seems like a flashback from 2007; both figuratively and literally.
The fake sounds on video games is really jarring when juxtaposed with modern graphics. So much so that it became a trope.

    ReplyDelete
  5. I am surprised. Despite the video being titled "Episode 7", there is no reference to the story arc. Not to mention, it does seem a lot like we are back in 2007-2008.
I will admit, this video was not that bad in my opinion.

!!!!!!?????? I've beaten Die Hard on the NES. The last 5 enemies are on the 30th floor. You have to use the elevator to get to them (or alternatively use the hose on the roof). If he was fighting the last few guys, then he wouldn't need to use the elevator. Dropping the C-4 to kill yourself is really damn hard to do. I never used the C-4 because it takes a very complicated button press to make it deploy. It's also optional to get too. I believe its very clear Irate Gamer cheated since he got the best ending in the game where you are to get the detonators AND NOT USE THEM!

  7. "I've just lost 4 health bars trying to kill this guy"

Isn't the whole thing called a life bar?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Those terms are pretty much synonymous. It's just that "health" is used more often.

      Delete
    2. What I mean is: the whole thing is called a health/life bar. So how can he lose 4 health bars when you only have one? He lost 4 parts of his life bar, or 4 blocks if you will, but not 4 whole health bars!

      Delete
    3. yeah he should have said he lost 4 health blocks, not four health bars. Like anyone who's not really a gamer, he gets his terminology wrong. Still though, this review was an improvement over the those that came before it. If he keeps this up, the reviews will be as timeless as the first five he made.

      Delete
    4. Well at least he didn't call them "hearts"

  8. It's nice that he cut the this weird fanfic storyline, but I fear he only did this to get the video out in time.
Still, those are some decent priorities.

The choice to review this overexposed Die Hard game is a bit iffy though, since it will only fuel this neverending discussion that seems to dominate arguments surrounding him.

Other than that, I give this classic review style a nostalgic overload.
    Read on, readers!

  9. I won't lie, this was probably his best review, sure the jokes were bad but heck at least I learned about the game and in that regard it's better than AVGN's review; In the sense that Chris showed more of the game. If he improved his timing and pronunciations I would have said he did a excellent job (lack of control or mechanics observations aside).

More of this Chris, I am genuinely impressed.

    ReplyDelete

    1. How did you learn more about it from Bores than AVGN? AVGN actually discussed the gameplay, giving massive amounts of description to the foot meter (something Bores never mentioned), the limited visibility that often results in cheap deaths, the difficulty of using grenades, the redundancy of the windows that kill you, and other elements. All Bores did was play the game and yell at it. That isn't 'teaching' you anything, you could have watched a speedrun with no commentary and received the exact same information minus the dreadful jokes. That's not what a review is supposed to be.

    2. I have to side with Notorious here. While Die Hard is hardly my favorite Nerd review, I really have to question how well fattoler remembers it.

      Delete
    3. My only guess is that AVGN rage quit while IG actually beat the game.

      Delete
    4. I just realized something: IG's video was more of a LP and less of an actual review because he knows most people watching his videos have seen AVGN's video on it. He's becoming meta Oo

      Delete
    5. Yeah, I think it's because it was like a LP, and having never played Die Hard I got see how the game went. To be fair I haven't seen AVGN's review in a while, but I remember laughing my ass off at the Steve Urkle joke.

I think the point still stands though, this is Chris' best work I've seen.

  14. This video did feel like stepping back in time. It felt more like IG's review of Monster Party than it did one of the storyline videos. I'm not ruling out the possibility that Bores gave up on his storyline, but I'm still expecting him to do something with that giant HAL-bot, and I think I know what. Still, I guess my comparison of his storyline to Monster A Go-Go was surprisingly apt if we don't get any resolution of it. Personally, he's already made himself up so much as a Gary Stu that I just started trying to count how many research failures, effects, and clichés I could find. Anyway, I'm looking forward to A Good Day to Die Hard; it's going to be the first movie of 2013 I'm seeing (if I don't count 2012 holdover Skyfall). See you around, Dan.

  15. Yeah, pretty sure he game-genied getting to the 30th floor. It was established you needed to get it down to 3 criminals to get to the 30th floor, but the meter was at 33, I think (I would need to check again).

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. If you're referring to the meter in the top left corner in the game, that's the floor number not the enemies needed to kill. To see that you need to pause.

One of my informants told me that it looked like he was using save states.

      Delete
    2. I have absolutely nothing against reviewers using cheats or save states for a video game they're doing. I think it's okay as long as the reviewer admits as much and I think Bores did so at least once.

      Delete
    3. It still bugs me when he pretends to be playing on a console when he's using an emulator. Assuming he's using save states.

      Delete
    4. @Patrick He did when the game genie was character introduced into the episode. I believe that in aladin and Contra(?).

      @Lewis
you technically don't have to kill the last few enemies to get the final level of the game. You can let the timer run all the way down to the last lock or so at which the point you can go to the final floor and kill everyone you didn't kill. Needless to say, its suicide!

      Delete
    5. I've watched a couple speed runs of the game (apparently it's pretty popular in the speed run community). After you deplete your foot gauge, you run up and down the stairs to let the timer run out. Once it does, you can go to Floor 30 and kill everyone as they all swarm in. Of course, this is insanely suicidal.

But yeah, if the timer runs out, you can go to Floor 30 and everyone you didn't kill will come on down and try to kill you there.

      Delete
    6. Oh and don't let the timer run completely out. when the Timer first runs out, you get like another 60 minutes (traveling between floors takes like 5 minutes) to get to floor 30 and beat the game. After that the villains get away with the cash and its game over.

  21. What annoys me is that he keeps calling the police chief Carl Winslow instead of Sgt. Powell. I know the actor plays both characters but if he's reviewing Die Hard, then he should call him Sgt. Powell, NOT Carl Winslow. It shows that Bores refers him as Carl because he never saw the actual movie and going by AVGN's review.

  22. I tried watching Asalieri.

I know a lot of you are not going to react positively, but whenever Asalieri is bashing on a bad or low-quality reviewer that tries to cash in on either AVGN or IG, his videos become somewhat watchable and it's pretty interesting to see his rebuttals to those many bad jokes/punchlines the other reviewers create.

The only downside he has (at least in my perspective) is he'll go after even the most well-loved and respected reviewers on Youtube and Blip (like he did with Linkara's Street Fighter episode despite Linkara not being a follower of said series). As shown on a poll (viewable in Reviewing A Reviewer 28), fans considered Asalieri go after the Nostalgia Critic for an episode (knowing very well he'd do the Bart's Nightmare episode).

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Asalieri can get meta as hell in a few of his videos. The overall theme I get from his videos is, it's not just the reviewer you should do research on, it's on how he is seen by his fans. I think he is against "fanboy politics" in general, although it can't be helped that he sometimes takes sides. It explains why he tries to avoid focusing on one subject for too long. Even though it sometimes falls flat.

His Angry Joe video for example, it look like he was trying too hard to find anything wrong with his character. The only truly bad thing he could find was Joe's crude manners at the VGAs. Then he made a parody character of Joe (one of his many parody reviewer characters).

He and batdanmn actually clashed in that video, it was probably the first time they spoke to each other. As usual batdanmn had one point he wanted to make (the parody was racist) and hammered it all the way through with every reply of Asalieri's.

But now fandom is a weird thing on the internet, it's like reading a history book and seeing factions and alliances shift and change sides. (or like wrestling, if that's your thing). Again, fanboy politics. I think it's dumb.

      Delete
    2. What gets me is that Asalieri has the same complaints people make about Linkara that I do not understand. They say all he does is read the comics and make jokes about them. Yet he does criticize what is wrong with them while being humorous. U know, like the Nostalgia Critic, AVGN, Spoony, Jew Wario, and Angry Joe. Yet somehow this is always brought up about Linkara.
Also, great review, Batdan. Been reading your blog for a while. Ur really funny, while being informative. Keep up the great work!!!

A game with a mute protagonist who we could project our thoughts onto, and who didn't need to speak or even show his face to convey emotion? A game where you felt trapped and alone, in dark corridors full of enemies waiting to eviscerate you? I guess what I'm trying to say is that the game doesn't seem like it really embraces horror, and that puts me off a bit.

    1. There's a few things about comics that keep many readers from taking them seriously. Characters die only to come back, either as a plot point or in a reboot. Stories are open-ended to last as long as there's interest and the narrative suffers, too many stories have a beginning, middle that overstays it's welcome, and no real ending.

I think when a publisher decides to make a new series they should have it planed out from the get-go. Most animes I've watched have had 26 episodes. Lately a few have gone further. Comics would do good to have something similar, maybe 24 or 36 issues (1 a month for 2 or 3 years) and don't even start on the first until you know how the last issue will end. Don't bring characters back to life (unless it's crucial to the story, like Eric Draven in "The Crow") or else no death will be taken seriously. Keep crossovers, sequels, remakes and spin-offs to a minimum.

Thats my idea anyway. I try to apply it to anything creative I work on.

Also, he went to these same kids as "experts" on Skylanders on if Swap Force will be awesome. Of course they're going to say it looks awesome, they're kids, kids are stupid.

No surprise there. Whenever BatDan does something trivial that she can exploit, logic becomes an afterthought and she goes crazy. Also, why does she think everyone on this blog is a child? 10. Of course kids are going to say Swap Force look cool because children would easily fall in love with things that look cool and awesome without knowing it's actual quality. They are not as intelligent as teenagers and adults yet so their views aren't widened yet.

When I was a child, I enjoyed watching Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation after just watching two episodes. XD But now as an adult, after looking back at the show again and learning why Ninja Turtles fans hated the show, my views have become widened and I now hate it. XD

Just something more dignified than a mommy standing up for her 30-year-old son. Maybe he thinks people will be intimidated by a 50-year-old woman who uses memes out of context.

And yeah, let's face it, Buggin' reads the blog. She claims that "IG fans fill her in" (My bullshit radar is going ape shit after reading that) which is obviously not true considering she responds so quickly.

    1. Some people just have issues. Really, that's the best answer I can give you.

    2. I'm pretty sure he can be reported for cyberbullying now. Even if batdan doesn't feel particularly threatened by him; he should definitely report him because its not just harassment now, its a continued vendetta against him that must be stopped before Batdanmn undergoes reconstructive surgery to look just like the person he wants to be.

I know most people don't take cyberpolice and cyberbullying seriously (I often get the lol kid look at computer screen and killed himself joke), but this is quite serious and Batdanmn needs help. The sad part is I'm pretty sure that his account has probably been flagged for targeting a specific individual and such a violation is even noted under community guidelines.

"There is zero tolerance for predatory behavior, stalking, threats, harassment, invading privacy, or the revealing of other members' personal information. Anyone caught doing these things may be permanently banned from YouTube."

Youtube admins are perfectly fine with "Japs should go to hell for killing whales and that tsunami was for pearl harbour" so I guess they'll be okay when Batdanmn kills himself over some grudge he can't get over. Hey maybe Batdan should copyright himself, then maybe the youtube admins will actually do something about it.

    3. this goes out to both the Blog and batdanmn.

to batdanmn: if you're going to reply and start a argument or some sort of flame/troll war, By default I'm going to forfeit the match and let you win.

to everyone who comments on batdanmn's page: Why argue with a idiot when he/she will bring you down to his/her level and beat you with his/her experience. its a lose lose situation.

I think the best thing to do in this situation is let batdanmn keep replying to us, but never reply back to him on his/her channel. that way he/she doesn't have the satisfaction of making you guys "butthurt"

    7. Well unless he is trying to impersonate the American foreign service officer (which is detestably worse), its clear that Batdanmn has some sort of vendetta against batdan. I have no idea why and its clear he needs help.

    8. It's very simple actually. batdanmn is an IG supporter. that's the only reason he's going after this blog.

  51. Okay, normally I don't like to give views to idiots like mariotehplumber, but in his latest video, he reaches a brand new level of hilariously butthurt.

    1. What level of butthurt would that be? I really don't want to give views to idiots like that, so if anyone would so kindly describe the video linked above I'd be appriciative. :3

    2. I always find refusing to view videos because it gives people views to be a rather petty position to take.

Anyway, he displayed homophobia, proclaimed himself a better gamer than the Game Grumps [great show, check them out], said it wasn't fair that they get paid for their show, yelled the whole time, used weird sound effects instead of saying those reviewers' names, and other things.

    3. I don't think it's petty at all. Like you said, he's basically a huge jerk. Why would I want to do something that benefits him (i.e., watching his video and give him a view)? It's the same reason I don't watch IG anymore, I don't want to support someone I know doesn't deserve it.

    4. This must be his "revenge".

For those who don't know: After mariotehplumber's old account got closed down, he created a new account called "MTPmoranguides" where he started to show up on camera.
To get more views (I presume), he started spamming the Game Grumps comment sections with the same two rants (which basically amount to "Game Grumps sucks! I can do everything better! Watch my videos!" and "Barry sucks! I'm better!") over and over again.

The end result was that his new account was taken down roughly 5 days after its creation. Now he made another new account with this little rant.

    6. I'm sorry, but I this is the funniest video I've seen in a long time. Again, I'm sorry, but I can't take it seriously at all, it just comes off as a joke to me.

    7. Well, at least this guy doesn't get paid for views. And that makes him really mad.

    8. @KUKEDUKE

If he didn't act like this much of a jackass in all his other videos, I'd probably write it off as a joke as well.

  52. Man, I'm kinda bummed right now. Visionary game creator Kenji Eno, mastermind behind such underground classics as the D series and Enemy Zero, passed away at age 49 of heart failure yesterday.

Man, he was too young. He was one of the most creative individuals I've ever known of in any context, video games or no, and the world is less for losing him. Anyone here ever play any of his games? If you haven't, you really should.

    They're experiences.

    1. I've been meaning to check out the D series for a while. Ever since HVGN did his review of them.

    2. Kenji died at 42. It's even worse considering that he probably had even cooler ideas to implement.

    3. Never heard of the guy before now. Didn't hear of his games, either. I like adventure games, but I'm not up to experiencing a game in real time, nor am I interested in survival horror. But it's always sad when a game developer dies so young.

      Delete
    4. So now he's basically a more obscure video game version of Satoshi Kon? Why is it always guys like them that have to die so young...?

Oh, and eurogamer had D in their list of the worst games of all time. I hope they're happy now <_<
