It has been quiet.

What do you mean it's August? Man, this year is going by rather quick.

I imagine you've all noticed that there hasn't been any updates. Simply put, there is nothing to talk about.
He has not released anything to the Irate Gamer channel since the Gremlins video.
The only thing over on the Ghost Doctor has been a video about "Demon Classification". Sorry, I already play Shin Megami Tensei, I have all the demon classification I need there.

But as you can see, nothing has come out of IG. Why the silence?
He's been dead quiet on Facebook. Weirdly enough, earlier in the Summer he said that he had tons of projects lined up and that "this will be a big year for Irate Gamer". And yet... nothing.
He also mentioned wanting someone to help him create an Arcade Cabinet. Nothing seems to have come from that.

My theory? He's discouraged. Back when he was working on the Gremlins video, he was boasting on Facebook about how hard he was working, and how proud he was of it. However, most of the comments were praising Zach Galligan's testimony about the game rather than Chris' "reviews". On top of that, the views for it were abysmal. Over two months later, and it has only achieved 26k views. In fact, his views in general have been terrible.

The only video that came out in 2021 that did decently was Godzilla vs Kong, and that's thanks to the algorithm and Search Engine Optimization. Basically, the right video at the right time. He did the same over on Puppet Steve, releasing a Godzilla vs Kong video the day the movie came out. It got him a lot of views. So he foolishly keeps doing Godzilla videos on that channel despite getting less and less views. He even posted one today where he gets things wrong (like claiming Space Godzilla is new).

So really, it kind of feels like Chris is giving up... again. The views aren't coming in, nobody cares about what he thinks, he's probably beyond discouraged. But who knows, he may surprise me by posting something the next day. I know he reads this.

UPDATE: As I was working on this, my informant sat through Chris' "demon classification" video. And hoo boy...
It is pretty nuts, but a lot of it feels like Chris' failed Dungeons & Dragons campaign. He lists a type of "demon" and then tries to use movies and shows made in the last decade to "prove his point". When all he does is sound like an ill-informed shallow idiot. He doesn't go into various mythologies or religious ideals, and tries to act like what happens in the movies happens in real life. He sounds like someone that can't distinguish between fiction and reality. At no point does he showcase his process in finding all this out. It sounds like he's just making it up.
I may actually have to do a deeper dive into it... Because it sounds beyond batshit. Sometime down the line.

Keep doing what ya doing, BatDan. Hope all is going aight.

  3. Funny thing, he started the New season (8) with the gremlins review, but i think if Nothing changes in the next month it will be suddenly the Finale of the season just like duck hunt which also should start a New season but later served as a season Finale after he changed the description etc.

  4. IG's peak in viewership was from 2007-2012. After the spamming Skylanders videos, his viewership started dipping. Puppet Steve has been active since 2016 and is suffering the same fate. Spamming video ideas that get him views, his fan base grows older, and he never goes out of his way to find new ones. Sound familiar?

    ReplyDelete
  5. FYI: I think in retrospect, spamming Skylanders videos for two years straight did a lot of damage to the Irate Gamer channel that Chris never recovered from even with the Opening Up video and the Crossover.

  6. With all that in mind, I still don’t get why you’re obsessively covering Bores. Like yes, his videos are bad, and I certainly don’t agree with his weird demon theories. But given that you yourself know that only a small amount of people even watch his videos anymore, let alone care about them, why try to “keep this going”? Bores barely has any influence over anyone beyond his niche audience, so is it really worth it to “prove” that he makes bad and incorrect videos? The totally of garbage “RAH SJW WOKENESS” clickbait on YT has far more influence daily than Bores currently has.

"Before I go, I want to address something. To my critics, the ones regurgitating the same talking points over and over. You say I have “no life” for doing this. How much time do you think I spend on this? Because truthfully, I don’t spend a lot. This is just something I can do to kill an hour (maybe more if it’s a longer video). This really isn’t the time sink you think it is.
And everyone going “You’ve been doing this for X years” … what’s your point? People like what I write, so I’m going to keep doing it."

    3. That is true but there were still videos being published consistently. Mike was producing content and they were doing James and Mike Mondays.

Don't get me wrong, I don't care for the current era of AVGN but I understand why they need to keep producing content on a regular basis. And James was right about one thing; he absolutely has the right to choose to focus on his family.

    3. Speaking of which, for those that haven't caught up with Todd, he has a series called Trainwreckords where he looks at albums that ended careers. I've seen people in Todd's comment section request Nostalgia Critic's The Wall for Trainwreckords and it will definitely NEVER happen. Not just the Channel awesome drama but Doug didn't have a notable music career prior to that which is what Trainwreckords is about.

    1. I wish people would stop calling them "slobs", if you don't like their contribution to cinemassacre that's fine - but "slobs" is so mean-spirited. I'm sure they are trying their best to keep cinemassacre afloat, it's very clear that James isn't inspired anymore and I'm sure the podcast wasn't his idea. I'm glad they are trying new things... hopefully they find something that attracts views and that James is passionate about.

I don't think the podcast was the best idea however seeing as James is very introverted and isn't the best at talking off the cuff.

Oh well, maybe the next show will be a winner.

    2. I listened to it last night. I thought it was a reasonably good effort given that it was the first episode. At least they knew what they were talking about and nobody tried to go into forced ranting mode.

    3. Agreed, I think they did a decent job too. It was better than I expected.

The only thing that slightly annoyed me was how James handled the Bootsy question. Both Mike and Bootsy have commented that there was indeed a conflict that lead to his departure. He didn't have to go into it in detail but just saying - nothing happened, we went to an ACDC consert and he has his music and baseball felt dishonest... It just fuels more speculation.

      Delete
    4. Oh, and there was a comment from James that interested me. They had mentioned that James & Mike Mondays was canceled and James interjected with, "For now." I know I am speculating but to me that implies there was not a major falling out between James and Mike as some had suggested.

      Delete
    5. Mike and James actually reunited in a video playing Contra on Mike's channel.

So if there was a falling out, it seems to be over now... maybe they just got tired of recording the show over skype.

    6. If anything Chris and Eric Allen more likely had a falling out. If that weren't the case, how hard would it have been for the Robocop re review to call him up and say "Hey Eric! I'm putting together a video, would you be up to filming?"

    7. it is probably a strange sign when a video where James merely plays games with an old friend has better view numbers than the podcast (313k to 193k in a week, and for context it also has done better than the "band" music video).

Alright Gamers, in honor of Cobra Kai getting a 4th season, I've decided to go back in time and check out The Karate Kid game on the NES system. *Holds up NES cartridge of the actual game*

If you were a kid in the 1980s like me, chances are you saw this movie called The Karate Kid. Boy moves to new town, boy meets new girl, boy gets his ass kicked by vicious bullies, boy learns Karate from an Asian man, boy enters tournament, fights his enimes, and wins. Happy ending, huh!? So naturally, this would make a great game adaptation right? Wrong, apparently LJN decided to develop not only another crappy licensed game to add to the list of other crappy games (DuckTales being shown in a pile of NES games, alongside Ghostbusters and Dick Tracy, despite being a good liscened game) but a karate kick in the balls, to our childhoods as well. *Stock sound of guy moaning in pain*

    1. Seems to be a pretty genuine message he sent James. He posted on facebook that he had a lot of messages from previous haters wishing him well and apologising for how they treated him online in the past. I Was one of those people, and he was really cool in his responses to me and had a great attitude towards everything, he was telling me how liberated he felt making videos now too and how much fun he was having. Like,if you dont like his videos, thats fine, they are what they are.I find them goofy fun now and dont take them too seriously. But I still dont understand the attitude of this blog making him out to be the worst person in the world, and analysing everything hes done in his life, trying to look for the most negative interpretation of everything. Hes just a guy doing what he enjoys doing, maybe like everyone he will make mistakes, but this attitude of looking through everything he does and wanting to prove how horrible he is,its just so unhealthy. If you wanna have fun and make some jokes about his videos, cool, but all the analysing his whole life, his motivations behind everything he does, his personal life, trying to contact people to let them know how awful he is, and stop them from working with him, judging his believes, judging him as a person. That needs to stop

prince mario for example keeps speculating about his friendship with the wise sage. Why?? Why do you take such interest in a guy who makes videos personal friendships. And i keep telling you nothing happened, they are still friends. speculation like that is dangerous and unnecessary.

Maybe if some people got rid of this notion about how horrible he is, and reached out to him, youd actually find that hes not that bad!

    2. @JMC1396 I have tried to help Chris multiple times in his YouTube and Facebook comments and I'm blocked in both. Still to this day, Chris has demonstrated he can't take even constructive criticism.

As for Chris' relationship with Eric Allen, he hasn't been featured in a video since 2014 and I certainly am not the only one that has speculated they had a falling out. I remember Chris said the reason Brad Harp couldn't play the genie again is that he moved away and it COULD be a similar case with Eric Allen in a way he's moved on from Chris' content as the Wise Sage.

I could message Chris through my personal Facebook account since I'm not blocked there but I do not like the idea of revealing info like that (especially since fans and non fans of mine have found out about my personal social media accounts) and I have no idea how Chris would react if some random person asked him about Eric Allen (he certainly knows the name PrinceMario but no way would he know my real name).

      Delete
    3. @JMC1936 I believe I have found the source of your confusion. It is because your speculations are based on things that are simply not true. At no point has BatDan made Chris out to be the worst person in the world nor does he analyze every single thread Chris does in his life. If anything, BatDan only comments on the content that Chris produces and how he behaves online - both of those things are fair game for criticism even if you do not like it. I don't know what you mean by contacting people Chris works with and trying to stop that. Can you elaborate?

I feel that once you realize that BatDan does not make Chris out to be the worst person in the world and that BatDan actually only comments on a small portion of Chris' life your confusion will end.

      Delete
    4. I don't think anyone has ever called Chris the "worst person in the world." There are much worse people than Chris. People on here just mock Chris for his videos and attitude on the internet. Also, I've never found Chris a "nice guy." The way he treats his critics (even NICE critics) online has always made him look like a douchebag. That's the main reason why I don't like Chris.

      Delete
    5. I should also point out that the reason I won't contact Chris through my personal Facebook account is that critics of this blog would find out my personal Facebook and real name then harass me. I also don't discuss Bores on any of my personal accounts.

      Delete
    6. That was cool of James to say that. It was also interesting to see Bores say something nice after that while begging fiasco.

I still think bores is unfunny and not a gamer, but I'm a fucking adult now, married with a kid and after a decade and a half of hating bores... I'll just let (rather, I already have) bygones be bygones. I don't really need to continue to add fuel to the hate for bores but that doesn't mean I'll start to like him. I won't mind if they collab again, maybe bores will get better with a few pointers from James, who knows. All I know is that bores will continue to be bores (and boring and unfunny which is why I only read this blog instead of watching his videos) and James will always be James. You can already tell which one is the better out of the two.

  23. I watched the new Cinemassacre Mailbag video and here are my thoughts. I do find it nice of James to lend Bores help with his channel as prior to that Chris' channel was basically dead.

However, does that vindicate Chris and his wrongdoings? Not at all! If anything, Chris plagiarized James more in 2020 than he did in 2007 and had an army of fanboys use the "Chris and James are friends" as an excuse. Chris also killed any momentum he gained from the crossover by reviewing various cereal products because Chris seemed to have the mindset that it's 2008 and Chris is back on top.

I don't think Chris and James "are friends" but rather on good terms. James helped Chris revive a dead channel but Chris killed the momentum James gave him.

    1. Basically what youre saying is "people think hes a nice guy, including someone im a big fan of, but i dont like his videos,so hes a scumbag and nothings going to change that"

You can not like his videos thats fine, but seriously, why are you so determined to hate him and every single thing he does? Hes just making videos he likes, silly goofy videos about cereal,so what? He does it because he enjoys making him,and the people who get a kick out of his goofy videos enjoy watching. And hes not under some grand delusion that hes the biggest thing on youtube that you seem to think he is,read the e mail,he even says that James is a big time youtuber and he really appreciates him taking time to work with him on his small channel.

No one deserves to have a whole blog dedicated to hating everything they do, and I think all things considered chris is a strong person for dealing with the hate he got over the years, even if he made some mistakes on the way.My mental health would have been destroyed by all the things that were said about him. Glad he feels so vindicated and free these days.

Hopefully one day youll let go of all the negativity here,i used to throw so much hate at irate gamer and get so caught up in it,but yeah,i think if you can look at things more objectively you can grow a lot!

    2. Chris has plagiarized content from others as well. He even "borrowed" an entire article once (minus the lead paragraph).

And that doesn't even touch the times when Chris personally attacked James and made false implications against him (the ebegging spoof and Opening Up video). James wants to let that go and that's cool but Chris' behavior goes far beyond making some "mistakes".

      Delete
    3. If Chris just made bad videos, I probably wouldn't despise him as much as I do. Like I said, it's his behavior and attitude online that REALLY pisses me off about him.

I don't like Nickelback. But I don't hate the band members as people just for making bad music. But imagine if Chad Kroeger copyright struck videos that talked negatively about him, or he insulted people for leaving negative comments on his music videos, saying things like they have "daddy issues." He wouldn't really look like a nice guy, would he?
