E3 Coverage Has Already Begun

Well here's a surprise. I wake up and find out that Bores is actually releasing E3 coverage in a timely fashion.

Like last year, I'll be doing weekly articles posted on Friday. This will cover both the videos and his site (he has stuff posted there that isn't on YouTube).
I'll just say that from what I've watched and read... it's going to hurt. A lot.

UPDATE: Change of plans. Seeing how Bores decided not to post anything on Thursday or Friday, the first E3 post will be posted next week. Makes me wonder what was up with Wednesday.

  1. Maybe Bores has finally learned people don't care about E3 coverage that comes two or three weeks after it ended.

  2. After watching his video looking at Kirby and the Rainbow Curse for Wii U, I'm surprised Bores didn't hate the game because it was different from traditional Kirby gameplay (given how he hated Epic Yarn years ago for being different).
It's apparent that he's never played Kirby Canvas Curse for the Nintendo DS, otherwise he would have referenced it given how Rainbow Curse features similar gameplay and control functions.
Personally, I'm looking forward to it (because I'm a sucker for Kirby games).

    1. Canvas Curse was also a great game and this sequel (which I never thought was going to happen truthfully) look amazing with that claymation style they are going for.

  3. Nintendo's coverage yesterday was fantastic. I pretty much spent my entire day yesterday following the Direct, Treehouse Live and the Smash Bros. Invitational while chatting with friends at a Nintendo enthusiast site. Had a ton of fun with it.

  4. I find it really odd that Chris is such a static character. I mean he really couldn't avoid making the same mistake this year? He has like nothing else to do right now so why the hell didn't he make the videos available early?

    ReplyDelete
  5. I'm already seeing the description for Chris' look at the new Kirby game...oh no.

Guess I'm sticking with VGA and Screwattack for E3 again like I do every year.

    1. Alright, I looked at all of them, and they're all pretty dull. They're all just random clips with little interview stuff, no commentary, and barely anything said about the game. Blegh.

  6. I'm guessing that he won't be in front of GotGame's cameras this year. Not surprising, but a bit of a downer for this blog's purposes.

  7. Meh, personally I'm just imagining what his reaction to Nintendo's Amiibo announcement is. He already seems to love Skylanders (and videos of Skylanders), and now Nintendo's basically given him a cross game, Nintendo equivalent to Skylanders.

Have fun with the hordes of Amiibo and Skylanders videos on his channel!

    1. Well, when Disney Infinity came out, I think he did one video on it and hasn't gone back.

The question looms: Can he even afford to start up a whole new franchise-collecting hobby?

      Delete
    2. Well, Amiibo has characters I actually care about, as does Infinity. This pretty much nullifies his "Nintendo is kiddy" statement; depending on what he thinks.

    3. I must admit the whole amiibo thing fascinates me. The fact that with Smash Bros. that they grow and evolve into something tailor made for you seems like an interesting concept. I also find it hilarious that the twitch chat exploded in that part of the stream by saying that it makes it pay to win, without even knowing much about it to boot. I am also very interested how it would work with other games. Shame I can only live vicariously through other people on it since I don't have a Wii U, but that may change in the foreseeable future at least.

      Delete
    4. Exactly. I have been given yet another reason for a Wii U; and it also helps that it reminds me of the already existing trophies in Smash Bros. As in, how they change to all my favorite Nintendo characters beating each other up in a Looney Tunes-like free-for-all.

      Delete
    5. I don't collect toys so the whole Amiibo thing isn't interesting for me. Zelda U does look awesome, though.

      Delete
    6. Definitely. Also, apparently he couldn't handle coverage as it happens like most other media outlets, and it's back to being behind the curve as always.

  8. There's a switch. Still, I looked up my coverage on IGN, ScrewAttack, and Gamespot; and I'm watching Nintendo's stream now. My anticipated games are as follows; in no particular order: Sunset Overdrive, Kingdom Hearts III, Star Wars Battlefront, Destiny, Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, Sonic Boom; and Super Smash Bros. Hopefully I can find a Best Buy that's hosting an event here in Salem. As for Amiibo: this gives me hope for the gameplay potential of the video game/trading figure game. Looking forward to seeing how spectacularly Boring Man can fail at trying to stay atop releases people actually give a damn about amid a glut of videos about Trap Team. See you later, Dan.

  9. Nintendo pretty much kicked ass at E3. Splatoon, Mario Maker, Hyrule Warriors, Legend of Zelda, More Smash Bros. Characters announced, etc. Christmas came early for Nintendo fans. (like myself)

    1. Doesn't Splatoon just look fantastic? Love that art style and gameplay.

  10. Never been to E3. Is Capcom coming out with a new Megaman game? I think it's more likely that you could turn shit into gold.

    1. Of course not.
Hell, Capcom didn't announce anything at all.
Scratch that, they announced DLC for Dead Rising 3. That's it.

      Delete
    2. besides the chances of capcom ever releasing a new megaman and treating that ip with respect are about the same as microsoft announcing a new conker/banjo

      Delete
    3. I don't think they've annouced another Megaman game. But they did annouced Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate AND Professor Layton VS Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney (About bloody time if you asked me).

As for the games I'm enticipated, there's Super Smash Bros (I'm getting both the 3ds and the WiiU version), Bayonetta 2, the fore-mentioned PL VS PWAA, Farcry 4, No man's sky, The Order 1866, Bloodborne, Splatoon, Yoshi's Woolly world, Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, Kingdom Hearts 3 and hd 2.5 remix, Destiny and Shantae and the Pirate's curse.

      Delete
    4. Why they just stop being jerks and just do the thing that many people beg already, and sell the Megaman IP to Nintendo?

      Delete
    5. Wasn't capcom going bankrupt or something? Or was that just speculation?

  11. So, the "Pac is Back" in Smash Bros.(ugh that phrase) Anyway, what do you think? And not just Pac-Man.

    ReplyDelete

    1. I was adamantly against Pac-Man in Smash because I thought for sure they would use his new model. Being a throwback to classic arcade Pac-Man and games is genius. I'm glad he's in now.

      Delete
    2. Nice wild card pick. He's going in my backups for sure. I have no formal opinion on Ghostly Adventures, so I'm glad the classic setup is what they're going with (most likely, Pac-Man Championship Edition is what I'd go for in terms of games).

  12. Will Bores really follow a reasonably steady first day of E3 by posting nothing... nothing at all... the second day?

    ReplyDelete
  13. I wanted to see more of the hot chick in the Kirby video.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Nothing. Absolutely no news for two entire days. Why even go to E3? If it was anyone but the notoriously erratic Bores, I'd worry he was dead.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Okay, addendum to that: He actually posted three more videos or his YouTube account in the waning minutes of the 13th (East Coast). He did not plug them on his site, however.

Apropos of an earlier criticism I made, he is also prefacing each video with direct commentary to the camera. It's still the same hopelessly uninformative dross we are used to from him.

      Delete
  15. I finished watching Gametrailers' interview with Activision about the upcoming Skylanders: Trap Team.

And wow, that one video was so intriguing than ANY Skylanders-related interview Bores has pull off in the past. Mainly because while most reporters professionally ask the video game designers what's really put in the game and how things function, Bores instead interviews the designers as a rabid fanboy.

    ReplyDelete
  16. New video: Mario Maker. YouTube only, no acknowledgement on his site. Is he careless or beginning to give up on the news website format?

    ReplyDelete
  17. And now he's back home, with a Skylanders video.

That makes seven E3 videos, three of them posted on an actual calendar date of the expo.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I'm still subscribed to the Youtube account. So much Skylanders in quick succession ..;. gag.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Oh look. More Skylanders spam. Oh happy day. /sarcasm

  20. So. Much. Skylanders. Jesus Christ why did he have to develop an obsession for such a boring franchise.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It's not clear he HAS developed an obsession. His videos on them just got a lot of hits a year ago, so that's what he spins his wheels talking about today. As for "boring," all of video game history becomes boring in his hands.

  21. How much longer will it be until Bores acknowledges the new Super Smash Bros. title for both Wii U & 3DS? You would think he would AT LEAST MENTION IT given how in his E3 videos, you can hear the Super Smash Bros. trailer theme playing in the background.
He mentioned the game last year, why not this year? Oh, that's right. Mega Man was announced last year as a playable character; that was the sole reason to talk about it. For Mega Man and nothing else.
    Screw you, Bores.

  22. You know there's something that's been bothering for a while so I'll just flat out say. Dan you can sometimes be as bad as Chris. Why you may ask well there's this little hypocrisy, a couple months ago(I think I'm far too lazy check) where he said Chris should give his fans what they want like HOVG, to that I say "hey Dan when's the next Redux Recap it's been what a year and a half since the last one". And don't give any bullshit like you have no desire or some other crap, based on what you said about Chris you have to because we want them, well some do I can't speak for everyone.
There's also been times where it seems you judge a game without actually playing it something you get on Chris' case about, that or you're one of those people that doesn't know what average means. I also notice a couple of minor research fails again something you get on Chris' case about, though at least you own up to most of them. Then again some could just be a bad attempt at a joke.

I say this not because I hate you or anything I just think it's wrong to get pissed off at somebody when you do a couple of the same things. I mean look at Chris I fucking the guy now not because of his videos or anything but because of what he said about suicide as someone who suffers from depression and had suicidal thoughts, as well as had a family member comment suicide I find his statement very offensive and if I was ever given the chance I would punch him so hard. Sorry for getting heavy there that's something else that's been on mind for a while.

    1. Or in the recent I Rate the 80's McDonalds post. Batdan bags on chris for calling the fry kids by their original name, sarcastically saying Bores is trying to be hip/"old school." Yet I guarantee if Bores did use the Fry Kids name, and BatDan was aware of their 70's name he'd rag on Bores for not doing his research. The one time Bores kinda does, he still gets shit for it.

This blog is funny and all, but some of the comments are so hypocritical and glossed over.

    2. @Jrizzle
"I fucking the guy" I could take this the wrong way but I believe there's the word hate somewhere in that statement.

Yeah I really wish Batdan would do another redux recap but my guess is he's either too lazy or lacks the drive to do it. These articles are roughly a 1000 words or more which means it takes at least an hour or more to make them.

In addition Chris just keeps making the same mistakes over and over and over again. It's hard to stay motivated when you're writing the same criticism again and again. That said it would be nice if batdan showed some transparency and just made an official statement on the matter. Is he going to make a new redux? What's preventing him from doing so? Is it time? Is it a lack of drive? What about that thing 6f29170c-b757-11e3-ac42-000bcdca4d7a is going on about? In what event would Chris Bores need to address the fry kids to avoid being criticized? A little statement goes a long way.

      Delete
    3. Oh wow I can't believe I made that mistake now I'm worried about people taking it the wrong way. Anywho I get what you're saying and it would be nice if Dan did say if he was going to do anymore Recap Redux or not instead of leaving people in the dark, which as I said before is like Chris with HOVG. I mean I know it's hard to do these post if you have a full time job(don't know if Dan does just using myself as an example) because I tried to do text reviews late last year and I ended up rushing most of them making them be very bad. Also if anyone checks my reviews I stopped right around the time my depression hit me hard. You know I wouldn't mind if Dan did something like one Redux every 3 or 4 months but a year and a half come on.

    4. Speaking of hypocrites, Silent Rob is one of many game reviewers who takes a hard shot at the Irate Gamer. However, if you watch his review of Megaman 4, you'll notice he uses many of the same arguments IG uses to bash an otherwise great game.

  23. Wow. Chris has lost 523 subs in just the last 6 days, with 391 subs leaving yesterday, and another 67 today.

One would think he would see this and realize what's happening, but my guess is he actually doesn't care about it.

    1. A drop in the bucket! There's 147,000 more subscribers where they came from, and when they all get back from whatever jungle safari they're on, Bores' view counts for the past year will all skyrocket into the six-digit range. And then he'll sell 147,000 of each DVD he's made. Mark my words: this is the year after his year!

  24. WARNING: For anyone considering buying the Retron 5... don't... the thing is a complete piece of shit.

The controller has a weird inconsistent delay, I tried playing Super Ghouls and Ghost and couldn't last 30 seconds because it kept randomly deciding when and if it'd accept my commands. Setting up wired controllers is a hassle, it took about 10 minutes to get a Super Nintendo controller working. Then, I was able to do much better with SGnG, I got to the first boss on my first try, only to discover that the system reboots randomly and you loose all your progress. It did this to me five times in a row. For some reason the music and sound seems really off, too.

The best thing I can say about the Retron5 is that the HDMI cable that came with it seems to be pretty heavy duty.

    I'm returning it ASAP.

    1. I was actually really interested in getting one... about two years ago when I initially found out about it. I've been following the news and controversies surrounding the curious little device since then, and what I've seen is absolutely disgusting.

First of all, it kept getting pushed back with little to no official word on why they kept missing their deadlines. The rumor among retailers was that it was due to them wanting to get the Linux-based menu system just perfect. Again, that wasn't an official response, but an industry rumor. Then people started demanding refunds from their pre-orders, and whoever they have running their Facebook and Twitter accounts needs to be fired for treating their customers and potential customers like garbage. Then the damned machine finally comes out, and it doesn't even run the games in the way Hyperkin claimed (i.e., hardware playback). It actually makes a temporary ROM dump into it's system and boots the game off the ROM information, essentially making the Retron 5 a $140 emulator machine. For comparison's sake, you can buy a Raspberry Pi, a decently-sized SD card, a USB controller and an HDMI cable for barely half that price and it would run the games a lot better than the Retron 5.

OH AND THAT'S ANOTHER THING! At one point they claimed that the delays were to make sure the playback was perfect. It has sound issues, graphical glitches, and the wireless controller only works when it wants to. There are numerous reports of the controllers not being read by the machine, or that some of the buttons straight-up don't work, or bizarre dead zones on the d-pad.

All-in-all, it's a bust. Considering Hyperkin's been really hit-or-miss with their products as of late (don't get me started on their PS3 "Game Genie"), they are really going to feel this one.

    1. Am I the only one who kinda wants Disney to buy them, considering Capcom's rich history with both Marvel and Disney proper (as well as those games they made based on the Lucasfilm film Willow. I'd like to see them rereleased.)?

      Delete
    2. Well if Disney does buy Capcom the Kingdom Hearts fans will go crazy with all the possibilities, that is if Square chooses to include anything outside of Square and Disney characters. Shame about them selling their company I never like it when a game company goes under even if they do make bad decision, like Square and all their crappy iOS games so much wasted effort.

Anyway if this is the end of Capcom I hope their properties get in good hands or any hands for that matter but of course that would probably mean alot of reboots I mean remember people's reaction to DMC. Than again DMC was actually a good game so who knows what will happen.

    3. Megaman X is my all-time favorite game series, so I really hope that series gets revived. I'm sure it won't be long before game companies start focusing on virtual reality with their consoles, and I always imagined how badass a virtual Megaman X game would be.

    2. It's a somewhat slick website, but they seem to be a small fish in a huge pond- informing people about video games is a huge industry with way too many people jostling for position. And they showed poor judgement by allying themselves with Bores in any way, though in the wake of E3 it appears that bond's been broken.
