More Confirmation for a "Summer Return"

Finally, the weather is warming up.
So Bores posted something on Facebook, which according to my informant was done in extra big font to signify how important it is.

So yeah, further confirmation that he's doing game reviews again "this summer"
Notice how he specifically says "Irate Gamer" and not "Chris Neo" or something else. Prior to this post, he asked the people on Facebook what he should do. Classic style IG, current Chris Neo, serious stuff, "educational" stuff, and just about every fan said "classic clown classic clown". So it seems it finally penetrated his thick skull that he should keep doing the shit that was giving him views. Notice how there's 65 comments, normally his posts only get at most 4. But this and the last post asking what he should do got way more. It's almost like fans only care about that and not the other shit he does. Though the post about "Illuminati imagery on Nickelodeon" got a lot, but that's mostly people making fun of him. By the way, props to Brad Jones for including a reference to that in his Left Behind video.

Now what does this entail? Is Chris actually going to bring back Irate Gamer? When he launched "Chris Neo" he said it was the Irate Gamer's return, and as we soon saw it wasn't that at all. So is Chris going to do classic clown shit or is it "another new direction" that like Chris Neo will completely bomb because it's not what the people want. He does that so often. "Stop doing Skylanders, or put it on another channel" "Okay... no wait this sucks, more Skylanders!" Who's to say, all we can do now is wait and see.

Weirdly enough, I noticed that Chris shares some parallels with Krusty the Clown. Hear me out. Krusty is only good at one thing, entertaining kids by acting like a buffoon. Krusty's attempts at branching out often end in failure. Adult comedy he fails, serious acting roles he fails, even deviating from the clown act a bit would result in failure. For a more in-depth look at that, check out this video from TheRealJims.
Chris' only success seems to come from acting like a buffoon for kids. Irate Gamer, Puppet Steve, that's where he got the most views. Chris Neo, ghost hunting shit, Letter People, these did not catch on at all. But even then they seem to lose steam, IG went downhill, and Puppet Steve seems to be the same. Despite having over 500k subscribers, the views he gets rarely break 100k now. Hell the last video to do that was one about the Sonic movie posted March 5th. This is not healthy.

Another big question is, if Chris does indeed return to classic style IG, will the fans return too? Despite having 157k subscribers, only a small handful of those bothered to watch Chris Neo. Hard to say what will happen going forward.

That's all for me. Enjoy your Spring!

  1. Who knows what the Boring One will do over the next few months. Hopefully, if he does bring Irate Gamer back, his reviews are "so bad, they're entertaining" again.

    1. If he does reboot Irate Gamer and the videos are in the "So Bad, It's Good" category, I may come out of retirement for more riffs. If the videos reek of half-assed-ness (like the story arc ones), then I won't bother.

  2. I think the damage has been done, honestly. Most of the fans who watched Chris back in 2007 have grown up and moved on.

  3. "Chris' only success seems to come from acting like a buffoon for kids." That and abusing popular trends for the sake of views. That's probably why Puppet Steve's popularity is dying. Because Minecraft's popularity is finally dying (correct me if I'm wrong, I just don't hear people talk about it as much these days).

Also, remember that Chris has never been good at keeping promises. Don't be surprised if nothing is posted on Chris' IG channel, Chris is completely silent about it, and then later remarks "I've been busy this summer taking care of the kids and other priorities. I might have more time next year." Rinse, wash, repeat.

  5. The big font is a default that Facebook has when a post is below a certain number of characters. It wasn't Chris' doing.

  7. I don't think he'll be happy until every game video he produces is hailed as the triumphant return of Irate Gamer. He loves the excitement of comebacks; sustaining a reasonable fraction of that energy through daily work is too big a hassle.

  8. Angry reviewing, as a style is a dead fad. Why attempt to bring it back when there's so many more competent people who review games these days and don't hide behind greenscreen effects?

    1. Is he finally gonna review Metroid and at the end of the video, he says "Samus is a girl!? What the fuckin' fuck!?" followed by an unfunny greenscreen joke!?

    5. Pretty unfunny. James is now pretty much no different than Chris. He’s got to let this old angry reviewer schtick go. I don’t get why people like this shit. Watch Silent Rob’s take down of the video. He makes several good points.

  10. Chris made another post on Facebook. He is acting humbled by all of the support he has received for the Irate Gamer's return. A couple more details - the new IG show will focus on NES games. It also will not be like Chris NEO - which Chris now calls an experiment that did not quite reach the mark.

  11. I can already predict his Metroid review:

He starts off by saying that Metroid is one of the best Nintendo franchises (I didn't know) and that there are over 15 games in the series, when there are actually only 13 games, Metroid Prime 4 will be the 14th game. Then he starts up the game and incorrectly calls Samus a boy (just to build up to an unfunny joke at the end) and says the game plays like Contra or Mega Man (Another lie) and that you collect powerups hidden across the world map. (I wasn't aware of that) Then he says that not having a map or a save feature (at least we have a password system) is a bad thing and that the game is "too hard" without it. He'll then compare it to other games (the 16-bit games) and how they aren't as fun or something like that and says that it has "ass" written all over it, when compared to the other games (After all, he likes to rehash crap, from his other reviews) Then we get an unfunny joke about the first boss, then a boring 5 minute gaming montage to some crappy hard rock music and unfunny 8-bit sprites doing unfunny things. He then complains about the Metroid draining your health and rehashing the same complains about the eggplants from Kid Icarus. Then he finally arrives and Ridley and well, you can predict what kind of joke he'll make. Finally after beating Mother Brain, he says that the whole boss battle was a ripoff of the final battle from Kid Icarus. During the ending; we see that unfunny joke he was building up to, when Samus is revealed to be a girl (Chris and his sexism with females, ugh) and some unfunny greenscreen joke occurs, then he takes out the cartridge and calls it a piece of [insert vulgar bowl movement/poop joke here] and tries to destroy it with the NES Zapper, after spurting out an unfunny one liner, relating to the game, then some unfunny shenanigans occur, which prevents him from destroying the game, where some 8-bit Metroid sprites attack him and Ronnie the Skeleton shows up and says "Oh my God, are you being attacked by Metroids? Oh this is just great, I love those things!". Then the video ends as usual.

  12. I'm kind of mixed about all this. Part of me is excited to see him finally review Metroid. However angry reviewing is a thing of the past. So many people have moved onto edited content. The real reason why Bores lost a lot of fans is that he never evolved his content like AVGN did. One thing I'll give PewDiePie credit for is that as his viewership aged he evolved his content. His newer content is much more tolerable than what he was putting out 5 years ago.

    1. Since we know Chris reads this blog, I'm afraid he may not do Metroid since he knows we want him to. On the other hand, he may end up doing Metroid, starting the video with "Since all my fans asked for it..."

      Delete
    2. How did you feel about the Chris Neo reviews? Angry reviewing was dead then, too.

      Delete
    3. I have no issue with Chris creating more content and while he may not believe it - I would have no problem with him if he produced good quality content. The problem is that history has shown multiple times that Chris tends to half-ass his own projects and quality suffers. He had no clue as to why the Irate Gamer was featured on YouTube and his brief rise to prominence. His tendency to blame his failures on others shows he does not understand why the Irate Gamer collapsed.

I may be in the minority here but I actually think Chris could put out better content if he was willing to work with a team. I find that his content suffers when he does all of the writing, plays all of the roles and then does all of the editing.

    4. Saw the Sonic movie trailer. Hoo-boy is right... and Jim Carrey as Robotnik/Eggman is the only positive thing I can say about it.

As for Detective Pikachu, it looks a lot nicer, but I'm not giving in to the hype. I feel it's just going to be a rather dull movie with a lot of cliches despite all the hype. (And oftentimes, something that gets really hyped up often ends in failure, as I've noticed with Mighty No. 9 even though it's a game and not a movie.)

      Delete
    5. @Andrew Shroy Sometimes, something doesn’t really have that much hype and it’s still a failure. Look at The Quiet Man, even though that is also a game and not a movie.

    6. Actually, I just thought up a better example, with no hype whatsoever. How about the GEICO Caveman sitcom?

Wasn't she kicked out of her home as a child once, or did she leave on her own? I forget which, but I recall Kaylyn talking a bit about this a while ago. It's clear she's had a very bad childhood and poor upbringing.
