Chris dropped a bombshell of an announcement yesterday.
On Facebook, he stated that he's considering retiring from YouTube to focus more on his paranormal crap, claiming that "interesting prospects" have been coming his way.
I have trouble believing either of these things, but let's focus more on his possible retirement.
This could mean anything really.
One: He could be serious.
Views are absolute crap, most people believe he's a joke, or don't even know he still makes videos. His "three videos a week" experiment backfired hard, couldn't even keep up with two. I do have a theory that after the "opening up" video, he got a bunch of new "fans" and he thought they would watch everything he put out. Except he released lazy complacent crap and they all left in droves, leaving only us, the critics, and the few remaining fans.
He kept trying so many new things and nothing worked.
For retro reviews, his thought process was "a lot of people do bad games, I'll fill the niche of bashing classic games!" That backfired immensely.
He tried applying a "crazy" style to various videos, like his movie reviews and IG Neo. People hated these, soooo many dislikes. His Splatoon review in particular got mocked by Cringe Blog and Retsupurae.
And then he started doing all these product reviews, shilling for shit nobody would actually use. This was just sad.
Two: He could be fishing for attention.
He could just be saying this so people could go "No don't go, we want you to keep making videos". The last desperate resort of a falling internet star.
Three: He confused "retirement" with "hiatus" again.
Remember last time he said he retired? Only he suddenly came back with the "three videos a week" promise. We've long established that Chris is an idiot and has a tenuous grasp of the English language (especially if his book is anything to go by). He could have confused the two again.
So, what does this mean for the blog? Of course, I operate on whatever videos Chris puts out. If he releases something worth talking about, I'll be here. If not, well then I'll stop too. No reason to keep going with nothing new to talk about.
The only thing we can do is wait and see.
I do wish there was someone close to Chris I could contact. For someone so public online, he has so few connections.
EDIT: Seems the answer was Number Two. He just posted on Facebook something along the lines of "Thanks for all the comments! Looks like I'm going to stick around". Yeah, he was fishing for attention. Blah.
It's probably 2, but then we have seen how dedicated he is to this paranormal bullshit. Not sure what to make of this.
ReplyDeleteIf it is 1, I'm honestly curious to see if we get a farewell video. I'm also curious if he'll try to put out a grand finale for the IG show. Knowing him, he'd probably choose to go out by bashing the hell out of the first Zelda, or Metroid, or possibly even the first Super Mario Bros.
ReplyDeleteI think it's option 2.
ReplyDeleteThen again, Bores *is* pushing 40 so he may have realized that it's time to do something serious to warrant he'll have money when he retires.
Also, he lives with a woman with kids, no? She may be pushing him to do something that makes them more money.
I guess we'll see.
Maybe he got an endorsement offer from Skippy?
ReplyDelete"When I'm on a ghost hunt I only have 90 minutes to have a conversation with the dead. That means I have to make a great first impression with the spirits. I bring Skippy peanut butter on all of my ghost hunts. It's like freaking catnip for ghosts.
Skippy peanut butter- So good even the dead can't resist."
maybe he just wants to be a tour guide now
ReplyDeleteIf he actually does retire and you stop making posts, will you at least keep the site up? I've enjoyed this blog immensely for several years now.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I don't speak for Dan, Blogspot is a free service from Google, and old blogs stay up unless the admin actively removes them.
DeleteDon't worry, the blog will stay up.
DeleteI hope the blog stays up, it would be bad if the evidence gathered would be lost.
ReplyDeletespeaking of, could you link me to the post that showscases evidence of the Gametrailers Out nerd the Nerd contest, cant seem to find it.
http://irategamersucks.blogspot.com/2015/09/more-pointless-history.html
DeleteBottom of this post.
Thank you
DeleteIf (and only if) he ends up retiring, can we get at least a couple of farewell posts from you? I suggest the first one could be a Top 10 Worst IG Moments of all time, and the second one could be a really long farewell message to all the people who viewed your blog, thanking everyone for a wild ride, wishing those who decided to stop coming to this blog, (e.g. Micharion) and your final thoughts. It'd be a fitting way to end your blogging career. But those are just my thoughts. What are yours BatDan?
ReplyDeleteWe'll still be able to keep up with his ghosthunting; maybe monthly posts or something would be apt. But some kind of farewell ceremony for 'the big project' would be nice. And even then, Bores might always attempt another comeback if the ghosts aren't paying the bills.
DeleteI'm thinking 2 or 3; personally. Least the ghost-hunting stuff has material even if he may have finally realized this isn't the way to do online videos and he can no longer convince the uninformed he's a gamer when he clearly isn't. Then again, it could be a trap to get people to wait for his Artistic License History of Video Games on the Intellivision (at which point the NX or the Playstation 5 could be out; to say nothing about Microsoft's 9th generation console or the emerging market of mobile games);
ReplyDeleteSo it was 2. Damn. While AmazonBotGate is still my worst moment; this just made the list along with his schedule slip, his "Crazy" "reviews" of Splatoon and Inside Out; and going back to bashing classic games for petty reasons (with Donkey Kong being my personal worst offender, closely followed by Duck Tales, Kid Icarus, Punch-Out and Mega Man). The Artistic License History of Video Games bullshit is on there too (still thinking the NX will be well into its lifespan before he reaches the NES).
DeleteYou guys should check out Chris' recent Facebook post!
ReplyDeleteLooks like it was Number 2.
While I prayed to God it was Number 1, I really saw Number 2 coming.
DeleteI shouldn't be surprised.
DeleteLooks like Jerry wants to suck Chris's dick.
DeleteI'm sure a lot of people would love to take a Number 2 on Bores right now.
ReplyDeleteWow, Bores said he is going to retire and the following day, he says "I'm sticking around! I totally fooled you guys haha!"
ReplyDeleteScrew you Bores. That wasn't a joke, that's a shameless stunt for attention. The same way Activision made fake news statements that Singapore is attacked and under martial law in their Twitter advertising campaign for Call of Duty: Black Ops 3.
Whew!
ReplyDeleteI remeber reading a comic about a dude who have no singing talent decided to fake retire just so he can get attention and countinue his horrible singing hobby. The thing about it is that THE COMIC SAID IT'S A BAD THING. Jesus Christ I hope this piece of shit attention fishing will get into the year end list
ReplyDeleteDan, I think you now need to make a Top 20 worst IG moments list. In other words, you'll have no problem making a Top 10 this year. This incident is a good example.
ReplyDeleteI'm just going to leave this here....

Ugh. Personally, his stigma of ripping off James was never one of my biggest pet peeves with him. The canyons in research, bad acting, lousy writing; gaming incompetence and total allergy to criticism are five I can list. As for HVGN: his SNES Power Rangers review was the first one I saw, and he liked the game despite not being a big fan of the show (he said he was more into Batman: The Animated Series in those days). Chris claimed to be fan; then got numerous things wrong (such as claiming Jason's special move was a roar when it was really a flame attack) and made many of the same mistakes as his Contra reviews (such as deliberately jumping into enemies or obstacles without swinging his weapon and falling into chasms on purpose). Needless to say; I still think that atrocious "finale" needs to be riffed (though the Genesis and Sega CD versions would have to be on another outlet besides YouTube thanks to Boring Man's stolen Power Rangers footage).
DeleteSeconded Steven, the difference between Chris and Derek is that Derek made the HVGN as a love letter to James, not as an attempt to piggyback off his success. I appreciated his efforts to bring some under-appreciated games into the limelight, heck, it was his video on Sweet Home that got me interested into playing it. I was saddened when he was announcing the character's retirement, as there was never a proper crossover between him and James, but I was glad that he still reviews underrated classics as himself. Bottom line, Chris WISHES he was in Derek's shoes.
DeleteNo problem with referencing or playing homage to someone else's work. Some of the best stuff wasn't all that original. Sonic’s purpose was just to be Sega's Mario. “TMNT” started as a “Daredevil” parody. “Star Wars” emulated the Japanese movie “The Hidden Fortress”. The creators off all these openly admit their influences and praise them.
DeleteBut denying the connection, or accusing them of ripping you off, that just makes you an asshole.
@Mikeyfan93, actually Derek & James DID have a crossover, sorta, Derek aka HVGN was in Board James episode Episode 13 of Loopin Louie, and so was Angry Joe in there too.
Deletethere's a difference between ripping off someone and being inspired by someone. derek is the latter. he routinely calls the AVGN his "big brother" and does so in such a way that you can tell he respects him immensely.
Deleteand then there was of course the board james ep where they played loopin louie. if james had a problem with him, he wouldn't have even let him sit down, let alone have him on camera.
can anyone say the same about bores?
Looks like he didn't fool goodreads.com
ReplyDeleteAll the fake 5-star reviews were removed, leaving only the single real (and overly-generous) 2-star review from Kevin J.J. Carpenter
VICTORY!
DeleteGood. Let's hope those fake 5-star reviews never return.
DeleteGlad to see that Amazon has standards! This kind of crud shouldn't be allowed to get away. On the other hand, I'll miss Ronnie's review, but, oh well!
Delete^-^
Good reads isn't Amazon.
DeleteAmazon still has many of the fake reviews up.
Don't worry, Ixey5, I preserved Ronnie's review in image form.
Deletethe comments chris's fans say make me facepalm so much like those comments where its like "keep making reviews, unlike a certain someone who just does lazy lets play videos" like, what?! Because there totally wasn't just Monster Madness all october, Board James in the process of being finished, working on a halloween episode to tie in with the Board James storyline, etc. You don't see James trying to do "WACKY REVIEWS GONE WRONG!" videos which are only 2 minutes like bores.
ReplyDeleteI know this is gonna sound weird, but part of me is actually kind of glad Chris isn't retiring. I just have to much fun reading and talking about him, even though he is terrible.
ReplyDeleteThat's where I am. Bores is like the Ed Wood of the Internet- an interesting case study in unchecked ambition. When people talk about his videos raising their blood pressure, I wonder why they keep watching them (though I do understand the sense of outrage). The thoughtless and dishonest things he says are certainly not defensible, but I believe they hurt him far more than anyone else, especially in the long run.
DeleteThere are, to me, myriad reasons not to blow a gasket and spew bile at him. In addition to the above, he's a fellow human being who has not specifically wronged me, he seems a bit dim so it would be like cruelty to animals, and maybe the biggest factor of all, it's the Internet. You basically lose the moment you fly off the handle and scream.
Even more broadly, there's over seven billion people in the world. Put conservatively, millions of them are going to be nutcakes. And a lot of them have access to the Internet. This kind of thing is a fact of life we might as well integrate into our experience of the universe. Those who feel injured by Bores' videos but can't walk away may have their own issues to confront, though I'll fall short of saying they're as bad as Bores' major malfunctions.
I know. Even though I've seen much change since I first started following this whole "caustic critic" persona that's been popular for a while now; Boring Man remaining in this bizarre world of his is part of what draws me to this blog and other outlets that mock or criticize his work. It's that whole thing when Chris manages to find a new way to fail so spectacularly that has me follow this strange saga of his and this blog. Besides; I could easily go over why I'm not a fan of IG, but I get a lot more enjoyment out of seeing Chris get made fun of. At this point; he really has devolved into self-parody, at least in my case.
DeleteAttention fishing... Of course he would do something so slimy! This guy doesn't even have a single bone of dignity in his body, does he?
ReplyDelete>.<
Here's a suggestion. Maybe if he actually does retire sometime in the future, BatDan can start a Pewdiepie sucks blog or a Markiplier sucks blog.
ReplyDelete"Fishing for attention?" Has it ever occurred to you that maybe he was thinking about quitting but changed his mind?
ReplyDeleteAlso, at least Chris Bores is doing something he finds fun, all you do is make articles on his videos and looking for problems that aren't there. I will admit I do find your blog fun to read, but not for the reason you probably intended. I read your blogs so I can laugh at them.
I still stand by that you should have quit this blog a long time ago.
”at least Chris Bores is doing something he finds fun”
DeleteBatDan is doing something he finds fun as well.
“all you do is make articles on his videos and looking for problems that aren't there”
Replace "articles" with "videos" and "his videos" with "popular video games" and what do you get?
“you should have quit this blog a long time ago.”
You should have quite commenting before you started, because everything you said immediately backfires on your argument.
And before you make the obvious troll response that my comment regarding you is exactly like your comment regarding this blog, you're wrong.
The only arguments you made are based on double-standards. I’m not saying you shouldn’t criticize this blog because it’s above criticism for some arbitrary reason. I’m saying you shouldn’t criticize this blog for the same arbitrary reasons you say this blog shouldn’t criticize Bores.
Oh, and “problems that aren't there”? So, pulling a random “problem that wasn’t there” out of the barrel, it wasn’t a problem when he made insensitive public comments about Justin Carmical’s suicide? Or is that part of the double-standard, too? Bores can criticize Carmical’s suicide, but we can’t criticize his insensitivity?
"it wasn’t a problem when he made insensitive public comments about Justin Carmical’s suicide? Or is that part of the double-standard, too? Bores can criticize Carmical’s suicide, but we can’t criticize his insensitivity?"
DeleteYeah, I am willing to admit that was despicable of Chris to do, and I would never defend him on that.
"BatDan is doing something he finds fun as well."
Are you sure BatDan has fun making these articles? It doesn't seem that way to me, it feels like he's obligated to make these articles.
Obligated by whom, exactly?
DeleteI'm not 100% sure has fun with these articles. I'm not 100% sure that Bores has fun with his reviews either, it feels like me it was just an easy path to fame.
DeleteMaybe Bores enjoys the reviews and BatDan doesn't enjoy the blog. Maybe BatDan enjoys the blog but Bores doesn't enjoy the reviews. Maybe they both enjoy what then do, maybe neither one of them do.
Regardless, even if Bores enjoys making reviews more than anyone has ever enjoyed anything in the entire span of human history, everyone's still free to critique him on it. You're free to critique BatDan as well. But don't say that BatDan shouldn't be free to do what he wants, especially based on arbitrary reasons, opinions, and assumptions.
I think BatDan enjoys making these articles and in a way is trying to help Bores.
ReplyDeleteoff-topic: Sorry to bring this up again, but I'm just so stoked.
ReplyDeleteI looked at the moddb page for NH2 and saw we have 999 downloads of the new version. This happened in less than a week. The reviews are very good (9.5 out of 10).
OT: Am I the only one that doesn't like The Strongest Mega Evolution Act IV after watching it? I have been critical of parts of the prior Mega Evolution Specials, but this was the first one I outright disliked. Even if the battles and animation were great; I never really liked Alan all that much as a character and never thought the story took full potential of the setup it had. Even Malva, who I was looking forward to seeing; was wasted in the same manner that Siebold was. Even if Maren (no relation to the sailor from the second movie) still made Jar Jar Binks look like Chewbacca; she didn't deserve to get insulted by Alan, then abandoned when she needed emotional support.
ReplyDeleteThat said, XY and Z itself is off to a solid start; since the Zygarde Core opens up a lot of possibilities, and Team Flare has also overridden their campier game counterparts in favor of something more threatening (even if the garish red outfits remain). In particular, Xerosic has this very creepy; Josef Mengele-type voice that just gives me chills every time I hear it. It should be an overall satisfying anime in my book; especially if it's potentially setting up a new mainline Pokémon game for the 20th anniversary next year (news of which has been conspicuous by its absence, I might add).
Chris is like Family Guy; they get worse and worse. What separates him from Family Guy is that he didn't start off funny. (seriously, what was I thinking???)
ReplyDeleteI guess Amazon has bigger problems to worry about than dealing with Mr. Attention Whore.
ReplyDeleteIt's weird, I'm pretty sure the amazon reviews went down for a little while, but now they've somehow come back, do you think Chris could have reposted them?
DeleteIt's a possibility; but even so, this whole snafu Boring Man is involved with is my tentative worst moment for this year (and I am well aware we only have a little under 2 months to go). See you all tomorrow; I can only imagine what Chris has planned after this stunt. I still think I will be heartily enjoying the NX before he reaches the NES in the Artistic License History of Video Games.
DeleteFor me, the worst moment of 2015 is still him begging for subscribers after doing a tribute to Leonard Nimoy following his death... but, yeah, this is up there for sure.
DeleteWait, Retsupurae did a video on his Splatoon vid?
ReplyDeleteYes, during a live show no less. It's some of their best work in a long time; much as Boring Man's review was some of his worst (lousy photoshop, bad acting that could give Tommy Wiseau a run for his money; and claiming the basic gameplay mechanics were special moves. Also; the "squid fetish" line was particularly tasteless given how there was rule 34 of the Squid Kids before the game even officially launched.).
DeleteIt's a pretty long video but all you need to know is in it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lk0kIpWSw3E
DeleteI'm like a week late, but thanks.
DeleteFlawless: He blogged about the October Loot Crate on November 5th. The monthly theme? Time travel.
ReplyDeleteSales of Ghost Hunting 2.0 must be slipping as the book can now be purchased for $2.99. (Was $5.29 leading up to Halloween, dropped to $4.99 after the holiday and now dropped another $2.)
ReplyDeleteAlso, somebody is arguing in the comments section of Crystal's review. Apparently the negative reviewers are bashing poor Chris and not providing criticism of the book. Itself.
It's "The Irate Gamer Game" all over again. I'm wondering what his excuse will be?
DeleteMaybe the "Evil Haunted Investigator" hired us to give his books poor reviews so he could take over his book-writing career?
DeleteAt least we can make a peanut butter sandwich without ruining it.
DeleteIn any case, BookGate is still my prospective worst moment of the year; depending on what happens in the remaining days and weeks. Also, I agree, Dave, this is like another round of TIGG.
Deleteoff topic what deal with asalieri i get idea becuase his friends with bores. i get idea how he supprts him but he still admits as seen that doesmt make him changes his mind on bores vids. sorry its just i like aslalieri rar and kickstarter nightmares and contests vids and not sure what to think when i hear other stuff about him

DeleteNo new video.
ReplyDeleteCHRIS NEWS ALERT
ReplyDeletehttp://othersidepodcast.com/64-ghost-hunting-2-0-chris-bores-and-the-rules-of-the-dead/
I haven't listened yet but oh my lord, that photo of Chris and the caption XD
"Chris Bores is mostly known for his YouTube comedy videos as The Irate Gamer where he plays through vintage video games, reviews them, and gets angry every time he dies in the game."
DeleteWell, two of those things are true, and neither of them have anything to do with actually reviewing the game.
Anyone else see the Warcraft movie trailer? While I admit that video game movies have had a rough time; I think Duncan Jones might be able to to make it work; given he's managed to parlay being David Bowie's son into at least two other films that have successfully implemented video game-like elements and motifs into them (Moon and Source Code). Even the familiar fantasy elements can just be chalked up to being a man who probably grew up playing the games and most likely wants to make a worthwhile adaptation he'd enjoy seeing as much as the fans would.
ReplyDeleteI'm somewhat relieved. Because otherwise this blog would be completely useless now.
ReplyDeleteFor me, the blog is very useful for the off-topic stuff. I'm sure without Bores it'd just turn into a personal pop culture blog.
Delete
