IG Starts a New "Season" With More Stale Jokes about the Duck Hunt Dog

Looks like we’re back everyone! Seems “semi-retirement” means “I’ll release a video whenever the fuck I feel like it”. No more shitty tech reviews, no more art books, just a video crapped out every couple of months. That’s my guess anyway. He’s replaced his channel banner to just say “The Irate Gamer”. No more “new videos every Tuesday and Friday”.
I have heard that a Multi Channel Network can drop you if views are really low. Considering Bores no longer belongs to CDN/Studio 71, it’s likely they dropped him for abysmal views. I have to wonder what advice they gave him to get his channel to grow and if he ever took any of it. Chris has a really bad history of never taking criticism or advice to help him. Hell, he only started doing Let’s Play videos last year (and then stopped).

Sooooo yeah, a new regular Irate Gamer episode is here. He’s actually been teasing this one for a few weeks. The title indicates that this is the beginning of “Season 6”. Meaning Season 5 was only 10 episodes (12 if you count History of Video Games, and I don’t) and the finale was… Excitebike. Wow, lame.
How is he going to start this new season? Go back to talking about legitimate bad games? NOPE! More bashing of classics. Starting with Duck Hunt. … The video is 6:18 long (less when you consider the end slate). Considering how little gameplay there is, I sense this is going to be padded as fuuuuuuck.

Let’s look at the description.
“This time taking a look at the classic video game, Duckhunt and the stupid dog!” Duck Hunt is two words you illiterate idiot!
Also “and the stupid dog”? This is going to be all about the damn dog isn’t it? I sense jokes more stale than year old licorice.
“You know what I'm talkin' about!” Do we? Do we really?

Intro’s still the same. No updates for this new “season”.

0:17 - 0:46: Duck Hunt is “iconic“, ducks get faster in each level, cue a bit where a duck hits him in real life. I’m already bored.
He notes how Duck Hunt was packaged with the NES on release, and shows it alongside Super Mario Bros. Incorrect. For the very first NES release, Duck Hunt launched alongside Gyromite. It wasn’t until later that it was packaged with Super Mario Bros. This is a basic NES fact, how do you keep getting so many things wrong Chris?
He notes various releases of the game, which is a list joke leading into a pointless Brady Bunch reference. This is why watching too much Family Guy is hazardous to your health.

0:46 - 1:29: He drops the cartridge and… oh noooo. The Pixel Demon is back. Really? We’re doing storyline bullshit again? He still doesn’t look like pixels, or a demon. He just looks a crappy ogre or troll.
So he appears and… walks off screen. Okay so it’s just setting up pointless bullshit later in the video.
“To play this particular game however” Awkward sentence. Do you ever proofread your scripts?
He brings up the light gun. Then he asks “What’s a Light Gun?” … You can’t say that line when you’ve used the Zapper on multiple occasions, or the Super Scope, or the Odyssey Rifle. Oh, it just leads to a bit where he points the barrel at his face and blinds himself with light. Even though that makes zero sense!
Explains that it reacts to light on the TV, and he keeps failing. Then brings up that it won’t work on new televisions as we see he now has a tiny flat-screen HD TV. Seriously that looks like it’s 20 inches. I didn’t even know they still made TVs that small.
So he needs to get an older model, and it replaces his HD TV with one from the 50’s. Dumb joke. Then his usual Sharp TV. I just realized, if he actually explained his points normally without a cutaway or stupid reaction attached, his videos would only be like 2 minutes long. He has no content, just bad jokes.

1:30 - 2:34:
He goes over the first two modes, how you only get three bullets, and if you miss everything the dog will laugh at you.
“What a DEEICK” Yes yes, we haven’t heard this joke a billion times already…
He brings up that you need to kill 6/10 to advance and REALLY? You have to use the “Green Circle of Fucking Obvious” on this? Well it’s more an oval but still. My brain is hurting…
Ducks get faster, hide behind the greenery, obvious editing in use (like holy shit it’s blatant), and he misses and the dog laughs. Bored.

2:35 - 2:53: Pixel Demon shows up on his shelf, says it’s time for his revenge. IG misses ducks again (wow, how do you suck at Duck Hunt?), he throws his zapper like a child and it manages to hit the Pixel Demon. Well that was pointless.
Dog laughs at him again. “God I wish I could shoot that dog”. Didn’t you already do that back in the Jaws “review”? Then again, Chris seems to have a memory made of Swiss cheese so I wouldn’t be surprised if he forgot all about that. This is the same guy that reviewed Rayman Legends twi- … *checks* Oh shit, he deleted the second Rayman Legends video. I always seem to discover a new deleted video every time I look. Hopefully someone has been saving everything.

2:53 - 3:22: He says one major downside is that the screen never changes. You never go to other locations like forests, deserts, tundras or the moon. While that could be a good point, you have to remember that this was a VERY early NES game. It came out in Japan in 1984, a good year before Super Mario Bros, which had plenty of screen variation.
Though this was likely an excuse to have the Duck Hunt dog suffocate in space and have his head explode. Keep it classy Chris. Also, how do the ducks fly around in this imaginary moon level if there‘s no air or gravity? Throwing logic out the window for terrible jokes.
Still complains it‘s only one screen. “Talk about your Lake Shittycacas” That name was dirty enough before, you ruined the joke. God damn it Chris.
Then he commits suicide with the Zapper. This is what, the fourth time he’s done this? I don’t care to check.

3:23 - 3:45: First 20 levels are easy, then they get hard. How does anyone think Chris is a good reviewer? The points he makes are fucking obvious.
Then an obvious edit of the game going super fast, and an even more obvious edit of more than two ducks on the screen (pretty sure the game would break if that happened)
“Die you motherfuckers” Back to uncensored cursing I see.
Then he screams “Damn it!”, shoots his ceiling and a shitty debris effect falls on him. Review over? I wish.
Then he fucking growls at the dog. Are you five? You’re reminding me of Chris-chan when he tried to “bare his teeth” like an animal to scare away the trolls.

3:46 - 4:10: Then the Pixel Demon shows up again. This time he successfully attacks IG, but apparently he’s nothing more than a bug to him.
“A Pixel Demon?!” Wait, there’s more than one?! Or was that Chris not checking his script again?
So apparently the Pixel Demon can “glitch games”. Is that what he was doing with Silver Surfer? I thought he was a great menace that was locked away in a super hard game. Chris, don’t tell me you’ve forgotten your own bullshit writing? I thought you were proud of your “movie”?
Anyway, because he can “glitch games”, IG shoves him into the Zapper, and he manages to kill the dog. Oh god this is so dumb… The overly dramatic music that plays only showcases how dumb it really is.

4:11 - 5:49: He moves onto the Clay Shooting game and briefly describes it. Calling them “clay discs” instead of clay pigeons but whatever. Then he edits in the dog to laugh at him. IG yells that he’s not supposed to be here, and the dog gives him an angry thumbs up? Oh wait that’s supposed to be a middle finger. How has your sprite editing gotten even worse?
Then… things get really bad.
He shakes the Zapper to get the Glitch Gremlin I mean Pixel Demon out and into an NES controller. He presses the A button and it… summons a Super Mario pipe, and Zelda music plays when it appears. Where is the sense?!
IG jumps into the pump head first, oh good he’ll die on the way down. No, he just ends up inside the game. He starts chasing the dog and they start going through different games. It goes on for a long fucking time. Super Mario Bros 3, Kung-Fu, Metroid, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Life Force, DuckTales, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Arcade Game, Gyromite, Mega Man, Mortal Kombat?!  That’s not even an NES game! No, this is so he can uppercut the dog off the Pit and into the spikes below. This. Was. Fucking. Retarded!

Of course, there’s the “plz subscreeb” end slate. He claims that whole ending scene took him 12 hours. … Am I supposed to be impressed?

Same shit, different day.
To be honest, when I heard the Pixel Demon would be back, I thought we’d get something slightly different. Something more than the usual gray slop he’s been giving us for the past year. But no, it’s more of the same, the Pixel Demon was pointless anyway. It was more of the usual crap. The game is hard, limitation complaints, pointless complaints, tons and tons and tons of padding, holy shit that last scene felt like it went on and on. And why? He already killed the dog back in his Jaws review, this just feels so pointless.
I don’t understand how people are saying this is a good video. Nothing about it is good. The jokes are old and stale, or just dumb, the effects are mediocre, he made zero good points, yet somehow people are saying “OH GREAT VIDEO HERP HERP HERP”. I just don’t get it. Please explain to me IG fans why you think his videos are still good?

Who knows when Chris is going to put out another video? Especially if he’s in “semi-retirement”.

    1. On one of the rare critical comments, someone said something along the lines of the falling out of the chair bit sucks. Bores responded quite civilly that the bit was his "signature move". I like to imagine a wrestling game were Bores is in the ring in a chair , and falls out of it until the other wrestler, ref, announcers, fans, etc pass out and he wins by submission

    3. Not to this extent. I may not be a fan of the dog either, but I wouldn't have put his head on a pike! I don't know Chris feels about animals, but it's just the latest random act of cruelty from his reviews. That ending wasn't a funny take on the joke, it was sick. I can only wonder how it fits in with Brandon Brown's theory.

  4. I like how he "brags" that it took him a long time like it's supposed to automatically mean it's quality. He probably saw the AVGN MM review where James mentions it took him 125 hours and thinks if he throws out a number like 12 it'll seem like he worked really hard!

  6. Daniel, are you familiar with the Vs. Arcade version? You could actually shoot the Dog in that version. You could also shoot him in a very obscure NES game from Nintendo called "Barker Bill's Trick Shooting".

    Surprised Bores didn't know that.

  7. Is it just me, or did the dog turn into a cowboy from Wild Gunman during one of the shooting scenes? Either way, this video sucked. Well, see you all soon, SpongeBob Splatfest in Splatoon starts in a bit.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Yup, the Pixel Demon is still useless and pathetic as ever. What's the point of having him around in the show at this point?

    ReplyDelete
  9. Duck Hunt is a pretty simple, yet fun game. Sometimes it can be hard to shoot the ducks, but it's nothing you'll spend hours trying to learn and the increasing challenge will help you try to improve your accuracy and give you a satisfying challenge.

...There! That's my review of Duck Hunt. What else needs to be said?

But really, we waited this long for this atrocity? At this point, I don't think Crisbo is even trying anymore. The Pixel Demon (That's a stupid name! What about "The Frog Troll"?) was completely pointless and the dog didn't deserve this treatment.

  10. I wonder if Chris is somehow related to the CEO of Golden Corral. Seriously, that place has gone so downhill that it actually makes Waffle House and Denny's look like five star restaurants.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Not only is Golden Corral dirty and disgusting, but they use deceptive practices to cover up that fact. You drive by a GC these days and it looks like a super nice upscale restaurant on the outside, because if it looked anything like it did on the inside then it would never attract customers. Furthermore, they make you pay up front and lots of money too before you even get to your table. Then there was that incident where one GC hid all their food out by the dumpster during an inspection. Chris employs the same work ethic. It's like instead of working hard to actually produce quality, let's deceive customers into thinking we're much better than we actually are.

    1. I'm very skeptical of anyone who comes out with anything like a "seven steps to success" because it sounds like an Internet marketing scheme. Keep in mind those people are mainly out to make money, and I'm sure said people make more money on giving advice how to make money than they do from implementing their own steps.

  14. Semi-related, but I saw Pixels last night; and it was terrible. It's clear Boring Man is the exact audience for Happy Madison, and that's why he's one of the few who liked the movie. The writing, acting and effects are all atrocious; and the movie committed every cardinal sin a blockbuster can today. It's a cynical disaster of a movie that is not only my least favorite major release of 2015, but has joined the list of the worst films I've ever seen. Super Mario Bros., you've just been replaced as my worst video game movie ever. Now, I'm going to detox by watching The Force Awakens again.

Just as I often offset a saccharin film with a violent action movie, I felt my favorite film of 2015 would be good to contrast that abysmal Adam Sandler film. Did you not enjoy Episode VII, Brandon?

    3. It was nice to look at in the moment, but the fridge logic hit me like a glacier made of cinderbricks. It was when I got to that point that I came to despise it for being a soulless, creatively bankrupt husk that, at best, would have made for a phoned-in middle chapter in this new trilogy. I was so pissed off about this film that not only have I decided to boycott the future films, though I might see Rogue One, but I've decided to do a complete rewrite of the new trilogy.

Notwithstanding, I think there's at least one major project that I should tackle before I do that.

      Delete
    4. Thank you for your input. I'm planning on seeing Rogue One as well, and even though I liked the film; the Honest Trailer and Cinema Sins did have some pretty good riffs on the original trilogy influence and the liberties taken with the new additions to the canon. I am curious to see what Rian Johnson and Colin Trevorrow bring to the table, to say nothing of what Gareth Edwards has planned. I do plan on watching the movie again today, what with the date and all. In any case, I'll take BB8 over Q-bert pissing himself any day.

  15. It's likely the attempt at a regular schedule WAS a recommendation by his network. The thing is that schedules are actually a good way of gaining viewers, since it becomes part of people's regular daily/weekly/etc. habits. It's a case of, "Oh, it's Tuesday! That means there will be a new ______ video!"

Of course, in order to keep a regular schedule, one needs regular content. And thus he needed to produce quicker, cheaper videos for things that weren't regular episodes. If he's not part of a network anymore, he doesn't need to worry about that.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. From the perspective of someone who's made this mistake in the past, yes, a schedule is absolutely vital.

He should make a buffer of a few episodes. Make episodes one, two, and three. Then upload them on the first of every month. During the month that episode one is online, work on episode four. While episode two is showing, work on episode five.

Besides the benefit to your viewers of knowing when to expect content, it works wonders for your own productivity. Working in these patterns makes you more efficient.

Of course, Bores doesn't really care anymore (did he ever?) and IG will likely disappear soon. I instead offer this advice to anyone else looking to start a project that needs a schedule. This system served me well when I worked on webcomics, and I intend to use it with game development as well.

    2. For some reason, it seems that whichever team wins in terms of popularity is usually the team that ends up losing overall, especially in terms of victories. (Team Nice was more popular, but lost to Team Naughty; Team Future was more popular, but lost to Team Past; Team Pokémon Red was more popular, but lost to Team Pokémon Blue; etc.)
While I did side with Team Patrick (mainly to have a friendly competition with my friend who was on Team Spongebob), this weekend had me preoccupied with other things that kept me from participating much in the Splatfest (I did make it to Defender rank in the limited amount of time I did get to play, so I ended up getting some Super Sea Snails).

  19. I want to congratulate YouTuber "prankster" Riceman for managing to be an even cuntier version of Derek Savage. For those of you who don't know, months ago, this guy complained to his network, Fullscreen, to claim a video of Pyrocynical's where he commentates on a video where Riceman disgustingly fakes suicide in front of his own mother. And when Prycynical recently brought up Riceman's name again for not even 30 seconds and used only a 5 second clip of his video, Riceman got Fullscreen to claim THAT video despite the fact that he wasn't even the focus of it. And now, Riceman has the fucking nerve to try and get up on the soapbox and try and say that Pyro is a thief and runs a channel centered on negativity, even though Riceman himself pulls disgusting "school shooting" pranks while Pyro explicitly told everyone not to flame on Riceman despite the shit he's doing to him.

It's bad enough that their mindless fanbase spammed him on Twitter when they mentioned the possibility of him being on the show once, but now they're just outright harassing the guy? Come on, man.

    6. Do they even have standards when it comes to their fanbase's behaviour?

I remember that Chugga called his fanbase out when he put a certain artwork of Kumatora (from Mother 3). And this is a guy who cares for his fans!

Similarily, Retsupurae cares for their fans, but they outright despise it when they harass a user that they just riffed.

So why can't Game Grumps call their fanbase out? And as for that watermelon thing, I'll just take a page from Death the Kid and say "DISGUSTING! DISGUSTING! DISGUSTING!"... though thankfully without shooting anything!

I remember just after Bores most recent brief retirement, people on here talking about making top tens if Bores was to quit. It looks like he is just gonna be slow in putting things out. How about top nine lists in "honor" of IG's 9th year on youtube? AVGN is in the middle of his tenth anniversary, why not just skip next years' IG tenth anniversary, and deny him a top ten for that occasion by making a series of top nine lists. Top nine worst jokes. Top nine biggest factual errors, etc.

  33. So...anyone enjoying Star Fox Zero? Despite its learning curve, from what I played at the moment, I still think it's a fun game. It was really worth the wait.

  35. VS. Duck Hunt (the VS. System version of Duck Hunt) had the dog laughing at you during the Clay Pigeon gameplay, just like in IG's review.

  37. I think it's fair to say that the latest MVP in the battle against YouTube copyright horseshit is none other than Jim Fucking Sterling, Son. His copyright deadlock idea was pure genius, in that while he didn't get the ad revenue on the latest Jimquisition on Star Fox Zero, none of the companies he got to fight over the rights to monetization got it either. If you can't fix the system, break it even more.

  38. Somebody should do an Irate Gamer parody that reviews Pong, and spends most of the "review" just complaining that the graphics aren't in HD.

    1. I don't have video editing software, but if I did and I knew how to use it (plus the time to make a review), I'd do Megaman X and bitch about how I get stuck in a pit and have to reset the game, but then discover I can climb the walls after "doing some research".

    2. After doing some research, I have discovered that 'parody' = 'plagiarise the shitload of fuck out of something'.

      Source: the Bores English Dictionary.

    3. If it's Chris's claim that his show is a parody, it's a very weak claim indeed. I think he decided to become a parody reviewer to overall justify himself being a poorman's version of AVGN.

  39. I actually left a comment asking why he doesn't review bad games but craps on good ones.
    He's yet to respond.

    1. He claims it's "easier" to bash games he "loves". Which makes zero sense.
He also says that bashing bad games should be for "the other guys", so it sounds like his attempt at standing out. Considering the poor views and lack of channel growth, this clearly isn't working.

      Delete
    2. That's like saying it's "easier" to make penis and turd jokes than actual clever and well-written jokes that aren't disgusting. No wonder why Chris and Happy Madison have such a huge connection with each other.

      Delete
    3. Once again, Chris is stroking his ego acting like he's invented some groundbreaking concept by reviewing games he claims to love. Sorry Chris, but James has been doing that for most of his videos.

  40. Two things about the Duck Hunt ending bit. First off, IG chases the dog with the Zapper, yet he never fires it once. He runs after the dog with the zapper pointed in front of his face, yet he doesn't fire it. Second, when "Finish Him" comes up he points the zapper at the dog as if he's going to shoot it, but the zapper just disappears so he can do that stupid uppercut shot. So basically, the zapper is entirely pointless in that entire ending bit.

    1. Maybe it was out of ammo? I did see him pull the trigger on the Zapper, but no sound came out.

    2. Or he wanted to do that Mortal Kombat bit so much that he didn't give one damn about consistency or even sense.
      -_-

    3. maybe because the zapper wasnt plugged in, but having things unplugged or even having the game in properly doesn't stop Bores from arriving at whatever idiot point he is trying to get to.

With respect to Mr. the Hunter. Really. They're affected by something they don't like and respond. So what? He's doing the exact same thing. Crticising that thing while also doing the same thing is....blech. I skimmed the video and the whole thing was like "I AM A GIANT HYPOCRITE! LOVE ME! NOT THESE GUYS!" though seeing his other vids, this is kind of his job, I don't think I'd take it seriously. As for the santoro bit.......eh, I don't care, either. =p Go me.

  45. As a kid, I know everyone tried to shoot the duck hunt dog. It's just one of those universal things, you already have a gun in your hand and he appears in the same general area you were shooting and laughs at you when you lose.

But all things considered, was he really that bad?

The light gun tech was actually amazing for the time, so misses were usually the player's fault.

Looking over this list of most annoying characters, I see plenty that make duck hunt dog seem good in comparison. Somehow he still got to the top of this list.

    1. I think the crows and Medusa heads in the NES Castlevania games are far more annoying than the dog.
But that may be just me.

    2. I personally don't care for the dog, but I consider the hawks from Ninja Gaiden to be more obnoxious by several orders of magnitude, especially on later stages.

    4. It was terrible. They removed Sara Bellum from the show. The new art style isn't appealing and the Powerpuff Girls in the new show are actually WEAKER than they are in the original show. In the original show, they can punch and kick any enemy without pain but in the new show, they actually break their bones when they hit something and when Bubbles get punched, she loses her teeth.

It's also worth noting that when the original show first came out, they only made toys and merchandise after the show became insanely popular. The new show however came out AFTER the toys and merchandise came out. This is a show that is only made to sell toys. And that's very sad.

  47. Off-topic, but this weekend, I went to some Nintendo-themed tournaments from Thursday-Sunday. There was a different game each day: Smash 4, Star Fox Zero, which was a Score Attack on Corneria and Titania, Mario Kart 8 and Splatoon, though that last one wasn't actually a tournament, but more of a chance to win ballots. Overall, I had fun!
