A Review Straight from Hades Himself. Use the Great Sacred Treasure Pit!

I think Chris has no idea how his own gimmick is supposed to work.
The idea behind the “caustic critic” is that they look at material that’s bad, and mock it.
Essentially “this game/movie/music is bad, let me show and tell you why it’s bad”.
Going by DuckTales and this video, Chris has now resorted to “I’m angry all the time, here’s a random game for me to make fun of and do stupid sketches. It doesn’t matter if it’s an actual bad game or a legitimate classic.”
At this point, he cares more about inserting random Family Guy-esque sketches instead of trying to actually critique the game. But the other side of the coin is just as bad. He knows that he knows nothing about games, almost everyone knows he knows nothing about games, and he can’t actually do a proper critique as he would expose himself as an even greater fraud.
All he can do now is appeal to the 11 year olds that find his randomness funny. Because his “new” fans sure as hell aren’t watching considering how little views he gets. Oh, but they’ll be back when he makes another video badmouthing James Rolfe.

It’s a new IG episode, this time covering Kid Icarus on the NES.
… Why?
What I don’t get is that Chris put this in his Top 5 NES Games list waaaay back in 2008. He even did a “fuck the haters” bit when he admitted he uses Game Genie. Now suddenly this game deserves to be bashed? You make no sense!

I haven’t even started the video, and the description is already annoying me.

“Kid Icarus is one of my personal nostalgic classics and for this episode, we are going to tear it apart!” Yeah, this proves to me he doesn’t understand how this works.
“Hard? Yes. Unfair? Absolutely! Biased review? You can expect no less!” Oh that’s a great sign, when you outright admit this review will be biased. You might as well tell people “Don’t watch the video because I have an agenda!” You’re no better than Polygon.
“Sorry Kiddies, this one has bad words, it's not for you.” … Fuck you. Quit trying to pretend you’re family friendly. You’re not, you never were, and you never will be. Also, PewDiePie has shown me that parents don’t care if their pre-teen kid watches someone curse while playing games. Personally I feel those parents should be disallowing their kids to watch him, but that’s a different can of worms.

10 minutes… bracing for pain.

0:17 - 0:33: The video MOTHERFUCKER GOT A PIT AMIIBO! You better have paid out the ass for that! If any of your stupid little fans gave it to you… agh.
Anyway, because Nintendo “recently” (more like four months ago) released the Pit amiibo, he feels that’s a good time to review Kid Icarus. That is REALLY flimsy justification. I know you don’t need a justification to review a game, but that is terrible.
Blah blah nostalgia but hard. Then a part where he looks at the Kid Icarus poster on his wall.

0:34 - 1:04: IG says that if you play this, you can’t just bring your “A-Game”, with a giant red letter A next to him. Thanks Chris, I’m pretty sure we know what the letter A looks like.
“You better bring your Triple A-Game!” No! No AAA gaming! Oh wait, he meant something else…
While he’s saying all this, we get a shot of IG doing his absolute worst “Winter Gaming”. He looks like he’s fucking dancing. NOBODY PLAYS GAMES LIKE THIS CHRIS! WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?
He says something with “50 shades” in it. Trust me, you do NOT have that audience. Or maybe people find it funny because “hur hur it’s something in real life!”

And because this video needed to be 10 minutes long for some reason, we get a montage. Lots of death interspliced with IG doing his awkward “angry rawrs”. Until he eventually sticks a fork into an electrical socket and kills himself. I’d say video over if I didn’t just say this was 10 minutes long.

1:05 - 1:30: He then consults the instruction manual. Reading those again? I thought… never mind. He already contradicted that with his Home Improvement review, so of course he’s going to keep doing it.
He goes over the story, how Medusa took over Angel Land, claiming it was to “piss off every gamer that tries to play this game”. *cough*
He notes the enemy list and wonders how a “game intended for kids” allowed the picture of the Syren enemy (with exposed blue breasts). IG… puts the manual in his pocket and says “save that for later”. … Gross gross gross gross gross.

1:31 - 3:36: Onto the game itself.
He goes over how you start in the Underworld and make your way up to Medusa’s Palace. Including footage of the final boss fight. I love how the Game Genie use is obvious with 999 Hearts. I know he admitted it before in his Top 5 video, but it’s still funny.
He mentions how the upward stages allow you to walk left and end up the right, and that enemies can do this to. When an enemy does this, he throws his controller to the left, and it hits him from the right side. Without a cord. I know this is actually something in the game, but didn’t he already do this joke in Temple of Doom?
He then brings up how the platforms disappear below as you climb up, which adds to the difficulty. He demonstrates this with a Love Tester showing “Medium, Hard, Harder”. Followed by more deaths.

Lots of enemies, he mentions the Reaper. For some reason he calls the Reaper a “she”, and that “she” summons her “death babies”. You do realize that’s NOT a woman right? I know some works of fiction portray Death as a woman (Neil Gaiman’s Sandman being one of the best), but it’s pretty clear that this version of the Reaper isn’t meant to be a woman. Hell, it’s not really meant to be a man either. It doesn’t really have a set gender.
Anyway, the Reapettes are summoned, and says these “little turds will fuck you up”. I see he’s still inconsistent with leaving in f-bombs or just bleeping them.
Then a bunch of deaths. Notice that one of the deaths wasn’t caused by a Reapette, but by a Monoeye (the red enemies). Wrong take Bores?

More explaining, enemies drop hearts that act as currency, the doors can lead you to shops, he showcases some of the items (using his “patented green circles of no shit”)  and says the barrel just causes the shopkeeper to laugh at you. Uh no, the barrel is used to increase the number of Water of Life Bottles you can carry. Eight instead of one. Also, buying any expensive item will have the shopkeeper “laugh at you”. He’s laughing because you gave him a lot of hearts and is happy. Not because you bought a “worthless item”. The game’s hard, but it’s not a dick.
He mentions the other rooms that have enemies, endurance rounds, or “mystics” that give you power-ups. That “mystic” is actually Zeus.
The power-ups give Pit a green hue, and IG remarks that now he’ll “power-up green too”. … What? So he … turns into… what the fuck even is that? Is that one of the vegetables from VeggiesTales? Where is the sense?! I can’t say I expected that, I thought he would just turn his skin green again and pretend to be the Hulk.

3:37 - 5:32: He reaches the Boss Fortress. I forgot to mention earlier he did the Love Tester gag again, going from “Harder” to “Extremely Hard”. He does it again here, going up to “Shit Myself Hard”. Yeah, I’m counting that as a poop joke (the evergrowing list of them to contradict the fans claim of “he doesn’t do poop jokes”)
He lists off the enemies because that’s one of his methods of padding, calls the Uranos enemies “nightclub bouncers” HOLD ON! The Uranos enemies only show up in Skyworld, the third world. In fact, they only show up in the Skyworld Boss Fortress. Meaning he’s just mixing up the footage of the fortresses to try and make the first one sound harder than it really is. Why do you do this Bores? Being dishonest isn’t funny.
Anyway, he brings up the Eggplant Wizards and how they turn you into an Eggplant and that you need to see the Medic to cure yourself… Nothing wrong here.
He mentions the map, and that it doesn’t really work until you buy a torch or pencil. This leads to a “rule of three” joke that ends with him buying another barrel, and editing the text so the shopkeeper calls him a “sucker”. Again, why the dishonesty?

He reaches the first boss, Twinbellows, and gets angry that killing it requires 50 shots. He lists everything he has to do to get to that point. He just loves his lists doesn’t he? You know, the bosses are easier if you bothered to free the Centurions. They act as additional firepower during the boss fight. Press Select to equip a mallet, and smash the statues they’re sealed in. Why didn’t you do this?
He claims “Nintendo had no faith in players” because they provided passwords. Noooo, they provided passwords in case you turn off the game to do something else and want to continue where you left off. Just like its sister game Metroid.
He notes that some of these passwords are fun, listing off legit passwords but not actually telling us what they do. http://www.gamefaqs.com/nes/587380-kid-icarus/cheats You can read them there. He also gets the “ICARUS ANDTHE ARROWS FLYING” one wrong, swapping the last two words. Even though he puts the text on screen next to him. Smooooth.
Then stupid joke time. He enters in “KIDICA RUSISA SHITBU RGER!!” (Kid Icarus is a Shitburger) and gets attacked by Reapettes. You deserve that for bashing this game. By the way, I tested that out and the password does nothing. I did so because I know of “ENGAGE RIDLEY MOTHER FUCKER” and just wanted to make sure.

5:33 - 6:32: Jeez, this feels like it’s taking forever.
On Level 2, Bores says the game gets harder. With the Love Tester now at “Chop My Ass Off Hard”. You’re overdoing this gag Bores.
Also, the game actually gets easier after the Underworld. Especially now that you’re not going straight up and don’t have the risk of falling death. Sure you go back up in Skyworld, but you have a lot more powers by then.
There’s the ice physics, and the “snowball flinging assholes”. Ah, you mean the Snowmen? We then get a bit where IG has to look up what they’re called in the manual (uggggh let it go Danarchy, you already mentioned this) and sees they’re called … “Snowball Flinging Assholes”, with edited text so flippin’ obvious that I question how ANYONE CAN FIND THIS FUNNY THIS IS FUCKING STUPID GOD DAMN S:DILfjkkl;asdfjl;aksdfjklasjdfklpas;rt5jhkl;awejwtjafkl;awdfj
….

……..
Okay, I think I’m good now.

He gets past the Overworld levels to the Overworld Boss Fortress. More complaining about difficulty, then he reaches Hewdraw. Where he bitches that he needs to hit him 100 times. Get the Centurions! The mallets are there for a reason! How are you completely ignoring them? Is this like the Sheet in Aladdin where you purposely ignore it because for whatever ungodly reason you think it’s “funnier that way”? Because it’s not!
And we get the Love Tester again, now up to “You’re Fucking Kidding Me”. I agree, you have to be kidding me with this terrible video.

6:33 - 7:12: He reaches Skyworld.
What follows is an overly long sequence of IG jumping up small platforms with forced reactions. One of them doesn’t even make sense. He’s biting the nails on his right hand while pressing “Up” like he’s jumping. You don’t press Up to jump in this game, you press A, like most great games. Do you ever pay attention to how your stupid reactions look?
Of course, he dies after almost reaching the top. With another stupid reaction.

7:13 - 7:52: He reaches the Boss Fortress.
He complains that there’s too many Eggplant Wizards. This leads to a dumb bit where he says “Left Right Left Right Up Down Up Down” then says “B A Start” and the Contra intro plays with Bill and Lance’s heads replaced by eggplants. Not only is that not funny and completely pointless, he got the Konami Code WRONG. It’s Up Up Down Down Left Right Left Right B A (sometimes with Start). How could you forget this? Oh right, not a gamer. But even so he still did the Contra videos! Granted, he has stated in the past that he often forgets what games he covered… awful just awful.

Once again, he doesn’t free a single Centurion to help him fight the boss, Pandora. Who he calls a “he”. What is it with Chris being unable to identify gender in this game? He calls the Reapers women, and calls Pandora a man. I mean, I know she’s just a floating bubble but considering he has the instruction manual, he would know that they call her a goddess.

7:53 - 8:17: He reaches the final level. The Palace in the Sky.
This leads to a dumb joke where he explains that the level loops until you kill 50 enemies, and as he explains this his room is looping until he walks out into a cartoon world. WHAT IS THE POINT?! Why?! This feels like a complete waste of editing time! Who finds this funny?

The video ends with him reaching Medusa. He then complains that she’s too easy. OH SHUT THE FUCK UP! You spent the entire video crying about this game being too hard, and when you get a nice reprieve with the final boss, you complain! Jeez, this is like Aladdin all over again, only this game is actually hard. Oh and one more Love Tester bit where it goes below Medium to “Limp Dick Easy” HUR HUR HUR FUCKING HUR!
He claims she takes less time to kill than the “Grim Reaper Babies” No, you can kill those in one hit. If you want them to stop coming, you have to kill the Reaper itself. That only takes 10 hits with the basic weapon. Since you get upgrades…
Anyway, he reaches the ending. Which he calls “one last can of worms.” Why? What’s wrong with the ending? What stupid whiny nitpick do you have about it?
He goes over the endings, the three “bad” endings, the good, and the best ending. Notice how the quality of the best ending is waaay lower than the rest of the video. Making it pretty obvious that he took this clip from somewhere else. No credit at all. You know, you could just use a Password to get the right ending. Just saying…
I just noticed he calls Palutena a princess. She’s not a princess, she’s a goddess. Learn the difference.
So, what ending does IG get? The worst one. HAW HAW! This leads to the last Love Tester gag, going past the top to “Atomic Anal Explosion”. Charming… should I count that as a poop joke?
This leads to an extreme close-up of IG’s eyes as they catch fire. He then goes to his refrigerator, takes out an eggplant, throws the game onto the garage floor, and starts hitting it with the eggplant. I… don’t see how that hurts it. Especially when by the end of it, the game looks fine but the eggplant is in pieces. He then salutes the game for some reason. What? God this was stupid!

Okay since Bores won’t tell you how to get the best ending, here’s how. The ending is determined by how many stats you maxed out. If you get 999 Hearts, 5 Strength, 5 Levels, and every weapon in the game, you get the best ending. Seeing how Bores got the worst ending, he got none of that. Which is bizarre as he clearly had 999 Hearts… so he should have at least got the helmet ending. Is this just more shoddy editing to make the game look worse?

Oh my god that was fucking awful.
I swear, the only complaint he had was “it’s hard it’s hard it’s hard”. We know! But that doesn’t mean it’s bad. That doesn’t mean it’s deserving of that stupid eggplant ending.
It wasn’t funny, it wasn’t entertaining, it was infuriating. I just don’t get it.
The rest of the time was just describing what you do. Hell, he did the Boss Fortresses wrong considering he didn’t bother to free the Centurions. That’s what the mallets are for!

So is this going to be the new thing? Taking classic games and bashing them for stupid reasons? What demographic is that even for?
… No, the games are just a backdrop to what Bores really wants. Stupid sketches.

I don’t know if I’ll be able to watch Monday’s video… *collapses*

  1. I'm sure he will review Megaman next and bash it for stupid reasons.

  2. By jove. This has got to be yet another new low for Boring Man. The only reason I can damn him with faint praise is that he finally after SEVEN YEARS understands that it's Pit, not Kid Icarus as his name. Otherwise, this stands alongside Contra and TMNT II Arcade as some of my biggest issues with good NES games he's bashed. It is entirely possible to review a good game or other piece of work and give it a good-natured ribbing; but I don't think Chris knows how to do that. Rather, just more Monster Party skullduggery and Family Guy skits. What a fitting way to end a week whose previous low was my 3DS dying and having to be sent off for repair/possible upgrade to the New XL.

  3. Kid Icarus was a bitch, but I managed to get the (good?) ending on the eShop version for the 3DS. I think it was where Pit was given an adult body, but he didn't kiss Palutena.

This reminds me of when Yahtzee reviewed Uprising and I believe he gave it a negative review(?) The only parts I remember is him complaining about Nintendo (par for the course) and that he thought it was nearly unplayable due to the controls. Maybe he's a lefty?

    1. Well, I *am* a lefty and I wouldn't call Uprising "nearly unplayable". You just gotta adapt to the unusual control scheme.

    2. It's a lot easier if you play it on a New 3DS because of the right thumbstick.

    3. There is a reason I stopped watching ZP several years ago ... the Bias Steamroller against Nintendo is larger than a planet. And I can't take any sort of satire from it because I doubt it is intended as satire.

  4. If you look at Bores's wall on the looping level "joke", you can clearly see a vertical black bar by (I think) the Brawl poster that marks where the ends of the shot of his wall are.

Also, he clearly recycled the shot of himself lifting up the eggplant to beat the game, as the eggplant seems to magically become whole again whenever Bores lifts it into the air and yet becomes more and more damaged when it is shown hitting the game.

  5. OK first off I don't get the appeal of Kid Icarus, it's one of those classic games I don't get why it's a classic. I've play the trail on Smash Bros., parts of it in NES Remix 2, and the GameBoy version on my 3DS, and I still don't get why it's a classic. Maybe it's because I didn't grow up with the NES but I like the NES Castlevaina games, so I don't know.

Anyway enough of that pointless. Is Chris bashing this game even he clamies it to Nostigaic for him more of that "I can't make funny positive reviews"? If you can't make positive funny even somewhat you're not trying hard. For example look at Linkara March of the Titans, that was mostly positive and pretty funny(I though so anyway) also Andrew Dickmen did a some positive game reviews which I found pretty funny, like his Gargoyle`s Quest review. Or he could just not try to make it funny like James` Sword Quest video. Again just more lazy Broes.

    1. Kid Icarus doesn't have the "universal appeal" mindset of some of Nintendo's other franchises. For what it's worth, my first time playing the first game was the 3D Classics edition and I didn't care all that much for it, though I do understand why a lot of people are nostalgic for it, since it's actually fairly creative. I did enjoy Of Myths and Monsters (which seems more like a do-over of the first game than anything) and Uprising. Regardless of how well the first game has aged, Bores still picked the stupidest possible things about it to complain about. So much for calling it one of his favorite NES games.

  6. I wonder what Asa's gonna do now that his buddy has talked shit about a game he likes. Surely, if he could berate NC17 Productions for it, he could do the same for his bedfellow. Anyhow, here's the list again, you know what to do:

    1. Speaking of which, Asa's latest video is about some crowdfunded Channel Awesome game show project which went awry. I already put a comment there calling him out on this.

      Delete
    2. Funny thing, Asa actually admitted that that "makes him sad", and that the DuckTales review was "already pretty bad." So at the very least, he's not exactly fond of Chris's new output.

      Delete
    3. In Asa's defense, the game show was pretty bad.

Doesn't make him any less of a hypocrite, but...

      Delete
    4. In the game show's defense, its only the pilot episode. If they listen to the feedback its getting and iron out the kinks, like a laugh track or a live audience, I can see it working.

      Delete
    5. It's true that the game show(which doesn't even have an original name) was the pilot and they should be able to improve, but there are far too many things working against them. Note-I have seen this game show(nor do I care to) so any thing I say will be based on info I know about from comments and the like
      1. While they don't have experience making a game they should have technical experience, I heard people say it as editing, sound, and lighting problems. If it was ametures making this I would say nothing but no they aren't ametures they have plenty of experience making video that should've carried over.
      2. The amount of money used. OK so originally they wanted 50'000 to make this show but got almost 90'000 but they admitted in the description they didn't even use 50'000 for this pilot, so what the hell were they going to do if they only raised 50'000?
      3. Th e time it took. So the IndieGoGo for this started in June(July?)2013 and now it's April 2015(almost 2 years later) and all we got was ONE pilot when we were told there be THREE game shows, which may or may not be weekly( I don't remember if that was the case. So I would just say they cut their losses because their never going to get 3 weekly game shows.
      4. It's too simple. So I most game shows are basic anyway but Pop Quiz Hotshot was hype like crazy(as far as I know) and yeah it's pretty simple. I feel they should have been more ambitious, like have several contestant(maybe 12) so things could get more hectic, 2 isn't enough, maybe they could have ripped off Beat the Geek(I think that was the title) involving more people from Channel Awesome, or hell be super ambitious and do something like the Xbox Live version of 1 vs 100. As it stands I can't see this lasting more than a year.
5.It won't be going anywhere. What i mean by this is as far as I know they want the game to be on TV. As it stands the best they can ask for daily syndication lie other game shows, which I doubt is what they want.

As it stands I feel Pop Quiz Hotshot is a joke,a sad miserable joke that all those invoke should be embarrassed by it. Maybe I'll watch the pilot to have a better opinion but I can't see myself doing that, maybe it will be great after a year but I really have my doubts. I think this will be another Demo Reel abandoned and forgotten.

      Delete
    6. True, Nostalgia Critic felt awkward with the skits when it was first revived, but there has been significant improvement ever since the revival, and now the skits are welcome and very entertaining. At least if they can't do any better with the game show, Channel Awesome would probably use the money towards another more worthwhile project, like say, another anniversary special. Let's just see what happens. Besides, if Bores was in this same situation, he'd probably just make the same videos and keep the money for himself for selfish things.

      Delete
    7. I still haven't watch Pop Quiz Hotshots but after just reading a couple of recaps I NEVER want to think of this game show ever again. My brain is now sad for knowing more about it. Whiling reading the recaps I actually to stop a few stops trying to get over things like the out of no terrorist question, the Optimus and Rita thing, and Ms. Stockholm. Speaking of Ms. Stockholm all they needed was another female character who was different and there be no huge issues. I though game shows were meant to be fun not depressing, I just want to forget this ever existed where's the Men in Black when you need them. Seriously I really wish that mind wiping thing from Men in Black was real think how much better that would make our lives.

    8. At least it's not like how FremantleMedia was doing YouTube game shows. God, that "YouTube Family Feud" gives me the heebie-jeebies. No, seriously, look:
      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LfmrI7-HhC4

BTW, BatDan, what game shows, if any, that are currently running (on GSN or elsewhere) do you like or dislike?

    9. I didn't like the Game Show at all. I hope they'll listen to feedback and make it better.

      Delete
    10. I doubt they will listen if only because they would need another $50,000 too...you know that's probeably been driven into the ground by now. Anyway here are they defently need to change
      1. the prize. Unless they are going for a daily show 100$ doesn't cut it, they either need to raise the amount or have different kinds of prizes. For example how about a cameo in a Nostigaic Critic, don't tell me people wouldn't want that I'm there are plenty who would.
2.Lose the dark theme. The problem with dark theme is that the show is dark for the sake of being; random question about horrible events, killing people for losing, holding the only woman against her will. It's almost like they don't know how dark martial work. It also doesn't make sense for Brad's character, why does he have people killed for losing other than "hey it's overly dark laugh"
      3. Have a point to everything. Why the random challenges and answering questions as a COPYRIGHT CHARACTER(so long TV version) other than "dur dur wacky".
      4. A different final challenge. Having a head to head with Doug is stupid simply because he's one of the writers, he already knows the answers. This is easily fix however, in the final round have Brad give a random subject and Doug and the remaining contestant give off as much trivia about that the subject in a set amount of time.

I might actually watch this the pilot and give more thoughts on this game show on my blog(and bring it back from it's 2 year death) but only if the next episode comes out within a month(maybe 2) or so.

"I never ranted on bad games" Bullshit. A lot of the games you've talked about are considered bad by many people. Back to the Future, X-Men, Silver Surfer, Where's Waldo, Power Rangers on Sega CD, E.T., RoboCop. Don't try to fucking sit there and act innocent like "Oh that's not myyy thing, that's the other guy". Fuck off.
And another thing, NOBODY ends their review of something like supposedly like, by smashing an eggplant over it. How fucking dense are you Bores? Seriously.

  9. I had this game as a kid and enjoyed it. This is not such a Nintendo Hard game as he makes it out to be. Sure, it's challenging, but not balls hard. I could beat the game when I was 11. (And that was in 1989 with no online walkthroughs or game genies.)

Also, I never bothered freeing the centurions in the palaces. They would just get picked off in the first 30 seconds by the boss leaving me to fight the boss myself anyway.

At this rate, I wouldn't be surprised if he bashes Super Mario Bros. 3 in a future video.

  10. An actual comment on this video:

"Haha, I can't believe the book actually says "snowball flinging assholes"!"

Yep, some schmuck was apparently under the impression that that wasn't just a dumb joke on Bores's part and that Nintendo would actually put that in one of their manuals.

    1. I hate so many of the ignorant comments on his videos, such as one that read "I tip my hat to you Chris you have capitalized on an untapped market while the AVGN and other game reviewers have basically bowed out of making new videos cough jontron cough you swooped in and delivered. Great review Chris." Good fucking god, this guy must live in a bubble almost as big as Bores's.

      Delete
    2. Especially funny since, if they're making a dig at how James' output isn't really focused on AVGN, HE JUST PUT OUT A NEW AVGN A WEEK AGO.

      Delete
    3. Yeah, and it was that epic crossover with the Nostalgia Critic on TMNT 2014. James and Doug did the "being in the video game" joke 1000 times better than Bores could ever do it.

      Delete
    4. Also, James posts a new LP with Mike every Monday and still makes AVGN episodes; and JonTron never has a schedule for his videos, but that doesn't matter because they're all actually good.

      Delete
    5. And I loved it a lot! Especially at how there were so many things related to the game that somehow predicted what would happen in 1997. The comments on his video added a few more things to add to the chain.

      Delete
    6. The mention of Scrooge McDuck's 50th Anniversary being in 1997 in the Nerd's latest game review was quite a coincidence, I have to admit (due to IG's horrible Ducktales review and even more horrible LP of Ducktales). I'm surprised there weren't a bunch of stupid, angry IG fanboys trying to talk shit about James copying Bores. Oh well, this just proves that James can do references right, while Bores overuses them as jokes.

      Delete
    7. By the way, the review was awesome, and I always love it when James has a revelation about a shitty game at the end of a video, since he doesn't use it too much (the only other time I can think of right now was in Jekyll and Hyde).

    8. @Lewis Lovhaug

Sorry I forgot to mention James Hong Kong 97 review before. I thought you said "video" instead of "AVGN". I'm still surprised it came out so close to his crossover with Doug.

  13. "So he … turns into… what the fuck even is that? Is that one of the vegetables from VeggiesTales?"

I believe that particular character is Larry the Cucumber. He was one of the main characters in countless episodes of VeggieTales, along with Bob the Tomato and Junior the Asparagus (yes, I somehow remember all these characters and names despite the many years that have elapsed since I watched VeggieTales as a kid).
To be honest, I can see a VeggieTales joke working in this episode with regards to the Eggplant Wizards, but that wouldn't make it any less random and/or unfunny.

    1. Fair point. The joke could have worked in relation to the Eggplant Wizards. But the way he used it, it didn't work at all.

    2. Also, why the fuck did Larry have arms in this video? The Veggie Tales do not have limbs of any kind.

      Delete
    3. As I've noticed watching the promos and intros to the show.

BTW, Bores better not put Larry the Cucumber on his next DVD (eh, but he will anyway, 'cause he's a dumbass), or else DreamWorks (who currently owns the rights to VeggieTales, including the new "In the House" spin-off on Netflix) might sue him.

      Delete
    4. Wait he had arms? Oh...Oh no did he try to make a friggin' Drawn Together Joke!? For those that don't know, one of the episodes had the veggitales as a parody of people that try to use religion to force people to practice sexual abstination. There, they had arms which kind of ruined the parody. Bore, none of your audiance would get that since A) that was one episode and kind of obscure, and B) YOUR AUDIANCE IS TOO YOUNG!!! Why the fuck would Bores take an image of a Larry the Cucumber MASCOT COSTUME (while leaving the arms and cutting out the legs, no less) instead of just finding an official image of Larry on Google? Not even BatDan's theory of why he couldn't find pictures of Flint from GI Joe can help us make sense of this.

I just realized that it only showed the top part of the Larry costume, so the legs could exist yet not be in the shot of IG turned into Larry. Still, he looks fucking weird with the arms.

The biggest reason I initially liked it, was due the fact that I'm a big Kevin Smith fan, and this movie is supposed to have him in it in some fashion, as well as many of the others from the first movie as well.

The other reason I want to see this is because both James Rolfe and Mike Matei are in it. I watched the teaser again to make sure it was James that I saw, and it was.

  16. Guys, I understand I’ve kind of asked this question before a few times. But if you don’t mind, I’d like to bring it up again.

Without ever clearly knowing about Bores’ life pre-IG, can you imagine or speculate what it MIGHT have been like? Do you think Chris was just an average school kid in high school, or perhaps do you reckon he was always the unpopular kid and got picked on and ridiculed by other students constantly?

You see, I’ve always wondered what it was that made Chris Bores so incredibly egotistical today. If we were to consider the possibility of him having a history of being bullied, that could very well explain why his mother, ladybuggin777, is so fiercely protective of her own son.

Something tells me that Chris probably didn’t get the attention and respect he wanted in school/college and this would answer why he’s deluding himself to believe he has a devoted fan base and people love watching his videos.

Or… maybe I’m reading into all this too deep. lol You decide. What do you think? Just trying to find an answer behind Chris’ anti-social behavior.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I could see it as a possibility, but I honestly don't know if it's very likely. If he was bullied a lot in school, he probably would have brought it up at least once in the "Opening Up" video to garner irrelevant sympathy, just like he did by saying he was a "very religious" person in the same video and by talking about his near-death dad in his update video. Hell, his ego is so big right now that he would probably try to point out these bullies and have his mindless fanbase hunt them down on the Internet. Also, it still wouldn't matter if he was bullied, because he has already bullied so many other people, like James Rolfe, Guru Larry, Geoff Hassings, JewWario, and anyone who doesn't agree with his work (seriously, just look at the shit he says to people as LadyBuggin777). Oh yeah, and I think it's clear that LadyBuggin777 is actually Bores using a fake account to justify saying mean things to people (whether they are haters or not). No matter what people say on his videos, two wrongs do not make a right. If he truly was bullied as a kid, he would remember what it feels like and not have done so to these other people. He still deserves all this hate from not realizing how he can change both as a video producer and as a human being. As for his antisocial behavior, I don't know.

      Delete
    2. When did Bores pick on Guru Larry? Are they no longer friends?

      Delete
    3. Considering their appearance in the Cheetahmen II Kickstarter video, I almost imagine Bores bullying Pat the NES Punk and the Game Chasers, too, even if they're nowhere near as popular as the Nerd.

And unsurprisingly, the majority of comments on the new video are positive...

    4. @The Notorious Phantom

I know there was one time where Bores basically insulted someone for getting fired from IGN or something, but I couldn't remember who exactly it was. I remembered it being Guru Larry, but now I'm not so sure. Sorry, I just can't find what post on this blog it was on where BatDan talked about Bores insulting someone for getting fired.

  23. So the other day I heard about Angry Joe no longer doing any Nintendo videos and didn't think much of, I just read an article about it and really to me it sounded like "I can't make money off ONE random video FUCK NINTENDO feel bad for me!" I'm not a huge watcher of Joe's videos so I don't know how many Nintendo videos he's actually but according to what I read the number is 2. I'm pretty sure he can money off all his other videos what the hell difference does 1 or 2 videos make. I also don't get people taking his side because it sounds like people are saying they don't want to make money off Nintendo videos but are pissed they can't make money but are than saying Nintendo can't get free publicly off them, you can't have both ways people. I once said I was curious to do Let's Plays because it seemed fun but people talking like this are making it seem like they only make Let's Plays because they want money by playing games instead of you know for fun. Maybe's it's because I don't make videos about games but this attitude several people have just seems depressing. And yes I know Angry Joe does reviews but from what I've been told his Nintendo videos were Let's Plays so there you go.

    1. Andrew Schroy already started a thread about this in the last blog post. As someone who's seen a lot of Joe's videos, I say that he is probably one of the most reasonable gamers on the Internet and one of the most reliable sources of information on whether a game is good or not. Joe's only job is being on YouTube, so if he starts making Nintendo videos more and not making videos of other games as often, he will lose money. He is right, Nintendo really needs to adapt if it's ever going to surpass Sony and Microsoft in order to reclaim its former dominance in the video game industry.

    2. I was responding but accidentally close out of the page and I'm typing everything I already type, so I'll keep this short as possible.

"I say that he is probably one of the most reasonable gamers on the Internet" if he's so reasonble why does this rant make him out as an attention whore

"Joe's only job is being on YouTube, so if he starts making Nintendo videos more and not making videos of other games as often, he will lose money." well I guess it's a good thing he barley makes Nintendo videos or he be out of a job. Also it's good he doesn't pay attention to Nintendo news or might of already know what Nintendo starting doing on Youtube a few months ago.

I said this on Twitter and I'll say it here too, unless making Nintendo videos on Youtube is how you make a living you really have no right to bitch about it,get upset sure but not bitch and call out Nintendo. To me it seems Joe isn't mad at Nintendo's Youtube policies, it seems like he's more upset he can't make a quick buck which if that's the case he's a very petty man. Youtube policies isn't Nintendo's biggest problem I don't know why people act like it is.

      Delete
    3. Joe has said he's actually had more fun with the Wii U than he has with the PS4 and Xbox One combined. If he made half of his reviews/playthroughs Nintendo related, which he actually may want to do, he will lose half of his money. Other game companies don't do this, so it is a damn shame that Nintendo is doing it.

Also, you really like to play Devil's Advocate on this blog about anything, don't you?

      Delete
    4. Ok first of all if it seems I'm playing Devil's Advocate that's only because I try my best to find positives in anything, very rarely have I ever hated anything. Second I know this is nit-picky but Nintendo takes 40% not half, I know that would still be alot to some but it's not half. Unless of course it's the other way around then ignore what I just said.
Onto to Joe himself. I actually wouldn't have taken a huge issues if it wasn't for the timing, it's been months now since Nintendo started this whole thing on Youtube if he did this back when they started fine but he didn't. Really this feels like he's just trying to either jump on the Nintendo bashing or attract people who think this is the first time Nintendo has suffered in the console wars because the N64 and GameCube were such huge success. And I'm sorry to bring this up again but the lack of Nintendo videos on Joe's part doesn't put him the right position for this, and I don't mean from his viewpoint I mean everybody who acted like this was big news. Seriously I saw at least 3 sites covering this like it was news worthy, guess what it wasn't.
Onto Nintendo themselves. Yes this whole thing on Youtube was not the best thing they could have done but you that's what companies do good decisions and bad decisions, that's not new information. This whole Youtube thing will be mostly forgotten whenever they do something great or something terrible, which one would say the supply and demand of Amibos are because I feel that's more relevant than this whole 40% thing on Youtube.

      Delete
    5. Your comments in the Pop Quiz Hot Shot thread say otherwise about you trying to be positive. Also, I son't think Joe intended for the video to spread like this.

      Delete
    6. Well as for Pop Quiz Hot Shot my first reaction was disappointment and than angry, because I really wanted it to succeed when I first heard about it, it sounded fun. However the finish product was a sad miserable embarrassing mess, I have clam down since my inaction reaction and have say ways they can fixed it because it`s not a bad idea though if they really want it to succeed they ironic would need more money. As I said if the next episode comes out within a month or so i will do a Blog going over everything that needs to be fix, changed or dropped and not because I hate(though at the moment I do) but because it`s early enough it can be salvage. Than again it could be just another DemoReel(which I know nothing about so I have no idea why that failed)

You`re most likely right about Joe not wanting his video to spread that way but it did and he can`t change that. Though the saddest thing is the idea of people saying Nintendo`s Youtube policies are a reason why they`re losing this console war, than how do these people explain the financial failure of the N64 which is the third(or second can`t remember)worst selling Nintendo system right along side the Virtual Boy and WII U.

I know I'm not good with words most of the time and it can makes things sound awkward, and sometimes I do get in the wrong mindset, which is exactly what happen with Pop Quiz Hot Shot and Joe's video because I didn't want to actively attack either. Even if it did seem that way. I just try to look at things from every angle because I really don't want to hate things, even though it's hard sometimes. Because really why would you want to hate so much isn't better to at least be indifferent to something. As I said minus some truly horrible things in the world(even then I don't really hate those things too much just find them horrible) there isn't much I really do hate.

Speaking of demonizing... that appears to be the only mode you can put yourself into when it comes to Bores or myself.

      Delete
    5. So, this one guy said that he doesn't buy that Bores is a nice guy and will end up disappointing all the shit people supporting him. To this, Asa said:

"I dont for a moment believe this video will negatively affect him."

Only for the other guy to make this valid argument (though I don't like the last part about the trolls):

"Nor do I. The worse reaction that I could see him having to this video is one of indifference. The problem that I was alluding to is that I don't have any reason to believe that he has adequately changed on an intrinsic level to the point where he would truly be precluded from repeating those old behaviors. To grace him with a single complement, he does allow ratings and comments, and he does engage in polite conversation with viewers. Fan-fucking-tastic.

Notwithstanding, that in no way has muted the cardinal sins that still plague the Irate Gamer Show. Whether it be the structurally flawed reviewing style, the lazy shit jokes, the poor choice of games, the intellectual dishonesty, or the destruction of the game being reviewed, the Irate Gamer is as much of a product of its time now as it was in 2007 except that it now has a glossier coat of paint and a considerably vague idea of continuity.

What baffles me is that not only do people find that misguided progression acceptable, but it's pretty much become politically incorrect to speak any ill of Bores' work. What's even more baffling to me is that a lot of the people who seem to enforce that idea are people who stopped giving a shit about the Irate Gamer (and angry reviewing to a greater extent) years ago and assume that anyone who continues to dislike his content is just hung up on the past, case and point Archfiend's self-induced guilt trip. I've been watching IG for years now, and I've been hoping to see him grow past all of those integral flaws, and he still hasn't ameliorated any of them; and the worst part is that now anyone who pipes up about it will almost inevitably have to put up with all the guilt-ridden quasi-concern trolls who think that because they harbored animosity against Bores and expressed it through criticism and parody that anyone who does just that feels the same way.

Sorry for going off on a tangent there. Let's hope your video does some good."

And then, Asa tries to completely disregard the real reason we all hate Bores by saying this shit:

"I don't suffer from such guilt. I didn't like the new episodes, but I won't crucify him for them, either. I believe he's in his own comfort zone and will very likely not come out of it.

One needs not be belligerent to get a point across, after all. I do feel the guy gets an inordinate amount of the non-constructive kind of criticism and is of course, the central subject of a personal witchhunt against him. For what? Simply because he makes low-brow, child-like videos that a group of people do not enjoy? That's also ridiculous.

That said, I think you hit it on the nail, most likely, he'll ignore this and many other criticisms like it and bask in whatever praise he does get instead. I wish he would lend an ear to at least SOME of the criticisms against his work, but hey, we're very obviously not the target audience."

    6. After I told Asa that we all hate Bores for being a human piece of shit and not just for making shit, itself, he responded with this:

" except he didn't really do anything dirty. It's not like he denigrated AVGN's name, and i'm not aware of any time he talked about anyone else. I remain skeptical about that doctored post where he allegedly brought up Jew Wario, too. What OTHER allegedly evil things has the man done that makes you just plain hate him so much and never give him an ounce of benefit of the doubt? I mean seriously, man. Does he really REALLY warrant this much hatred, or is it just that you have talked each other into such a frenzy that you've collectively convinced yourselves he's thoroughly incapable of good in any capacity?"

    7. Yes he's trying to make a profit off someone else's art that is disgusting. Maybe I'm a little a biased because I'm an artist myself but this is something horrible he's doing right now. There's video proof of it too because Chris made the video himself. This is something I'll never forgive Chris.

    8. Now Asa's telling me that Bores probably wanted to talk to Hastings in private over the whole artwork thing, which is why he deleted Hastings' comment asking for credit. Fucking bullshit.

      Delete
    9. ....OK if that were true there's just one problem, Chris never credited Hastings for his work. Also he didn't need to delete comments to say "hey let's discuss this privately". Asa is really reaching to defend thievery. Now that I think about was the Irate Gamer Game copyright by the creators? If it was I don't think Chris can legally sell Hastings work without say so from the makers, I could be wrong cause I don't much about copyright materiel.

    10. So LadyBuggin has confirmed that Hassing's post is back up on the video (I checked, she's telling the truth), but I don't see Bores giving him credit anywhere like she said he did.

  28. Looking at today's video, and Monday's video, I'll cover both in Friday's post.

    1. So, who wants to do some research and see if this site is actually good? Also, do you think this was a paid review? Quite a lot of dislikes on the video so far.

  29. I really can't fucking stand the fact that Bores now says "Game On" TWICE at the end of every video now (once right before the channel plug and another time at the end of the channel plug). It already pisses me off enough to hear it once, but does he just want to torture people even further. It doesn't even matter whether I'm overreacting or not, because he shouldn't say the same thing two different times so close together in a single video.

  30. Is it wrong to own one skylander? Because I only have one, and I am a little embarrassed to own a piece of skylanders anything.

    1. Just as long as you don't go overboard.

    2. I've heard that Skylanders can be more toxic to people than marijuana, alcohol, weed, and cocaine combined.

I also made this shit up just because I was bored. lol

    3. Nothing wrong with Skylanders in itself; it only became a problem when within 2-3 years Chris had more Skylanders-related videos than Non-Skylanders videos, sometimes posting 5-10 Skylanders videos in the same day.

    4. Not planning on going crazy if I do decide to start. Mostly a Pokémon/Transformers/Star Wars collector; though I am dabbling in Marvel and Power Rangers now as well. Most likely, I plan on just getting the first three Spyro games on PSN; since Sony and Insomniac thankfully still own the rights to the ones they made.

  31. Just started playing Super Mario Bros 2 for the first time in years. Great game. It makes me look back on how asinine Bores' old 'review' of the game was.

    1. Yes, it's among the more underrated entries in the Mario canon; and I'm glad that Doki Doki Panic also made its way stateside as Doki Doki Magic on Virtual Console. I also find it odd that he praised the Lost Levels for the same reasons he bashed SMB2, despite his longstanding disdain for difficult games (and the Lost Levels being FAR more brutal than the SMB2 we got).

    2. I think that review was supposed to be like AVGN's Castlevania 2 review - bash the 2nd game of a great series cause it's different from the rest of the series. I agree Zelda 2 needed to be bashed, but I always thought Mario 2 was a great game.

    3. Here's a though what if Chris had bashed Zelda 2 instead of Super Mario Bros. 2, would have more sense when you think about it. I think the only reason he did was because he wanted to make a big deal out of the "scandal". Actually speaking about Doki Doki Panic my sister never knew about the whole re-skin thing and when I told her a couple of years she was so shocked. Though to be fair I never knew myself either till Chris's video(yes seriously) because I never read or saw anything that I would have learned it before hand from.

    4. I think the whole Doki Doki Panic thing was known ever since Super Mario All Stars came out and people became curious where "The Lost Levels" came from, thus leading them to search on the Internet...

      Delete
    5. Well the first video game I ever played was Super Mario All Star with Super Mario so there wasn't much for me to be curious about, also I was 5,wasn't going to give much though to Lost Levels. I also blame my lack of knowing about Doki Doki Panic on the fact I grew up in a rural area as a kid, an area so out of no where I never knew about the Nintendo Sega console war till I was about 19, my first(and sorta last)experience to console rivalry was between the PS2 and Xbox.

Forget that. Who the hell cares about 8-bit nudity? Not like you can actually see anything! So there's nothing to stroke the ferret to! And I'm about as perverted as a girl can get, so I should know!

In short, it's just a really idiotic joke. Like we've seen a million of from the Irate Gamer.
