Did Chris Give Up Again?

Another Friday gone by where Chris doesn't post anything. He's claiming "technical difficulties" but that excuse can only go so far, especially when he won't say what these difficulties are. I get the feeling he's being lazy or something is happening that he doesn't want to bring up.

March has been dead. On the 1st he posted another damn Skylanders video. He can't claim that his Skylanders stuff is popular because the views for that video are crap. Maybe now is the time to retire the toys. I mean, he retired everything amiibo related (including that blog), how about adding Skylanders to that list. Especially when you made it clear that you don't like any of the games after the first, complaining about "gimmicks" and you just want simple & stupid. Maybe that's why views are down too?

Then nothing nothing nothing until March 15th when he posted another art book "review". This one about The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. I normally don't cover those because it's always the same thing. Chris looks through the book, says the pictures are cool, says there's text, and that fans of the game would probably like it. It's always obvious that he never actually played the game in question (though in the case of Fable Legends, nobody will play that game).
This is all just Chris selling out hard. He has no content, so he shills products most people likely won't buy. Despite what some people claim, selling out isn't "making money making internet videos", that's just capitalism. Chris making videos to promote garbage, that's selling out. He can't even get brand deals like Audible or Crunchyroll, who work with countless YouTube channels to promote their services, and those people always save the promotion for the end of the video. They don't make separate videos where the sole purpose is to shill the product or service.

Also, Chris claimed in the video that it's "review week" on his channel. .... He only posted one video. That's not a review week! Hell, shouldn't "review week" be YOUR JOB! Posting something every week?! God how dense are you?

The upcoming IG video better be like 12 minutes long. If it's short like the Excitebike video, then I know he's full of crap.

  1. Another contemptible Bores cock up gone by. In the meantime, I shall tend to the new Fire Emblem: Fates. Bring on all that you can throw at me, RNG!

  2. At this point, I think Crisbo is just trying to prove that he just doesn't care. He wants easy money, but wants to do so little. That's not how it works, Crisbo!

As for me, I'm going to the Splatfest...de gesso!

    2. I'm going to log back into the Splatfest soon too; since I don't want to get too hooked on Pokkén Tournament, at least not yet (just cleared the Green League, going to keep practicing on single battles before the Blue League).

Aaaaalright, no politics. I was going to stop there anyway.

  4. A recent Robot Chicken episode had a sketch about Skylanders (specifically Trap Team). Any thoughts?

    1. Well, it's Robot Chicken. They were bound to do it eventually.

    2. And still, it is animated better than Bores.

    3. Though I have a feeling Bores would gush over the skit. Because Skylanders.

And speaking of Bores, I shouldn't be surprised if he took so long to release a new game review... and it ended up being another NES classic and lasting well under 10 minutes. (If he goes after SMB 1 or 3, I think we'll be pissed. Especially considering what he did 8 and a half years ago to SMB 2 and how he treated it unfairly.)

  5. Off topic:
Well, the twelfth North American Splatfest has come to an end, and the results were super narrow.
Despite Team Snowman having a higher popularity as I formerly thought (53%-47%), Team Sandcastles secured more victories (52%-48%). In the end, Sandcastles only won by 18 points (359-341).
On a side note, was anyone else having connection issues on a semi-regular basis? It seemed like every few matches I would lose connection and have to group up with a different team.
Also, despite not being the more popular team, there were at least three matches where my team would be pitted against another Sandcastle group. Did this also happen with Team Snowman, I wonder?

    1. I had those connection issues too. I was never mirror-matched though, must have been lucky.

    2. I also had connection issues (like, oh, say, my FIRST FRIGGIN MATCH!!!) and, yes, as a Team Snowman player (SNOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWW), I had mirror matches occasionally! Other than that, the Splatfest was fun.

Oh, and by the way, I think the Great Zapfish took a one hour break last night.

    3. I had no mirror matches at all. Heard on /ink/ that it may have something to do with the brackets.

  6. Off-topic, but I'm thinking of getting Fire Emblem Fates. But which one should I get? For reference, I'm thinking of siding with Hoshido.

    1. @Ixey5 It depends on your taste with previous FE games. Do you prefer games that plays just like Awakening (Birthright), or do you prefer a more challenging experience of Pre-Awakening games (Conquest)?

      Delete
    2. ...Umm. Sorry, but could you elaborate?
      o_o

    3. Basically, do you prefer modern or retro Fire Emblem?

With Hoshino being modern and Nohr being retro.

Personally, I would go with Hoshino, story-wise. No offence to Nohr, but what the developpers have promised to not be an evil story turned out to be this actually. So, I would rather wait until I've beat the Hoshino story.

    4. Sorry if I sound dumb, but I was asking in terms of gameplay mechanic. What's the difference between the two (or three)?

      Delete
    5. @Ixey5 Well, they are pretty much 2 completely different games, save for the first 6 chapters. Nohr has no overworld map and you must go directly from one chapter to another with nothing in-between, similar to traditional FE games. Hoshido does have an over world map, like Awakening, which means you can level grind and stuff. Nohr also has more difficult mission objectives instead of all of them simply being 'defeat all enemies' like in Awakening.

    6. It's kinda late, but I already picked up Birthright. Thanks anyway!

By the way, Sacred Stones also had a world map.

  7. Chris Bores is going the way of Style the Pickup Artist.

  8. It's hard to believe that when this blog first started, the biggest problem with Chris Bores was his terrible retro reviews. How times have changed.

Also, if you look at the comment section some his videos, people in 2015 were STILL leaving comments like "it's okay to like both Irate Gamer and AVGN." Enough said.

    1. Chris did give up, and quite honestly, so did the people on this blog. At this point, I think Chris will disappear from YouTube by the end of the year. He won't announce it; he'll just stop posting, and this blog will go with it.

    2. His channel died a long time ago. That doesn't mean he won't post videos but it will be along the lines of his shockingly bad tech and app reviews. You know, the stuff he gets from review shill sites like Amazon Review Club. (On a side note, that is how he rationalized his claim that he was "asked" to review an item.)

His channel still brings him a very modest amount of money and by his own admission his finances are tight. He needs every little bit of income he can get. His wells are drying up though. He has lost any chance of being a success in the gamer community, YouTube is over saturated with games and tech reviewers, his book sales have plummeted and at some point the money he makes from doing ghost tours at the Collingwood Arts Center is going to stop coming. In fact, it  may have already stopped. There hasn't been a ghost hunt on the Collingwood Art Center's event calendar since November 1st of last year and as of now there are none scheduled for the rest of 2016. See for yourself:  http://www.collingwoodartscenter.org/events

Every product he makes is  doomed to be mediocre because his work ethic is mediocre.

    1. From what I heard, open source and free.
I've never used it, I'm not sure how well it works for amateurs. With any luck we'll see some good indie animation projects, thought I think most potential creators would've already been using Flash or Anime Studio (or whatever else is popular these days)

  10. follow-up to the comments on the last post, regarding Jim Sterling vs. Digital Homicide:

    Wow.

I listened to the interview on YouTube. I figured I'l probably listen to ten minutes and get bored. It succeeded in capturing my attention with the sheer lunacy.

I actually thought Jim came off a little condescending right off the bat. His reaction that he was talking to an adult instead of a child as he expected, it was an obvious jab and a little premature.

Then the dude from DH acted like a child for over an hour an a half.

He can't make a single point. Even when he frames a question without any context and demands a no-context answer, constantly interrupting until he gets exactly the answer that he thinks proves his point, he somehow manages to do more damage to his own argument.

I said something like this in the last post, this guy is the Irate Gamer of Indie Devs. He's delusional about the quality of his work and the nature of his critics.

And now they're trying to sue him for $10.76 million dollars. I wish these guys would just man up and move on, but since that's clearly not going to happen at this point, I hope the swiftly get their asses handed to them with this BS lawsuit.

I'm not even a fan of Sterling. this is I've heard of him and I'm not initially impressed (except for his performance in the interview, he has a lot more patience that I do).

    1. I think my favorite part was when the DH dude used a sound clip from one of Jim's reviews.

From the sound of it, Jim was talking about a game where he's a mad scientist who's creating an army of sub-human creatures to do his evil bidding. Again (as if this needed any clarification), this is something he's doing in a video game, not real life.

The developer presented this as hard evidence that Jim was rallying his fans to literally attack the members of DH in real life.

    2. Definitely another case of #WTFU right there.

I don't follow Jimquisition either, but I highly doubt he would tell his fans to attack the company over their below-average games. *coughdayonegarrysmodcough*

    4. Those sociopaths from Digital Homicide are still at it? Haven't they learned at this point? Especially since one time, Jim deliberately delayed reviewing one of their games to prove that, yes, he had nothing to do with the negative reception they get. Those guys really need to learn to take criticism... and so do others.

  12. Hello. I go by Flathead Sam on YouTube. When I saw that IG was reviewing Skylanders toys in the colors of Autism Speaks, it bothered me considering that the organization does NOT help autistic people at all, like how PETA does not help animals either. So, I tried to be nice and say that to him, but he called me a liar and told me to fuck off. You guys can check out the comments under Flathead Sam if you wanna see for yourselves.

But that's odd. The comments responding to you seem to have been removed. Or at least I can't see them.

Oh, and in the description, he said that he "hit a few snags" regarding the newer IG episode. Anyone believe that?

    2. That's the fake IG. I really should make a post explaining that...

      Delete
    3. Pretty sure there's more than one fake IG.

A while back I was getting emails from people claiming to be IG offering me money to take over development of the Irate Gamer Game. Using readnotify I discovered these emails were coming from AZ and WA.

Later I got emails from Bores's real email address, with a disclaimer that it was being sent with a free trial of an anonymous email service. Probably the same people.

Maybe it's the same person, maybe not.
