Hmm, I wonder if Bores has posted anything new. *checks* Another tech review. All cheap shit that he was paid to look at. Oh, and it's a contest too.
Okay Chris, I want you to listen to me now. I know you hate me, I know you hate everything I stand for, I know that if I said "hot wings are awesome", you'd try to find a way to claim hot wings are the worst. But for once, I want you to listen to this bit of advice.
Open a Patreon page!
We're in an era where you no longer have to rely on YouTube revenue or Paypal donations or brand deals (though all these help too), Patreon can help people like you. Except for Andrew Dobson, but that's a whole different (inflated) can of worms.
I'm sure you have some fans out there willing to give you money once a month or once a video to put out more content. Real content, not these obvious showcases of selling out. It's clear you don't know anything about the tech you're shilling, so why keep doing this when there's an easier solution.
This advice does come with a caveat. If you do open a Patreon page, you have to have consistent content. You can't just sit on your ass collecting money from your fans. You can't be like certain *ahem* "activists" who collect thousands a month and provide nothing in return. You have to work for your patrons.
I know you won't listen, you never listen, better people than me have tried. But if this is the path you want to take your career, don't say I (or anyone else) didn't warn you.
it'd be interesting to see what he'd offer as the tiers and incentives...and if he'd actually follow through
ReplyDeleteI'd rather see him run a Twitch channel, but then I watch the Star Wars Holiday Special every year.
ReplyDeleteSeeing as how a lot of YouTubers I like to watch have a Patreon (and are benefiting quite nicely from it due to their fanbase), I think this is some solid advice, BatDan! Of course, we'll have to wait and see if Bores decides to take the bait and go along with it.
ReplyDeleteIn other news, E3 is only two weeks away. I think it will be an interesting show, despite how many third-party developers (e.g. EA, Activision, Disney) are not planning to have booth space this year.
What new information about the Playstation 4 Neo and Xbox One Scorpio will Sony and Microsoft reveal? Will Zelda Wii U / NX be enough for Nintendo to showcase as their only playable demo? Will Bores be able to go this year, if GotGame hasn't dropped him at this point in time?
If there's any idea he should steal, it's this one.
ReplyDeletePfft. Yeah because all those 12 year olds could get a hold of their parent's credit card
ReplyDeleteI know it's a bit optimistic to suggest this, especially since most of his fans are kids without money, but it's something worth suggesting.
DeleteI honestly think the best thing he could do above all else is to do videos on something he genuinely enjoys and then work from it.
ReplyDeleteEven if it's not a subject that's popular, I imagine some genuine enjoyment would help him to be more passionate about his work regardless of the budget.
I wonder what would have happened if he got involved in the pickup community.
DeleteI wonder what would have happened if he got involved in the pickup community.
Deletethat might result in Ghost hunting 3.76 or something.
DeleteWhat happened with Andrew Dobson?
ReplyDeleteI think he Dobbed his last Dobson
DeleteDoes that mean people have finally gotten tired of old Dobbo's bullshit?
DeleteI just got home from a two day vacation in the slammer, and after talking to the neighbors and settle down and trying to get caught up on my yt subs (not subbed to bores), i checked out this and was happy and surprised to see this. and he has a new video, ten minutes. so i hold off on reading it to watch the video. Funny and very nice to see such a fair post. I'm not sure if im too late for his contest, but i said pick me i will give you ten bucks for those headphones. I could get long winded here, but basically, I think every one of Bores fans, anti fans, and haters should send Bores at least five dollars. He has given us 9 (or ten i think if you want to count those murky pre IG days) years of some odd form of entertainment and food for thought (that tastes like long expired TMNT cereal vomited out of Grimace's purple puckered asshole). He has his faults but is far more amusing to me than most overpaid egomaniacal hollywood hogwash.
ReplyDeleteThis is true. Making fun of Bores over the years has been a breath of fresh air on my "not-so-good" days. He's really "so bad it's good", and he's tremendous fun to laugh (just not for the reasons he intended). To be honest, I stopped paying attention to AVGN years ago, but still come back to see IG. I'm actually beginning to feel sorry for the guy, if you wanna know the truth.
DeleteBut yeah. Thanks IG for years and years of entertainment. And, of course, thank you BatDan, and all the IGS community.
I highly doubt Bores will make a Patreon. He's not consistent and he can't stay active in making videos.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I read about this Andrew Dobson on ED. I don't know whether to feel sorry for him or feel disgusted at him.
Has anybody heard of the new info for Pokémon Sun and Moon today?
ReplyDeleteI did. Lunala looks incredible.
Deletesome observations about the video: is the first thing he reviews actually a lego product? i dont think so. The way he pronounces volume sounds like valium. What exactly was that 3d cellphone thing? and does anyone else wonder what Bores' vinyl collection looks like? (if he actually has any other than that one kids record or joke record (cant remember which) that he used in one of his other tech vids?
ReplyDeleteHe reviewed a Lego Minecraft set and it was half-assed.
DeleteYou know if you wanted a reason to post an entry to this blog. May I suggest another ex-fan testimony? Irate Dumbass only gave you one blog post in April so what are the odds of that happening again later this year?
ReplyDeleteoff-topic- found a kickstarter for this new game, Moonlighter, (already funded). Very Zelda-ish, worth following.
ReplyDeleteOff-topic: Sad news. Muhammad Ali, "The Greatest", has died at 74:

You guys really have nothing better to do then worry about a long since "popular" youtuber?

DeleteNew IRate The 80's episode coming soon...
ReplyDeleteI wonder what the topic is? MTV? ThunderCats? Fun House?
DeleteBreaking into homes to search for crack cocaine - that was big in the 80s.
DeleteMaybe Voltron since a new series is coming to Netflix and he can be current on rare occasion. Then again he probably wouldn't even bring up the edits or that it was part of a trilogy
DeleteIn Japan, anyways
Looks like Chris is resuming his ghost hunt tours at the Collingwood Arts Center. There is one scheduled for June 18th according to the CAC website.
ReplyDeleteLooks like his "job" his back.
DeleteIt would be cool if someone attended one of these and gave us a summary of what happened.
I live 1,960 miles away from there, but I don't think I'd even waste the time and money if I lived across the street.
Deletenew video up
ReplyDeletelooks like i rate the 80's is bazooka joe
food..typical
Do you think his target audience really gives two shits about this?
DeleteOk I watched.
DeleteChris, this could have actually been a decent video IF you didn't pad it with stupid jokes and random references. When will you learn that this does nothing to add to the videos and actually takes away from them?
You constantly talk about how awful Chris Bores is and are surprised he refuses to listen to you? I'm not surprised he doesn't listen to you.
ReplyDeleteOh and by the way your article on his latest irate the 80's episode is gonna suck. But I will read the article though to laugh at it since your pathetic attempts at making him look bad always make me laugh.
Chris makes himself look bad; none of us have to do that. Blogging about it is just part of the fun.
