E3 2014 Part 2: Wait, That's It?
Last time on IG’s E3 coverage!
MORE SKYLANDERS!
Sonic Boom looks amazing! Don’t you all agree?
I can’t decide between using my phone or using a microphone… Meh, it’s not like anyone will notice how terrible the sound is when I use my phone.
I don’t know what a Metal Gear Solid is, but I’m going to act like I do! There’s this all new power-up where you use a box!
This Zelda not developed by Nintendo is the right direction! More violence! More boobs! Less puzzles and actually trying to make me think!
And now, the continuation.
June 20th 2014
Yeaaaah, I kind of pulled the trigger on last week’s article. He posted three more videos that day. Oh well.
E3 2014 The Evil Within Video Game Interview
Really? This game? Huh, I guess we’re at the “Shit, I’ve only been talking about kids games! Here’s something matoor to remind you that I too am matoor” point of the videos.
Pretty sure Chris wouldn’t get why people are excited for this game (Shinji Mikami returns to horror!)
Boring ass interview is boring.
E3 2014 Dragon Age: Inquisition Video Game First Look Interview
Wait, this game too? What?
Right off the bat you can tell he has no clue about this series. In the description he says “the new sequel to the first Dragon Age game”. There’s a Dragon Age II Chris, I know people didn’t like it but it’s still there. I haven’t seen anything that says it’s no longer canon.
Interview is all generic shit, pointing out things he “noticed”. Hell, the video’s comments even bring this up, one of them laughing at how Chris clearly knows nothing about this series, as he keeps “noticing” things that were there since the first game!
Surprisingly, Bores actually replied to that comment saying:
“It looked cool so I asked for an interview”
Chris… just because you can do an interview, doesn’t mean you should. Here’s a screenshot in case he tries to deny it.
40 second Skylander stupid thing I don’t care…
I really don’t…
June 21st 2014
E3 2014 Gauntlet Reboot Video Game Interview
Here we go…
A few weeks back, my Facebook informant found a post asking Bores what his most anticipated game for E3 was. He replied with “this cool Gauntlet reboot”. Yeaaaaah… Look Chris, if you want to keep your audience, you have to be way more in tune with modern gaming. Nobody believes you’re a retro gamer, and you’re doing an even worse job as a modern one. Just try and put in effort.
The description has him upset that this is only coming to Steam, and he wants it on consoles. Boo hoo, get a gaming PC! … Which you should have since Shaolin Dave has told me that you played Left 4 Dead on Steam, where you acted like a complete scrub, accusing people of cheating. So why do you not talk about PC gaming more often?
Of course, this means that Bores will not be talking about it when it comes out. Just like 95% of the stuff he covers at E3
Just another boring interview… all about enemies, upgrades… usual boring shit.
E3 2014 Gauntlet Reboot Video Game Level 5 Gameplay
Video opens at his house, he goes on about how he’s a big fan of Gauntlet (yeah yeah), and then brings up his complaint that it’s on Steam.
“I’ve never played Steam, I don’t have a reason to be on Steam” That’s not what I’ve been told!
“I may have to change my ways just to play Gauntlet” Yeah I don’t see that happening.
Rest is gameplay.
June 23rd 2014
Skipped another day
Another damn Skylander video
This one is eight and a half minutes long, talking about the next game. Uggggh. And I still get the feeling there’s more.
And it’s gone now. What? Yeah, I remember this video being there but now it’s gone… maybe I was seeing things?
Or maybe I wasn’t as I looked back and noticed the 14 minute Skylander video I mentioned in the previous post is gone too. What is going on?
E3 2014 - The Voice of Skylanders, KAOS - Richard Horovitz Interview
… Oh, this is going to hurt.
He spelled his name wrong. It’s Horvitz not Horovitz. THIS ISN’T HARD!
I can’t expect much from this interview, it’s less than 2 minutes long.
What’s weird is that he spells his name correctly in the video. What the hell?
First part of the video is Horvitz doing some of his more popular voices. Zim, Billy, Daggett, and Alpha 5. It’s the funniest thing to ever appear in an IG video.
“How did you get into Skylanders?” “I auditioned” Chris Bores: Asking the hard hitting questions!
“Do they ask you to come back every week?” That’s… not how it works Chris. This isn’t a TV show, it’s an annual video game. It’s likely they bring him in once every few months for new dialogue.
Jeez, this was such a lame interview. What else is there?
E3 2014 - After Hours, Empty Expo Hall
… Really? A pointless video where you walk around the empty expo? What is this shit?
“Rounding up the last of my E3 videos” Wait, it’s over? But you barely covered anything!
What about list videos?
*waits until Friday* Nothing? I… I guess that’s how he ended E3. Not with a bang, but a whimper. An empty hall, a perfect analogy for his content in general.
No mention of Smash 4 at all, nothing on Bayonetta 2, No Man’s Sky, Bloodborne, Zelda Wii U. Hell, nothing on the conferences in general.
No best/worst lists either. Then again, we didn’t get them last year so it seemed unlikely we’d get them this year. Maybe he realized he couldn’t keep his promise of looking at every game featured on them… Probably the same reason he stopped doing the movie lists (that and he kept putting shitty movies high on the list).
Including the two Skylander videos he removed, but not including the articles he only posted on his site, Bores posted 42 E3 videos this year. A new record, only inflated by the fact 14 of those videos were Skylanders related! That’s a third of his coverage! And he wonders why he’s losing views and fans… Oh right, he believes his Skylanders videos do better than all his other stuff. Even though they clearly don’t. Hell, half the comments are saying they’re unsubscribing because they’re tired of the constant Skylanders.
Maybe that’s why he believes they’re “outperforming” his other videos, because all he has left is Skylanders fans. Going by the pitiful views though, that seems like a really REALLY small audience.
By the way, he’s blaming YouTube for his “slow output” in the last few months (according to my Facebook informant). Quit blaming YouTube Chris, the one clearly at fault is you. Either that or it’s just a bunch of excuses, especially since he’s been slow for years, not months.
Well, that’s all for now. Who knows what the future holds.
This is a good time to note that we're days away from the midpoint of 2014. I think we can at least forecast that it won't be as disastrous as 2013, with the game, the ghost movie, the website overhaul and Skylanders fetish all turning out ruinously awful; the storyline conclusion is the only development that seems as epically bad as we expect from Bores (the Metal Gear "box" situation also qualifies).
ReplyDeleteReleasing the next episode of HOVG would be a great way to pick up this years' profile and help us toward a good solid bottom-ten list on New Years' Eve- it would also keep Bores from having a long white beard by the time he covers the NES.
At this rate he's going to be needing a connection to the internet from the afterlife by the time he gets to the NES. :P
DeleteI think the failed Skylanders spinoff channel and the JewWario Facebook comment also deserve to be near the top.
DeleteHe didn't do HOVG last year either. I'm starting to think it's dead.
Delete@itsmrben I agree. "There's not that many of us left" is my top. No, Chris. There's not that many of YOU left.
DeleteA fan on Facebook asked Chris when/if he will start posting more content. Chris replied: "YouTube hasn't really been what it used to be so I've slowed down over the last few months as my time goes to other areas of work that helps pay the bills. I'll have more in the future, just at a slower pace." Personally, even though his statement is kind of vauge, I'll give him a tad bit of credit for admitting that he is in fact doing stuff outside of Youtube, but that still doesn't make up for Bore's lack of activity (seriously, why didn't he say something about this earlier when he was getting bashed for doing nothing?). Thoughts?
ReplyDeleteVery mature of him to admit, even between the lines, that the Irate Gamer is not a career. And sad in a broader way, because him growing up would be the death blow of this blog. The coming months will tell much, I suppose.
DeleteI wonder if he's doing this intentionally just to piss BatDan off. Like he knows that a lack of video game knowledge pisses him off, so he continues to do it on purpose just to rile him up.
ReplyDeleteI dunno. While Bores has shown to be very petty, as shown in his very one-sided rivalry with AVGN, he seems too egotistical to pull off that sort of trick. He absolutely refuses to acknowledge his own mistakes, so I don't think of him as the type of person who would intentionally use his stupidity as a weapon.
DeleteI'm actually excited for Hyrule Warriors, I know Dynasty Warriors get a lot of complaints for being repetitive but this Zelda one is clearly being made for fanservice mostly, so I can't wait to play it. As a spin off, it's not bad.
ReplyDeleteAt least least year Chris made an E3 Conference recap video, even if Nintendo didn't actually have a live conference.
ReplyDeleteSpeak of which, were the 2013 E3 Nintendo Direct and the 2014 Digital Event broadcasted at E3 itself, as in people gathering at a hall and watching the videos?
You know I have been thinking about this for a while ( I really need to learn how to start sentences better than that line) but here is a little game that I would like to try. Let's see just how many things that lead up to the video game crash of 1983 applies today. I will name off most, if not all of the causes of it and let's see which ones apply, or might apply, today.
ReplyDeleteGame designers not getting any sort of credit for what they made. Atari believing selling it's consoles for as cheap as the could believing the games would make up the difference. A glut of poor quality games that got rushed out for whatever reason. Far too many choices without anything to back up those choices. Shovelware ( not much I can add to this one.) Almost impossible to discern the good games from the bad. Gaming being seen as just a fad.
There's something that a lot of people forget. The Crash only affected home consoles, arcades and PCs were unaffected. Or, more accurately, I know that PC gaming experienced a boost due to the lack of competition. They didn't have Atari messing things up and games were cheaper, and there may have been other factors. Video games were never in any real danger of dying out in the United States.
DeleteThat said, I'll play. Everyone who contributes to a game gets fully credited, so that's out. There are plenty of shovelware games, but magazines (what few remain) and internet reviews mean that savvy customers don't need to waste much money. Selling consoles for a loss is actually a legitimate strategy, provided you don't overdo it (Sony used it to great success in 1995). There might be too many choices, with three home consoles, two major handhelds, and PC games. With the sheer number of exclusives, that could be a problem. At least it's better than the dozen or so home consoles in 1982.
Oh, I am very much aware of what happened. But I still find it funny how a very vocal minority of pc gamers ( you probably know who I am talking about) will say that pc gaming is superior to all yet Japan doesn't care much for it.
DeleteThe whole selling console on games alone bit Atari hard since it was a combination of the first few causes. With developers not getting credit for their games in any matter they decided to make their own companies which did not really help with the rushed and poor quality games. Doesn't really help any that their was pretty much no quality control at all in that time. Also gaming magazines were a lot bigger bag then but their was one small, problem newstands didn't really have them on display. Also while having too much choice there is that vocal ( and sometimes very annoying) minority that clamours for no exclusives ( although some of them will essentially admit that Nintendo could not comply with such a thing because of the circumstances surrounding it.) Never you mind that such a thing would be essentially slitting the throats of Microsoft's and Sony's gaming divisions since they don't make their own games.
The empty E3 video looked a lot like the turnout for his Haunted Investigators movie!
ReplyDelete*rimshot*
It might be far fetched, but I was tthinking his end of E3 video was a spinoff of an Adam The Woo video.
ReplyDeleteI really must be a glutton for punishment. Recently I have been lurking around the internet wondering a few things about the general idiocy surrounding the pc vs console war ( probably the most petty thing I have ever seen.) I find it funny how one person said that he hates that people are ignorant about things but makes it obvious that he thinks the ignorance is coming solely from console gamers. I also find it interesting that it really seems like some pc gamers while not vocalizing it seems to fear that they will become irrelevant. Basically what I am saying is anyone remember gaming on Mac? Very interesting how some people really don't notice when history repeats when it actually does repeat.
ReplyDeleteNot sure which version of Mac. I just remember back in the day when the majority of PC games were incompatable with Macs and at least 90% of the games you could play on a Mac were educational, although some memorable like Carmen Sandiego and Oregon Trail.
DeleteWell, here is the thing gaming stalled on Mac because it was ridiculously easy to pirate games on it. Which is what I am getting at since a possible reason that some pc gamers are nervous is that with the rampant piracy ( hard to be objective with this bit considering when one developer released a game without DRM almost all copies out were pirated) might eventually lead to the death of pc gaming just like Mac ( since a lot of pc gamers were originally one the side of pc and can't really get over that even that "war" was incredibly stupid.)
DeleteWhat I am getting at is in this current climate of gaming developers constantly take the fall for gamers seemingly becoming more and more entitled to anything and everything to do with gaming. Bores is simply a symptom of such a climate. Now I am not admitting Bores is a gamer, I am saying that Bores has a tendency to represent the worst of a fandom. Basically I am saying that gamers can be insufferable ( which is very ironic considering how originally it was supposed to be very accepting of any sort of people.)
Off topic, but did anyone see the new Transformers movie? It honestly put me to sleep near the end. I guess it was OK. I mean, it was a far cry better than the first MB Transformers film, which IMO is not only the absolute worst adaptation of Transformers but also one of the worst movies ever made. They basically took a cartoon franchise that was relatively mature compared to all the popular cartoon series in the 80s, tried to make it more appealing to the young adult demographic, yet ironically dumbed it down conserably with immature fart jokes and the like, rivaling with a Happy Madison movie in being complete and utter sheer stupidity.
ReplyDeleteMy Facebook informant found Bores giving his thoughts on "Amiibo".
ReplyDelete"Are those the Mario figures?" ... Chris, you're a moron. Amiibo is Nintendo in general, not just Mario. Hell, of the 15 confirmed Amiibos, only 4 are Mario related (5 if you count Donkey Kong). You're part of the disgusting thought process of "Nintendo is only Mario, they need to make new IPs" that's been purveying the internet for ages.
Then he says "Kids will love it". Oh please, we know you're going to drop all your money on them. You're transparent.
I had a brief conversation with someone who thought Nintendo was only Mario and Zelda. I made the mistake of correcting him by naming Metroid, Starfox, Pokemon and Fire Emblem as other illustrious titles and franchises. He just wanted to pick a fight. I left the conversation after the post that clued me in but I doubt anyone was on my side.
DeleteMaybe it's just me, but the shear amount of fear his fans seem to have of him really upsets me. They are paralyzed with terror at the idea of criticizing him. Anything that might be perceived as negative must be filtered through a promise of "totally a fan" and at LEAST an apology or two to go along with it.
ReplyDeleteWhy do you like this guy if he does nothing but terrify you? Why do they stick around if they know he'll snap at them if they so much as take one misstep in pleasing his ego?
It's quite disheartening...
Even though this was in the comments section of the last post somewhat, I feel I should bring it up here. Philips might possibly ban the sales of wii u with the bullshit patent claims.
ReplyDeleteIt's incredibly unlikely that Philips actually wants to kill the Wii U. Much more likely is that Nintendo would have to pay substantial back royalties.
DeleteOf course, this could all become moot if Ninty's appeal is heard by a judge that actually understands what technology is.
Philips has expressed a desire to ban the wii u ( and the wii) from being sold it is just that even with the UK one won they have held off on it their. Most likely they are waiting until they can ban it in most major countries. Not to mention the fact that the thing for the patent ( I don't know to call the picture for the patent) makes it painfully obvious that it is for a universal remote.
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteThat's because it wasn't a video at all. It was only an article at his site.
DeleteSo...Egoraptor made a Sequelitis for The Legend of Zelda. From what I could glean from this and the Mega Man episode, I don't think he has much patience for broad stories and tutorials and only wants to PLAY the game, not sit through text and cutscenes. Don't get me wrong, not every game needs an epic story or tutorial, in fact I agree that Mega Man really doesn't need instructions to play it (if only someone told the developers during X6...urgh). However, There are some games that need them, and Zelda to me is no exception. Also, pointless Skyward Sword bashing is pointless.
ReplyDeleteI disagree with basically everything he says about Ocarina of Time. To me, it sounds like he's whining about the transition from 2D gaming to 3D gaming. There's nothing wrong with preferring retro games over new ones, but to try and critically analyze things when you're so obviously biased towards one kind of game is just really dumb.
DeleteWow, I tried watching it and not only was the starting joke hypocritical and idiotic most of the humuor near the start ( making this post before seeing all of it by the way) is simply not funny because of how unsubtle it is. What I mean by hypocritical is that with it he is assuming that most of the comments are going to be about people thinking he diminishes the value of Ocarina of Time and says not for them to be close-minded.
DeleteWhich is funny, because he's obviously closed minded and biased towards A Link to the Past. I really just do not agree with most everything Egoraptor says about video games, and it really ticks me off that people hang on his every word and treat him like he's some amazing game analyzer/designer
DeleteYeah, he also shows a general lack of knowledge of how the enemies operate and say most of fighting them is waiting. Problem is when he gets to deku scrubs he is right next to them.
DeleteHere is how you fight most of the enemies he has problems with. Wolfos wait for them to get close to attack and dodge that will leave their tail open which when hit kills them in one strike. Deku scrubs get far enough away from them to get them out and use a deku nut and they are done ( note do not do this with the three near Gohma since it might hit the other two). Stalfos wait for them to strike and use a deku nut to stun them ( since they will block it with a shield unless they are attacking.) Lizalfos well let me just put this bluntly don't be a moron and target the one not near you if their is two since they take turns and switch who will go after you when hit. The Gerudo is essentially and enhanced Wolfos wait for her to strike and counter. The clams just have a shield up while they attack and they can't do anything to you. Funny how immediately after he says that he doesn't bring up how Aganihm is much the same way since only his first and fifth attack is set in stone the rest is up to the Random Number Gods.
I also find it funny how he mentions that Ocarina of Times dungeons practically revolve around the dungeon item. Apparently he forgot that for the most part Link to the Past did that too.
DeleteHere is a rundown of the items and what they are used for in Link to the Past. Lantern used to even get to the Sanctuary. Bow and Arrows are needed to even kill the Armos Knights. Can't get to Lanmola without the Mitts ( not to mention that you have to wait for boss to get out of the ground to do damage.) The moon pearl is required to even beat the bloody game. The Master Sword is used to reflect Aganihm's magic back at him and to get to him ( no I am not counting the bug net for that.) Need the hammer to beat Helmasaur and get to him ( also use arrows on the giant glowing hit me light on his head.) Flippers are needed to do Swamp Palace and hookshot is needed to get around the dungeon and beat Arghus. Fire rod is need to get to Mothula ( the epitome of unfair difficulty by the way) as well as to beat Trinexx along with the ice rod ( that the game only tells you about once and makes it sound like it is optional.) Titan's mitt is useless except to get the Tempered Sword. Cane of Somaria has only one use outside of puzzle solving and even then only what is essentially a Rom-Hack used that one. Blue Tunic get's outclassed by the red tunic. Need silver arrows to beat Ganon but the game does not tell you really where to find them.
I couldn' finish the video. Once he started ranting about Skyward Sword ( which most people seem to forget that most Zelda games have done the things people complain about by the way) I just said forget this. Now to finally say this little bit, it is not surprising that he thinks so lowly of Ocarina of Time since he makes it seem like his first game is A Link to the Past. What I am saying is that when most gamers play their first game they grow a somewhat unhealthy attachment to it and if that attachment goes unnoticed they will eventually ignore all the flaws it have or even try to downplay some of the worst ones.
DeleteWhat's funny is that ProJared shared the video on Facebook and about 90% of the comments were highly negative. Most of them pointed out the extreme bias Arin had towards modern and retro games. I don't know what Jared thought of the video since he didn't provide a description, but I'll tell ya this, it probably wasn't what he expected.
DeleteWasn't what I was expecting either. While I did know about some complaints about the one before this I didn't take it seriously considering the source ( the guy is still wrong though.) I expected him to critically analyze both, when he added ( pretty much under his breath by the way) for it's time about OoT I just knew it was going to be even more painful than I thought. Basically what I am saying is that I am of the mind that you really cannot critically analyze something with something while both ignoring when the two things do something and to use hyperbole to back up what you say. Also the rant thing was definitely uncalled for and is way to reminiscent of bores. since it at first looked like it was going to be a joke ( eevn though the first time he did it had absolutely no humour to it) and then he did it one too many times before culminating in said rant.
DeleteI meant more of Jared not expecting the negative comments. I went to his Twitter account and he liked the video. I am fine with that because there's nothing wrong with liking it if someone has found some genuine merit to it. Really, the problem is that Arin is impatient, and that's a harmful mindset when it comes to most games. There are games where that mindset works, like Mega Man and Mario, but Zelda is not that type of game.
DeleteYeah, he made it blatantly clear that he has patience problems around the halfway point of the video. But, yes everyone is entitled to their opinions it just that I get very annoyed when you try to use that opinion to bludgeon people you disagree with.
DeleteI feel I should explain that last statement. It was not directed at anyone just a general thing.
DeleteYeah I really can't watch that video because I know it'll be Arin's standard arrogant and close-minded view of pretty much anything post-1996 or so. Seriously, if I didn't know better I'd think Jon left Game Grumps because he was tired of being beaten over the head with Arin's opinions until Jon just agrees to get him to shut up. Of course Jon's general dismissal of ALttP irked me as well but I doubt he'd be as arrogant as Arin about it.
DeleteI am perfectly willing to admit that OoT isn't perfect, much like I am with ALttP. Both are brilliant games with aspects that I could, if I chose to, tear them apart with. But really they are minor things given how much fun I have had with both of them, seeing as they both compete in my head as my favorite games of all time (though EarthBound is making strides towards that distinction).
What really pissed me off about the video though wasn't Arin's opinion but my friend who I've been friends with for 10+ years and one of the things we agreed on was OoT and ALttP are both two of the greatest games ever. Then shortly after the video was released he suddenly changes his opinion to OoT is just "good". Then he got mad at me for calling him out on his hypocrisy.
Finally, I find it funny that Arin complains about being "hand held" by modern games but when he makes fart jokes over the cut-scenes or just plain ignores them, he complains that the game didn't tell him what he needs to do. As bad as Sonic '06 is, the game did at least give you some direction, poor as it was.
If I may go on a tangent, I actually like Sonic 06. Yeah it's a mess but I can't bring myself to hate a Sonic game. Same goes with Shadow the Hedgehog; it's a terrible game but I just can't hate it.
DeleteWait, did Arin get lost during Sonic 06? I never watched Game Grumps because I wasn't interest, but if they got lost, that is a massive achievement given the amount of times the game reminds you of where to go.
I couldn't point out specifics (it was an over 100 episode series......seriously) but having watched every one as they released (also, seriously) I remember more than few moments of him and Jon complaining about cut-scenes and completely missing what the objective was and then griping that the game was being obtuse. It was kind of fascinating really.
DeleteI could possibly excuse that, considering how difficult it is to concentrate on a game when someone is talking to you (as demonstrated in several of Yahtzee's Let's Drown Outs), but between that and his Sequelitis on Mega Man, I think he just doesn't like tutorials and being told where to go. He has a point about tutorials not belonging in Mega Man, but I don't think he fully understands how much more complex games have gotten since the transition to 3D. My favorite example is Metal Gear Solid; the game has a relatively steep learning curve for newcomers with its not-so-obvious controls and the game has a lot of cutscenes telling you what to do next. In fact, as much as I love Metal Gear Awesome, I think Arin sucked at Metal Gear Solid considering the running joke was that he would die and THEN be told what to do, when the game ALWAYS told you what danger there was.
DeleteYou know I just had and idea ( yes it somewhat stems for the recent Egoraptor video, why do you ask?) It would be kind of interesting for someone ( possibly me but that probably would not work since I have a tendency to get distracted, shall we say, from the main point) to actually critically dissect the Legend of Zelda series and see kind of what has been repeated through the years and what has been done exceptionally well. I am very likely wording this terribly.
ReplyDeleteI don't think you are. In fact, I think that's a really interesting idea. Don't talk yourself down, you can make this work. As for your worries about going off-topic or rambling... well, if you think that'd be an issue, that's what editing (both for script and video) are for. I'd personally love to see what you'd do.
DeleteI believe Yungtown mentioned wanting to work on a project similar to that at some point on his Tumblr
DeleteYeah I do have a tendency to think a lot lower of myself than I really should. Doing this would also help with my editing skills. In fact I will give it a try and the first part of Zelda up for dissection will be the dungeon aspect of them. Just need a name to call it though. Would also probably help if I finish playing through the last two games I have yet to of the series.
DeleteCall it "The Book of Hyrule."
DeleteAnd finished the second ROB part.

Do Skylander figures give Chris his jollies like the 80's give the ROBOT CHICKEN staff?
ReplyDeleteI think he's more obsessed with Skylanders than I am kamen rider
DeleteI think Spoony is starting to go down a Bores-like path:
ReplyDeleteFrom http://www.rangerboard.com/showpost.php?p=4726031&postcount=514
"Talking of Spoony, he uploaded part 2 of that Ultima game today on Youtube, and at the end, the Black Knight talks about how his trolls are behind the recent stuff Spoony's been dealing with in real life- the #SpoonyHatesEverything meme, the Youtube comments and the continuous asking for Let's Play Deadly Premonition. It seems odd, since it feels more like either Noah is acknowledging those recent events, or whining about them by having them connected to this villain."
I think the difference here is that half of Spoony's fanbase is generally antagonistic. Think the fans of Super Mario Bros. Z annoying Alvin Earthworm to death about it, only make them hateful. I will admit the joke was similar to Bores' but I think Spoony has a better excuse than simply "haters."
DeleteYeah, there's a part of Spoony's fandom are a bit on the less than sane side. I think it's more a jab at that particular bunch of crazies/trolls as opposed to his entire fanbase.
DeleteFor what it's worth, I've heard that the reason Spoony has unruly fans is because Spoony himself abuses his own fanbase, so it's sort of a "what comes around, goes around" scenario, I guess.
DeleteAnybody up for a good laugh?
ReplyDeleteChris is going to be hosting a ghost communication workshop in September at a community college in Ohio. Apparently George Nooey of coast-to-coast will be there too.
Only $25!
http://www.twitch.tv/rtxlive/b/544450667
"For the very first time, you will learn secrets about the afterlife that have been undocumented until now."
DeleteSounds like the multitude of empty promises hyping his ghost movie. I hope someone at the event calls him on it.
Is that Coast to Coast guy really going to be there? Someone should contact him and let him know about Bores' bull, especially that thing a while back where he was claiming he owned the guy on radio, even though anyone who actually listened to the broadcast would know better.
DeleteOn the other hand, if he's already aware, I imagine that'd be the only reason he'd even consider going, to call Bores out. I sure hope someone does.
I know I'm going to get all kinds of flack for this comment, but I'm really hoping Chris reviews the Megaman X series. Yes, it's obviously going to be Chris taking one of the best game series with a launch title that was arguably the best game of all time and attempt to point out its "flawls". Yes, the so-called "flawls" are going to be stupid and very minor nit-picky shit (e.g. I bet he'll have a 'fusterating' time figuring out how to reach 'impossible' platforms and, may be far fetched, but I wouldn't be surprised if he bitched that Dr. Wily isn't the main boss). Yes, he's obviously going to cheat to get to the end. Yes, it will be chock-full of stupid jokes and references. But hey, that's what we expect and enjoy best, along with a review by BatDan.
ReplyDeleteThat's assuming Chris knows about Mega Man X. The average person is probably unaware that there are a dozen Mega Man subseries, and Chris barely knows anything about gaming as it is.
DeleteHe has a Megaman X poster on the wall of his bedroo, er, I mean "set".
DeleteAnyone know how to get Four Sword Adventures to work on an emulator without the sound getting desynced or simply cutting out? I am wondering since to do that video series I am working on it would be best if I had first-hand experiences with the things in question from all games. In case anyone is wondering I messed up a what I said a bit and actually have to complete three Zelda games to have played them all, for those keeping score it is the original, Adventure of Link, and the aforementioned game.
ReplyDeleteaccording to what I have read. Use the latest dolphin (that's the name of the emulator) and pray to god that you're computer doesn't suffer any slowdown or the sound will screw up.
DeleteThat said I'm currently helping people with bugs on xenonauts. The door to the final boss room doesn't open for me! What a tease!
The funny thing is my computer is actually so not up to the task of being consistent with it that sometimes it will happen immediately. Of course the thing about the desync is that is causes the frame rate to be terrible making it hard to stomach at the start of the game much less the more action oriented parts that come later. Guess I will just have to go without sound while playing.
DeleteDolphin does not like Tingle apparently. Anytime I try to go to the part of the level that contains Tingle and it just crashes. I at least got the framerate to behave somewhat though.
DeleteAlso, after watching AVGN's review of Bayou Billy as well as several of his most recent reviews, he ironically reminded me of Elvis during his late years - He was fat, had mutton chop sideburns, and was incredibly dull and mundane compared to his former self.
ReplyDeleteHaven't watched it yet... Because it didn't know it existed. But reading the description "This is NOT an AVGN episode. It is a special bonus video. It was written and edited by Pat"
DeleteI really wish James would start writing the episodes... assuming he did that back in the old days.
I think that James is focusing more on the movie while trying to keep the fans happy by releasing content. I remember there was a spell of boring Nostalgia Critics leading up to To Boldly Flee because Doug was more focused on getting that done, so the same is most likely happening to James.
DeleteYou mean with how all the NC reviews leading up to TBF were all crossovers of some sort, and weren't Walker just going into a review solo?
DeleteWow I have a poor memory of what led up to To Boldly Flee. I don't remember much of the crossovers, besides Todd in the Shadows and JesuOtaku but I do remember that the episodes leading up to it were kinda dull. I like to think he was putting more effort into To Boldly Flee, and given how great it was I'd say that it was worth it.
DeleteIt was partially that, and I think it was also to give the other people on the site a chance to do a crossover with the Critic before the character was retired.
DeleteI miss Third Rate Gamer. It's been a long time since we've had a good IG parody.
ReplyDeleteIn my dream pop culture universe, 3RG would come out of retirement, if only once, to make a movie-length episode satirizing the last three years of IG.
DeleteAn IG update in response to a fan on FB:
ReplyDelete"RIght now the show is off my projection schedule since I have a lot of catch up to do with Irate the 80s and HOV (both of which I've started filming already) Also I know some people complain about my Skylander vids but they get the most views out of anything I do so those will continue too."
I like that he says that he knows the everyone's sick of the Skylanders and then immediately says he won't do anything to fix it. Reminds me of that recent Jimquisition video about EA and Ubisoft always apologizing even though they continue doing the thing they're apologizing for.
Delete"I know what I'm doing is wrong, but I'm going to do it anyway" - The Mysterious Mr. Enter why talking about characters acknowledging their own maliciousness in terrible post movie spongebob episodes.
DeleteAdmitting that you know its wrong and then doing it again is really quite pathetic. FYI Bores, your skylander videos don't get more views then your regular content, its just that your content requires some thinking to produce. And here Bores finally shows innovation by completely removing thought from the equation. A steady hand for Chris Bores everyone! He streamlined the process of making shit on youtube.
I also find it interesting that the fan asked Bores if he could do a second story arc. Granted if Bores actually put effort, then the ideas that the fan mentioned could have potential, but with the way the last arc turned out...... God knows how much we don't need another
Delete"Both of which I've started filming already." Yeah, keep telling yourself that Bores.
DeleteYou don't believe him, Zelda? We make fun of his videos because they're bad, not because he doesn't make them.
Delete@Harrod My point is that it's been years since we've had a History of Video Games video, and since this is Bores, he's probably lying through his teeth.
DeleteGeologic delays in his series are a Bores trademark. There's no way to know whether he's begun shooting, but I don't see why it should be ruled out. Though I wouldn't be shocked if for him, "filming" includes capturing footage from other peoples' documentaries.
DeleteIn any case, this next episode will be the Atari 2600 episode, a watershed era in gaming that Bores will find amazing ways to get wrong. Who wants to place odds that he'll greenscreen himself into Pitfall?
I wonder if him getting bitchslapped around by Ralph Baer had anything to do with his delay on HOV.
Delete@Harrod
Delete"Geologic delays in his series are a Bores trademark"
ah geez are you saying that Chris Bores is so hugely lazy (and huge in other respects) that his delays must be discussed geologically?
@Kill
DeleteThat was the exact intent of my hyperbole.
@Harrod
DeleteThen I have no qualms with your statement. Chris is almost certainly large enough to be a geological land mark.
@Kill
DeleteI think you have confused geology with geography.
Isn't Chris Bores stubborn like a rock? Because a geological landmark is a landmark that is made out of natural stone formations... or am I confused...?
DeleteGreat this is sounding like the intro to duty calls.
You know, back in late 2009-2011, Chris seemed to at least give a shit about his fans and his videos. Sure the videos still sucked, but when he was on screen, he did seem to enjoy what he was doing and he did seem to care about it. But after about somewhere in 2012-presant, not only did the videos still suck, but Chris became really tight lipped about everything, got lazier and overall just seemed to stop caring as much about his fans or his videos.
ReplyDeletehe has fans?
DeleteApparently so. Just like Obama still has supporters.
Delete@d4iven. He has over 2,000 friends on facebook and almost 146,000 subs on youtube. So yes, I would say he has fans. Odd thing is that it seems that a majority of them aren't children under the age of 11. Full grown adults with perfectly functioning minds and who are a success in life actually think his story arcs, "history lessons", ghost documentaries and his "Irate" videos are good (pfft)
ReplyDelete"Perfectly functioning minds" and "success in life" seem rather presumptuous to me.
DeleteUh his videos have quite a few dislikes and no where near 146k views. I'm pretty sure that the full grown adult statement is frivolous at best.
DeleteThanks though, Tom, for putting "history lessons" in quotes. Saves us the trouble.
DeleteWhich I guess theres nothing wrong with them having an opinion. They seem to admit that Bores is a hack and everything, but they still say "screw the evidence! I still like this guy and his videos." We here on this website are just a group of people who happen to hate his videos. Theres nothing we can do to prevent people from liking Bores, :L
