And Now, the Entirety of IG's E3 2015 Coverage

So, you guys enjoy E3?
Fallout 4 looks pretty damn good! MS has yet to convince me to get an Xbox One, they could have shown Scalebound but nooooooo. EA was… EA. But I did like Unravel. New South Park game! The Sony triple bomb of The Last Guardian, Final Fantasy VII remake, and Shenmue III Kickstarter goes without saying! Horizon: Zero Dawn looks amazing! As does Uncharted 4! New Star Fox co-developed by Platinum! New Mario & Luigi crossing over with Paper Mario! Super Mario Maker looks so much better than they showed before. Kingdom Hearts III footage! Transformers game by Platinum! As well as some other stuff that I can‘t think of right now.

Soooo I’d expect Bores to ruin all this by showing up right?
Well…

On Wednesday he posted a News video about, what fucking else, amiibo and Skylanders. This is likely about Nintendo and Activision collaborating and getting two exclusive Skylanders into the Wii U and 3DS versions of Skylanders SuperChargers. Donkey Kong and Bowser. They also double as amiibo for those that don’t have one of the billions of Bowsers out there (seriously Ninty, stock the others!)
It says a lot about Bores that his first major video about E3 is about the fucking toys. Then again, I doubt he knows what Shenmue is, or Team ICO, or even care enough about Final Fantasy to understand why the VII remake is a huge deal, or care about Star Fox.

“But, shouldn’t he be at the show”
I opened the video, and he’s at home. Surprisingly, Bores didn’t attend this year. Is GotGame finally severing ties? Have they realized that his E3 coverage is always ALWAYS garbage and decided not to bother? Seems things are finally looking up. Hell, IG’s site hasn’t updated since May 29th.

What’s in the video?
He actually gives an excuse for not going. “Business things he can’t talk about”. Riiiiiiiight.
Blah blah blah, more about the stock issues.
“People want what they can’t have” Like how you want James Rolfe’s audience.
“So much new stuff” Almost all of it announced on Sunday. Seriously where were you?
He brings up Super Mario Maker (without saying the name) and claims it’s “heavily influenced by amiibo”. Noooo, the upcoming Animal Crossing amiibo Festival is “heavily influenced”, by which the entire game revolves around it. amiibo usage in Super Mario Maker is just an added bonus. Hell, it’s been confirmed you don’t even need amiibo to get the extra skins. You can unlock them through playing it.
He brings up the large 8-Bit Mario. “I’m not entirely sure what this will do in-game” WHAT? They revealed this! It makes Mario grow giant size! Did you not watch the Digital Event, or any conferences or coverage at all?! … Actually, I shouldn’t be surprised he was lazy about that. Still, more lack of research.

Except it appears he DID watch the event as he brings up that using other amiibo will let you play as that character, and specifically mentions the Wii Fit Trainer like they did. So did you just completely miss 8-bit Mario’s usage?
“Animal Crossing isn’t as big as Super Smash Bros” WOW you are so ignorant. Animal Crossing is fucking huge. It’s one of Nintendo’s biggest franchises. That’s why so many people got angry that the Wii U game is a Mario Party clone instead of a full-fledged life simulator (let’s be honest people, they’re probably not going to make anymore for consoles since the handheld iterations sell waaaaaay more)
Gets to the exclusive Skylanders.
“These will only work with the Wii U” AND THE 3DS! Why does he keep forgetting the 3DS exists? Like when he looked at Mario Kart 8 and said it was the “first new one in years”, implying he didn’t know Mario Kart 7 existed.
Wait, there’s a Wii version of SuperChargers coming? That’s just bizarre.
Rest of the video I don’t care… This is mindless and if I wanted to hear about amiibo I’d go to better places.

We come to Friday, and it’s his Top 5 “Coolest Games and Announcements”. That was fast. Yet another bright side to not going to E3, he won’t be spamming videos for a month pretending it’s actual content. At least he’s timely with the Top 5.
Let’s see what stupid things he picks this time.

Number Five: Super Mario Maker
Though he never refers to it by name. Rather he describes it. “The 30th anniversary edition where you make levels” Chris, how hard is it just to say “Super Mario Maker”? Did you get rejected by Maker Studios and are unable to even say the word “Maker”?

Number Four: Nintendo Skylanders in the next game.
Of fucking course it was… You know why nobody will take you seriously Bores?  Because nobody is going to fucking put the Donkey Kong and Bowser Skylanders on their “Best of E3” lists. It’s not even dumb enough to be on “Worst of E3”.
He thinks this is a “great step” because all amiibo did before was “unlock skins and hats”. Except they were trainable AI in Smash Bros, all new boards in Mario Party 10, challenges in Splatoon, a new weapon for Link in Hyrule Warriors, power-ups for Kirby in Rainbow Curse, playable Fire Emblem characters in Codename STEAM, it’s not just “hats and skins”. Do your fucking research.

Number Three: Cuphead
Ha! You’re never going to play this. You don’t have an Xbox One, and you keep claiming you don’t play PC games. Sure, he could get an Xbox One, but I like to think Bores isn’t THAT dumb to spend $300+ on a console just for one game. If you think GotGame will provide, keep in mind, it’s been almost two years since PS4 and Xbox One came out, and Bores has neither. If he wants those consoles, he’ll have to pay out of pocket.
He then complains that he heard the game is hard. That’s a GOOD THING Chris. Oh right, I forgot who I was talking to. Continue being a casual fool.

Number Two: South Park: The Fractured But Whole
“I loved the last one” All one hour you played of it. I doubt that he actually kept playing once the camera turned off.

Number One: Final Fantasy VII remake
Oh… I guess he does care. But I still doubt he knows the significance of The Last Guardian or Shenmue III.
“The trailer looked fantastic” Don’t trust CG trailers. Game likely won’t come out until minimally 2017 and very likely won’t look like that.
“Good move on Squaresoft’s part” It’s Square Enix. It’s been Square Enix for 12 years. Keep up!

Well… at least there wasn’t anything immensely stupid on the list. Nintendo Skylanders was just kind of stupid, but expected. At least there wasn’t Garden Warfare 2 or that Minions mobile game, or Ghost Recon Wildlands (they’re turning it into the AAA Ubi game! It’s being melded into the gray sludge of AssCreed, Far Cry and Watch_Dogs! Radio towers! Radio towers!)

I hope you guys enjoyed E3. I really hope you didn’t sign that petition to cancel Metroid Prime Federation Forces. It’s futile to try to get it cancelled.

  1. Yeah, this E3 will put this generation in gear. Heck, I was thinking buying myself a PS4 at the end of this year. Fallout 4, Dishonored 2, a new DOOM, The Last Guardian, Kingdom Hearts 3 and, in a more personal note, a new NieR game developped by Platinum Games.

Yeah, I guess next year would be nice to jump in the next generation.

  2. figures Boring man wouldn't mention Doom. Probably would get vertigo anyway

  3. There's a petition to get Federation Forces cancelled? UGH.

Yes, we ALL know it's going to blow ALMOST on the same level as Other M. But as Dan said, no one's gonna get it cancelled. Sakamoto does not give two shits about his franchise anymore to make a good game like Fusion.

    1. I'm not signing it, and I'm sure not expecting the game to be any life-changing experience like the first couple Prime games and Super Metroid were. It should be a relatively-fun team-based shooter; though I hope there's no Adam-level blights upon it (that man had to be the most unnecessary addition to a beloved franchise since Alien Resurrection).

      Delete
    2. Which is ironic, since some people have noted similarities between Metroid Fusion and Alien Resurrection (or more broadly, between the 2D Metroid games and all the Alien/Aliens movies). Check Did You Know Gaming's (first?) video on Metroid.

  4. This is going to be a significant improvement over last year's dry spell for gaming. Even if Federation Force may not be a "proper" Metroid game, it should still be a fun team-based shooter in its own right. Also, PS4 and Xbox One are definitely making some sound arguments for both systems now (one game usually isn't enough for me to buy a new console; usually have to have at least five I'm interested in). Not surprised that Boring Man knows jack about Animal Crossing's popularity, I imagine Resetti would have some choice words for him. The only real low point about the direct was Yo-Kai Watch (I've made no secret of my disdain for the anime, I hope the game is better). Anyway, just got back from Inside Out; it was great. I would definitely recommend it. Even though he didn't go this time, Lewis Black as Anger can still sum up Chris' idiocy being a constant. See you Tuesday, Dan.

    3. It reminds me of those old Looney Tunes cartoons with Porky Pig when he was big and fat.

    4. Damn, the animation is amazing. The studio who made that game did at amazing job on the animation and art style. That alone already gets a full score in presentation.

  6. Well, maybe when the Sony Triple Bomb finally starts being released, I just might get a PS4...and a 3DS doesn't sound like too bad of an idea right now either.

Who wants to bet that Bores has never finished, let alone played, any Final Fantasy game and that he just randomly selected one very big announcement so that his shit list would make him seem more like a gamer? Yeah, that's probably it.

Also BatDan, have you seen that the thumbnail for Bores's "Charlie Charlie" video changed to something so completely stupid?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Wait, I just remembered that Bores reviewed FF3, and in that he said he's played other FF games too. So he technically has played an FF game before. Probably poorly, but still played it nonetheless.

      Delete
    2. I think Chris did play a little of VII because in his worst video game movies list he had Spirits Within on the list and he mentioned liking Final Fantasy. Though he clearly didn't get far in VII because one complaint he said about Spirits Within was that there were no animal characters like Red XIII or Cait Sith, because we all know how much of an animal Cait Sith was, I love it when animals are soulless robots.

      Delete
    3. One thing that confuses me about Cait Sith is that before he's revealed to be a robot being controlled by a human, some description in the game said that he's a cat who controls the Moogle doll he sits on with magic. So, does the guy control the cat, the moogle, or both...? Then again, nothing in FF7 makes much coherent sense as a whole.

  7. The Final Fantasy VII remake alone is exciting me.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. To be fair, this is actually bad news for Square Enix. They never wanted to do a remake, but now feel forced to because of the way the Final Fantasy XIII games sold and how they were received. It's like the same reason Dumb and Dumber To was made finally...they never wanted to make it but felt they needed to do it after failing to create something new that connected with people.

  8. Am I the only one who DIDN'T flip out when Federation Force was announced? Seriously, this is why I differentiate "fans" and "fanbase".

On the topic, I'm really excited for Star Fox Zero, Mario and Luigi Paper Jam and heck, I might even give Fire Emblem Fates a try.
    ^-^

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I didn't flip out over Federation Force, I think it looks like a cute little game. Now granted I can understand people being disappointed because it's been what 7 or 8 years since the last Prime game and the newest one is co-op shooter. But even if you were disappointed that's no reason to start a petition.

      Delete
    2. No, you're not the only one. I agree it sucks that it may not be a "proper" Metroid game, but it should still be a fun team-based shooter all the same. I'm sure not signing that petition. Mario and Luigi Paper Jam sounds fun; as does Star Fox Zero. The only real stinker for me personally is Yo-Kai Watch (unless the game can sway me in a way the anime failed to, which I don't see happening. Not with Ni No Kuni already being out here and being better.).

      Delete
    3. As a longtime Fire Emblem fan, I have to recommend playing another game in the FE series if you haven't already before playing Fates. Even though I haven't played it yet, a lot of stuff in it is a huge departure from what the series usually is, so it probably won't give you an accurate impression of the series.

  9. Oooh, a new South Park video game. Let me guess, is it going to be like the end of the last season where they after 18 seasons abandoned satire and kissed PutridPie's ass for two episodes?

    1. They didn't abandon satire, but I really did hate seeing the (real) PewDiePie there.

  10. I'd be inclined to agree that Animal Crossing is nowhere near as big as Super Smash Bros. In both cases where both a Smash and an Animal Crossing were released on the same home console, Smash sold more than twice as much. And Smash 3DS is already catching up to New Leaf, which had over a year's head start.

(this is all going off Wikipedia top-selling game lists by system).

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Additionally, SSB4 was far more anticipated, with people contemplating what it would be like for months before release (certainly helped by the official website). I'd say that a new Smash Bros. gets people much more excited than a new Animal Crossing.

  11. I feel like I'm one of the few people who's apprehensive of Shenmue III, for a couple of reasons.

First, I'm worried for the game itself. The first two games were super influential, and did a lot of things before they became common practice, including open world gameplay, an ingame clock and calendar, blending RPG elements into an action game, quick time events, and of course having an impractically large budget. Now that it's reentering the market about fifteen years later, Shenmue III going to have a tough time keeping up with modern standards while still upholding its own legacy (not to mention cramming in the last 11 chapters of the planned 15 chapter story, unless they actually still plan to have more sequels...), and I'm worried that Shenmue III could easily become the next Duke Nukem Forever, doomed to be a game that was always better as a concept.

Second, I just find the idea of a big company like Sony using Kickstarter to be kind of scummy for a number of reasons. Obviously a game like Shenmue III is going to have a WAY bigger budget than even the most successful crowdfunding campaign. Hell, right after they reached the initial goal, Sony admitted that they were actually going to be the ones funding the game and Kickstarter was just a way to gauge interest, which to me basically says "Yeah, we're taking preorders for a product that doesn't exist yet." And they're STILL fishing for preorders with stretch goals that will ultimately have nothing to do with the amount of money donated anyway. This just seems like its opening the doors for a lot more big companies to misuse Kickstarter as a means to gauge interest in ideas while cornering out the independent developers, writers, directors, composers, musicians, and other people that the program is meant to support.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Well I can see your point about misusing Kickstarter but to fair the idea isn't terrible. Something I think a lot of people forget is that games can be expensive and I could be wrong about this but I think on 10%-20% of games actually make a profit. It could be seen a scummy but at the same no one wants to lose millions of dollars making something that no one wants, however I can't see this becoming common.

      Delete
    2. I should also add that I'm pretty sure the Shenmue 1 and 2 were not big sellers so using Kickstarter to see if people really wanted a third game does make a little sense, I say a little because they could have found out other ways but you know money talks.

      Delete
    3. I'm just saying, companies are always looking for ways to get people to buy games earlier and earlier. It started with preorders and exclusive bonuses and deals. Then there was early access, or "Pay to be our beta testers!" plus the whole "Ground Zeroes" kerfuffle. With this, they've shown that given a flashy enough introduction they can make millions on preorders of a game that doesn't exist yet. It's a slippery slope, my friend. Plus now I'm worried that every year the big companies might try to grab themselves a high profile IP to crowdfund for some cheap heat.

  12. I watched the Nintendo coverage, sans that Nintendo World Championship (how was that, anyway?). I was mega stoked for the Mario and Luigi and Paper Mario crossover idea for the 3DS! And Star Fox even more so. Whelp. Getting a Wii U. Now to save up....

In other news, I had forgotten what the Nintendo World Championships was even called, and took 2 seconds to look it up. Boring Man, on the other hand, couldn't be fucked to use those two seconds to look up Super Mario Maker. Because what's progress, right?

    2. Well, the sketches he started doing when he revived the NC weren't the best, but they gradually got better. And besides, as long as he got the main points across, he succeeded in making a good review. Humor's not necessary in a review, but I can see why it would be thought of as required with him. My problem though, is that he just comes across as too much of a JP fanboy. Why did he even need to review the first movie?

      Delete
  17. I see where you're coming from and don't necessarily disagree but he has other avenues, such as his real thoughts on... series, to express his review without the humor (and he did do a review like that for JW).

Why not review the first one? Like many of us, he grew up seeing the first one and he is the NC...so he would have reviewed it eventually.

Well guess what? NO teenager of today is going to care much, if anything, about his 80s vids. Why? Because NONE OF THEM WERE ALIVE IN THE 80S!

  24. Recent video was so-so, kind of boring. There are a few nitpicky things in there. Like first of all, do trading cards count as toys? I would think with the millions upon millions of toylines back from the 80s, he would have chose something other than Garbage Pail Kids trading cards to be on his top 5 TOYS list, like Masters of the Universe, Transformers, Hot Wheels, Micro Machines, or STAR WARS even. Whatever, it's a moot point at the end of the day.

  29. My thoughts on some of the games:

Final Fantasy VII remake - I have to be honest-- I've only played FF I and VIII. I've heard good things about it, though! (And I have been wanting to get VII for a long time, even though I'm not really that big an RPG fan.)

The Last Guardian - I don't know about this one, personally. Seriously, it's been in development since 2007?! Hopefully, it doesn't flop like another long-delayed game like Duke Nukem Forever and The Irate Gamer Game did.

Shenmue III - I started playing the first game at a friend's house, and I enjoyed it. Haven't played the second one, though, but I heard it was good. This looks to be decent, too.

Super Mario Maker - ME WANT! :D

Cuphead - ME ALSO WANT! :D

Nintendo Skylanders - Maybe... but I'm more of a Disney Infinity and Amiibo person.

South Park: The Fractured But Whole - ME ALSO WANT! :D

I'm sure some people will disagree, but... hey, can't win 'em all, I suppose.

Kinda wonder when and if Bores will get either a PS4 or Xbox One (or even both) so he can really move on to the current generation of gaming (besides just owning the Wii U). Have you noticed how much attention the PS4 and Xbox One have gotten lately and how the Wii U isn't really on anyone's minds outside of its 1st-party titles (Mario Kart 8, Splatoon, Mario Party 10, etc.)?

BTW, I myself am curious about Bores' appearance on Hardcore Pawn. Hopefully, BatDan's informant will let us know whether it has aired yet (and Bores didn't menion it) or if we still have to wait...

    1. I swear, even after Chris Bores dies, he will somehow still be making Skylanders videos.

    2. You know that every time IG posts a Skylanders video, a child is murdered?

    3. Till Friday then. Think I'll celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Power Rangers movie by watching it yet again when I'm home. #JDFMMPRMOVIE

    1. Geez, it seems like every shitty reviewers has been reviewing Megaman. Well, to his credit, at least he got Cutman's name right and he didn't review all 6 of the NES titles like another certain reviewer I know of.

  33. Holy shit that was awful and quite predictable if you ask me. Being a huge HUGE Megaman fan, there's no question now that Chris is just playing really bad on purpose because ITZ FUNNY DURRRRRR. Couple that with complaining about really stupid stuff, half which could have been resolved if he just used the magnet beam - a thing he doesn't even mention AT ALL. Couple that with stupid references, predictable jokes, etc. etc. and - yeah, typical IG episode. What more can you expect?

I'm really liking the choice of games you've been reviewing, nice to see that they are not the typical "bad" games you've reviewed in previous seasons.

+TheRetroCode Agreed, it's either this or "random dumb game" you've never heard before.

..or you know, you can review games that are actually bad...amirite?

  36. Not to defend the guy or anything but Smash Bros is heaps above Animal Crossing.

  37. Am I the only one here who's excited for XCOM 2?

  38. Sigh... Plants vs. Zombies, I remember how excited I was for PvZ 2 back when I was in middle school and by the time it finally arrived, I was in high school. Not to mention it didn't even HAVE a PC version, the game that STARTED on PC doesn't have a PC version!

I guess I should have expected PvZ to go down this route when they began churning out ports after ports. Die as a hero or live long enough to blah blah blah.
