Bores Cheats in Real Life with Fake Amazon Reviews

Bores, how many times have I stated that cheating is wrong? Nearly every instance you use Game Genie, or other cheating devices, I call you out. But you never learn. Whether it's God Mode in Ghosts n Goblins, skipping to the end of Goonies II, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, and Monster Party, infinite lives in TMNT III: The Manhattan Project, the times you used it for Contra, and even recent stuff like maxing out your stats in Final Fantasy III for DS. You have a loooong history of cheating.

Still hasn't changed now that you're a "published author".  Bores noticed all the negative reviews his book has gotten, so he did the very unethical thing. He used a "review bot" to inflate his numbers.
In the span of a day, a slew of 5-star positive reviews suddenly appeared on his book's review page. Many of them in unintelligible English, making it possible that Bores used something like this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eSfXYi2T5_c

You can see the reviews here.

Notice how many of them repeat the same keywords (as shown in the video above), and are written in a very stilted and unnatural way. Making it clear that Bores is cheating to make his book look better than it really is. Plus, all the new reviews suddenly have multiple people rate them "helpful". That's not suspect at all!

Here's the thing, this is illegal. Amazon can find out about this and permanently ban Chris and his book from the site. Did you really want to take that risk Bores?
I don't know if there's a way to report this to Amazon, if there is let me know. This is just wrong.

Of course, this all relates back to the fact that Bores is incapable of taking criticism, and he continues to show that with a couple of comments about his Kung-Fu review.

First comment comes from totallyterrificpants who gives some pretty good contstructive feedback about the video. How it was a random mess, his use of "NES System" (yes I missed this, but I think he used it before and I'm just so used to his style of speech that I miss stuff like this) and suggests IG talk about the game itself instead of finding ways to include jokes.

Chris' response was... awful

Wow, the guy offers real criticism without insulting you and you just say "That's the show asshole, screw you for telling me to change it". Also, when was this "always" the show? In the past you at least attempted to "review" the game, now it's just jokes. It's nothing but jokes. You're full of it Bores.
Oh, but that's nothing compared to the next comment.

Over on Facebook from Mario Mario, who also happens to be Facebook friends with Chris, he asks Chris to go back to bad games. Understandable, Chris bashing on classics is boring and terrible.

Chris' response is in this IMGUR page.
Thanks to Rick Lee for spotting this.

For those that don't want to click it. Bores tells him that plenty of people already review bad games and "[his] opinion is pointless"

Wow... fuck you Chris. You're outright telling a fan that you don't care what he thinks. That is video maker suicide. And you wonder why you're losing viewers? That is DSP levels of awful. At least Chris isn't making 30 minute videos crying about his views..
Also this comment showcases that Geoff Mendicino (the baseball hat douchebag at the end of the Kung-Fu review) is a complete asshole. I've known about Geoff for years, he's a notorious troll and it's best to ignore him.

So what are you going to do Chris? Are you going to log in to LadyBuggin777 and cry and bitch and moan about how I'm the worst person in the world? You can't hide from this stuff forever Chris, you have to face up to it someday.

  1. I didn't even know there was such a thing as an Amazon review bot.

Hey, Chris! Since you claimed to be very religious why don't you tell us what religion condones attempting to trick people put of their money?

  2. Bot thing surprises me too, cause as far as I knew to write a review the person had to had bought at least one thing on Amazon.

  3. I don't know if this is relevant or not, but this Geoff guy, who is known as "Geoff the Hero" on his YouTube channel, uploaded Chris's ENTIRE Kung Fu "review" to his channel and said that he was featured in it in the title of this reuploaded video. In the description, he said that he didn't know why he was featured in this latest video, as he had not talked to Chris in a while. I'd provide a link, but the video now seems to be gone from his channel. Maybe Chris was upset that Geoff basically stole his entire video (gee, irony much, Bores?). Trust me, it was definitely there though.

    1. Geoff is a good guy, I've known him (not well, but I used to publish for one of his websites years & years back) but he is a huge "troll", or prankster. He used to know/work with Mega64 as the site admin before they got as big as they are today.

He can be an ass, but in a self aware "I'm doing this for laughs" kind of way unlike Bores who is a genuine asshole that isn't aware that he is the punchline of a joke no-one really found funny to begin with.

  4. Jesus Christ, Keith Janksi. This is the last time I am going to say this. Take down that fucking 5-star pity review you wrote for Bores's book on Amazon. I don't care if it was "just trolling" or if "you wanted to see how he would react." He knows you wrote it and that it's not genuine, because you admitted that you wrote it as a joke here on this blog that he himself reads along with all the comments. There's no point keeping it up there at this point. If you even care that Bores is basically committing a crime just to make his book look good, you would delete that fucking "review" you made for his garbage book so that the rating for it would come even the tiniest bit closer to what its quality truly is. In fact, if anyone here agrees with me that Keith should take down his "review," please reply to this comment saying that you agree.

    1. Stop it Hunter.
Let Keith live with what he did.
If anything, this proves that Chris can only get 5-star reviews out of pity or if he cheats.

    2. Yeah, you're right. It ultimately doesn't matter if Keith's review stays up there or not anyway, as Amazon may take Bores's book off of their website very soon when they find out that he's breaking the law just to make his book look good. I apologize to Keith, the other members of the blog, and to you, BatDan. It just bothers me so much that there's so much bogus on that book's page right now.

Btw, at this point in time, 2 new 5-star reviews were written about his book today. One is from an account that actually looks legit, and the other one is a VERY short review written by someone named "G Walker" who has chosen to hide all activity. Chris never learns, does he?

    3. I tried to take it down but I couldn't force myself to do it. I think it's too funny. Is it really that big of a deal Hunter? Besides, I wanted to see if Chris is desperate enough to use it as a bragging tool.

    1. Yeah, it's shit like this that leads to Skynet becoming self-aware and sending a T101 back in time to kill Sarah Connor. It's one thing to bash great NES games for petty reasons; but it's pretty abysmal to try and salvage his book this way (especially since the site started as a bookstore and is one of the largest ones in the world). As an English major myself, I think his schedule slip from his own set schedule has now officially been replaced as my tentative worst moment of the year.

  6. Does Amazon have like a tech support email address or something? Maybe we could ask them if there is a way to report things like this. And if we do, do you think Chris could possibly get in legal trouble? I hope so. He can't keep getting away with this shit.

    1. I'm not sure, but it is entirely possible to tell them that a review is inaccurate and misleading when you tell them it's unhelpful. I know; I just came across some guy bashing DBZ Butoden (a Dragon Ball game by Arc System Works; the people behind Guilty Gear and BlazBlue) and other users set him straight for obviously troll tactics (specifically, claiming that Dragon Ball is a Pokémon ripoff despite Dragon Ball predating Pokémon by at least a decade, and one being martial-arts focused and the other being a monster-collecting series; both varying wildly in presentation and tone). It's not the first time online shopping reviews have been abused and lacking in credibility, and knowing Boring Man; it won't be the last.

    4. @Dynamite. He's unwittingly outed himself in conversation posing as Linda more than once; in addition to having the same vernacular, typing syntax and IP address as LadyBuggin. That's not even getting into brazenly stealing Power Rangers footage and putting it on a DVD when he clearly doesn't have the rights to it the way Toei and Saban do (not to mention Viacom as part of their partnership with Nickelodeon). I personally don't see any point in him trying to "hide his tracks" anymore.

I'm guessing the reason neither of them have posted here is because they know they can't delete our comments.

I thought, even with the poor writing and reused ideas being called revolutionary etc, the book might do well for its niche. 15. I don't normally comment on places like this, but there's something I just want to point out. It just really, really bothers me.

Chris Bores always claims he's a religious person. I'm going to flat out say it: He's NOT a Christian. If you constantly lie and scam people, you are not behaving like a Christian. Honestly, people like Chris who do heinous things and use the "I'm a religious person" excuse to gain sympothy just give a bad name to actual Christians.

Sorry, being an actual Christian myself l, I just had to get that out. Chris' "I'm a Christian guys, really!" claims are just as bad as his "I'm a gamer guys, really!" claims.

  19. Right off the bat attempting to read this book; I have found yet another problem. He cites Philip Imbrogno as a catalyst for his pursuit in 2009; when in 2011, he withdrew from the field of paranormal investigation after it was found out he faked his credentials and was subsequently accused of fraud. I Googled his name; and there were multiple results that confirmed this. So, not only is Chris using a text that has debunked from various testimonials as a legitimate source; he's citing a man that's been discredited from the field he claims is his primary focus. In the words of Peter Venkman, "This man has no dick."

    ReplyDelete

    1. Um, the "no dick" thing is hitting below the belt (no pun intended) and is a little harsh/immature.
I think a more appropriate Ghostbusters quote for this situation would be from Dean Yager, "Your theories are the worst kind of popular tripe, your methods are sloppy, and your conclusions are highly questionable. You are a poor scientist."
      Well, except the "popular" part.

    2. Thank you Dave. I'll have to remember that one; especially as Boring Man's book has as big research canyons (we're long past holes, Chris) as his talk about old video games. Even another Artistic License History of Video Games (wherein he'll claim the console is a piece of crap by modern standards and all the games suck via Family Guy skits) probably won't top this snafu; which has now officially passed his inability to keep a set schedule for himself as my tentative worst moment for this year.

    3. @Realshow. Exactly. I was diagnosed with Asperger's when I was little; and even if Bores is on the spectrum, he honestly doesn't represent me with all the terrible things he's done; many of which are far greater pet peeves of mine with him than merely ripping off "you-know-who."

      Delete
    4. I think I've said this before here on the blog, but I too am on the autism spectrum. I have a learning disorder similar to Asperger's, so I'm probably fairly low on the spectrum. And I also can't stand it when people use the word "autistic" to insult someone, whether the person is as bad as Bores or not.

      Delete
    5. Guys, don't get it wrong. I'm not saying autistic people are bad. There are a lot of great people out there who have autism and have done amazing things really. But Chris' constant inability to learn from his mistakes, his awkward and stilted acting, and his social withdrawal from people only leads me to speculate he has autism, a worse type may I add.

But who knows? I can't say for certain. Make of it as you wish.

      Delete
    6. Autism is just a word to describe people who lack social skills. It's not a virus like AIDS because autism can be get rid of within time. I know many people who had autism in the past, but are now better people today and now able to express themselves more to the public.

      Delete
    7. Well, the inability to learn from mistakes and poor acting might just be another example of his ego. He probably thinks his acting and stuff is really good so he doesn't have to change. The social withdrawal could be explained by the fact that he is not a real gamer, and probably doesn't know just how many people are doing it, remember his JewWario post? ''There aren't many of us left''? Or the times he has been asked to list reviewers that he liked and would say really old ones?

  23. OT: Am I the only one disappointed by the Yo-Kai Watch demo after playing it? Given how I didn't like the anime; I was hoping the game would be the part of the franchise that could change my mind about it. No such luck. While the presentation is slick and the mechanics are competent; they're also a tad simplistic for my tastes. Barring the occasional quicktime event or minigame; all the combat is on autopilot, to the point where I've very rarely lost any battles even putting in the bare minimum of effort. On top of that, the game often constantly tells you what to do next; which dampers a lot of potential strategy or puzzle-solving (the most difficulty I had was trying to keep the Yo-Kai Lens on Cadin; and that was because of a shaky bus ride home). Worst of all, the demo cuts off after the Dismerella battle; as opposed to the one for OR/AS showing off the updated mechanics as well as granting you bonuses for the full game. I may not hate the game like I do the anime; but I'm sure not convinced enough to pay full retail price on day one when it might fare better as an eShop title for a $20 spot or less. Not with Ni No Kuni from the same developer already out here and better. Finally, I was hoping that I could play as Katie; but it makes you play as Nate, a character the anime essentially ruined for me. With the dub being a total mess; I can say that any murmurs of it being "the next Pokémon" have now been officially overstated.

    1. I downloaded the Yo-Kai Watch demo yesterday, and I have mixed feelings about it as well. Before I begin, let me just say I am in no way a Pokemon fanboy, and while playing YW, I kept an open mind about it.

One problem I had was the battle sequence. At first, I didn't know Yo-Kai would automatically battle, as I thought you had to choose a command before attacking. I will say this though. I did enjoy the "Soultimate" attacks, as it had a WarioWare feel to it. However, the "Purify" and "Target" choices felt useless to me. I also didn't like objective in the demo. For example, I found many Yo-Kai and defeated them in battle, yet I still had to find 1 more Yo-Kai. One of the things I did like were the visuals. I'm not one to judge a game by graphics, but the graphics in YW were much more brighter and somewhat realistic than Pokemon.

As for the anime, I have yet to see it, but I've heard mixed feelings towards it. Some people say it's good (with praise going to Whisper's voice), others say it got chopped up for an American audience. I know Johnny Yong Bosch voices Nate in the dub, but as much as I respect JYB and enjoy his work, his child voice can get old (it doesn't help either that he also uses the same voice for Noby from Doraemon, which by the way, airs on the SAME network YW does). I did hear that a porn joke was in the dub, but I have yet to confirm that.

Will Yo-Kai Watch be the next Pokemon? No. Does it have potential? Maybe. Like I said earlier, I enjoy Pokemon, but can agree that the games have problems, like post-game content and the story being loose at points. I might pick up YW when it goes down in price. All I can say though is that good luck to YW, and hopefully you can become popular and not be forgotten.

"If you didn’t know that Chris Bores once had the 55th most subscribed channel on all of YouTube, don’t worry. He will mention it no fewer than three times in Ghost Hunting 2.0"

Holy Jesus he actually put this non achievement as part of his credentials in there ? Like, seriously ?

I mean, it's bad enough where he's so openly arrogant that he calls his book "X 2.0" but to do that while having to scrape the empty space of the five mile deep cavern you dug below the bottom of the barrel to dig up anything you've accomplished ? This is just sad.

    1. That is my review you are quoting. Yes, at three separate points in the book Chris mentions he once had the 55th most subscribed channel on all of YouTube.

Unlike the bulk of the profiles which gave Ghost Hunoting 2.0 5 stars, I actually read the entire book.

    2. Do you remember a single instance of that ? Cause I'd love to see in what way he brings this momentous achievement up.

    3. Off the top of my head...

In chapter 5 he discusses how being the 55th most subscribed channel on YouTube gave him responsibilities such as interviewing video game developers. Apparently his interviewing skills helped him in his conversations with spirits. He also discussed how he would be frustrated while watching ghost hunt shows on TV because he felt they weren't qualified and had no game plan if they did happen to make con tact with a spirit.

In the "About the Author" section he brings up how he once had the 55th most subscribed YouTube channel. I am a bit fuzzy on the third occurrence

  37. Oh and apparently the entire book was readable in the Amazon preview according to Constantino Rivas Rangel.

So people could read the whole thing without Bores getting a dime off it.

Ironic considering his love of ripping off others and using other people's copyrighted material for his own profit.

    1. No it isn't the entire book, it skips pages but a good portion and enough to gauge the poor quality.

    2. The amount of pages previewed changed several times immediately after it was published.
For at least a couple hours, it was the entire book. I didn't read it, but I browsed the pages and checked the page numbers, it actually went all the way from beginning to end. I was trying to see if I could be saved as a PDF so I could "preview" the book on a plane trip a few days later, but while searching for the ability/legality I refreshed the Amazon page and about half the book was gone from the preview.
I think about a week later, even more pages disappeared from the preview. I think it's been that way since.

    3. Just going by what the reviewer said, as I didn't see a preview.

      Looking at it now.

First page, he's missing a word. FIRST PAGE.

    4. The bad grammar, misspellings are intentional according to Chris.

He prefers the less "political correct" (his words not mine) way of writing.

More proof the reviews praising the book are utter bullshit.

    5. I wonder how the hell Bores confuses political with grammatical. Oh yeah, its because he is a genius. If he can invent a new form of psychology and reinvent ghost hunting, I suppose he has the power alter the definition of political correctness.

  41. Another 5 star review went up. Typically devoid of substance and the profile is filled with cheap crap from companies begging for reviews. Even that Vassar brand dog collar is on there with two other collars from Petiner.

  42. Look at the dates of each 5-star review. Most of them are submitted on the same day. About 8 5-star reviews are posted on October 21st.

Totally nawt suspicious at all! Derp, derp!

If I ever get a reply to this, I was wondering where the clip where the guy says "Therefore it's the game fault that I suck at it!" comes from. I have no idea who that is, what game he's playing, or what series (if it is a series) that is. Great video by the way.

    1. That's the Third Rate Gamer, he makes the best Irate Gamer parodies. He stopped doing videos mainly because he stopped caring about Bores & AVGN but he still comments from time to time. I remember seeing him comment on Bores's terrible Coming Out video and even he didn't buy it and asked for evidence.

    3. Watching his riff of the Artistic License History of Video Games on Atari's 1978-80 lineup. Still astonished at how he couldn't find a Superman shirt in the time he allegedly spent working on it (typing this in my Man of Steel variant shirt, by the way). Also, a bunch of pixels isn't exactly Margot Kidder or Amy Adams; or even Kate Bosworth. Even as a man who considers Superman IV: The Quest for Peace to be the American version of Puma Man; even Cannon Films would call Boring Man lazy.

  51. If this trend continues it will soon reach peak ridiculousness. I presume that the original "Ronnie" review was intended to satirize the fact that one of Chris' paid reviews was just as viable as one written by one of his fictional characters; in both cases the coveted five star rating was a gilded one obtained under false pretenses.

  55. Holy shit, a 1-star review for the book actually popped up, and it's really spot on too:

"Kindle Unlimited was offering the book free of charge so I went ahead and dove in. I’ll give Chris some credit in that he has an interesting viewpoint on the afterlife. Unfortunately he presents his views as fact instead of conjecture. Often times praising his own work and not realizing how arrogant that comes across. I get that you’re trying to sell yourself, but once the product is in someone’s hands pull it back a little.

All of the investigations described in the book are conducted with several crew members. However you only get Chris’ side of the story and his interpretations. It’d be interesting to get the other investigators to recount their experiences and help broaden the scope of the book.

The book also really needs an editor to fine tune it. Grammar issues plague the text and make it difficult to digest. It’s also annoying to read the author complain about how the paranormal field isn’t elevating itself when he sprinkles unnecessary referential humor into his own book (“my spidey senses are tingling!”).

Bores is clearly passionate about ghost hunting, but his own ego holds him back. If he could learn some humility and open himself up to help and differing viewpoints, he might actually be able to accomplish some feats. As it currently stands Ghost Hunting 2.0 isn’t going to rock your worldview nor is it even a coherent guidebook. In reality it’s a glance into the mind of a person trying to create relevancy in a fading field."

I just love how the writer of this review, Crystal Weston Chandler, says that Bores's ego is the reason he can't accomplish any feats. If he wasn't so full of himself, he could take criticism and use it to actually improve his work rather than just leave it in its same shitty state just because he's afraid to admit that he's wrong/can make mistakes/can always do better.

    ReplyDelete
  56. That was a great review and I am surprised that Crystal was so forthright. Her other reviews are often WTF moments.
