You know, I thought Bores couldn’t possibly sink any lower than he is now. The man has no respect from anyone in the gaming community, he’s seen as a complete joke. He’s incredibly lazy, sometimes resorting to stealing footage from other people.
But this? This is outright despicable.
For those not in the know, a few days ago, the AVGN YouTube channel posted a goofy Cheetahmen II video that related to a Kickstarter about the game. The Kickstarter itself is about funding a complete, less buggy version of the game for release. Personally, I thought it was a dumb idea, essentially polishing a turd. But beyond that, I didn’t care.
BUT BECAUSE IT’S KICKSTARTER, PEOPLE WENT FUCKING INSANE!
The backlash was immense, people cried out “sell-out”, “scammer” and blah blah blah. I didn’t give my piece before because I was neutral to this, and being neutral isn’t good enough, you have to outright HATE or else you’re called a dick-sucking white knight fanboy. *sighs* I have nothing against people neutral to Chris Bores, hell it’s better if they’ve never heard of him.
Despite saying that James and Cinemassacre get none the money, the backlash only got worse. Mike, tired of all the lies being thrown around, came out and said that James only did this video as a favor because he’s a nice guy. Similar to how he does appearances for TGWTG and ScrewAttack. In fact, they’re in talks with the people behind the Kickstarter to take the video down.
By the way, Pat the NES Punk was in the video too. Where’s the hate for him? Where’s his backlash?
I know Kickstarter is popular to hate right now, because most of the time you don’t know you’ll get what you donated money for. There are a lot of crooked ones out there too. But what people tend to forget is that it’s optional, nobody is pointing a gun to your head and saying you have to donate it. Personally, I don’t care for it. If people want to do Kickstarter or IndieGoGo, more power to them. Kind of makes me wonder what the Kickstarter haters think of PBS and how they operate on donation drives and outside funding.
Besides, if you’re really weary about something, donate like $5 dollars. A small amount that you’re not going to miss if it ends up being a scam.
Also, Kickstarter is not e-begging. Because it offers rewards depending on the donation amount. E-begging gives nothing back to the donators, and only benefits the recipient.
You’re probably wondering what this is leading to. Bores posted a video titled “Ebegging: The Spoof”. I’ll give you three guesses to what it’s about, and the first two don’t count.
The video opens with Bores saying that everyone else is “ebegging” so he’ll do it to. So you’ll steal money and offer nothing in return? Just like how you steal footage without giving credit?
“I own every game in existence” No you don’t! Oh wait, was that supposed to be a joke? Ugh, I can see what type of video were in for.
“I got income from many sources every month” YouTube and Blip. That’s two sources, and you barely get Blip money since you rarely post videos there. Hell, you barely get YouTube money since you rarely post videos there as well.
“Me and my friends need more money” You don’t have any friends.
He says he needs money for a private jumbo jet to E3, and a special effects department that rivals Lucasarts. That’s a video game developer you dumb fuck! Did you mean Lucasfilm? Even so, the correct George Lucas company would have been Industrial Light & Magic. Also, the fact he even brought up special effects continues to show that is all he cares about in his videos.
Then he follows that with “possibly in a couple years there will be ick-significant” changes to his show. Didn’t you just say that you’d get special effects that would rival George Lucas? That’s not insignificant at all. Even this “not to be taken seriously spoof” has the same problems as your other videos
“Specially if you’re one of those no-life haters that takes a microscope to the show” Hi Chris, thanks for the plug! Also, I don’t need a microscope to find the problems in your show. Just knowledge of basic video editing and video gaming in general. Heh, Chris trying to take a stab at me, that’s so cute.
“Sure you’ll say it sucks, but now you’ll say it sucks IN STYLE” Nope. I’ll just point out how the effects mask your shitty acting and writing. Actually, that’s what I do now so… nothing would change.
He brings up that he would save up with his monthly checks but why bother when he could just e-beg. *sighs* I’m going to bring up another stupid point people made towards James, and that was all the people that don’t realize how expensive movies really are. All these people were like “why doesn’t James just save up with all his money sources”. Movies are a costly investment, that’s why producers exist. Some multi-million dollar movies require multiple producers. Hell, even a smaller movie can cost a good seven digits. It isn’t just actors, directors and writers that get paid, there’s countless crew members, camera men, lighting, makeup, sound technicians, so much more.
If you’re filming in a real place, you need to pay a permit. Or you could build a set, that costs money too. You need to feed everybody, so there’s catering. Sometimes you have to stay on the set for days at a time so living arrangements are a must. Basically, filmmaking is a lot more expensive than people think. That $220 million that went into The Avengers didn’t just go to the effects and actors.
Besides, if James only made his movie for like $10,000 dollars, it would be like Birdemic. A movie so incompetent it uses Particle Illusion explosions. The very same ones Chris used for years. Hmmmm.
Sorry, got off tangent there.
He then says he’d need $20,000 but because he lives in make-believe land he really needs $250 million dollars. To be fair, this spoof could work in the hands of someone else. Someone that’s actually subtle and isn’t purposely attacking a certain person. If anything, this video shows Bores has all the subtly of a chainsaw-wielding samurai bear with a Mohawk.
After say he wants millions, his phone rings. When he answers it, you can clearly see it’s off. You don’t see or hear who’s on the other side, but it sounds like a loan shark/mob boss who’s demanding money, and Bores says something about robbing a bank. I think there’s a joke here but I can’t seem to find it.
Oh God, he pulls the “country is in a recession” card. Have you considered that people don’t donate massive numbers? Most of the time they donate a small amount? And what people do with their money is their choice. I don’t think the anti-Kickstarter groups get that. It’s their choice to give it to the Red Cross, or to someone on the internet they like. At least they aren’t giving it animal killing organizations like PETA, that would be dumb.
He then goes into the reward incentives. Donating $100 gets you nothing. Ah, see that’s the very definition of e-begging, asking for something and giving nothing in return. That’s not what… never mind I’ve already said enough on that.
$1000 gets you a flask of his spit. Again, better people can do this.
$100,000 gets you a random trinket he tried to sell on eBay for more because it’s associated with his name. Say Chris, how’s your DVD and merch sales going? I’m sure they’re flying off the shelf, I mean, that’s why you’re constantly giving them away. It’s not like nobody is buying them because you have very few actual fans, and most them are little kids that have to ask mommy and daddy if they can have it. That would be silly.
$1 million gets you one of his bowel movements that we’ll love because we know his shit doesn’t stink. You know, even though he’s being sarcastic here, his egotistical behavior before shows that he probably does think his shit doesn’t stink. Yeah, hard to take that as a joke when it’s based in reality you hypocrite.
He ends the video saying … oh for fuck‘s sake. “If you don’t donate, I’ll have cartoon cheetahs I MEAN pixel demons jump out of the TV and beat your ass” and he gives a stupid duck face. Oh, real subtle. Real fucking subtle you dirt bag. You shouldn’t talk, your contests are exactly like Kickstarter. You ask for subscribers, you give them stuff in return. Only unlike Kickstarter, you only give them to a select number of people. People your mommy chooses, because those are the “loyal fans” that deserve crap like posters and douchey necklaces. And when non-subscribers try to enter, you get angry at them, saying “ONLY SUBSCRIBERS CAN ENTER”. Fuck. You.
That was… disgusting. Deplorable. Vile. So much for “I haven’t watched him in two years” huh Chris? You are the last person to call out someone for doing Kickstarter. It’s so obvious what this video is doing too. James was hit hard for promoting that Cheetahmen thing, so here’s Bores swooping in and saying “I think Kickstarters are stupid, subscribe to me instead!”
Here’s the funny part though. In the last 30 days, JamesNintendoNerd has only had subscriber gains. Today (August 11th 2012), Bores has lost at least 58 subscribers. That sounds like complete backfire to me.
By the way Chris, if you try another contest after this, it will show exactly what kind of a scumbag person you are.
EDIT: KUKEDUDE has pointed out that Bores has updated the video description.
*UPDATE* - Due to a few people not liking this video, I am seeking
permission to take this video down from someone that doesn't exist, even
though I can easily remove this video from my channel anytime I like.
In the meantime I will be closing comments, closing voting, and leaving
the ad's where they are so I can still continue to make even more money
off you even though I will keep telling you I'm against this video
I'm sorry, are you calling out James and Mike for disabling comments and ratings? Something you do ALL THE DAMN TIME?! No! You don't get to do that! How are you capable of making your hypocrisy worse and worse?
Greg Pabich is a real person. They have to ask him to take down the video because they put it up for him.
Also, they've disabled ads on that video. I've checked with Adblock off.
I find it funny that at one point, Chris told his fans to support DatBoiDrew, who himself was holding a Kickstarter. So, it's okay for your artist to do it? Oh wait, if he's still your artist. A while ago, he removed links to his site, and took down the Up Up Ubi review he made.
A smart person can make a lot of insightful and accurate criticisms about the culture of asking for money for personal pet projects that has sprung up online, a smart person could also be highly critical about any number of internet celebrities and so on. Chris Bores is not one of the smart people. Any insightful or accurate sentiments he may be expressing are rendered moot by virtue of the way that this entire video reminds me of that old saying about people in glass houses who like to throw stones.
ReplyDeleteSorry BatDan, I thought this video was hilarious and really raised my opinion of Chris, while James has only been going down in my estimation since around the time he started getting serious about his film. Chris is still a piece of shit, and he does indeed 'suck' as per the blog topic, but at least he is somewhat self aware and blatant about his shittiness.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't say he's self aware about his shittiness. He calls his reviews "a movie-like material" and considers his piece-of-shit plot being "epic". I don't find anything hilarious in his latest vid. Jokes and the entire "message" was just a failed mockery attempt.
DeleteI thought the message was an successful mockery attempt. But then I again I actually agree with the sentiment behind what he was saying and the points raised by the video. If you feel otherwise the video probably comes off entirely differently.
DeleteSee, the biggest problem with you comment is the worm "sentiment", as it implies that Bores gives a fuck about this whole debacle. However, seeing as he's already built his "career" on pretending to care about things he doesn't, I'm almost certain that the only reason Bores made this video was because it was what he perceived to be popular at the time. In the end, this video is little more than another ripoff, this time of the people insulting the guy who he's been ripping off for years. If you want to rally behind someone over this "Kickstarter is evil" horseshit, go to Asalieri or TheArchfiend. At the very least, they're actually voicing their honest opinions.
DeleteWell I already do go to the two mentioned individuals. It is just interesting to see the same message from someone else.
DeleteYou're right though, Bores probably doesn't care too much about any of this and his video is really just to attract attention to his increasingly irrelevant self, and it has done that very well I would think. I also think it's notable that is such a blatant attack video, something without much of a precedent from Chris. It's still kind of passive aggressive obviously, but it is certainly all out.
Again, he's kicking Rolfe while he's down. He's a fucking coward, is what he is.
DeleteI don't disagree, it could be described that way.
DeleteIt's a new thing for him though, to be so personal and upfront with his douchebaggery.
I'm just disgusted by the people who are actually praising him for this shit. It shows that either they're too blind to realize that Bores is using their stupid cause for his selfish gain, or they're that blindly determined to shit on Rolfe over this that they'll actually stoop so low as to knowingly rally behind a false hero.
DeleteSo what Karl Reid is saying is that Chris has gone up in his estimation because he played to a (mis)conception that Karl already had about James Rolfe. That isn't, in any way, a reason to praise Chris. It's like politicians who manage to get into office by criticising their opponent instead of promoting what they'd do right. Chris Bores jumped on the bandwagon and proved himself to be an even bigger and more shameless hypocrite than we realised, and Karl fell for it hook line and sinker.
DeleteI don't know where you're getting that from. He went up in my estimation because he has the bravery/stupidity to flat out attack someone he cannot win against and has been avoiding for years. I never would have thought he would make such a blatant anti-AVGN piece, I didn't think he had it in him. I can't help but admire his brass-neckedness. I don't like the guy at all(hence why I read this blog), he is now, and forever will be, a selfish hack.
DeleteYes, I enjoy seeing my own opinions being expressed by someone else, just like everyone else, we all like a good circlejerk, which is why horrible sites like reddit are so popular. No one is truly objective and immune to liking/disliking people based on their opinions as matched to one's own opinions, but to win internet arguments you need to pretend you are. That ego boost/endorphine rush, whatever you want to call it, that I had when seeing the video(in Asa's recent favourites) and hearing my opinions coming out of someone else's mouth, inspired me to come here and post and no doubt coloured my interpretation of the video.
Let's be clear here, I'm in this purely for the e-drama. I enjoy it because I am at heart a misanthrope, I lead a very dull life so I take pleasure and interest in the drama and gossip that internet reviewers create by the ton. I don't actually like any of them(except possibly sfdebris, he is at least watchable, when he isn't trying to create memes and extending jokes for minutes on end) so I come here to read about the shittiness and horrible perso-ness of one in particular, that being Bores. I am no fan of his, I am not rallying behind him, I am not defending his pathetic passive aggressive video. I just think it is stunning to see him release such a video, and perhaps my reaction is coloured by my own bias and opinions. But that is true of everyone.
Jesus, I think I've put more effort into this post than Chris has in his entire HOVG to date.
Okay, that makes sense. Sorry if I've misconstrued your previous statements. That being said, my arguments still apply to those who are doing what I thought you were doing, especially Asalieri and Archfiend, who should both know better.
DeleteWow, I mean, WOW, this is really low, really REALLY low. This is the LAST person who should be doing this kind of bullshit, ever.
ReplyDeleteMan, I never liked Chris Bores either, but I never thought he'd be such an hypocrite to make shit like this. I was probably one of the few people here who still didn't hate him, just dislike him... but this is as low as he can possibly sink.
I never wish anyone ill, but I hope Bores falls one day, very very hard.
BTW, let me tell you a little story:
DeleteOnce upon a time, there was a little convention named Con Bravo, and it was going to last three days. A man was supposed to appear in the convention those three days, but his flight was cancelled, and he was informed that he wouldn't be able to go there until the third day. The man didn't want to dissapoint his fans, so he rented a car and drove all the way to Burlington, Ontario, in Canada.
I honestly can't bring myself to hate a man like that.
Exactly. I'm not going to pretend James Rolfe is God, or Jesus, or Buddha, or whatever the haters think I think he is. He is mortal, he does make mistakes, and it is okay to call him on them when he makes them. What I am NOT okay with are jackhats who think that these mistakes put him on the same level as the constant stream of FAIL known as Chris Bores. I hold no doubt in my heart that James Rolfe is a good man, and if that makes me a fanboy, then that's just fine by me.
DeleteMost disappointing is the way Encyclopedia Dramatica and Archfiend have gone for the jugular as well.
DeleteI'm not going to act like everything James does is gold. I never liked Overanalyzers and the latest episodes of YKWBS suck too. But I won't act like he suddenly transformed into the satanic hellspawn of Hitler all of the sudden, just because of the Cheethamen II video and because rants made by some asshat who clearly doesn't know how expensive movies can be; and I sure as Hell won't treat Bores as a hero, not now, when he degraded into the lowest common denominator.
Delete@Notorious B.I.G.O.T.
DeleteWell, EncyclopediaDramatica is understandable. Their entire website is based around pissing people off. Every article on the website is meant to offend people.
For me, the funny part is how most of the video seems to be a stab against James' movie funding (which nobody really talks about anymore because of the NEW flame war fuel), yet he released it rather shortly after this whole Cheetahmen outbreak. Must've working on this video for a while...
ReplyDeleteI don't understand this whole Kickstarter hate either. For pretty much the very first time, it allows developers to get funding by the actual consumers, allowing for project that would otherwise never see the light of day because it's not "mainstream enough".
Sure, there are rather questionable projects (like the Cheetahmen project, which is quite pointless), but it's always the consumers choice. Supply and demand. It's capitalism 101.
Why Pat is not a victim of this flame war? Simple, because he's not nearly as famous as James, meaning that there are not nearly as many people who hate him.
Speaking of this flame war: It's really getting ridiculous now. I admit that not every AVGN episode is the "bestest episode EVAR", and that not everyone of his other projects are instant classics (Overanalyzers needed a lot more work, so do the recent Bullshit episodes). Heck, the AVGN character itself feels a bit stale at times.
So, why am I not a hater? Simple: James truly enjoys making these videos. He is also honest. He's not a jackass who thinks his words are LAW and acts like he stands above every other internet celebrity (basically Asa and Archfiend in a nutshell). He doesn't run aways from the truth, piling on more and more shitty excuses and lies (Bores in a nutshell).
No, he knows when he makes a mistake, and he apologizes for them. But since this is the internet, the haters don't care about this and continue the flame war anyways...
Damn, that's a lot of text Oo !
"Speaking of this flame war: It's really getting ridiculous now." Yes, it's ridicolous to the point when a group of people declared to start a flagging fest (for scam and fraud) against AVGN.
Delete*facepalm*
DeleteWhat's next? A "Stop AVGN" internet petition -.- ?
The video description:
ReplyDelete*UPDATE* - Due to a few people not liking this video, I am seeking permission to take this video down from someone that doesn't exist, even though I can easily remove this video from my channel anytime I like. In the meantime I will be closing comments, closing voting, and leaving the ad's where they are so I can still continue to make even more money off you even though I will keep telling you I'm against this video
This could work, however, Bores is guilty of most of this (Closing comments, voting) and, no Bores, they have to get permission from Greg as they put the video up for him. Not to mention, while James is without a doubt guilty of supporting a scam, he is not getting any of the money from the actual kickstarter. Also, Greg does exist, you dumb fuck.
lol, everyone seems to love his video it seems. Yes, Irate Gamer steals gameplay footage from other people, has his mommy personally pick the loyalist of fanboys for his contest winners, flags videos that make fun of him and wasn't he involed in a scam himself? Like he has any right to bash other users for the shit they pull. LOL
ReplyDeleteAnd they say the AVGN fans are blind.
Apparently James can't take the video down because Pat(the dumbass) still supports the kickstarter. So far, Mike has been the most mature one. AS for why Pat doesn't get any hate, because no one really knows who he is. Other than that guy who was once in an AVGN video, and has zero acting ability.
ReplyDeleteI just hope we get some form of a response to all this on his actual website. I mean, I don't need one because I really don't care about this whole Cheetahmen thing to begin with, but hopefully it'll help clear the air with some people.
DeleteOne thing I was surprised you didn't point out about the bullshit of this video was that Bores is basically ripping off the people who are criticizing the guy who he's been ripping off for years. To me, that's the really low part, and just shows that there are no limits to the things Bores will do to become popular again (besides, you know, putting in any actual effort)
ReplyDeleteI think it's completely shitty that Bores dropped endorsement for Drew's work. Sure I didn't like Drew's game when I first played it, but it is his first game, he started out a lot better than I did.
ReplyDeleteThe Cheetahmen II project is a perfect example of why people should be skeptical of KickStarter, but Drew's projects are a perfect example of how KickStarter can be vital for indie developers with potential.
Chris has hypocritically jumped on the bandwagon at the expense of one of his few friends.
Well, he stopped endorsing Drew's work long before he made this video. I just brought it up now because it only shows what a hypocrite he is.
DeleteYou know what makes this video worse? Back in 2007 when Bores first started and was being criticised for plagiarism, well, James could have easily made a spoof video calling Chris out, but instead showed some respect and just ignored him. Now Chris is here making a spoof video of James... that's gratitude for ya.
ReplyDeleteEven though this video was clearly a spoof, I thought it was really bad and a low point for Chris. There isn't much for me to say that the blog post doesn't already point out.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I will give Chris points for actually acknowledging his "haters".
Oh please. He's already done that with that stupid joke about a sandwich or something.
DeleteSHADOW BORES: I thought you sent an army of trolls to post hate comments on his videos?
DeleteDEVIL BORES: Yeah, but they're so useless that they can't even make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich properly.
Or along those lines. I much preferred the Third Rate Gamer parody.
SHADOW GAMER: I thought you sent an army of trolls to post hate comments on hi videos?
DEVIL GAMER: Yeah, but...they're...dumb.
SCREEN CAPTION: 'Pwned.'
I was thinking the same thing! Though I think it was actually Mullet Bores that gave us that gem.
DeleteThis is definately a new low for Bores. I probably wouldn't mind it as much if he was at least subtle about but the way he presents this makes him look like he knows nothing of the situation. This just makes him look like a fucking scumbag.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Bores. All this e-begging is getting stupid and greedy. Rolfe should've looked into what he slaps his AVGN "brand" on. Furthermore I remember Mike exposed Chris by posting a PM from him to Rolfe on Screwattack.
ReplyDeleteDude, as much as I love James, stop having a circlejerk around his shit. Not all of it is good, and Irate Gamer had a damn funny video... for once.
ReplyDeleteIf you would've bothered to read the above comments, you'd realize that we don't worship James' work like the bible. There's quite a lot of space between "OMG THIS IS SHIT!" and "OMG THIS IS AWSUM!"
DeleteYOU WORTHLESS PIECE OF SHIT I-RATE GAMER IS AWESOME!!! I hope you get fucking drilled to the cross, hung out to dry like a motherfucking Jesus Christ nigger! Now you can truly see what it's like to get hung out to dry!
ReplyDelete"Oh my, someone disagrees with me! This must mean he's my mortal enemy, and I am therefore obligated to question his worth as a human being, wish that he dies in a painful way AND use random racial slurs, all while feeling superior in every way!"
DeleteYour objective and insightful opinion sure is beyond measure. We can't possibly hope to come up with a counter-argument.
You said "Animal-Killing companies like PETA, does that mean you think PETA are hypocrites?
ReplyDeletePETA is not the group people think they are. They support the "Total Liberation" of all animals. That includes:
Delete-No Pets
-No Food
-No Aides (Seeing-eye dogs, for example)
-No Animal Control Services
-No Medical Research (Without animal testing, we would have virtually no medicine)
But behind closed doors, PETA euthanizes more than eighty-five percent of the animals it takes into its care. PETA supports (and helps fund) violent animal rights activists. PETA is not a good organisation. And that's just the tip of the iceberg for PETA.
Them constantly coming up with weird or stupid campaigns that tend to hilariously backfire doesn't help, either. I still wonder why anyone takes them seriously.
DeleteThough in fairness, they do sometimes do good things, like when they stopped frog urine from being put in woman's perfume or something like that. Not that I'd ever send them money, that is.
DeleteArchfiend does though...
DeleteAdmit it BatDan. James Rolfe and Mike Matie screwed up big time. The reason you can't see that is because they're not Chris Bores.
ReplyDeleteNo one is denying they screwed up, but it's only become "big time" because a few stupid fuckwads just wouldn't let it go, loser.
DeleteAlmost like how you guys can't stop talking about Chris Bores failures.
DeleteYou mean the ones that keep on happening all the time, as opposed to this rare instance that idiots are hopping on like drunken hobos on a puddle of spilled vodka?
DeleteOf cause they screwed up. But don't you think that some people got slighty carried away? I swear this is even worse than when James was asking for funding (aka "e-begging to buy a tropical island", as some people seem to believe)
DeleteAnd don't you find it weird that some of the greatest AVGN haters and e-begging accuser somehow have nothing bad to say about Bores (who has done much worse a lot more consistently)? It's like they plain hate James and are passively supporting his knock-off.
Or this is another case of typical internet logic: "James bad. James don't like Chris. Chris is friend. Friend is good!"
dude stop being so IRATE.
Delete@Doresh
DeleteSeriously. And maybe I just haven't been paying attention, but has anyone else noticed that a fair number of the people agreeing with Bores on this one have never/almost never commented here before?
@ lordlaharl
DeleteI agree. What the hell are all these IG supporters coming from?
It would seem as though the sheep are just as opportunistic as the shepherd, yes?
Delete@lordlaharl:
DeleteThey're like those kids in school who only beat people up who are already on the ground, only to run away afterwards.
And I almost miss Ozzy. His comments at least looked a lot more mature...
Eh, I wouldn't go that far, especially with what they've devolved into since the last post.
DeleteMy Chris you certainly know how to make yourself less likable then you already are. Its like you saw the AVGN Kickstarter controversy and said to yourself "Hey he fucked up, maybe I can make myself look better by making a spoof of the whole thing, that'll show em." Sadly, you just came off as an arrogant little brat who thinks that if you jump on a bandwagon, you'll become more popular. Seriously, it takes a special kind of individual to create a video when everything you said in it applies to yourself. And by special, I mean very special.
ReplyDeleteAlso it's not surprising he took a potshot at you Dan. He had to have gotten into some trouble when it came out that he stole footage for that Sonic Generations video (Probably SWAG scolding him). Where else would such a thing be first exposed except here? We sure do take a microscope to his "work" so to speak.
Bores is a fucking idiot.
ReplyDeleteI truly believe there's something wrong with him.
Wow. I mean, I didn't even watch the Kickstarter video, and only heard about the backlash it got. Bores amplified every complaint people had about that video to the point where it doesn't even seem like something a sane person would make. I should also point out that James' Schwarzenegger Games AVGN has just passed 1 million views, and Bores' Silver Surfer Irate Gamer has yet to pass 100,000. I was hoping that Bores' Irate the '80s would be bad so we'd have something to talk about; but this defies all possible human decency.
ReplyDeleteMy thought on these Kickstarter and IndieGoGo proposals-they are easy to exploit, but they can be ways to legitimately invest and seek out investors. Again, if you still feel weary about it, don't donate more than $10; so you're not out too much if the deal does go sour. In the meantime, I need to go blow off some steam from Bores' shameless display of hubris.
I never thought I'd be commenting on this page again, but seeing how Bores went off on the video, I'm gonna give my two cents on the situation. In all honesty, I could have found Bore's video quite funny, but considering how he in the past has done his own scam with deal dash, shamelessly exploit subs with countless contest and once supported a man who has done a kickstarter, he is the LAST person to go around making a video like this. It's like he was SO desperate to take advantage of this backlash somehow that he was willing to forget his own misteps in order to move in while the iron was fresh. This isn't about *James vs. Bores* this is about looking in a goddamn mirror before doing such a pathetically desperate stunt like this in hopes to get back in the popular consensus. Truth be told, I was respecting the fact that Bores was trying to do his own thing with no worry of AVGN (at least within these later times) and being indifferent about it like James was, but any and all of the small bits of respect I had for him pretty much is gone now with this, doing something so outrageously out of character of the person of his own character and himself. Blame James, Mike, Pat, whoever you want for this whole cheetahmen II fiasco, even talk about Mike's past misdoings with the message, but one solace I can expect for them is that they will be mature people about this and, as usual, pay no mind to what Bores has put out, as while the masses may cheer his attempt to be edgy and relevant again just because it's taking a pot shot at James or the others, others who know of Bores own misdoings will see the video for what it really is, A joke that's lost the humor when you realize the guy who told it is no better.
ReplyDeleteI can understand why someone might find the video funny, but it's not my coup of the. He could've tried to imitate the AVGN (hey, at least that would require some effort), instead, he went the "I am obviously macking fun of someone else. Please laugh." route.
DeleteBores doesn't forget his missteps, he fervently denies them or insists they're some kind of avant gard joke we little sheeple don't get. The man is completely shameless.
DeleteI'd rather see anyone else make fun of this kickstarer thing. Archfiend, Game Dude, Retrogamer3 even fucking Asalieri, but Bores's attempt just doesn't work because he has no credibility to MAKE it work.
ReplyDeleteThe thing is, as I've stated above, these guys HAVE made these jokes before. Bores is basically ripping off their schtick now.
DeleteYou're deadset on going down with this ship, aren't you?
ReplyDeleteDoes that imply you would abandon Bores the first chance you get?
DeleteI don't quite understand your question, it sounds like a loaded one that implies that I have some sort of blood oath with the Irate Gamer, in that I can "abandon" him.
DeleteI do love that thing where he thinks his haters have to scrutinize his videos to find something wrong with them.
ReplyDeleteThis from the dipshit who ragged on Mission Impossible for not getting the option to refuse the mission. Because that's clearly why you'd buy a videogame, bring it home and fire up the NES.
Also proving that he knows nothing about the show the game is based on. Every episode started out with that speech. It was the whole point of the show!
DeleteBut imagine if they'd made an episode where Jim DID refuse the mission and sat in his apartment drinking beer and watching football for an hour. Would you have kept watching?
DeleteNo, you'd have changed the channel or popped in a movie. That's why that's my favorite "derp i r fur reel gammer" moment of Bores's. He probably pulled that out of his ass to have something to complain about, but he made a video where he says he wants a game to give him the option not to play it. And he expects to be taken seriously and given respect.
I used to have a couple Choose Your Own Adventure-type books where they gave you the option not to go on the adventure, and it was retarded there too for the same reason. Hell, I have a newer book like that now, but it basically calls you a wuss in the ending for not answering the call.
"So this mission is impossible? Let's not bother." to quote Hugh Dennis.
DeleteRight he's complaining about the game being true to the source material! It would be like a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Game review complaining about playing as a Ninja Turtle(Not that it wouldn't be fun to play as Casey Jones).
DeleteWhich makes adding in the NES Exploding even more head scratching worthy. The player never blew up in the show that was Inspector Gadget that did that!. In Mission Impossible smoke would usually come out of the player as soon as the message finished playing.
Thank you for the rant about the Kickstarter thing, BatDan. I was keeping my rage inside me while this drama thing is going on an thankfully, your rant about Kickstarter has calm me down.
ReplyDeleteI don't know why people are calling James an e-beggar. To all haters out there, there is a HUGE difference in donating and begging, morons! Donating is when you are giving something away to help people out while begging is when people desperately ask you for money without giving you any credit. That's the whole point of charity organizations like unicef and WWF! They ask you to donate money to save lives. You feel satisfied when you donate money to them because you are doing your part to save lives and do a greater cause. But begging is when people ask you for money and you get nothing back or take any credit! That's not real donating at all. It's a scam! And James DOESN'T do that!
I need to make a connection to Third Rate Gammer here. At the end of his Home Improvement video, he asked viewers to "Give Me Your Money" to fix his (obviously not broken) computer. That's a perfect example of begging for money, even if it wasn't a real scam to be taken seriously.
DeleteMy favorite Kickstarter joke is still this comic:
Deletehttp://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2011/5/23/
He says "Tor fifty million dollars."
ReplyDeleteDidn't Bores once make a video advertising Deal Dash, a penny-auction website that claims to sell products at really low prices but, in reality, forces people to pay for bids on items they won't necessarily get, thus stealing money from people?
ReplyDeleteThat, right there, is real hypocrisy.
i for one laughed my ass off at this. im completely in awe chris bores on august 12th 2012 made me laugh
ReplyDeleteAnd now for something completely different: I just now stumbled on the "Irate Gamer Wiki" - or "irategamerdoesnotsuck.wikia.com". It doesn't even cover half his episodes (and the once that get covered are stubs at best), and I'm not entirely sure if the URL and the "AVGN fanboys" reference at the start is necessary, especially since the site avoids the accusations (so that might change in the near future when the flame war takes over).
ReplyDeleteThere's one little mention, though:
"Many fans of the AVGN have been expressing critisism on forums and chatrooms around the internet, saying that the Irate Gamer and Angry Video Game Nerd share too much in common. For example, the Irate Gamer was made a year after the AVGN. The Irate Gamer has reviewed many of the same games as the AVGN, and the Irate Gamer loudly curses and drinks beer, much like the AVGN. However, it is rumored that the two are friends, mainly because the AVGN tries to become friends with other game reviewers. "
This weird "AVGN and IG are friends" myth sure is hilarious in hindsight, isn't it?
Thanks for pointing out that there's an IG wiki! Because that made me say, "Cool. That means there's an AVGN wiki." And I hadn't known that.
DeleteHave you seen the actual Irate Gamer wiki, "irategamer.wikia.com"? Hilarious stuff, it's like an Irate Gamer hater vandalized the whole thing and nobody bothered to fix it.
DeleteI just looked at "irategamerdoesnotsuck.wikia.com". Good lord, even his fans can't summarize his stories in a way that doesn't sound stupid.
Delete@ShitDoggyDog:
DeleteOr the site was that way to begin with. Too bad there aren't that many pages.
@lordlaharl:
To their credit, they try to make this wiki look professional and don't upload childish pages mocking AVGN...
This video was downright hilarious. Gonna have to give it to boring man here, that was awesome. Also, you do know he was alluding to James sx or seven sources of income with the first joke, right? I think you're taking this one a bit too seriously. Sure, this video is damn hypocritical and Chris is a pretty shitty human being, but you have to admit he made some good points.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone else remember when one could just be a fan of an internet celebrity without getting caught up in some stupid game of politics? I remember when a friend of mine showed me the Nostalgia Critic for the first time. I laughed my ass of, and not once did I consider whether he was a "circle jerk" or how "horrible" his latest crossover was. Or a year or two before that when I first started watching AVGN, and never once did someone suggest "the minute he uses the words "kick" and "starter" in the same sentence, I'm unsubscribing!" Or how only a couple of years ago, we could make fun of Bores because, you know, HE SUCKS, and save for the occasional Charlie wannabe, we'd be relatively undisturbed, and if he had made a video like this back then, everyone but the stupidest of fanbrats would recognize what a dick he was. Those were good times. Why can't we have our good times again? When will things go back to the way they were?
ReplyDeleteLike how SOPA and ACTA were (IMO) the reasons why Doug Walker started inserting commercial breaks into his reviews?
DeleteActually, the midrolls are due to advertisers giving less money. Nothing to do with SOPA and ACTA.
DeleteAVGN deserves to be called out by everybody for all his bullshit lately.
ReplyDeleteYou're right! It's not like that jerk has ever done anything for us ever! An it's certainly not like he's owned anything resembling- dare I say it- Common courtesy as a human being! *Sarcasm*
DeleteYou know what's bullshit? Cries for attention from people who haven't been relevant in years. See: Bores, Chris
ReplyDeleteBatDan, do you know TheArchfiend actually... found Bores's video funny?
ReplyDeleteHere's the link(I'm from Poland, BTW:
http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/15/bores.png/
that's it. he's gone from irate gamer hater to AVGN hater.
DeleteI thought he just hated anybody who's more famous than he is
DeleteHe's being egotistic because he couldn't achieve any life accomplishments like James. Such a sad being...
Delete@lordlaharl: (The reply button doesn't work for me right now, so I have to make a normal comment)
ReplyDeleteYou mean the time where you could freely voice your opinion on an internet celebrity and enjoy him for his quality alone? Good times.
Sadly, the internet seems to devolve into US politics, where the field is dominated by only 2 groups, who tend to become more and more radical as they try to distance themselves from each other. Logic and objectivity get's thrown out the window as each group turns into a friggin' religion that views even the slightest disagreement with their belief as heresy.
And even you're not affected by this overblown black/white morality, you're still screwed because the rival group will generally assume that you're just as fanatic as they are.
Suffice to say: If anything NEEDS a reboot, it's the internet.
There are many more game reviewers than what exists in Cinemassacre and TGWTG, but nobody pays attention to any of them because they don't cause a lot of e-drama. Even the ones that also have a gimmick and have like 30k subs are somehow overlooked just because they have no connections with anyone outside of the TGWTG/CM bubble.
DeleteThe internet is so big, yet people can apparently only focus on a small part at once...
DeleteYou know, I can't fucking believe people have me completely sympathizing with James and the others. People just seem to want someone take the piss out of him so badly that they are willing to laugh at Bores's video (which to be fair, is kinda funny) despite him being no better when it came to things like begging for subs and the deal dash fiasco or the fact that this is strikingly out of character for the man to just blatantly attack someone like this in contrast to his normally respectfully reserved and indifferent nature on this. Now he just became a complete asshole doing this and everyone is fine with that JUST because it's doing the "In" thing right now and attacking the guy and that he's his "Rip-off". *Sigh*
ReplyDelete@brockwinterssproule
I'd normally agree, but because of the hypocritical nature of the video considering a couple of these things can be applied to him, he has no credibility to make this joke work well if you know his history. I just wish someone else like Archfiend or something had done something like this instead of Bores because at least then, they could present this joke without looking like a hypocrite....
@Doresh
ReplyDeleteYour comment is a thing of beauty. Now I'm suddenly feeling silly for some of my comments. I just need to distance myself from all this nonsense before I get any dumber. Thanks for that.
You know, trying to stay rational and put some sense into internet arguments can be a hopeless struggle, considering that a lot of people seem to have a short attention span and go "tl;dr" once they notice a comment is not agreeing with them (at least that's my theory. Would explain people constantly using arguments that where busted ages ago).
DeleteBut it's good to know there's still hope out there :D
I agree with every point in this recap except one: Don't compare the chainsaw-wielding samurai bear with a Mohawk to a lowlife like Bores.
ReplyDeleteTruly it is the most majestic of God's creatures.
DeleteSeriously, they'd better make a movie about that bear.
DeleteOr a video game. I'd pay good money to play "Chainsaw-Wielding Samurai Bear with a Mohawk".
Delete@ lordlaharl
DeleteI'm going to start a KickStarter campaign to make the 'Chainsaw-Wielding Samurai Bear with a Mohawk' game.
I'd donate to it, if I had money and you had credentials.
DeleteI call scam on that. You e-beggars just want to buy a golden space castle with gumdrops and ice cream XD !
DeleteIt's so sad. Bores it's still envious of avgn success. Dude, it's not 2007 anymore, get over it and try do good videos instead to attack others with unfunny and pathetic videos.
ReplyDeleteI'll keep this one short and simple:
ReplyDeleteGoddammit, Bores.
You know, I just looked at Rolfe's Social Blade, and I gotta say, I'm surprised this whole mess really isn't affecting his subscribers much. Hell, going by this alone, the whole Mike Mattei Sesame Street fiasco was a bigger deal.
ReplyDeleteI guess it shows there is still some justice for AVGN in this world. :)
DeleteNot to mention it demonstrates just how full of hot air the vocal minority can be. Hopefully this next big video he's been working on (apparently it's about games, but not in his Nerd persona) will have most people see that he's awesome again, and we can forget this whole mess.
DeleteMe too because I'm getting sick and tired of this whole drama.
DeleteLooking at the comments on the latest video of Asshole Rechid, i found this
ReplyDeleteAfter reading Danny-Boy's(BatDanNight) post on IG E-Begging(AVGN) spoof, I think it's safe to say anyone still defending James is an official AVGN fanboy(BatDanNight included)
It's getting clearer and clearer why he really made that sad pathetic blog.
lukestarkiller441
just in case, i am not Lukestarkiller allright?.
DeleteOhhh, sorry my bad. I shall delete my last comment then.
DeleteOh, this lukestarkiller441. Doesn't he now that only Sith deal in absolutes?
DeleteIsn't that in itself an absolute?
DeleteLol paradox.
So, now I know my comment will be removed by you AVGN loving idiots, who don't understand that AVGN is a greedy moron, and will love him for his shit-tacular reviews and his money-grubbing schemes. Hear me out. The fact that AVGN would not only advertise for this idiot, who's trying to fix a game that was already fixed by hackers, is one thing. The fact that AVGN and Mike Matei are STILL ADVERTISING (using a closed video) for this motherfucker is another. Why did Mike or James have to get permission to take down the video? It's on their damn account, they should be able to take down their own damn videos. My theory: THEY'RE GETTING MONEY FROM HIM. Not only that, but the Irate Gamer has gotten a ton of respect from me for that video. He perfectly encapsulated not only James' money-grubbing ebegging from his movie, but also the Cheetamen thing is genius. And, don't worry, Pat the NES Punk is still getting flak for it.
ReplyDeleteHi Asalieri/Anonymous4488/Random Busy Streeter How long has been here, still jumping to conclusions to fulfill your own vendetta against anyone?
DeleteNice try, Jumpin' Jack Shit, we can all tell you're just another of our regular haters who created an alt. account to ridicule us. So who is it this time? Ozzwipe? Ass Loser? Archdouche?
DeleteHarry was the guy who busted into my house, stuck a knife under my chin and told me to give James money for his kickstarter. Who was your guy, Jack?
DeleteWhy does Bores get respect for that? He's just jumping on the bandwagon, and before this video, he always seemed to have respect for James (whether this was true or not).
DeleteBut if you believe that back-stabbing deserves respect, than so be it.
I talked with a repro maker. He said to make a Cheetahmen II cart he'd charge $25 plus a donor cart and it'd take about 30 minutes.
ReplyDeleteHe said he probably wouldn't do it because he only repro's good games, and feels that even the 'fixed' Cheetahmen II is still a crappy game.
He also said he's surprised kickstarter doesn't ban them.
Update:
ReplyDeletehttp://cinemassacre.com/2012/08/12/cheetahmen-2-update/
James apologized on his site
ReplyDeleteYet he's still supporting it... such a nice guy.
DeleteHey, he told people to look at the facts given, judge them for themselves, and only buy it if they really want a Cheetahmen II reproduction cart. Don't try to suppress free will, jackass!
DeleteHe didn't apologize. Basically he said he didn't know anything about the project, heard it was a scam after the fact, and fell for this douche's BS explanation, and now believe's it's not a scam.
DeleteSeriously, how does this guy sit with a straight face explaining the cost of manufacturing the game? He's packaging someone else's product and selling it as his own, plain and simple.
Best case scenario, James is falling for this guys B.S. and being scammed worse than anyone else.
Lol, thouse "Kickstarter = e-beggin" guys almost sound like fanatic vegans:
Delete"If we don't want to [eat meat / buy Cheetahmen II], then NOBODY will!"
Yeah, and he doesn't have the balls to really put this video on his channel (unlisted and only reachable through his website) or give an honest opinion other than "That old crook explained everything so it's fine". What a great apology...
DeleteJust for comparison : I paid $35 for Pier Solar and the Great Architects, a Megadrive game made from scratch. The package included a cart with a special PCB (the game's 64megs, the biggest cartridge-based MD game ever), a CD to use on the Mega-CD, a fully colored instruction manual and little goodies like a poster and stickers.
Well it's quite clear that this whole kickstarter is a complete waste of time. Mike himself admitted it was a scam. Yet, for some reason that video is still there. You think he'd, oh I don't know... take it down.
ReplyDeleteIt's not down because James and Pat the NES Punk still support the project.
Delete@lordlaharl
ReplyDeleteHey, is Vasily Raskolnikov a troll?
Probably. As far as I know, he's never posted on this blog before this whole hoohah started up.
DeleteNo trolling here. Only sharing my thoughts on the subject.
DeleteI don't think James is intentionally scamming anyone (Greg, maybe), but I fail to comprehend why Vasily's comments are dismissed as trolling. He's being pretty civil.
DeletePS: A lurker am I no more. Hi everyone.
Vasily really does bring a good point. AVGN needs to TAKE SOME OFFICIAL ACTION. Being quiet only let's people assume the worst and hurt his reputation. Unless AVGN got paid to show up in that video, he shouldn't have any problem forcefully taking down the cheetahmen 2 trailer for simply being unrepresentative of the actual costs and manufacturing process.
Deletehell had Irate gamer taken some offical action against trolling, this blog wouldn't exist. But of course if Chris bores was sane enough to do something like that (instead of still trolling like he does now) he'd be another person entirely.
Okay, how about this…
ReplyDeleteThis guy downloaded a free hacked ROM, is putting it on a cart, and using the manufacturing cost to justify the KickStarter campaign.
You think there’s nothing wrong with that? Okay, I respect your opinion.
Hypothetically, what if I were to download all the AVGN episodes and have a KickStarter campaign to manufacture my own AVGN DVDs to sell as my own? Would explaining how much it cost me to manufacture those DVDs justify anything?
Okay, so I heard from some people that this guy actually owns the rights to Cheetahmen? So I guess my analogy doesn't work that well. He does have the right to manufacture and sell it.
DeleteSo I guess it's not a scam. Still, if this is the same guy who had the shitty work ethic that he made the game for a quick buck in the first place, why does anyone want to pay him again?
Because he's not the original owner.
DeleteLook, I can see why people come here to bash everyone for supporting James and Mike. But what I can't understand is how they support the Irate Gamer and forget of the shit he pulled in the past. Come on guys, aren't the AVGN fans supposed to be the "blind" ones here?
ReplyDelete@ Vasily
ReplyDeleteStop being a jackass. He has made an apology. What more do you want?
Man... this is something. I think this is the lowest Bores has ever gone, honestly. Up until now (not counting the infamous letter to James on his YouTube account Mike saved), he's done a decent job of ignoring the Nerd's existence.
ReplyDeleteBut outright attacking the guy? For something that isn't really his fault to begin with? Low. Really, really low. I won't ramble on too long, since most (intelligent) people here have hammered down the details better than I could, but... wow.
Chris "I'm my own mother" Bores continues to spiral further and further downward. I'm looking forward to the fantastic explosion that will one day take place.
Ha, the imfamous batdanmn called me an AVGN fanboy despite me disliking James and Mike for this Cheetahman 2 thing. All because I refuse to simply forget that Chris has done stupid shit towards his fans too.
ReplyDelete@ThatWackyYoshi
ReplyDeleteThat's the sad irony of it all. You can be as civil about the situation as you can be, but the moment you give sympathy to James, You're labeled an ass-kissing fanboy for some of these bigger AVGN haters. It's like the worlds stupidest political debates on the internet sometimes.
Canidate Rolf has made a blunger in tactics. Rumors are he wants to pull off the canidancy to persue his own interest. But what's this! Canidate Bores has pulled a shocking move, slandering his foe on a subtle callout. Quite an odd move for his normally laid back nature but...what's this...the voters are on his side! They love his stunt! But wait, wasn't canidate Bores himself involved in a scandal setback with outside party "Deal Dash" a while back? This seems awfully desperate of him to do if that's the case....
But in all seriousness, times like this just make me respect guys like Happy Video Game Nerd and COTGW that much more. Because I'm reminded how the're low key and don't have to worry about silly things like this. Plus, neither of them are using the tired "I'm angry and playing games" Gimmick. Its solely about the game with the occasional joke here and there. I at least give James credit in that he, himself, is tired of the Gimmick too and wants to leave this character as you can see in more recent reviews of him rehashing old jokes and general just spouting crude humor for the sake of his character. Bores is on a stagnant line of mediocrity, content with staying there and not trying to improve himself in anyway, even with his less than stellar attempts to try and give his show some kind of storyline. Just to show my repectful and honest opinion of both.
Well, there was at least this one time where Roo was involved in some e-drama because some weirdos decided that the term "JRPG" is racist. A far cry from the Cheetahmen crisis, but weird nontheless Oo
DeleteGah, I was an idiot try talking to him. He called me an "Audist" It apppears he has no problem making fun of people with autisim now. I guess not all of us are blessed with being "normal" and posting a ton of fake Nostalgia Critic videos.
ReplyDeleteI think everyone comes off badly here. James and Mike really should not have supported this scam and were total idiots for turning off the comments and ratings on the video (Talk about adding salt to the wound!). But at the same time I think the reaction from many people is way too ver the top. Again this is a situation, where no on really looks good here
ReplyDeleteBores is absolutely despicable.
ReplyDeleteHe looks more and more like a less insane, socially functional Christian Weston Chandler, right down to the massive hypocrisy (http://www.sonichu.com/cwcki/Hypocrisy).
To own a TV in the UK I have to pay about £140 for a tv license that funds the BBC and I honestly can't think of 5 shows they've done in the last 5 years that I watched. Im honestly not that bothered by the AVGN movie and so I haven't paid any money towards it at all, I have also felt no pressure to do so.
ReplyDeleteWhat do you think is the bigger load of shit
1. paying over a £100 for a channel you never watch otherwise you can't legally own anything that receives tv signals.
or
2. someone asking for a donation that you can easily ignore.
Obviously, the first is more cumbersome (although I approve it).
DeleteHowever,it seems asking for donations online is a deadly sin.
Hey, that reminds me of our public broadcasting in Germany. But I sure hope whoever's collecting your fee is not as shady as this GEZ we have...
DeleteGerman public broadcaster-- that's ARD, right?
DeleteYou know what'd be really funny? If someone made up a REAL scam of a Kickstarter and somehow suckered Bores into promoting it. He'd look like even more of a tool than before this whole mess started, and all the guys like Asaloser and Archdouche would make total jackasses of themselves trying to backpedal out of applauding Bores for his recent travesty of a video.
ReplyDeleteThat's not hard to do. Just create a Kickstarter drive to bring back the original shapes of Lucky Charms. He'll be on that in an instant.
DeleteAs for the video, bah!
We have a new 'Irate the 80s". And, for some reason, Bores calls it a "review/documentary".
ReplyDeleteLong time reader, first time commenter.
ReplyDeleteOut of curiosity, I wanted to know what Bores was up too, because I haven't seen any of his shit in a long time...still producing crap, but the video he made taking a jab at James was the one that surprised me.
The "best" part about that entire video, was that Bores was making fun of himself, without even realizing it. Blocking people, and disabling both the comment section and the like/ dislike buttons? Now THAT is pretty low, to go against the very person you stole from.
Also, just how much hate is Kickstarter getting? I can understand if there's hate for James Rolfe, but I don't see people hating the Double Fine, Wasteland, or Shadowrun Returns Kickstarters.
In fact, I think Shadowrun Returns is the Kickstarter project I take interest in the most, because I'm a HUGE fan of Shadowrun, and the last game for the Xbox 360 and PC was a complete dud.
Just wanted to throw my two cents in.
Are you honestly wondering that Bores has double-standards?
DeleteGuess what? Irate gamer gives us another nod, Mr. Dan.
ReplyDeletehttp://dl.dropbox.com/u/53749552/mrbores01.png
LOL, "if it's on the internet it must be true."
DeleteThere is a proper time to say such a line, and in that one occasion...nope, nope it doesn't work.
I don't see why he can't just reply with his own account. I mean his image can't get any lower, so why make it even worse by hiding in an imitation that everybody can see. xD
It's kind of scary how his audience consist mostly of kids. The comments really show it.
DeleteSaying something like "if it's on the internet it must be true" works REALLY well if you've just made a "spoof" video based on comments made by Kickstarter haters.
Delete@Mario Augusto Puga Valera:
Which in turn undermines this "Most viewers like this video, so Bores is no good!"-thing.
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteThe new Irate the 80s is up. It's on Colorforms.
ReplyDeleteHe also brushed off the accusations that Bores and Ladybuggin777 are the same person; and claimed that a Transformers G1 episode would be expensive to pull off, but he'd like to do one. This from the man who feels a need to buy up antique consoles when he cares nothing for video games.
I think Chris Bores needs to tell the truth right now, before it gets worse for him.
Delete*More stock footage; this time of the 50's
ReplyDelete*"Harry Bores"
*Pup Eye
*More "Crudity in design" for something that was groundbreaking ages ago.
*Voicing props (twice, the one with the ghosts is mediocre and forgettable, and he forgot there is a yellow ghost, Kinky from Pac-Man Arrangement, despite being introduced much, much longer after the original games and cartoon)
*Poor 3-D Thundercats joke and effects
*Another crappy "cousin Joey at the store" scene (swearing included), and showing respect to a game he said was shit but really isn't (just what would happen if he tried playing Faster Harder More Challenging Q*Bert?).
*Obvious Overload.
*Attempt at product placement with his own set of bland unlikable characters and Star Trek references.
That's all I've counted.
James Rolfe uploaded a video about Sega Genesis and Super NES. Check it out, looks good.
DeleteI also had to Google Colorforms. In spite of Bores' claim, they are still in production. In fact, there were Green Lantern, My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and Transformers: Dark of the Moon sets added for the brand's 60th anniversary last year, and they seem to be adding more licenses all the time.
DeleteGreat AVGN Video, with a tantalizing "To Be Continued." And in the vintage clips of James at age ten, he's palpably more talented than Chris now, if only because it's from the gut and not calculated to fit what people seem to like.
DeleteI really like this one. Does anyone else find it really funny how here we are arguing who's a fanboy/fan hater/whatever, and then we get this video of James Rolfe making fun of himself for being a total fanboy?
DeleteWow. The new episode was atrocious. But the part I do like was Bores licking shit because that's the perfect way to describe him. He's a shitlicker. And the ending, wow. It was... Ugh.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I'm glad the ratings on Bores' e-begging spoof continue to decrease. Heh, enjoy the backfire Chris.
Oh yeah, and little Chris didn't try to change his voice. He sounds exactly like Chris. Showing that Bores continue to show little effort in his newer videos.
ReplyDeleteWatching his latest video gave me a thought: When I was a kid, I used to play with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles action figures and they were a lot more fun than Colorforms. They were in 3-dimensions and I could move their arms and legs.
ReplyDeleteyou know who is the most annoying AVGN complainer on Youtube? This guy sylentknyte. Archfiend and Asalieri may complain about him but they still remain somewhat likeable and actually bring up some legitimate points I think. This guy sylentknyte just seems fucking angry in his videos about this whole thing. I don't get why you would feel that much emotion over this
ReplyDeleteThat's what I could ask about guys like MarioTehPlumber. Some people apparently use Youtube to vent of frustration Oo
DeleteBah, I don't find that video more mean-spirited than, say, Linkara's "I Rate Comics" parody (which was a cliché storm of IG parodies). Or Mike Matei calling "Joueur du Grenier" a "fucking bum".
ReplyDeleteWhile IG always had a reputation for being a jerkass, I expected better from sensible-nice-guy Linkara.
The difference between Linkara's parody and Chris Bores' is that Linkara's was funny.
DeleteMore importantly, Linkara's was just an April fools gag, and no more offensive than several other parody videos one can find on YouTube. Bores's was an opportunistic cheap shot, made for the sole purpose of capitalizeing upon a minor slip-up that got way out of hand.
DeleteSatire isn't nice. Satire needs edge and some cruelty to work.
DeleteWhat a faggot little page this is. You actually made this piece of shit in hatred of someone else. Now that's what I call no life, get one, you fucking poser.
ReplyDeleteMore troll hypocrisy and idiocy.
DeleteI wish I was cool like Nicholas Coleman.
DeleteI can't understand, WORDS.....NOT..... FORMING PROPER........ STRUCTURE!
Deletewhat is a "no life"?
How do I get "one", who is being addressed here?
Who is the "fucking poser"? Aren't we always making solid positions and thus posing?
No wait you calling this entire blog "no life, get one, you fucking poser"?
Comma splices are not edible like pizza slices.
This definitely isn't the case considering he says he's been working on it for a while, but it's fun to imagine James' SNES/Genesis retrospective as a subtle (friendly) jab at Bores' HoV.
ReplyDeletePS: Thanks for cleaning up my mess.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qJwdoHTTbsY
ReplyDeleteHere is what I think.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SL8kOR1wj4c
DeleteHere is what I think to your think.
"Hi Chris, thanks for the plug!"
ReplyDeleteBatDanKnight, Bores didn't mention your blog at all in his video. You should probably delete that bit since it doesn't make any sense.
"Basically, filmmaking is a lot more expensive than people think."
And how expensive was it to make all of those AVGN episodes that Rolfe's fans love so much? It seems to me that Rolfe, Matei and company were doing just fine making a quality product without having to ask for donations. I mean, this donation drive was a relatively new development in comparison to his years of internet recognition. Why ask for money now? Did Rolfe not have a source of revenue streams to finance the movie, the same way he financed his web show?
Your argument just doesn't hold water when you stop to consider that most of Rolfe's fans would love his movie no matter how low-rent it was.
"After say he wants millions, his phone rings. When he answers it, you can clearly see it’s off. You don’t see or hear who’s on the other side, but it sounds like a loan shark/mob boss who’s demanding money, and Bores says something about robbing a bank. I think there’s a joke here but I can’t seem to find it."
Come, lighten up. That was funny. Bores as a bank-robbing arch-villian is comedy gold.
"Oh God, he pulls the “country is in a recession” card. Have you considered that people don’t donate massive numbers? Most of the time they donate a small amount? And what people do with their money is their choice."
Why do you feel compelled to defend the donators? Bores isn't going after them, he's going after Rolfe. Perhaps you should do as Bores did and address the fact that Rolfe is asking for money when he seemed to be doing just fine without donations until very recently.
"You shouldn’t talk, your contests are exactly like Kickstarter. You ask for subscribers, you give them stuff in return."
*facepalm*
No, BatDanKnight, Bores' contests are nothing like Rolfe's indiagogo project. People who enter Bores' contests are awarded with free prizes. People who help Rolfe with his indiagogo project are giving away their hard-earned money (or, depending on their age, their parent's hard-earned money).
"Here’s the funny part though. In the last 30 days, JamesNintendoNerd has only had subscriber gains. Today (August 11th 2012), Bores has lost at least 58 subscribers. That sounds like complete backfire to me."
Funny that, I know some people on youtube who said they hate Rolfe and that they are planning on subscribing to him for no other reason then the fact that they want to keep tabs on him and get inspiration for videos they're planning on making about him.
I wanted to write why your wrong but I realized that you may not be missing the key sentences points in batdan's post intentionally.
DeleteIts okay friend, I have trouble reading sentences too. I have a condition where I am unable to see the second line of every paragraph and am thus unable to properly see arguments and apply logic. I a medical specialist trained in diagnosing and treating this phenomenon. You appear to have a very advanced case of this syndrome as you appear to unable to be skipping 2 or 3 paragraphs per sentence. I believe it is safe to assume that you do not know an elementary level of English and find proper argumentative structure confusing and thus paragraphs become invisible due to your subconscious blocking tough, hard to read small words and their larger cousins. There is very little hope for treatment but is recommended that you read every single sentence and attempt dislodging the many crayons in your Telencephalon. If you had to look up the previous word you should not attempt removal of the crayons without express consent from your physician.
see, I felt this article was just a series of nitpicking. the entire thing is supposed to be a parody, spoof, what have you, of other people who make more than enough money to do what they want, and yet, still choose to go the kickstarter route. Penny Arcade, for example.
ReplyDeleteI for one, actually enjoyed this video. it's one that actually succeeded in making me laugh. and not at him, either.
it's a shame, really. Bores has dug himself such a big hole in your eyes, that when he actually does something decent, you still ridicule him like he threw a puppy in the street.
give it a rest, guys. it's been, what, three years? does this guy really deserve to be hated this much for this long?
before I get the eventual "you're an irate fanboy" comment, I'd like to point out something: I hate his game reviews. they're misinformative, and the jokes seem to fall flat.
but we've seem to reach that point where we're just picking on the guy because, hey. it's fun.
not every video is a horrid piece of shit that needs to be analyzed. and its disappointing that you think otherwise.
It's 'decent' to make a video that is just mean spirited? I know you don't want to sound like an Irate Gamer fanboy and to be honest you don't, but a decent parody is supposed to poke fun at the message and prove a point. It is not parody to do everything the other person did except exaggerate the motions. That's simply being a jerk.
DeleteIt's like recent family guy episodes it just has the peter yelling out "STARLIGHT EXPRESS" giggling and running past the screen. Irate gamer's parody is an absolute failure because it doesn't point out anything funny. It exaggerates AVGN's role in the scam and worst of all it won't age well at all. This is the Parody equivalent of 'Disaster movie' or 'Vampire's suck'.
Seriously if you didn't know AVGN's involvement, would you find the video funny? It'd just look like some guy trying to be asshole on Kickstarter. Besides if he wanted to be funny he should have made prizes for donating be much much more funny.
Hell its a bad sign when Penny arcade's kickstarter comic that takes 3 seconds to read is a better parody and yet manages to not be mean-spirited. Hmmm bad sign, well maybe its a good sign given that the people on penny arcade are actually good at their jobs.
In short: Satire is laughter with knifes, not knifes with blood spilling all over them. Irony and higher degrees of similarity (I mean, really? the video acts as if AVGN made the kickstarter) would go a long way to making the video a true parody
You seem upset.
ReplyDeleteI'm on the fence about this.
ReplyDeleteAlthough Chris Bores has no right to mock Jame's e-begging, he still makes a valid point (like the Archfiend and numerous other youtubers have made).
I really don't have respect for Mike Matei anymore. And honestly, if I had to choose between him and Bores, I'd choose Bores.
i dont know if i should mention this but i did a bit of resarch on Greg Pabich (the guy who was responsible for the kickstarter)and found out that he was found guilty of fraud (type in Pabich vs Kellar to see what a mean) there is also a video out where Pabich flat out admits this prodject is all about the money (the video is titled ConBravo! 2012 Cheetahmen Booth Overview: Interview With Greg Pabich Part 2) this guy is not a poor man he is very rich (more rich then James and Chris combined) so wouldnt that make him the bad guy in all of this? i dunno but whatever the case the kickstarter so far has rised over $71,556 dollers so it looks like Pabich will be alot richer by the minutie.
ReplyDeleteHoly bejeezus...
DeleteI wonder if James knows about this situation-- the one of Pabich v. Kellar. I think he might be shocked.
BTW, I can't believe people STILL think James is e-begging. Just look at these latest comments on the "spoof"...
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_BoXvC6cnMc
Well of course they're gonna think that James is still e-begging. This is about the only site where you get proper information on what Jame's endorsement means (and what kickstarter is).
DeleteIt's a matter of simple first impression. If you tell someone about something they know nothing about, they'll have to assume that the first thing told to them is the truth. More likely they'll try to confirm it but there are alot more "hate AVGN for kickstarter" videos and websites then there are neutral arguments that can be summarized as "AVGN did screw up, but none of the money is going to him so its clearly not his fault, its Greg's".
At this point, AVGN should really go kick Greg's ass. I've never seen a person sabotage another man's reputation so badly.
Ah... I see what you've done there. I guess I was just pissed off all too much from that e-drama that shouldn't have happened to begin with.
DeleteYou're right-- at least we have sites like this blog to tell the people "Sure, James made a mistake, but none of the money's going to him or Pat the NES Punk, so don't hate on them."
On a side note, Ashleigh Ball of MLP: FIM fame and her band, Hey Ocean!, also did a Kickstarter to raise enough money for a world tour outside of their native Canada. But guess what? It was all love and praise for them (and rightfully so, as I do enjoy their music), as opposed to the (wrongful) hatred James was receiving. (Like you said, if anything, it's GREG who the people should be mad at, not James. Or Pat, even.) Yeah, I know, it's kinda stupid to compare Kickstarters for a worldwide concert tour and a less-buggy video game, but hey, I'm just a fan of both guys. :-)
Technically though, the world tour Kickstarter is an example of kickstarter gone right. If you decide to donate you are getting something unique and memorable. That is an example of a kickstarter done right.
DeleteGreg's kickstarter.... takes zero effort to create. IN FACT the project is already completed, there exists patched roms of Cheetahmen 2 and reproduction carts with said patch have already been made. Unless Greg is gonna really spice up the gameplay, its not gonna be unique or memorable(not including flame wars).
So there really is nothing stupid about comparing the two; in fact its a good comparison about what went wrong. All investors have to choose a project they wish to contribute base only on the praise and available information. James, a guy who generally doesn't fuck up and knows what he's saying, could be a very strong contributing factor.
Of course this whole flame war is both a good thing and a bad thing. While James will get flak for being the poster child of an obvious scam, all the negative press is certain to ensure Greg doesn't get much if anything out this. When the scam fails, all sorts of excuses could be made and the incident will just fade away. In fact I believe its quite similar to Irate gamer's deal dash scam. Hate will last for short while, but once things get rolling again, people will find other things to complain about.
Thanks for more info! As you can probably tell, outside of it not being the same as e-begging, and getting something cool depending on how much money you donate, I know NOTHING about how Kickstarter works.
DeleteActually doesn't he get money from 3 sources
