Time Keeps on Shillin' Shillin' Shillin' Into the Future (Which Chris Doesn't Have)

Chris just posted something... interesting to say the least. I'll get to that in a bit, but first the other video he posted a few days ago.

This one he shills another box, for the "meal replacement" drink Soylent. The very same drink that was found to have more lead than the legal amount approved by California and thus is very toxic to drink! Not to mention, naming your product after a movie that involved turning people into food. But Chris don't care, he's getting paid! The fans certainly don't like it. Lots of dislikes and unsubscribes. Chris really doesn't get it, but MONEY!
What's weird is that in the beginning of the video, he said he just did a Box Wars "the other day". Last Box Wars: July 14th. Soylent video: August 1st. Once again, Chris has no idea how time works. Either that or he filmed this like a couple days after the Box Wars and didn't post it until now, and that makes no sense since it's a two minute video where just shills a product, not something edited with "thought" put into it.

Now the newest video, hoo boy is this a doozy. Chris has been "asked" by Wisdom Tree to promote a Kickstarter, one that's a product to play all their bible games, either a "plug-and-play" device or an NES cartridge.
First of all, Wisdom Tree is still around? I thought they died out with LJN, Acclaim and all the other shit-slingers of the 8-bit era. I know that Super 3D Noah's Ark was released on Steam last year, but I thought that was another company that just had the rights, not Wisdom Tree themselves.
Second, and I really want to know this, why? Why would anyone want this? These games were shit, they've been called shit for years, as far back as when Seanbaby talked about terrible NES games. Who would fund this? *checks* Apparently 276 people have funded $22,329 and have far exceeded its goal of $16,500. ... Sooo where does this place on the tier of "irresponsible money spending"? I imagine it 's up there with donating to "give me money to do nothing Patreons" and giving money to Christian Weston Chandler.
Third, why would you ask Chris Bores? He has never talked about your games. The most he's done is during that crappy portable NES "review" when he made a joke about it being able to play "games sent from heaven" and he's suddenly playing Bible Adventures. Other than that, he has said nothing. This is one of the least likely people to ask. Why not ask James Rolfe? He made three videos putting your games in the spotlight. Oh right, he probably doesn't want to promote a Kickstarter like this after the Cheetahman II one blew up in... his... GOD DAMN IT CHRIS! Are you done caring? Do you no longer have any shame? Are you just going to pretend the past never happened? Are you that desperate for money? I mean, you must be when you're considering doing a Kickstarter for more of your show (and you better explain why). This is just... wow.
Surprisingly, the fans aren't too mad about this one. There's more likes, and there's not a ton of negative comments. There are, mostly people wondering the same as me. Why do this?

Also, I'm pretty sure Chris doesn't understand the concept of unlicensed NES games. In the video itself, he mentions how Wisdom Tree's games had "different cartridges". That's because they weren't licensed by Nintendo, thus they have a different casing and parts inside that bypass the lockout chip. It's really amazing how little you know despite having grown up in the era. Can't even bother to do proper research.

At this point, I'm just waiting for the Kickstarter. I want to see how insane it is.

  2. Wisdom Tree do still exist, having made a few Christian PC games, and that's about it. An interesting thing is they (used to, not sure if they still do) have all of their NES games available to play via vNES for free, so this multicart seems pointless in my opinion.

I did see Pat the NES Punk and Ian mention this on their podcast and they pretty much said "ehh" on the idea, considering the only "good" games they made were Exodus/Joshua and Spiritual Warfare.

    2. @Guru, what? Wasn't he just a spokesperson ala James? Wasn't Greg whatever his name is the mastermind of the Cheetahmen Indiegogo? Pat, James just endorsed it as a favor or whatever I believe

    3. Greg Pabich was the one who created the Kickstarter. James, Pat, and the Game Chasers merely endorsed it.

Boy, that e-begging "spoof" has really bitten Bores in the butt, hasn't it? Considering he's doing crowdfunding himself now...

    15. For starters, Chris, 60 year old women don't get online to defend their kids. Hell, most 60 year old women don't even bother with the internet, because it holds no interest for them.

Secondly, I can tell the difference, and I can say 60 year old women also don't speak the way you do either. You have to be a special kind of stupid to honestly think, Chris, that elderly people, especially women, speak like you do.

And lastly, according to an internet search, and screenshots from earlier this year, you're still in the 55-59 age bracket. It's kind of sad, Chris, you can't be bothered to even know your own mother's age.

Chris does a video promoting a crowd-funding campaign by another person but somehow this is perfectly acceptable. Not only that but Chris is contemplating crowd-funding for another season of Irate Gamer.

Lastly, Christians do NOT tell others "he's going to hell for committing suicide." Only an insensitive moron would do that. There have been relatives of people in the church who have died, and I would NEVER tell them "Oh, he/she is going to hell." I would look like a total scumbag for saying that. That right there is what Chris is. A scumbag.

  11. Wisdom Tree chose Chris to ask to be a spokesman because Wisdom Tree's employees are self-aware. They became Wisdom Tree for the express purpose of selling their crap games to a more captive audience(christian kids whose moms scrutinize the morality of their purchases). Even the name is a dead giveaway. The Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, the likely namesake of the company, is the source of all that went wrong with humanity in the Christian mythos. When they made their kickstarter, they knew they'd be banking on people getting into it ironically to play some crappy games again, so why not get a youtube "celeb" who enjoys a similar irony-based following? It all makes sense to me.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I'd say that Wisdom Tree's motivations were purely business. They began as Color Dreams and simply produced unlicensed NES games. Nintendo pressured retailers not to carry unlicensed games but Nintendo didn't have much power over distribution to Christian book/media stores. By making Christian-themed games Wisdom Tree had a small but untapped market almost entirely to themselves.

  16. In completely unrelated news, the metroid 2 fan remake (AMR2) has finally seen a full release after 10 years in development. After just one day though, Nintendo has sent C&D letters to everyone hosting it. Still not impossible to get a hold of though (I snagged a download from the official project site before they started cracking down)

Things like this I really can't comprehend, don't see what Nintendo gets out of it aside from bad PR. Especially since the thing is non profit! Hell why not just charge 5 bucks for it and have all the proceeds go to Nintendo?

    Copyrights I tell ya...

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I call this kind of stuff the "Nintendo fan game cycle". Someone makes a Mario/Zelda/Metroid fan game, it goes viral thanks to big gaming websites like Polygon and Kotaku, and Nintendo shuts the project down. I don't think Nintendo has as big of a problem with the fan games themselves as they do the massive coverage they get (they do not want people to mistake these for official games). You may not like it, but that's sadly how it works.

      Delete
    2. I suspected the same thing considering the fact they never went after them during all the years the thing was in development. It was hardly a secret, and some Nintendo affiliated sites did articles on it. Guess they just don't want mainstream news outlets broadcasting its existence.

Compare with Chrono Resurrection which was killed mid-development when Square learned of it (To be fair the people behind that intended to release it on consoles) or Black Mesa which Valve seems to fully endorse.

      Delete
    3. Pretty sure Nintendo is obligated to do this for legal reasons. It's really not as simple as "Nintendo just hates their fans why don't they just pick this up and license it for 5 bucks"

But yeah it doesn't really matter that much if you wanted to play it because I'm sure you could find it easily. Once something is up on the internet, it's kinda there forever.

      Delete
    4. I'm somewhat familiar with the nature of Trademarks and Cease and Desist, so I'll try to give a simple explanation.

Nintendo technically has a choice on wether or not they send a C&D, but not really.

A company can actually lose their trademark if they don't protect it. It doesn't matter how good or bad it is, if they don't defend the trademark in every case, they lose the right to do so in any case.

I think any licensing would have to be done before the fact, not afterwards.

So, don't blame Nintendo, they're in the right.

    7. No, I know that Chris Bores is a dumbass. I actually like his videos ironically; they're so bad that they're actually good.

Almost all of those people commenting saying that they like the videos are just trolling you guys.

What's retarded is how BatDan misses a ton of errors in the videos (for example, he didn't notice that he was using an LCD until his Duck Hunt review, despite it being clearly visible since at least his Atari 2600 review (which, by the way, is probably why he's so bad at the games; there's probably a huge amount of input lag)), and occasionally overreacts to something just to make him look worse. He's basically a lolcow, not someone to be afraid of. He's not going to ruin video games for you or anything (though they pretty much already have for other reasons).

A-Log is someone who made unfunny commentaries on Chris Chan's videos and always talked about how evil he was. BatDan is basically doing this with Bores. I'm not saying that he doesn't deserve it, I just think it's retarded to write these huge posts about some guy you hate and whose videos make you cringe.

Also, by "shit YouTube videos", I meant all the let's plays, reviews, top 10 lists, etc.
