The last month or so Chris has been going on and on about his next review. Making a big deal over the trailer for it.
So, what has this been leading to? A review of Dick Tracy on NES, that is also a crossover with the Angry Video Game Nerd.
I gotta say... James I have lost some respect for you. Debasing yourself to this? I know YouTube is utter shit now, but to give this idiot the time of day? Not to mention, it's a game he already reviewed. I know he's done re-reviews in the past, but this just seems pointless.
I don't think this makes them "friends", which a whole lot of his "fans" have been screaming at critics. "YOU CAN'T MAKE FUN OF IRATE GAMER! HE'S FRIENDS WITH AVGN NOW!"
If you think that's going to stop people, then clearly you're not paying attention. There is FAR FAR more to Irate Gamer than just his plagiarism.
He can't act, he's not funny, he has no charm, no wit, he barely knows anything about the games he's talking about, he cheats constantly, he false-flagged several videos that were critical of him and never apologized for it, and frankly I don't see how you can respect him when he doesn't respect you. He never tells you about his retirements until it's too late, he goes months and months without any updates, and he pretends that he doesn't work on Puppet Steve rather than Irate Gamer. Find someone that actually respects you. Not some washed up idiot gasping for the last bit of 2008 era fame.
Also, dude's nuts. Did you see that Ghost Doctor shit? He is not a well-adjusted person. He needs to be called out for spewing garbage.
Also, this trailer was garbage for something so "epic". Edited Marvel Cinematic Universe footage with old Irate Gamer footage following it.
It's set to come out "Summer" so... we'll see.
Seriously James, why? I know Nostalgia Critic is garbage now, but this is not the right direction. Especially when he threw you under the bus with that Opening Up video.

ReplyDeleteI used to comment here, I think i was called, "Irish anon" or something like that, I have no idea why, im the least patriotic person you could ever meet, just couldnt think of a name. Anyway, i think I got badly involved in the bores hate, around 10 years or so ago " grrr hes a rip off, his jokes arent funny, hes getting facts wrong about all these precious games, hes bad at the games" all those things. I got so mad and caught up in it all. Then one day something just clicked in me how much importance i was putting on these videos, i was actually getting annoyed at something so insignificant, and every single comment chris bores ever made was dissected, every single thing on facebook, people were discussing his personal life, analysing everything, things he believed in, his views on movies, tv shows, his relationships, everything was being talked about and discussed, all for a guy I didnt even know. Was all this justified? I liked AVGN, but was the irate gamer saying " shit load of fuck" really the worst thing a man could possibly have done, did the man deserve to have his entire character dissected because he said that he didnt like "zombies ate my neighbours". People were trying to work out whether he was bullied in school, and talking about how happy the were that his girlfriend at the time broke up with him, is this really the kind of person i want to be, to be ok with someone getting their whole life put under a microscope because ... he released bad videos? Then i started thinking about his videos, and all the other things going on in my life at the time, why am i taking this so serious... this goofy shit, and i realised thats all it is, goofy shit from an obviously goofy guy who enjoys corny humour.I watched some of his videos and laughed, I was getting this mad over these daft things? So i messaged him, I felt bad about how much id put into disliking the guy, and he was super cool about it. I think ive grown a lot since then, and i think looking back I am quite fond of his videos, not because they are masterpeices, far from it, but they are silly, fun throwbacks, and i can think of how far ive come when I look back at a time were these daft videos were such a source of my contempt.
ReplyDeleteI looked back here some times, and I was extremely embarassed that even though Chris wasnt making videos any more, people are still here analysing everything the man does, I found it quite worrying that people could obsess so much over one man who made silly internet videos when theres so much else going on in the world. I was happy to see chris' video for new videos, and it seems like he has matured himself, he has a family, he seems to be in a good place as far as I can tell, and hes making a few more videos because he obviously enjoyed it back in the day. Also delighted to see he and James put any issues from the past behind them as well, I hope they have great fun making a video together, I actually am really looking forward to see it. I also hope people here can maybe grow a bit themselves, and stop over analysing every instance of this mans life. Let the man make his goofy videos, let him believe in ghosts if he wants, dont put so much importance on every thing this one man says and does, hes a man who makes videos were he teams up with a skeleton and a cartoon character to fight a robot in a power rangers battle. And he enjoys doing it. I think there are worse people in the world that we could be spending our time worrying about. If you want to keep putting so much into making this one person out to be the worst thing in the world, you do you, but I dunno, try and put things into perspective if you can, and see if you still feel as strongly? Is it all worth holding onto so much hatred when everyone has grown and moved on? You do you, but at this pointing, the people who are holding onto such anger are the people who look bad.

DeleteThanks, I realised how unreasonable I was being back when irate gamer was still making videos, its kind of worrying seeing how many people are still get angry at him even when he hasnt done it for years, just looking through some of the stuff here, why watch his paranormal videos, when its clearly not intended for you, or analyse every single thing about videos hes made for kids? Can you not just watch something you like instead? Going through his facebook page, and over analysing every aspect of the mans life is what i find really worrying though. I imagine that happening to people I know and it makes me sad. I see people are already trying to send James stuff to proof how much of a horrible scumbag Chris is. People who do this probably wanna go to subway to let the staff know " This man once told people the sega genesis was made to compete with the super nintendo, and if you look at this chart i made of all his facebook comments in 2017, he clearly hates all women, this MONSTER does not deserve your south west sauce". I dunno, hopefully the avgn irate gamer collaboration will at least make some people realise how silly the whole thing was. I enjoyed watching how much he seemed to enjoy making the recent ghostbusters episode, I like that he was able to make light of all the stuff that went down with him on youtube years ago. hope him and james had good fun on the dick tracy one, i look forward to some video game sillyness.

DeleteI remember when I did post here and was extra angry at bores, i tried to make a blog about "Navigatr" videos. Oh lord, Embarrassing. I wrote like 2 things on it and gave up haha. And as you can tell, writing isnt my strong point.

Thats kind of the same relevance this blog has these days though, and really, do think over analysing every aspect of a mans life beyond simple videos you didnt like is taking things too far.
Anyway I have other commitments and stuff to do, id rather focus on people important to me, and things i enjoy, so i wont be posting here too much, just hopefully people can reflect a bit, and move on from all the anger. If you take a step back and look at how silly the whole thing was, maybe you can get some enjoyment out of videos you didnt use to like also, like I did, who knows.

There's nothing wrong with someone being fat. The whole skinny and muscular superiority has to end.
DeleteBeing fat is very unhealthy. While there are some who have a hard time dealing with weight issues, such as it being genetic, most of the time it's due to the person not taking care of themselves.
DeleteJames is fairly thin honestly, at least compared to the Screenwave guys and it seems like he does what he can to take care of himself, which is good for himself and his family.
The Screenwave guys need to lose some weight, otherwise they could face some serious health problems later if they don't already. It would be good if they all had a goal of losing at least 15 lbs. to start with, and then have other goals that are fairly reasonable. While I may not be too fond of the Screenwave guys due to their sudden appearance on Cinemassacre videos, it would be good if they took better care of themselves as I have a hard feeling that all of them are overweight because of genetics. Maybe one of them has a genetic reason for them being overweight, but not all of them.
BatDan, I say this as a former reader of this blog (I was zonic94 on here between 2009 and early 2011), but you seriously need to move on to more worthwhile ventures than cataloging everything Bores does in 2020.

Honestly, you should have left this blog dead when you initially "quit" in 2010 after Busy Street did those exposés on you. It's done nothing but sour whatever internet legacy you could have made for yourself. And to have kept it up for this long with the same level of obsession and thinly-veiled vitriol is honestly a pathetic sight to behold.
I doubt you'll listen to a word I say and your current readership will hound on me for dropping a line like this after so many years. But as someone who used to read your posts avidly when the blog was still young, it had to be said.
It's time to move on. Focus that criticism of Bores' work into a review show of your own that is more insightful and worthy of retro video games. Honestly, anything is better than continuing this delusion that Irate Gamer is still as relevant now as he was in 2007.

Ok, so lets say Bill and George both go to a cake baking class. They think their friend John makes the best cakes in class. One day this guy called Fred shows up, he makes cakes, and people say they are just as delicious as Johns, but Bill and George try it, they find it disgusting. " Why the hell does everyone like this rotten cake so much?" they think, and they decide to make a group chat, and see if anyone agrees with their stance. Thats fair enough I guess.

ReplyDeleteI’ve been following this blog for a LONG while, ever since its early days in 2009. I was 10 at the time (I’m 21 now), and I remember enjoying The Irate Gamer at that point. This blog really turned me around on that. I’ve followed this through so much, channels rising and falling, the world changing ever around us, etc.
ReplyDeleteBut now... I honestly think it’s time to throw in the towel on this blog. If James Rolfe and Chris Bores have actually, finally, made up and are now on good terms I really don’t see any point in fighting this any longer. Rolfe was essentially the last major person Bores hadn't made amends with yet, and now he has. There’s nothing left at stake, Rolfe’s legacy is secure, Bores is an amusing footnote in internet history. Even Mike Matei’s friendly with him now.
And what else is there left to say? Most of the problems he has now have been problems since the beginning, and it’s not like his newer material is any more interesting than his older work (in fact, quite the opposite). It’s pretty clear you’ve struggled with trying to recap or “take down” his content, not because it’s any better but there’s just not much to say.
At this point, the best thing to do would be to wait for this AVGN crossover video to come out, recap it as usual, and finally end this blog right there. It’d be the best send off a place like this could get, and going on any further would be just... sad (and it’s pretty sad to begin with)

And I got to say, I got to agree with everyone else when I say that Batdan REALLY needs to move on from this blog. It had it's place in like what, 2009, 2010 or so. But it's really time to move on. And I really do think this is turning into a very unhealthy obsession.
ReplyDeleteI skimmed through a few of the pages on this blog, and I'm seeing things like going after Chris for things he posts on social media and other things he starts doing in his personal life. Or counting all the times that he has retired and changed his format over the years. It's really just sad what has become of this blog.
Also, really telling that, out of all things, THIS is what makes you lose respect for James Rolfe? Not that I've really have been seeing James in that much of a positive light myself in recent years, but that is such as petty thing to lose somebody's respect over. There's many issues that I have with James, but him working with Chris Bores is not one of them. In fact, I think it's a good thing that both James and Chris were willing to settle their differences that they had before, and work together on a crossover. Even if I haven't watched both in a while, I'm interested in seeing how this turns out.
I know you're probably not going to listen to a single word I say, and I'm not saying this as a means of attacking. I have no ill will towards Batdan, but I can't picture this being good for your mental health. This blog had it's place when Bores was still ripping off AVGN, and when he would false flag videos that was critical of him. But he's owned up to a lot of his mistakes, and now he's been differentiating himself from what AVGN does.
He's got a point, Dan. So does Harryhenry.

DeleteIn terms of doing game reviews, that I haven't done in years. Mostly, that was because I lost a lot of the drive that I had (which was already wearing away around 2012 or so), and without going into detail on my personal life, I was going through a bit of depression.
DeleteDoing game reviews again is one of the things I wanted to get back into, though if I were to do that, I might end up rebooting the series. Right now, I'm starting to do let's plays, and started doing Let's Plays on Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door.

Delete1. I'm kind of curious as to the mentions of why some posters on here lost respect for James. Not to say his recent videos aren't above criticism, but the level of anger I get from some of the comments you'd think he's done something akin to Mike McChaud or Doug Walker (depending on which you believe shares the most blame).
ReplyDeleteOr like the subject of the blog who I figured merited rage for reasons beyond his product quality (i.e. willing to have misleading moments in his reviews*, using say copyrighted footage in his DVDS unlike those who edited them out in their own releases, his comment about Jewwario's death prior to us learning of his own guilt**, the claims of plagiarism*** and painting good games either flawed/hard as being up there with the actual bad games**** and trying too hard to come off as a gamer*****).
Again, I can see why and respect that his more recent works are going to get critique, but unless there's some proof of say James doing something morally shady******, I'm just getting some dis-appropriate retribution towards him.
So unless it has to do with him still willing to work with Channel Awesome (at least the most recent I recall is his appearance in the review for the Justice League movie), I'm not seeing why the comments come off as intense as they do if the only offending point is the quality of his last few years of episodes.
2. As far as the blog goes, yeah I could get behind the idea that not everything Bores says or does, but I don't think an occasional posting would hurt if there's more than just say a singular Puppet Steve or IG episode.
But I don't think that means he needs to quit the blog altogether. Just maybe saving a thread for something big or even an end of the year thing.
Not to say I agree with Batdan on everything. As I mentioned in a comment of the Ghostbusters thread I find it odd that BD thinks that NES games barring RPGs lack any enjoyment. Obviously the gameplay is the draw of this console, but as I mentioned then, I think that SMB 2 and 3, plus Mega Man 2 (both out in Japan around the same time as the GB games) or even the MM series as a whole have decent endings by NES standards. Nothing epic, but easily a step up compared to say Ghostbusters, Karate Kid or even the first SMB (not bad as a game mind you).

Maybe it's a different matter from if there was an actual handheld made to put old Atari carts in, but there was a DS and Mobile compilation of Atari games******* and I didn't see any problem with the screen quality.
But then I only played an actual through an Atari 2600 hundred once as a kid, so maybe that's why I don't understand the issue with a handheld version.

***To be perfectly honest, I've been more in the middle on this particular matter. I do think some of the allegations reek of the reviewer dibs and him being the more popular of the angry reviewers following James.
Though if there is any area I'd make a case for, yeah hard not to agree with his BTTF and TMNT 1 review. Given how James didn't go indepth on either game until his revisit and how Bores wasn't shy on using other's footage or cheats, the latter could have easily avoided the appearance of plagiarism by covering the areas that the former didn't at the time.
And on the topic of not fully agreeing with other IG critics, even if I can't argue that his work is good, I don't know. I tend to find them entertainingly bad. Maybe it's why I'm not opposed to the more recent Nerd episodes (though I will say that my enjoyability doesn't extend to the Life of Black Tiger review).
****Obviously not unethical, but critique worthy especially he seemed to act like all games with challenge were bad even if hard for the right reason or that NES games were bad because they didn't measure up graphics wise to later consoles.
*****Again, not an unethical thing. Though I might argue that reviewing games from an outsider perspective might have helped in lessening accusations of copying James compared to his character being a big video game fan (unless he is or was an actual gamer himself).
******Last I recall, many commenters who didn't dislike James seemed to be fine with the Kickstarter for his film and was pretty forgiving for the Cheetahman 2 issue.

Dan isn't obsessed with Bores, he's just providing us with the content we enjoy, just like a content creator does. In fact Dan did try to quit once, but we all begged him to keep going. Dan critiques the irate gamer like James critiques shitty games. Sure, Dan does not have near as big of a fanbase, but I see no issue with keeping some of us entertained.
Dan - if you're reading this, I've always enjoyed what you've written, and you should look into being a content creator on YouTube. Whether it's game reviews or whatever.

Mike posted pics of his junk on some official forum, one of his guys had made threats to people who make u threatening criticisms, one of them was friends with and made videos with a guy who is now in prison for pedophilia and he made comments wondering how he is doing and hopes to see him when he gets out. These are just a few of the things of the top of my head. ReplyDeleteThe solution to making these "worlds collide" (Chris' exact words) was simply the off screen police chief getting AVGN to help Chris beat Dick Tracy. Then the two of them race to see who beats the game first. James is mostly offscreen for what is still just an Irate Gamer episode.
There is some "Irate the 80's" level research about the Dick Tracy hype back in the day. I never paid much attention to the film or toys so I have no idea if there were any research errors and I can't be arsed enough to go check.
Chris does give a somewhat more energetic performance. There are some jokes that break the fourth wall including a couple of shots at Nostalgia Critic and a spoof of the "Irate Gamer copies AVGN" meme.
If anything, the pacing of this episode would have been smoother without James. He does not provide any quality to the actual game review and this crossover is certainly not t-shirt worthy.
"A couple shots at the Nostalgia Critic" - yeah, an unfunny hack like Chris is in no position to take shots at someone who was very funny for quite a long time. Chris has NEVER been funny, so he needs to shut the fuck up.

ReplyDeleteOkay so watching the review a second time I've noticed some heavy Game Genie use in the review. There are several instances of Chris running into cars on the street and not taking damage (look at the 21 minute mark for example).

Yes, we dont know what has happen behind the scenes, for all we know maybe Bores and James finally have a reached to an agreement, which that in itself is perfectly fine, but one would think these things from the past should be bring on as well?, but let’s not kid ourselves, we all know who really is behind all of this.

The guys who have taken over Cinemassacre and turned James Rolfe into their spokeperson, and they were the results of those god awful post 2015 Avgn episodes, many of which seemed to be no longer written by James or even Mike themselves, but by either Ryan or Justin Silverman, and they show (why would james ever cared about Kingdom Hearts, or trash up Majora’s Mask?) or even make a normie pander video trashing bluray?
Try to endure, ANY video that has the screenwave people on it or behind its production and you can tell, this arent really James videos anymore, this are Ryan’s and Silverman, they are the ones running Cinemassacre into the ground, why is that, because they are infiltrators, they infiltrate, they subvert, co-opt and then destroy.
Make no mistake.
What’s likely is that they are forcing James to do this for a paycheck and they have the last word to say, regarldess of what happened before.
Look, i wanna clarify, i wish no ill will towards James Rolfe in this regard, but what i want is him, to fight back, and take Cinemassacre back into his own hands, and get rid of the Screenwave Infiltrators, cause they are doing some shady shit behind his back too, like bending the kneee to Youtube’s draconian and censorious guideliness towards and against anyone who isnt in the far left, pander to normies and soyboys, shill heinous sponsorships in every video, and soon enough, forcing James to self censorship and stop swearing now, even going back and changing the title cards of the ’’You know whats bullshit’’ series as well of the original AVGN title cards, but on top it all, taking down old cinemassacre archival channles, like the formes ’Lost cinemassacre videos’’ and replacing older videos and making up excuses about it (muh alhgorythm guys, we are not censoring guys, really!)

ReplyDelete3.- Now into a personal note, and from a former follower of this blog, Dan let me tell you, i never got the chance to congratulate you back when i could about your attempt at finishing the blog due to an anniversary you had a few years ago regarding it, but i wanted to congratulate you even to this day for taking such a labor and dedication, which while some agitators might try to harrass you or deminish your persona, mostly tehy are doing it just to start trouble or make themselves felt better, but i wanna thank you for the years of read you gave us as a plattform for people to better inform themselves, i wanna thank you my friend.
Now, that being said.

I think you can now leav it to rest, unless maybe you wanna cover the crossover, for better or for worse, maybe more for the latter, it is the end of an era, i mightself would not bother support the viewership of such event, but i will gladly take a read to your input review on the matter.

ReplyDeleteWell, I just watched the crossover... and to be honest, it was nothing but "meh". I feel as if the Nerd was just kinda... there, like it was meant to be a skit and nothing more. And the jokes? ...Subpar; I barely laughed. So, all-in-all, it's just your typical Bores episode. Believe me when I say that Chris from the Noble House of Boring has done a whole lot worse; I couldn't really find anything to rage at. It was just... okay, if not subpar.

Hes just one guy, and he has a pretty good attitude towards things these days,despite there still being people who wont let things go and criticise every single thing he does in his life. I think if I had a blog of people this obsessed and determined to hate me I would struggle, so good on him for rising above it all.

I go through every single thing adam sandler posts on social media, analysing every thing, I find out everything I can about his life, i judge his relationships, his life choices, get people who claim they know him and try and find out information about him. I contact people who might want to work with him, and try and show them all the evidence i have that adam sandler is the worst man alive. Consumed in hatred i write Pages and pages and pages for 13 years, watching something i hate so much, following every single thing they do so I can inform everyone of my hatred. Not one thing can convince me he has any good qualities.

ReplyDeleteI will NEVER understand the sudden love for IG. He has NOT changed. He's still totally unfunny, can't take criticism, acts like a fucking child when you say ANYTHING critical about him, and is not enjoyable to watch in the slightest. Just because he's suddenly friends with James now does NOT change that.
And say what you want about Doug Walker, Chris has NEVER been better than him. Nor has Doug been a worse person than Chris. Doug may have been involved in some shady things, Doug has always had a much more likable personality than Chris. He has never false flagged videos, scammed people (unless I missed something), profited off a dead person, stolen footage from others, or treated his fans like shit. Chris is NOT a better person than Doug!! (as a side note, there is NOTHING wrong with liking classic Nostalgia Critic videos!)
What's next, is everyone going to start loving DSP? Is Derek Savage and Digital Homicide going to back and gain a bunch of fanboys? Is Jack Thompson going to come back and become an influential person in the game industry?
