Remember when Bores said IG will be coming back this summer? That might not happen.
He put out a Facebook post saying he's had no free time to work on it. But he also has other projects he's working that he can't discuss due to NDAs. ... I feel like I've heard this excuse before.
It's been 9 months since the last Chris Neo video. The time it takes a baby to be made.
Over on Puppet Steve though, he's been quite busy. Plenty of "free time" to do that huh?
Yesterday he posted *sighs* he posted another damn cereal video, for Garbage Pail Kids. And he clickbaits by saying he eats it from a toilet. It's not an actual toilet, it's a toy. But he is really getting desperate for clicks.
Today though, he posted a video about Avengers Happy Meal toys, with a title that says "Thanos steals them!" This is dumb.
And then my informant watched the video and took this screenshot.

We went from a rather well made Batman costume, to a cheap-ass Power Rangers costume, to another cheap-ass Spider-Man costume (it's so bad the eyes don't even stay on straight) and now... this Thanos trainwreck. He doesn't even have the Infinity Gauntlet!
If you're trying to be professional Chris, you're failing hard.
Lately it feels like Chris is back to throwing things at the wall. His previous cashcows (FNAF and Bendy) aren't milking the gold he needs. Now he's just pumping out shitty video after shitty video.
Think we'll get Irate Gamer at any point this year?
Well, by his own admission it may be late, but his desire to do it means he's got an idea. I say that and his unfailing hubris will get it online someday.
ReplyDeleteWhenever Chris gets a free time not doing Puppet Steve, he spend all of it to his Zombie Steve channel. His recent uploads to his Zombie Steve channel are 3 videos back in June, and 1 this July.

ReplyDeleteChris really should have waited to announce the return of Irate Gamer until he had produced a few episodes. Seems like he did not have a timeline prepared when he made the announcement. Puppet Steve is his bread & butter so it is understandable that should be his priority but why bother announcing new IG episodes if fans have to wait months for them to be available? If the new episodes are anything less than stellar then they will be disappointed for having to wait so long to see subpar videos.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of Puppet Steve, there is something really weird about those numbers. According to YouTube, Chris has 573,260 subscribers - as successful as Chris has ever been on YouTube. Congrats to Chris on that but it is still very small compared to say Cookie Swirl C (12 million subscribers) or Ryan ToysReview (20 million subscribers). The latter channel is only a few months older than Puppet Steve. In short, the toys community is extremely lucrative on YouTube and Chris really should be pulling in larger numbers.
Of the subscribers he does have, most of them are not engaged with the channel. His most successful video in the last 7 days only has 54k views. The most popular videos in the last 30 days are generally related to Minecraft, FNAF or Bendy. That racist Goo Jitsu video is the most views he has had in the last month.
A key problem with the Steve videos, one that I assume contributes to loss of views, is stretching out his damn one-note videos to over ten minutes, no matter what he has to focus on and draw out to squeak over that length. He should decide what he has to say, say it, and then say goodbye.

DeleteHow would Chris even approach a podcast? By his own admission he is not good at spontaneously talking which means we would be at the mercy of his script writing skills. What would he cover? Gaming? Ghosts? To say nothing of the fact that podcasts do not lend themselves well to visual effects or playing multiple characters with extremely limited vocal range.

ReplyDeleteNew AVGN with Gilbert Gottfried! The game itself is probably one of the worst games he's ever reviewed...but getting Gilbert Gottfried in the review is awesome! I've met him twice and even got him to sign my DVD copy of Problem Child.
ReplyDeleteNot gonna lie, this episode was pretty boring and not that funny at all. I did like the ending skit with the commercial, but that's it. Gilbert wasn't downright terrible, but he wasn't that funny, either. He did have a few funny lines, but most of them were hit and miss, unfortunately. It's real shame, because the AVGN is starting to become like the Irate Gamer and that's not a good thing at all. Even the jungle greenscreen looks like the same one Boring Man used in his Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom NES review.

DeleteI did not care for this episode. A couple of days have passed and the main thing I remember from it are animal feces jokes. I have no objection to Gottfried appearing but I do not feel it was necessary to give him the role of Fred Fuchs. I think if you removed all of the Fred Fuch references the episode would have been at exactly the same quality it would be if Gottfried simply played a generic game designer.
DeleteI think the main problem with the newer AVGN videos is that James is just overplaying the character of the Nerd. What made the AVGN videos of last decade genuinely funny was that they felt real, the nerd character seemed more genuine and subtle in a way, was much more dry and cynical which made the absurd comments funny and the rage feel real; when the Nerd got fucking pissed, you got fucking pissed!
DeleteNow he's just exagerrating and overacting the anger element and it's just not funny. It seems that James lost the enthusiasm he once had for AVGN, I mean his main focus was originally horror films and AVGN just started off as a side project for James, and it happened to catch on with people and it went from there.
I loved AVGN when I first started watching it back in 2006 and I still watch those old videos sometimes, but now the AVGN videos are just boring, overproduced, and contrived. James' focus seems to be elsewhere but he keeps going through the motions making these AVGN videos just because the fans want to see it, but he doesn't have the honest passion for them at this point it seems.
I would love to see something really genuinely good from Cinemassacre but it'd have to be created with honest intentions.
It seems like Cinemassacre's main focus now is the rental reviews, which feature just a bunch of nerds hanging around James's basement telling stupid jokes about the movie in particular and not actually showing footage.
DeleteThe latest AVGN video is terrible. I couldn't even finish it. I really think Rolfe should retire the character because he hasn't had a really good episode in a very long time now. At this point he's just getting mad and throwing out profanity and shit jokes and it seems so forced and going through the motions. I hate to say it but AVGN's current product reminds me more of "classic" Irate Gamer than classic AVGN. He's become a parody of himself.
DeletePart of it I'll concede is I'm older and honestly the appeal of many of the things I used to like 10 years ago is gone. AVGN I watch out of habit and a sense of obligation (probably not anymore). Other shows like the Nostalgia Critic I haven't watched in years. So yeah it could be me, but I'm seeing more people start to agree.

It's no surprise that he's going to put all his focus on Puppet Steve.
On top of that, it seems way easier to make Puppet Steve videos than Irate Gamer. All he does in Puppet Steve is use puppets and say random toys and the box and UPC code is "super cool" whereas with IG he has to record and edit a bunch of footage. Doing far less and receiving higher yields just makes more logical sense, and that's what Chris is doing.
