Spoiler Images from Irate Gamer Game

As I and many of my readers have established, the Irate Gamer Game on iOS is complete garbage. Beyond broken controls, minimal variety, unexplained mechanics that backfire, failures in basic game design, pointless ladders, the list goes on.
Of course, none of us would actually pay for it, and why would we? We know from the Lite version that it's crap, and only someone truly brave would pay for it to review the whole thing.

Thankfully, someone was brave. Thanks to a fan that wishes to be called Uatu, we now have images of all the enemies and comic book cutscenes. Uatu, you are awesome, and have the patience of a saint (or should I say Watcher?)

First, here are the enemies and bosses besides the standard HAL Bot.

Here we have a giant HAL Bot. It may or may not be the same giant HAL Bot from the Power Rangers review. It probably isn't.

Here's a stronger HAL Bot, because it's purple. The creativity just oozes off the screen.

Here's the Evil Gamer, looking just as crappy as his "good" counterpart.

Here's R.O.B, even though I thought he was supposed to be a good guy now. Though this is likely a different R.O.B. (see cutscenes below).

Hard to tell, but this is the Shadow Overlord. That's a great design, a completely black picture.

Now, here are all the game's comic book cutscenes.

Here's the opening and the game's story. For someone that complains about flimsy stories all the time, this is pretty bad.

The intro to Level 11 with Evil Gamer and Shadow Overlord. We see EG is a coward, and Shadow Bores laughs at his own jokes (just like real Bores). "Snow him down" isn't even a good pun.

The intro to Level 21. I'm guessing this relates to a new power-up you get here. Also, a pointless Final Fight reference.

The intro to Level 31, where Chris tries stealth but then forgets about it. We also see a new R.O.B (see enemy screen above) and this one can talk. Apparently, he speaks in Portal quotes. I'm guessing Mad Media Labs added this because I doubt Bores has ever played Portal or Portal 2. If he did, it would look a lot like iJustine's LP.

The intro to Level 41. Oh, there's Ronnie. Urgh. We also have a pointless Sixth Sense reference, a pointless Super Mario Bros. reference and a pointless Mortal Kombat reference. Oh, you think this is bad? Hahahahaha.

The intro to Level 51, and we've reached critical mass on references, Duke Nukem levels even. Hell, one of them is the Duke Nukem line that 3D Realms took from They Live. Along with pointless references to The Shining and Dirty Harry (not even Clint Eastwood could make a Zapper sound threatening, unless he plans to beat someone's brains in with it).
Also, Shadow Bores only has his NES. Bores could easily do reviews of other consoles. Oh wait, that would make too much sense.

EDIT: I also wanted to add that this picture seems to confirm that Shadow Overlord doesn't have a true form. He's literally just a shadow. So lame... and unoriginal. There's so many villains out there that are just shadows. Like DC's Shadow Thief, or SCP-280.

The intro to Level 52. Is that a Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time reference? For those that haven't played the game (and if you haven't, go out and play it, it's awesome!), the story is told through the Prince regaling it to female lead Farah. All your actions are being described by him to the princess (you don't hear it, but it's implied that every wall jump and sword slash is part of the story). If you died, he would say "Wait no, that's not how it happened" or something along those lines. I'm guessing that this is another Mad Media Labs addition since he made it clear he never played The Sands of Time.
EDIT: Fixed the Sands of Time story bits. Thank you to Agarack for correcting me.

The ending. Only things go differently (including a different lame one-liner). Evil Gamer escapes and IG remarks that he did all of this... for his fans. PFFFFT HAHAHAHAHA. When do you ever do anything for your fans? You've always been about money, and this shitty game is no exception. Oh man.

So yeah, game still looks terrible. Only now we can confirm there's barely any enemies and the entire story is lame.

Once again, I would like to thank Uatu for willing to part with his money and managing to play through so he can inform us all of what it's in store for people that want to pay for the full version.
By the way, I don't think Bores is going to see much revenue from this. Apple takes 30% of the cut on every iOS games, and Mad Media Labs probably takes a big cut. Considering how few people are actually going to pay for this, Bores is probably going to see pennies.

3 years of development. Hahahaha.

That's not correct punctuation, is it? Bahaha.

  2. Actually, the whole "wait, that's not what happened" in Sands of Time is revealed at the end. (SPOILER ALERT FOR THIS AWESOME GAME, GO PLAY IT NOW!). He is not telling it to the player, he is telling it to Farah, the princess who accompanied him on his adventure. She dies before he is able to get the sands of time, but he changes the timeline so the evil Vezir (don't know if that is the correct word)would not unlock the sands of time and Farah survives. The game ends with Farah listening to the story, not believing it, so he... well, play it yourself :) Point is, he tells it to Farah, not the viewer.

    1. Ah thank you, it's been a while since I've played it. I'll fix it.

    2. Its a shame the exact line was "wait wait wait, that's not how it happened. Now where was I?" according to the let's play I'm watching here http://youtu.be/2AjGsx4R6DE?t=5m51s

Another game that had this mechanic was Sacrifice where upon selecting to restart a level would prompt a similar response. I doubt mad media labs have played such obscure games however.

    3. I actually played the game in German (my first language), so I didn't know the exact English line. I didn't mean to be a douche, I just have very fond memories of the game, so I wanted to add that little detail :)

    4. No problem. I just wanted to point out that Irate Gamer's game has parody failure in it. Which is unsurprising considering the genre of what we're dealing with here.

      Delete
    5. Well, the ease of parody fail isn't entirely Bores's fault. A lot of people who think they're funny think putting a recognizable pop culture reference into their work is inherently funny. Whether we'll admit it or not, I'm sure there a few people here who've seen Epic Movie and know how "I'm Iron Man!" or "It's Kung Fu Panda!" is the extent of the joke.

Surely we can all agree IG's grasp of humor, and those of anyone willing to associate with him, is marginal at best...

  3. That's hilarious how the people who made this think Chris's fans will actually get retro game references...

  4. That ending image with the Evil Gamer gunning down Bores just makes so much sense with DLA's prediction that Evil Gamer is a hero.

Still, I want this artist to work on a game with me when I master game programing.

  5. Still can't believe snow him down was the best pun they could come up with they could have tried 'This snowstorm should spice things up' or something like that I can't really think up any other puns.

Please, somebody stop me, I have a million of these ice puns.

    4. Why should we? Someone would have to be freezing crazy to stop the puns. It's just the icing on the ice!

  8. Wow. Maybe Keiji Inafune will see this and start a kickstarter to make a better game based on internet reviewer after this pain. And Capcom would be ripping their hair out after that one too. Seriously, Capcom sucks now. Sorry, went off on a tangent on this joke...

  9. Good lord, the game's story makes the storyline of Guilty Crown look like Gurren Lagann. The dialogue is SOOOO lame and cheesy that it makes me groan and shake my head.

  10. Hey anyone remember buggin saying this particular bit?
    LadyBuggin777 3 months ago

Christopher is the IrateGamer ..... Ladybuggin is Christophers mom and Ladybuggin's real name is NOT Linda .... fu***** trolls need me to spell it out for them ~
She also seems to have forgotten it considering this.
    LadyBuggin777 38 minutes ago

I'm not pretending anything. I have always claimed to be Ladybuggin, Christopehr's mom, and just because you say I'm not, doesn't mean that I'm not. My birth name is Linda and as you've proved genetically Linda is Christopher's mom. Just because I don't go by the birth name, and go by my family given nick name, is of no consequence of my true idenity. You on the other hand are so immature you call me by my son's name, claim I am gay, and repeatedly claim I make video's. There are like 7 people on this channel that have repeatedly tried to educate you on the facts of your mislead opinions and feelings, and still you don't listen to a word they type. I'm beginning to think you are jsut plain stupid with an IQ of plum ~

  11. You know now that I think about it Bores is eerily similar to Mitsuo Kubo from Persona 4.

  12. The only good thing about the game is the art style for the cutscenes. Even with that, this game is still a piece of crap.

  13. What about the Shantae HD prequel Kickstarter.

I Like it and it was a surprise, but people are complaining about how Shantae is white in the early promos.

  14. So the trailers for the To RoboCop reboot is out. Wonder if Bores will say anything...what do you guys think about it?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It looks like the director didn't watch Robocop, rather a parody of Robocop. I say that because from what little I've seen from the trailers, they seemed to completely miss what made the original Robocop a good movie. I also don't like the decision to make technology look exaggeratively slick. It lacks style in my opinion. You could argue that changes like that are to make the movie more timeless... but I argue, sense when does it matter whether an action movie is MADE to be timeless?

      Delete
    2. I'm sad that they changed his design since it was based off of space sheriff gavin. Also, was Michael Keaton in this? That makes me sad. Aslo, why does Robocop have one of his hands sticking out?And Detroit looks way, way better than present day detroit...

    1. Yeah, one of his best (if not the best) newer episodes. I still haven't recovered from Toxic Crusaders *cringes*. Focusing a lot on the games and a good portion of the history of them, as well as not trying too hard to be funny. I hope later episodes are as good as that.

    2. This is an exceptionally interesting case too. No one, NO ONE can disagree that the Tiger games were terrible. I remember having a few as a kid and I can't look back on them with the same rose colored glasses as other shit games from my childhood. Bare in mind, one of the games I had as a kid was Bubsy. Even with a more critical perspective and years of gaming experience, I can still recall pleasant memories of playing BUBSY.

      Delete
    3. That's because Bubsy I is not a bad game. It just gets a lot of flak for some reason.

  16. I think the Bores sprite and character from the cutscenes is way too skinny. Why doesn't it look anything like him?

  20. Irate Gamer's face derped in the Level 41 Prologue - Rescuing Ronnie.

The comic artstyle reminds me of Family Guy for some reason. It certainly doesn't help that it's littered with many references (especially ones that don't make this funny).

  21. New IG Neo on GotGame.com. This time, it's on the console release of Diablo 3.

  22. I love how the only positive thing about this game it the cutscene artwork. Too bad it bloched out by horribly bad writing. It reminds me of Frank Miller's All-Star Batman and Robin the Boy Wonder where the Jim Lee's artwork is ruined by Miller's piss-poor writing. Who ever drew this for Bores' game just wasted their talent.

    ReplyDelete
  23. While the comics artwork is pretty good, the writing is horrid and the references would've been better in the game itself. Why take a break from a game to read a comic referencing a bonus level instead of just including the bonus level?

    ReplyDelete
  24. One thing that bothered me about this artwork is that it's eerily reminiscent of European comics, particularilly French and Italian ones - the rounded faces, how movement is portrayed, even the panel layout. It looks an awful lot like Asterix and Obelix or those Italian Disney comics.
As far as I can tell from doing minimal research, Mad Media Labs is actually a UK studio and I don't recall brits ever drawing that way. Maybe the comics were outsorced? That would explain the art style and the weird wording and technically correct, but somewhat flawed English.

    ReplyDelete
  25. If anyone is interested, I can PM you a recorded video of the first two levels of the IG game. The video is kind of weird since I was using a screen recording app on my iPhone, and I was tinkering around with the volume, but it gets the job done.

Does anyone think I should also upload it to YouTube? I was considering it, but I have a feeling Bores (or LadyBuggin) would take it down. Any thoughts?
