Fan Testimonial from Prince Mario

Hi.
While I'm still retired from covering Bores, I will still post former fan testimonials. Here's one from Prince Mario.
If you have a testimonial you wish to submit, please let me know.

Hello to all of BatDan's readers I'm a somewhat popular youtuber by the name of PrinceMario (You can view my channel right here https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCz2fQphFH9QoFaYyvpO8fbw) In this post I'm going to tell my story on how I used to love Chris Bores when I was 10-12 and how I grew to hate the guy.

It all started back in 2009. I was just 10 years old at the time and we still had dial up because we couldn't afford wifi. Back then there were certain sites like YouTube that I had just discovered and found it to be the most amazing thing ever. I started looking up videos on Super Mario Bros 2 because I always wanted to know how the NES Mario games were (keep in mind that Mario 64 was the first Mario game I played so I didn't know a whole lot about NES) and the first result was Irate Gamer's Super Mario Bros 2 video. At the time I loved it because I was a huge Mario fan and I loved random humor. I also found his jaws and back to the future reviews and found them funny,

At that point I was an Irate Gamer fan. I wasn't the kind of IG fan who would go and attack AVGN fans (I didn't know who AVGN was at the time) but I was just a casual fan who enjoyed his work. I would show my cousins at family gatherings Bores' reviews and they would find them funny. Just keep in mind I didn't know as much about retro gaming as I do now so at the time I thought Mario 2, Ghost and Goblins, and Contra were bad games because Bores said it.

This all changed about a year later when I discovered the AVGN. I discovered his Ninja Turtles review and saw the date it was posted and thought that Bores directly stole from that video. Then I went and watched more videos by James Rolfe (Back To The Future, Mario is Missing, etc). However at the time I still enjoyed both Bores' and Rolfe's works and just thought they were similar.

Then in 2011 Bores posted an E3 video on him blowing up Ubisoft because he wasn't allowed to attend the conference and that was the first video by him that I hated. Then it got even worse. In 2012 James Rolfe posted a video promoting a Cheetahmen II kickstarted that got a lot of hate. At the time I didn't care too much about the video because I try not to get involved in internet wars (I didn't with the war between IG fans and AVGN fans).

However right when the whole flame war was going on Bores posted a video titled Ebegging The Spoof and I hated that video so much I unsubscribed from IG and totally lost all respect for him. After that I completely forgot about him.

That is until 2014 when he posted a 40 minute video attacking James Rolfe and this point is where I found the IG sucks blog. I started reading every post on the blog and going back to Bores's videos and thinking 'how did I find this funny." I then found I can't believe it's not AVGN and DoubleEdgedSowrd's take on the videos and that was where I found Bores entertaining to watch again. The guy's text commentaries were s o enjoyable. I also found the Third Rate Gamer and loved him and I wish he could make more stuff.

Then afterward I started reading the blog until Bores called it quits. Now will Bores come out of retirement or put something that's worth ripping on. We don't know. That is my full story thanks to Batdan for letting me share this.

    1. Does your princess get kidnapped often and you have to rescue her? Ha.

Jokes aside, hmm, seems like most of the people found Irate Gamer by his SMB 2 video. Most likely because at that time, YouTube has been featuring him heavily (like how some videos persistently appears on your recommended list).

And yep, I also hated that Ubisoft video. If it is done today, it's going to be much more damaging to his rep.

Just one question though: When you used to be his fan, did you comment on his videos? What kind of responses will he give, like is it "Cool, thanks for the comment!" or something else? I'm just curious.

    2. I never commented on his videos at the time because I wasn't allowed to have a YouTube account back in 2009 so I had to use my older brother's account.

  3. Very interesting testimony, Prince Mario. Regrettably, there hasn't been a whole lot from Boring Man besides all this puppet nonsense and masturbatory FNAF videos, and the CB Network has been dormant for some time. I will have to check out your channel sometime, but for now; I'm watching some E3 coverage. Nintendo has not only given some great new looks at Super Mario Odyssey, but more on the new Kirby as well as some real new Metroid games. Metroid Prime 4 and Metroid Samus Returns, to be precise. Been a while, but I've been busy with school and Breath of the Wild, among other things. Also, with Splatoon and Pokkén getting new games on the Switch, I'm practicing for the new ones on the originals. Sony and Microsoft also had good shows, and I am very excited for what lies ahead.

    2. Steven, I'd say Nintendo won E3 this year, but the lack of third party support is definitely something to be concerned about. If the Switch doesn't get good third party support, the console is dead and Nintendo is finished as a hardware company. I don't care how much money they have in the bank. No one will ever trust them again, just like when people lost all faith in Sega. The asinine attempts to keep the Genesis alive and Bernie Stolar's "brilliant" idea on killing the Saturn made consumers and developers lose all faith in Sega and the same thing will happen with Nintendo if the Switch fails. The Dreamcast was a great system, but sadly it was too late for Sega at that point. And hopefully the games aren't gimped. Because nobody will buy the shit version of the games, like what happened with the Wii U.

      Delete
    3. I know. Stolar had multiple foul-ups that make me glad he's no longer working for Sega (he has done somewhat better at Mattel); and though I agree that the long-term is something I am keeping in mind, the short-term seems to be all right. Most likely, provided I have the money and I'm actually able to find one; I still intend to see if I can get a Switch for Christmas or my 26th birthday. I don't know how Skyrim or FIFA will fare compared to their counterparts; but I am interested to see how developers make use of the console as well. I don't plan on playing those versions with the same expectations I would have on their competitors. Even though Sony didn't have any big hardware reveals, I am glad to see the Insomniac Spider-Man game moving forward; as well as a remake of Shadow of the Colossus, one of my all-time favorite PS2 games. Most likely, I will probably get Horizon Zero Dawn once the new expansion goes live. As for Microsoft: the Xbox One X (formerly Project Scorpio) does look impressive, but the price tag of $500 is a bit of a deterrent for me right now. Still, the concept of being the most powerful console ever does intrigue me for what can be done with it. That, and there is something that amuses me about the Crackdown 3 spot with Terry Crews and bringing back the original Xbox controller (the "Duke") that was as big as my head. I am also glad that the 3DS will be supported past 2018, since there have been games I've been wanting to play on it for ages and many others. Even though I still miss Iwata, I submit Kimishima has risen admirably to the occasion and in filling his senior's shoes.

      Delete
    4. Hopefully, any third party games you play won't be horribly gimped like Watch Dogs, Sniper Elite V2, Batman: Arkham Origins on the Wii U. Also, I really wouldn't bother with the Xbox One X, Microsoft basically lied to their consumers and it doesn't seem as capable as they made it out to be, the console is also very expensive, and you get NO exclusives on it. You can basically just get every Xbox One game on the PC. If you have a good PC, there's really no point in investing in an overpriced and over hyped console. Also, I was going to be getting the PS4 Pro, but there are rumors Sony might release the PS5 next year, so I'll probably be passing on the Pro and getting the PS5 more than likely. There's really no point in getting a next gen refresh if the true next gen is coming out and I think Microsoft will slowly leave the console race and move fully into PC. I just hope Nintendo doesn't port every single one of their first party games over from the Wii U. The Switch already has that stigma of being called "The Wii U 2.0.".

  4. It seems a fair number of IG fans found him through their curiosity of retro video games and without context they were unable to separate the BS from the "review". Out of curiosity, Prince Mario, did you believe the slowed down star in the SMB2 video really was that slow? Did the History of Video games series leave an impression on you?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I did at first but then I played the game for the first time and that's when I stopped trusting Chris Bores. I was never a huge fan of the History of Video Games series and I never liked how there was only one episode a year. I could probably get to the Wii in the same time it took him to get to the Oddesey.

      Delete
    2. Seven years and Boring Man only managed to get up to the Intellivision.

      Delete
    3. What was even the point of History of Video Games. We all know he's not a gamer and he got so many things wrong in those videos (Al Acorn, saying Nolan Bushnell wasn't in the odyssey confrence, getting the release date of the Atari 2600 wrong etc).

      Delete
    4. I kinda hoped it would continue, to see if he'd try to keep up his "Genesis was released to compete with SNES" story.

      Delete
    5. Hell, as I expected; the Switch launch came and went and he never got to the NES. The pacing was definitely one of the many problems with the series; along with the inane sketches and bad jokes (if he thought Atari Hangman was filthy, Custer's Revenge would have blown his mind). That, and judging consoles that were made in the 1970s by modern standards was tremendously dumb (Odyssey and Channel F being notable offenders). He even teased getting to Pac-Man before all this puppet fuckery began and became his main focus.

      Delete
    6. Heck, it was pretty much proved that he's NEVER finish the series to begin with. HOVG was dead in the water from it's very inception. He should've killed if off years ago.

    1. I don't blame you, those things are obnoxious to me; and even with more of this stuff coming, every time I just check his channel; the content seems indistinguishable from one video to another. Shame, because I actually find puppetry a rather interesting medium. Jim Henson, he is not.

    2. We should get the Puppet Steve fans to know about Bores's past on YouTube and we'll expose him so badly that puppet steve will go downhill.

      Delete
    3. These are five year olds you're talking about. They're get older and forget about him. Besides, you can't keep shitting out the same content all the time. It's all the same with Puppet Steve.

      Delete
    4. Bores has already been exposed as Puppet Steve. Most people who might have cared had already moved on.

Don't worry, Puppet Steve will die faster than Irate Gamer. The show has no real vision and the production values are extremely lazy. And this time Bores won't have the infamy and mass exposure from YouTube to boost him

      Delete
    5. Yeah, I can see Puppet Steve going the same way IG did; albeit at a much faster rate. The kids that watch his mugging will move onto other content creators and not look back on this fondly at all. It is entirely possible to make toy reviews interesting as a subject matter (I really enjoyed Ashens' lambasting of his least favorite Pop figurines, a line he's made no secret of his dislike for); but I can telegraph every new video Boring Man makes with these puppets: toy gets unveiled, toy gets vaguely described ("reviewed" is generous at best), Puppet Steve and sometimes Alex or Zombie Steve try and fail at hijinks; lather, rinse and repeat. While Chris' other content was pretty bad too; at least the other stuff on "CB Network" was all uniquely bad (Irate the '80s, Pursuit of the Paranormal and the Artistic License History of Video Games, among others). There's only so many times that I can deal with all this puppet nonsense before they all blur together.

      Delete
    6. And once Puppet Steve dies, Bores is finished on YouTube and I guess it's going to back to ghosts and worshiping Alex Jones. Bores only got lucky with IG, thanks to AVGN on YouTube and many people jumping on the bandwagon. Now with angry reviewing almost a dead fad, Bores has nothing to fall back on once Puppet Steve fails. At least with IG, the content was different. But with Puppet Steve, just watch one video and you've seen them all. It's all the same thing over and over again. Also, Steven, it's for the best to ignore Puppet Steve. I wouldn't even bother watching anymore of his videos. They're all the same and there's only so much cancer a person can take. Also, while I never really cared for the whole "angry reviewing" fad, I will say this and you might agree with me.

      IG: Irrelevant.
      Puppet Steve: Irrelevant.
      Ghosts: Irrelevant.
      Alex Jones: Irrelevant.

Bores is one hundred percent irrelevant and beyond the point of not caring at all. And hey, IG's no longer bashing good games anymore and doing scumbag shit (JewWario's disrespect and "Opening Up video shit). It's pretty much time to let it go now. Bores is worth caring about and to me, he's just a smile little flea on the dog that is YouTube. Completely irrelevant and not worth caring about.

  22. The Collingwood Arts Center has removed the ghost hunting section from its website. While Chris did do a charity ghost event there last year it seems that his ghost hunts at that location are severely diminished. In fact, the CAC website seems to be debunking Chris on the About page:

"Contrary to the opinions of various paranormal enthusiasts, very few incidents of paranormal activity have been witnessed by the residents. Although "orbs" (said to be a deceased person's energy or life force) can be captured in photographs quite routinely, the mysterious sounds and visions of ghosts reported on various websites are rarely, if ever, credibly documented. If such paranormal activity exists, it merely adds to the unique flavor and ambience of one of the largest and oldest structures in Toledo's historic Old West End."

    1. That's just plain mean. Whatever horrible things Bores may have done, let him share the news about the birth of his child without having to deal with drama

    2. I agree. It's one thing to make fun of Bores' videos, but his personal life should be left alone.

    3. Thank you guys cause I can tell you Christopher is so proud of his new daughter and we are all so happy with her birth. My new granddaughter is beautiful and a true blessing to our family. Thank you both for the nice comments so very much appreciated. Take care, God Bless :D

    4. No one here ever wished ill on Chris. I hope you remember that, 'Ladybuggin'. The criticism was of the content - it was not personal attacks. I'm sure most if not all commenters here would no more criticise Chris the human being than they would pretend to blow up a software developer or make repulsive comments about a victim of suicide and mental illness.

    5. And a P.S.- congrats to Chris and his family. Despite his transgressions I think the fella has a good heart and with his childlike sense of fun is probably a fantastic dad. Certainly better than I had - of course, having taken the piss out of me having abusive parents, you'd see why I'd value that Ms.Buggin.

Nah, fuck it. I'm not sour enough to end this comment on that. Congratulations, Chris and I hope you and your family are very happy together. One thing I'll say for you, you were born to be a 'fun dad'. A big, embarrassing goofball of a dad. I'd bet that's probably the best kind of dad to be. All the best.

    1. That is really shocking. I mean it comes to no surprise that he had health issues, but he just released a video only a week ago. I used to follow his videos up until he was initially kicked off of YouTube for Copyright claims. He will be missed.

It's a reminder to enjoy your life while you can because you don't know how much longer you'll live.

    2. Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't he used to post here at least a couple of times?

    3. Would have watched, but the Blob is involved.

      Still, I'm sorry to hear.

    4. He used to do a lot of game reviews initially back when angry reviewing was a fad until he was initially kicked off of YouTube. I started watching him back when he did his Epic Rants and Fanboy Chronicles, but a lot of haters tried to get him kicked off of YouTube by filing false copyright claims against him and they even hacked and fucked up his website. When he came back, he started doing primarily reaction and review videos of random B horror and Sci-fi flicks and just bad movies in general. If you watched some of his videos though, you could tell he was no fan of Doug Walker and the cast at Channel Awesome.

  40. So there's actually a far FAR worse YouTube celebrity now:

    Riley J Dennis

  41. Joseph Bologna, an actor, writer, and director known for his role in 1982’s “My Favorite Year” and for his long collaboration on stage and screen with wife Renée Taylor, has died after a three-year battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 82.

I only mention this as I'm in the middle of watching Rags To Riches on DVD. I also liked his guest spots on Married With Children.

  42. Chris has opened an Etsy shop for Puppet Steve merchandise. As of now you can buy a fidget spinner with either Puppet Steve or Zombie Steve's face on it or preorder a Puppet Steve Lego mini-figure. https://www.etsy.com/shop/PuppetSteve

    1. These things look like absolute garbage! The face and hands have different colors, and appear to be made of different materials.

"(These will be shipped in 1-2 weeks as they are currently on back order!)"... yeah, "on backorder", as usual you're not fooling anyone but yourself.

I'm not surprised at all that he's selling fidget spinners. If there's a fad that requires no creativity on his part, you can bet he'll try to profit from it. From the looks of it, he just printed up some pictures and glued them on.

    2. And that is leaving out the fact that Chris does not have the rights to either Steve or the Minecraft zombie. Microsoft might have something to say about that but with only 32 sales so far, they might not think it's worth the effort, There was a video on the Puppet Steve channel marketing the fidget spinners and he called them "rare". I suppose he is correct on that one...

  43. New AVGN episode on Game Boy accessories.

    1. That episode really brought back the spirit of classic AVGN. If only Boring Man can make a video as good as that.

    2. One of the best Nerd episodes (so far) of 2017!

I didn't realize just how many accessories the Game Boy had... though I did know of the camera and printer. And of course, the Super Game Boy, even though it's really an SNES accessory.

    3. I actually had the first light he showed, it actually didn't work very well, it unevenly lit and left a huge glare.
I think I knew someone who had that stupidly large back. it was horrible.
I also used to have an unofficial camera for the GBA, it allowed you to save photos to a computer.
There's also and unofficial Game Boy to NES adapter.
