A Dimensional Shopping List for Stupid People

Really Chris? I just put up a post yesterday, and here you are already putting up a video. Did you just have this waiting in your hard drive for the chance to strike? Also, you posted videos on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. You don’t give a fuck about your schedule do you?

Anyway, here’s the Lego Dimensions review he promised in that awful comparison video. It’s 11:18 long… fuuuuuuuck
Likes are high, but the views are low. The video’s been up for 14 hours as of this typing and there’s only a little over 2000 views. Sounds like the fans are so sick of the toys, they don’t even bother to click the video to even dislike it.

It’s a Neo episode so the intro is there.

0:06 - 2:15: “I know it’s been out for a couple months now” Couple = Four? Also, when the fuck has that stopped you Bores?
He’s repeating what he said in the comparison video about getting “burned” by Disney Infinity and amiibo. So is that why your amiibo blog is dead? Again, you should have done research!
The brief footage he shows indicates this is either on PS3 or PS4. He doesn’t seem to specify.
“I want to get into all the aspects” Spoiler alert: He does not do this.
Going over the story, mentioning the Gateway. “Plug it into whatever game device you use” Console. It’s called a console you pleb.
Lot of captain obvious stuff, like having to build everything, the fact you get instructions, yeah I’m sure anyone over the age of 3 could have figured that out.
Mentions that the vehicle and gadget instructions are in-game only (holy crap an actual game flaw), then says the story really hooked him in the first couple minutes. “When it does that you know you’ve got a good game” Naaah *looks at Fallout 4* Hooks you in, but it ends up laaaame.

2:16 - 4:38: Gushing about the worlds, how Lego has so many. Too bad about Marvel and Star Wars huh? Thanks Disney Infinity!
Lists off the franchises… a couple he lists off he implies were already made by Lego before, specifically Back to the Future and Ghostbusters. I bring this up because he makes sure to note the new franchises like Doctor Who, Midway Arcade, Portal, and The Wizard Oz. All the other franchises have had toys or games, the six I mentioned here did not. You really should do research Chris.
“A list of others that will be showing up in the future” No love Chima or Ninjago? Some Lego fan you are.
More about the worlds… this review has been mostly listing shit.
“Now I haven’t played through the entire game just yet” Stop! We have another review that is now considered null & void because he didn’t beat the game. Seriously Chris? The game has been out since September.
Oh, he’s “savoring” it because not everyone is out. That’s not an excuse! You can beat the entire game with just the starter characters. Also by that logic, you would never be able to beat/review it because there’s still more and more packs coming. 12 have been announced for the future (five of them coming out January 19th).
He goes over the three types of packs… blah blah blah…
Oh, so he DOES know you only need the starter characters! You’re so full of it Chris…
He mentions people’s issues with the price, all he says is to check stores for sales. Are you going to explain how much these normally cost without sale prices and why people are turned off? Level Packs are $30, Team Packs are $25, and Fun Packs are $15. Considering that as of this posting there are 4 Level Packs ($120), 3 Team Packs ($75), and 19 Fun Packs ($285!), it all really adds up. Even with sales prices it’s still not cheap.

4:39- 7:47: “I’m a big proponent of Skylanders” Weird word to use…
7 characters at once, blah blah blah blah… can’t level up… how about talking about the gameplay itself?
Mentions the voice acting, only giving a few examples. No mention of both Troy Baker & Will Arnett as Batman? Implying he knows who Troy Baker is…
He mentions the fucking Chris Pratt thing again! Does he think his viewers have goldfish memories? Actually, why don’t you show the line? Show the scene? You’re recording footage (surprisingly, not with his camera). Show, don’t tell.
Also, no mention of the weirdness involving The Simpsons levels and characters? The only voice actor they could get was Dan Castellaneta, and even then they technically didn’t get him. All of Homer’s lines are taken from the show. The stage you get when you purchase him is a recreation of the season 8 episode The Mysterious Voyage of Homer, where he spends a chunk of it alone. The only other voice is the Coyote played by Johnny Cash, using dialogue from the episode (obviously they couldn’t get new dialogue as Cash passed away years ago). I watched a video online and everyone else is silent, including Marge and it just looks weird. Looking into it, there are other Castellaneta characters that speak like Krusty, Mayor Quimby, Groundskeeper Willie, and Hans Moleman, but they’re all taken from the show. No mention on any of this Chris?

He brings up the Gateway’s interactivity. Probably the most he’ll say about the gameplay.
More listing… this time about vehicles. Says some are stupid, but won’t mention which ones. Elaborate!
IG goes on about how lazy he is by not fully putting the Hoverboard together. You’re doing it wrong!

7:48 - 10:37: MORE LISTING!
I’m surprised he didn’t bring up his review when he mentioned Spy Hunter in the upcoming Midway Arcade Level Pack
He gushes about how “cool” it is to have a Ghostbuster playing Marty McFly. God, he just can’t stop fellating the 80’s can he? You know Chris, not everything about the 80’s was perfect. The HIV scare, rampant drug use, the Libyan Hostage Situation, the first George Bush. I grew up in the 90’s, but I don’t worship that decade. I will acknowledge there was a lot of crap and a lot of horrible things that happened. Don’t act like it was all roses and smiles.
“If you’re a child of the 80’s like I am” FUCK! I’m adding that to the drinking game.
He begins talking about the levels that come with the Level Packs.
“The storyline contains Doctor Who, that is in the middle of an attack” Wait, is he calling the main character Doctor Who? He’s called The Doctor. Yeah, he’s not a fucking fan. So full of it.
He doesn’t mention that the Simpsons level is a reenactment of The Mysterious Voyage of Homer. Come on, it’s so obvious!
Of course he never played Portal 2! Why would the so called gamer play one of the most important puzzle games of the last decade? Pfffffkl;aejrtg;klkjdragl;kgkl;
Oh and the Portal 2 level is his least favorite because it makes no sense and the music is weird. Fuck you! You have no right to call yourself a gamer anymore Chris. Change your name!
“Play it yourself, you’ll probably come to the same conclusion” No! I actually played Portal 2, I would probably love it! You are a sack of crap.
He says his least favorite character if the ACU Trooper from Jurassic World. Claims he wouldn’t have bought him if he wasn’t packed with Owen Grady. Bullshit, you probably would have bought him anyway. That’s how completionists work. Unless you’re lying about being a completionist, which you probably are.

Video ends with overall thoughts.
“The gameplay is solid” So solid that you barely mention it!
“Getting new characters to play in this game is a lot of fun” Nothing more fun than buying something!
“I wish Disney Infinity was like that but man they really missed the boat” … It’s called Disney Infinity! They’re only going to include franchises they own! How stupid are you?! It’s like some ignorant manchild wanting Captain N or the Doki Doki Panic cast to be amiibo. Nintendo doesn’t own those characters!

Ugh, video over.

Despite some really stupid moments, it was just boring overall. A lot of the “review” was just listing shit. He barely goes into gameplay, and he calls everything cool or confusing. This isn’t how you review.
And the worst part is that some people in the comments say he’s “finally got it right”. No he hasn’t! How about watching some real reviews, just search YouTube you’ll find them easily.

*sighs* Why does my head hurt…

  2. By jove, we've got another bad one to top 2015's infamy; and it looks like Boring Man is going out of his way to make 2016 an even bigger mess. I'll have to think more about this game; since I personally consider many of the Lego games made by Traveler's Tales to be some of the big aversions of the problem with licensed games. I'm definitely not a completionist (nor am I a fan of Ninjago or Chima; though I can at least appreciate what they're trying to do); but I consider his assessment of the Doctor Who pack, as Matt Smith's Eleven put it: "Four buses, a long walk and a cab ride from good!" If Chris did play Portal 2; I imagine it would turn out like iJustine's infamous Let's Play (plus the wouldn't understand the game's humor at all). I also lived through the '90s; but I've never understood the obsession over one time period when each one has its ups and downs (like the ones you mentioned about the 80s). It makes one look like some insufferable hipster; or the South Park episode "You're Getting Old". I know this since my 24th birthday is tomorrow; and I plan to keep enjoying life as I mock Chris and others who seem to be unable or unwilling to adapt to a changing landscape. See you Tuesday, Dan.

  3. I have to put ICBIND on hiatus until things get better for me. I'm anticipating resuming next month and I'll catch up on any retro game review, HOVG, or I Rate the 80's during that time. So far, all I need to do is the Intellivision one.

    2. Take all the time you need; dude. That entry in the Artistic License History of Video Games may not have been the worst; but still has the same problems of canyons in research and bullshit Family Guy sketches that have plagued the videos since that series went HD (not to mention the HD reversionings of prior episodes that still contain the same mistakes as the SD ones).

  4. Mate, you gotta admit he's getting a little better....you can't really ask MUCH of Bores, at least it was informative enough for anyone who never played it. And about Portal 2, I also played it and love it, but Bores has the right to say he didn't like it.

    1. No, he doesn't. He's a fucking dumbass and at least needs to assume that a lot of other people (real gamers) will like it.

    2. He has the right to dislike Portal and to say so, but if a game critic can't articulate his problem with a modern masterpiece, it's a weird, off-putting moment that sticks way out and makes the viewer wonder where this guy's coming from. Hey Bores, how about a video explaining Portal's shortcomings as you see them? Because your comment is as odd as a lifelong fan of British-invasion rock parenthetically dropping "never cared for the Beatles" into a sentence and moving on like something normal has been communicated.

      Delete
    3. Exactly. What kind of critic can't pin down what he doesn't like about something? The irony is doing a video explaining how Portal 'has its share of flawls' might net him more views, and he probably wouldn't understand the backlash.

  5. Chris is nearing his 500th video. How much do y'all wanna bet that he boasts about it in some way?

After nine years, Chris still hasn't even done 50 Irate gamer episodes. Yes, he does other types of videos, but the Irate Gamer is the only real reason that people even know about him. How sad.

    1. I dunno; he only made a video to celebrate his 200th video because James Rolfe did the same in 2008. Unless a "Cinemassacre 500" video comes out really soon it's hard to see Bores making the creative leap.

    2. I don't know, but I wouldn't put it past him. Hell, I just cracked my 800th video with my look at The Room; and that was something I had to consider for quite some time before I went through with it. Naturally, the next video was kind of a breather in an unboxing and talking about the Amiibo craze. Sorry if I'm editorializing, but there was a mix-up with my package; and it won't be here till Monday (my Amazon order was going to be handled by FedEx; but they changed it to local mail the moment it got to town. Why that happened is beyond me.).

But as for this review, he just doesn't care anymore, does he?

  7. The 80s also had a lot of people breaking into homes searching for crack cocaine.

Penn & Teller did a Bullshit episode about "The Good Old Days", making fun of people who celebrate a decade or time period they may or may not have grown up in but wish they did, including the renaissance.

    ReplyDelete
  8. I can tolerate Chris gushing so much about the 80's and barely talking about the gameplay.

But he doesn't like Portal 2? He calls himself a gamer but doesn't like Portal 2, one of the greatest video games of all time?!?!?! NOOO!!! DOES NOT COMPUTE! DOES NOT COMPUTE!

    ReplyDelete
  9. Blast it all, Bores! Does this lout even like using his brain? I get to thinking he doesn't like using it. Portal 2! Even though I've never touched it, I know it's a bit of a brain tickler, so it's the stark contrast to the kind of thing Bores enjoys.

But I digress. I must ask all you gents and ladies, but what is it about Fallout 4 that is such a "disappointment"? I don't have it myself as I lack a computer hardy enough to challenge it, but I've spent hours watching one of my friends go at it and found it to be terrific. I can't say I like the PC's limited responses--Fallout's strength has always been its wide variety of dialogue--but I can't help but get the feeling I'm missing something.

As a rule, however, saying the graphics aren't up to par is not a good enough reason.

    ReplyDelete

    1. From what I've heard, there weren't many big improvements from Fallout 3, and it's on the same engine as Fallout 3. Oh, and once again, your choices of dialogue make little to no impact.

      Delete
    2. From my experience, they upped the number of baddies you fight at any given time, new enemies, Death Claws are even worse to deal with, and now you have a settlement to take care of. Oh and POWER ARMOR that has me in oodles of glee! The power armor is now more like a hulking human tank than the "heavy" armor that it was in Fallout 3. Get in one of those and you feel like Iron Man. Or, more accurately, War Machine.

As for the engine...hm. I suppose it's a more polished version of what they had before. Though what isn't broken doesn't need fixing, I think. The dialogue, though.......they did worse. It's a bit off putting.

    1. I've seen a few commercials since my family got cable; regardless of what I'm watching. I gather it's selling OK; but I'm relatively new to the whole "toys-to-life" type of video game. While I admit the cost will be a bit pricey in the long term (apart from what's already out now, Lego has confirmed there's a contingency for more expansion sets); the whole thing does look interesting, and Traveler's Tales has helped past Lego games they worked on avoid the usual problem with licensed games. I'm not a completionist, but I admit quite a few of the packs look pretty cool. I haven't seen Capaldi's run on Doctor Who yet; but any game that has BBC's long-running period sci-fi show as an expansion is fine by me. As for Portal 2: just because Chris is a moron who doesn't get why people love the game doesn't mean I can't enjoy that expansion (I haven't played the Portal games yet, but I want to.). I still think if Boring Man tried it; it would be like iJustine's much-reviled Let's Play.

    3. I believe so, Keith. I keep wondering if it's peaked every time there's a project that relies on it and is disappointing (which is a key reason why people hate Pixels; though not the only one, having just come off watching the Nostalgia Critic's review of the movie), and I'm also noticing that '90s nostalgia seems to be in the process of taking its place. I personally don't get the glorification of any one time period; since it often makes people look like insufferable hipsters. Personally, I like the idea of taking the bad with the good in each time; something that Chris doesn't seem to understand each time he rocks off to his growing up in the Reagan era.

    10. Back on the topic of nostalgia, I swear Bores is the most uncritical reviewer of 80s media. At least Cinemassacre or TGWTG videos about 80s media have some kind of balance between nostalgic value and actual value, and Bores just bangs on about how much he loves stuff from that time period. He may as well call his sideshow 'Fellate the 80s'.

  19. Nintendo actually does own the characters originating from Captain N. Though it's possible that they're owned by Nintendo's American branch instead of the Japanese branch that actually produces the games (like with Sega and the Sonic SatAM characters).

AFAIK, the only Doki Doki Panic characters/elements Nintendo doesn't own are the four playable characters (and maybe the designs of some objects and items), since they're from Fuji TV's Dream Factory festival.

    1. Yeah, while having Kevin as a wild card fighter in the new Super Smash Bros. may have been fun for me to imagine in many ways; clearing the red tape may have been too much for Sakurai or Namco/Bandai or whoever. Least I can make a custom Mii fighter in his stead (same deal with the Doki Doki Panic characters).

    2. I thought DIC owned the original Captain N characters? Or rather DHX Media as they own DIC now.

Yeah, I knew the main four character of Doki Doki Panic were owned by Fuji TV. Hence why it would be difficult for Nintendo to use them.

Really though, I was just making fun of Moviebob's idiotic "amiibo I want to exist" video, where he lists only like 3 or 4 legit possibilities and a bunch of impossible ones like Hudson Soft characters (and Hudson Soft is owned by Konami and Konami are fucking awful at the moment so it won't happen)

      Delete
    3. Well, Nintendo licensed the Captain N comics from Valiant, DiC had nothing to do with that.

DHX Media does own the film copyright to all the Captain N episodes (same with all of DiC's video game cartoons, save the Darkstalkers one, which I'd imagine is owned by Capcom), but not the characters.

      Delete
    4. That's interesting.
That being said, I don't see Nintendo ever using Captain N for anything. They're not going to put him in Smash, or make an amiibo out of him.

And I don't see Nintendo making figures out of characters from Saban's Acclaim-oriented clone of Captain N, The Power Team, either.

    2. Most likely after that next; as well as the 3-pack with the Boy, Girl, and Squid. I also just got the Mewtwo and Roy DLC; and I'm getting pretty good with them (their playstyle is largely the same from Melee; though they have gained new Final Smashes after sitting Brawl out). I also got Blaster Master and Earthbound Beginnings on Virtual Console; as I'm working on building my collection of games. While I wasn't planning on getting the rare figures first; I know how competitive vying for those orders can be, so I wasted no time in going after my favorite Pokémon and ones that stood out among the shipment my Walmart got in (my console came with a Modern Pixel Mario, so I got a Classic Pixel Mario to go with it; and a Mewtwo among a host of Animal Crossing figures that will probably keep for a while). One thing I've noticed since the whole thing started is that shipping patterns in my area are totally schizo, not to mention where I live has been slow to take to the whole "toys-to-life" type of game; regardless of whether it's younger players or folks like me. That said, Mega Man is definitely on my list (I gather they're releasing a gold variant for the 30th anniversary this year; like they did with Mario).

  22. The holidays were especially rough for my family and I this year. Things are just starting to settle down. I haven’t gotten online very often, mostly just for work. Looks like I have some catching up to do.

I just read the worst of 2015 list and I think something major was left off. Bores Got Duped. His Side of the Irate Gamer Game. Bores talked about the disaster of a game he inspired/endorsed, and it’s disappearance. The part of this that I think should have been on the list was that the real reason he could bring it up was to sell Geoff Hassing’s artwork, even signing it, without giving Geoff any credit, and even deleting Geoff’s comments when he asked to be credited.

Anyway, I’m taking a break this evening. I was going to delete some videos of an abandoned project of mine, but thought maybe I’d share it on my blog instead.

But, then again, Bores probably doesn't know that history and called The Doctor "Doctor Who" out of pure ignorance.

Like I squeed when I saw Four, Six and Twelve. And the attention to detail like the change in the music with each interior. And I think even Four's interior was that like wood paneled sub control room from like the 15th season? The one in the first season with Leela? Like that's awesome! Bores didn't say shit about that I'm sure.

  26. Semi-related; but CinemaSins just put up their take on Pixels, and their 12th sin essentially points out the fatal flaw with the plot; and one of the many reasons I didn't go. So here's more ammo to mock Chris for being one of the few people that liked one of the biggest flops of 2015, international monies and DVD/Blu-Ray sales notwithstanding. I hope that if Nintendo really is interested in getting directly involved with making movies like some are saying; they stay as far away from this bomb as possible. Admittedly, the Warcraft movie actually looks good (it helps that Duncan Jones managed to successfully integrate video game motifs into Moon and Source Code; and the teaser seems to send the message that he knows the source material and cares about it); and Sony's Ratchet and Clank movie looks to capture the game's humor and have many of the key actors from the game reprise their roles (especially in the case of Patrick Warburton as Captain Quark). Overall, though, live-action ones still need a lot of work; and I've found animated ones have usually fared better with me (the Sonic the Hedgehog OVA; the numerous Pokémon films, Final Fantasy VII Advent Children Complete; and especially Wreck-it Ralph). Anyway; guess I'll deal with Boring Man's lousy Ghostbusters RP disguised as "education" as it comes.

  27. Looks like the "sale" on "Ghost Hunting 2.0" is over. Amazon is now listing it at it's full price of $199.99

The cheapest new copy is $145.85, making the cheapest used copy even more expensive at $175.96

The most expensive seller wants $226.49, new.

At least the Kindle version is still only $5.99

    1. I figured it was just Bores trying to trick Amazon's "deal of the day" mechanic since his book would appear as being over 90% off. The timed sale ran out and it automatically reverted to the fake 'real' price of $199.99

This morning, I saw that the sale price had been manually updated to $149.99. I was going to screen shot it just now, and I see it's been manually updated again to $159.99, sometime in the last two hours.

Both of those price changes took conscious effort on Bores's part. He actually believes his book is worth $150-160 dollars.

Well, it looks like the 20th anniversary of Pokémon has officially been set in motion; with a bevy of content and associated wares being rolled out over the coming year; including the New 3DS with the Virtual Console versions of Red and Blue preloaded into it. Glad I waited for anything like that before I made any decision to upgrade my unit (which I got when X and Y launched in 2013, and it's seen a bit of mileage since then). I'll have to see how much my model will count towards the new one; and I will be holding on to my power bricks for it (seriously guys; can you be a friend and include them with the new ones sometime?). As I expected, it will definitely be one of many reasons this year will be great for video games no matter what Chris does. #Pokémon20 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mlcckRrhaNQ&feature=youtu.be

I personally find their new movie Zootopia to be greater niche pandering in a year that's seeing them handle Captain America Civil War, Doctor Strange; Star Wars Rogue One, and Moana (seriously guys; why all the promotion of tedious sloth DMV gags and almost nothing on a South Pacific princess film?). I can't really be too hard on a guy that I've never watched when the same company is distributing a movie that looks incredibly overhyped in my eyes (I saw the trailers each time I went to see Episode VII; I thought they looked boring).

  32. So, what does everyone think of this new fan campaign to get Mother 3 officially released on Nintendo eShop here? I'm personally onboard with the idea; as I'm enjoying Earthbound Beginnings so far, having started it on Virtual Console; and I do plan on getting the download voucher for Earthbound very soon. Any given day; I can often count at least 5 Wii U games I want, but it always ends with that. The fact the Virtual Console release has sold incredibly well definitely means there's an audience for the games here; and one fan group has even said they'll give NOA their translation if they want it.

    2. Good points; even if the idea is intriguing for an official release stateside (as the 64DD's failure kept that from happening and from the peripheral itself from being released here too). Also; the presence of Ness and Lucas in the Super Smash Bros. series can definitely generate interest among people who may not be aware of the series (like it has with the Fire Emblem games).

    3. I stopped watching power rangers after Zeo. I did catch a few episodes of Turbo and Space, but gave up after. The Japanese Sentai versions are WAY better in my opinion, at least with the series that aired after 2000. It's funny because MMPR is superior to the original ZyuRanger in my opinion (I thought ZyuRanger was overall boring and focused way too much on bratty kids), but after a while the Japanese Sentai series became superior to the American counterparts, ironically because they're closer to being like the original MMPR than the newer Power Rangers series are as far as character focus and humor goes.

    4. Yes, I'm very surprised to find how the source material manages to tell unique stories that are distinct from what they're adapted into. In particular; I'm liking how Zyuranger has elements of caste systems and power struggles at certain points, and how Bandora is meaner in many ways than Rita was. Also; the backlog I've got going (since it predates PR by at least 16 years) helps me be prepared for the breaks that have unfortunately become common in the New Saban era (it's highly likely that I could finish Go-Busters and Kyoryuger by the time Dino Supercharge; to say nothing of starting Tokkyuger and Ninninger before Ninja Steel in 2017). I must admit; the quality has gone up, down, and sideways over the years (with Operation Overdrive now displacing Turbo in many circles as the nadir of the series) as the source material has been more consistent (I'm enjoying Boukenger so far and I've found Carranger to be utterly hilarious).

    6. Yes, quite polarizing for what was supposed to be the 20th anniversary celebration; given the liberties that were taken with prior seasons (as well as condensing about 50-odd episodes of Gokaiger and elements of Goseiger into a 20-episode season) and how Viacom has been treating the New Saban era (seriously, they're still forcing these rules on them and shafting new episodes for SpongeBob reruns and tween sitcoms despite being a top-rated show and moving quite a bit of merchandise for Bandai). I don't know what will happen now that their contract has been renewed till 2018; especially with this whole business model of trying to reach people my age while also trying to appeal to today's kids as well. That said; I have been enjoying the perspective the Sentai source material has been giving me; and I'm fortunately prepared for more breaks with my backlog (I'm also mulling importing some of the Japanese goods as well; as a fair number of Sentai-only heroes and mecha look very nice).

    8. I'm on his look at RPM; which should be a good look at that season. While Go-Onger was the first Sentai I watched (I found it hilarious); RPM is definitely a good model to follow for a darker take on the series, if the planned film reboot does go that route (at least more than that infamous fan film that went viral about a year ago). Even given Eddie Guzelian's quote on how he was going to pull it off (before he left and series veteran Judd Lynn returned); they managed to take a very silly Sentai series and turn it into a very dark and gritty PR series (which is what they tried to do with Turbo, only this time it worked).
