I'm sorry. I'm so very very sorry for being late with this. I do not have a good excuse, I've just been lazy.
Summer is almost over. The Irate Gamer has not returned. Chris has lied to us.
Instead, he's been dumping out more Puppet Steve garbage, and something else entirely.
Turns out Chris was serious about starting a podcast, and he's been releasing episodes of it. In fact, there's 3 out now.
The podcast goes by the title "Geek Time: The Next Generation". It's called that because there was once a podcast called Geek Time that Chris loved. Apparently, all traces of it vanished from the internet. Except for the theme song I guess, I don't know anything about this podcast and research into it has brought up nothing.
I mention the theme song because the first podcast opens with this awful "tribute to geekdom". With stereotypical lines about pocket protectors, speaking Klingon, never touching a girl. I'm guessing it's an old song because one line is about having an Iron Man mask, which in 2019 isn't considered "geeky" anymore as Iron Man is insanely popular.
Chris isn't working alone. He has a co-host! Wow, only took 12 years to figure it out.
He's joined by his friend Tim Walker, who previous appeared in his I Rate the 80s video on TMNT Cereal, taking part in the sketch where he steals the cereal from him. Because that's... comedy?
So yeah, I tried listening to this. Honestly, I only got 30 minutes into the first episode. It was dull. Chris and Tim have no charisma. I mean, we've well-established that Chris has no charisma. But even working off someone else, he's still as dull as dirt.
I tried to do a detailed recap, but I got bored, I couldn't stand listening to these two. I'm sorry. You'd think after 10 years of doing this I would be better about it. By the way that's my acknowledgement of this blog being 10 years old. *fweet*
The reason Chris started this is that other "geeky" podcasts weren't doing what he wanted. He brings up Kevin Smith's Fatman on Batman (now Fatman Beyond) and he got annoyed that Smith would bring up his weight loss instead of geeky topics. Oh boo hoo, how dare Kevin Smith talk about something that saved his life. You sound like a brat complaining about that.
The main subject of the first episode was San Diego Comic Con. ... One month after it happened. Still just as slow on the uptake as usual.
It was just them talking about the announcements. Believing Shang Chi is a bad idea, that Thor Ragnarok is not actually that good (including a false claim that they spent 20 minutes talking about the Devil's Anus). ... That's about where I checked out. From what my readers and informant have told me, the rest wasn't much better.
At one point, Chris complains about the upcoming Watchmen TV series, in how it portrays White Supremacists as the bad guys even though "white people are your audience". *breathes* Okay. If your reaction to murderous White Supremacists being portrayed in a negative light is "but white people" then perhaps you're harboring same MAJOR racist ideology. Not to mention it's no longer the 90s, comic book adaptations have a HUGE audience of all kinds of people. Why do you think Black Panther and Captain Marvel did so well? Why do you think Marvel is even making a Shang Chi movie? Businesses have realized that "white men aren't the only audience". Not to mention, White Supremacists have been villains for the longest time. Why are you so offended now? But what should I expect from an out of touch, sheltered Ohio white boy that's high on Alex Jones fumes and neck-deep in the Trump Kool-Aid. I wouldn't be surprised if we start seeing Chris do videos with clickbait titles about "DUH SJW MENACE" and "FEMINISTS RUINING MUH STAR WARS". That kind of garbage.
Second episode doesn't sound much better. This time around D23 announcements. Whole lot of Marvel, talking about the 80s. Bleh...
Third episode is about the end of the Spider-Man partnership between Disney and Sony. Meh... Chris just seems to have trouble keeping up with current events. The description for it mentions Smash Bros. Probably Chris pretending he cares about Banjo-Kazooie and King of Fighters, even though he has never shown any interest in those games in his many many videos.
Overall... this isn't the worst thing Chris has made. It's just very very bland. If you've ever seen RedLetterMedia's "Nerd Crew" series, it's pretty much like that. Give it time and Chris & Tim will start shilling Blue Apron and NordVPN and whatever online business that usually uses podcasts to advertise. I'd say he would shill LootCrate, but they're going under hahahahahahaha! ... Sorry to those that lost their job at LootCrate.
Perhaps if I'm feeling up to it, I'll try to do a recap on the fourth episode, if it's made. No guarantees.

You might note that RedLetterMedia's "Nerd Crew" is parodic of vapid fanboy podcasts, not merely an example of them. RLM is doing some of the most entertaining work work on YouTube, and it's rather obscene that Chris uses a sound bite of RLM's Jay Bauman to "spice up" his podcast.
ReplyDeleteYou're right. Nerd Crew is more a parody of those terrible podcasts, like Collider or Screen Junkies. I brought them up since Chris' podcast is just the type of thing RLM is making fun of.
DeleteI knew they were using soundbites like a crappy radio show, didn't know Jay was part of that. That is just wrong.
Actually STAR WARS is dying, and we aren't just talking movies here (look at the toys), and CAPTAIN MARVEL underperformed.
ReplyDeleteFor someone wanting to keep politics out of the mix here, you really want to help prop up a certain faction.
Captain Marvel under performed? Really? 1.1 billion dollars worldwide is under performing now? Oh dearie me, Brie Larson really got under a bunch of fragile man-babies' skin, didn't she? It's OK pookie, Joker will be out in a few weeks and you can jerk yourself silly while moaning "WE live in a society!!!" all you like...that'll make it ALL better. Those mean ole SJW's won't steal any more of your pwecious comics or movies.
DeleteO RLY?
DeleteMy sources
Larson has the acting skills of a brick wall. The only reason critics liked it was for the sake of diversity points and that sweet, sweet Mouse money.
Nobody gives a SHIT what kind of reproductive system a character has. What matters is if they are likable.
*My sources say different
DeleteI agree with Star Wars dying, but that's more due to terrible writing than any politics.
DeleteNothing wrong with Captain Marvel in my view though. Brie Larson was fine.
Chris Bores? Podcasts? Cripes. Might be because they seem "easier" than editing videos. Just talk into a mic for like an hour-and-a-half and boom--easy money. That's how that works, right?
ReplyDeleteKind of stoked about this Shang Chi movie. Looks like it'll be a bit different than these supposed A-listers like Iron Man and Hulk. Endgame was *SPOILERS!* friggin' bananas about its contents. Can't say for certain, but I'm looking forward to what the future holds.
Finally listened to episode 3 of Geek Time TNG. Surprised Chris let Tim rant for so long. I don't want to get into a long analysis but a couple of points...
ReplyDeleteChris and Tim are apparently puzzled about Terry Bogard in Smash. Chris stated that he feels SMash should have characters that are recognizable for gamers of all ages - like the chef from BurgerTime. He is probably unaware that Terry has appeared on SNES, Virtual Console and Switch several times. Tim also seems to think that Sony owns the rights to Crash Bandicoot despite the character appearing on Nintendo and Xbox systems for ages.
And they managed to bring up Count Chocula and the cereal monsters - this time in regards to Funko POP figures.
Seriously? He actually wants the guy from BurgerTime over legit iconic characters like Terry Bogard?
DeleteI had to look up the chef's name (Peter Pepper), that's how "iconic" he really is.
And really, gamers of all ages? Oh yeah, characters from family friendly franchises like Metal Gear Solid, Bayonetta, Persona, which are all *checks notes* Rated M. Huh, how about that.
All Sony owns is the first three games, CTR and Crash Bash. They never actually owned the character of Crash Bandicoot. That was Universal Interactive. And then many mergers and buyouts later, it's in the hands of Activision.
OT: What does everyone think of GameStop's last ditch hail mary to save the company by transforming the design of all their stores to have games and merchandise but also have TV's with retro consoles like N64 and Gamecube set up in the back as well as tables for board games like D&D? In other words, replicating a comic book store.
ReplyDeleteI think it will have the same fate as most comic book shops. That layout depends on people wanting to spend 2 or 3 hours at a time there. Hard to do when the staff is hawking crap and club memberships.
DeleteOh, and today is officially the first day of Autumn. To nobody's surprise, Chris flaked on the return of IG.
ReplyDeleteWhen Bores announced the return of Irate Gamer, I predicted zero episodes, him making an excuse about being busy with his family, while making a metric shit-ton of Pubba Steve videos.
DeleteWhile he didn't make any excuses about being busy with his family, there were no Irate Gamer episodes, and he made about 100 Pubba Steve videos in the last three months.
Apparently even making a lame excuse was too much for him.
DeleteBores latest post:
ReplyDelete=== Just caught Ghost Hunters newest episode. I swear I about want to bash my head through a wall everytime I watch this show now. Its compelling me to do a 50 minute rant on this show. ===
Wonder what he'd think about this show:
Deletehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uZ__tmP6N1Q
It's basically a straight knock-off of Ghost Hunters that appeared on a local public access channel where I lived in Central Florida. Funny enough, their only sponsor was a bail bonds company.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fy2MmP6GTbQ This video's better.
DeleteDamn. Here I was trying to make a podcast, hoping that boring man didn't do one. Also he's a fucking moron for that white supremacist thing.
ReplyDeleteA strange new trend on Puppet Steve seems to be fake cameos from other YouTubers. His newest video teases "The Hobby Kids," from a channel called "Hobby Kids Adventures," appearing in the video. Seconds into the video he misidentifies them as the "Adventure Kids," and then the cameo is absurd fakery with a still photo and Bores' voice.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait for him to do a crossover with Ryan ToysReview! That would be fucking hilarious!
ReplyDeleteGuess he lives up to the name "Boring Man"!
ReplyDelete-_-
This is off topic but I just came up with a potential reason why Chris has issues with women as depicted in the other post. I'm not making this about all women but a lot of women (especially black women like the one he supposedly attacked) are likely to have opposing views to Chris. I think Chris has issues with people with opposing views knowing how much of an Alex Jones fan he is.

ReplyDelete:P
Boring Man and LadyBuggin's hero versus not-Thanos.
Jurassic Park: Trespasser (PC) - Angry Video Game Nerd (AVGN)
ReplyDeleteand it's a load of ass
DeleteI mean first of all, why has he been reviewing nothing but shitty-ass mid-to-late 90s CD ROM games nobody even remembers because more than likely they were collecting dust in the Walmart electronics section? Second, the video's too long. It was incredibly padded out. Third, the jokes in this video were TERRIBLE. I know James doesn't write his own scripts anymore, but good lord. Doesn't he get to review these shitty scripts before they're released?
DeleteHe's already covered all the notoriously bad games for the NES, and widely branched out into other consoles. I don't know his criteria for picking a review game, but when you've done the "obvious" ones, which are also ones he grew up with, the whole process is going to be different.
DeleteNot really. He reserves most NES/SNES games for James & Mike Mondays now.
DeleteThe only terrible joke was the feces one and the Hell's Kitchen parody that followed it. Other than that, it was an alright episode. Still not as bad as the Black Tiger one. The ending made me laugh.
ReplyDeleteThe jokes making references to the movie just fell flat.
DeleteI still think the Nerd needs to be laid to rest. Has he truly exhausted all the crap from the Atari era to the N64? He's still better than Boring Man in the knowing-what-he's-doing department, but GEEZ! Some of the recent jokes fall flatter than a pancake! I would ask if you would think that the quacks writing for the show now had FAMILY GUY on their resumes, but I have yet to see any Christophobic diatribes or Eighties porn (not meaning porn films from the Eighties, but an overabundance of references to the era's culture).
ReplyDeleteI think the problem is that James Rolfe obviously looks like he doesn't enjoy AVGN anymore but can't stop it due to the popularity it still has to this day. James is going to turn 40 soon and he's married with kids so it might look sad when he's 45 and using the same language he did in his 20's. Especially if he still drinks.
DeleteI agree AVGN should be retired. He had a good run but all good things must come to an end. Even the best TV shows got stale after a while and needed to be put to rest. It's like the Simpsons. I still watch out of habit, and they still have some good episodes, but I think should have been ended quite a few seasons ago.
DeleteAVGN is becoming stake. That hells kitchen joke came out of nowhere. If he was reviewing a cooking video game it would have been better. The people writing his stuff suck. I believe it's the people from his rental review show
DeleteYou either end in your prime, or you live long enough to fall into seasonal rot.
DeleteThat's why Bill Watterson strategically decided to end Calvin & Hobbes after 10 years at the height of its popularity. He knew had he continued on it would have just been watered down like many comics (e.g. Garfield).
DeleteWow... I didn't think that Bores might harbor sympathy for white supremacists, but honestly, given how much further he's going off the deep end with each passing year, it's not much of a surprise.
