No List This Year

Wow, the year is almost over. Where did the time go?
As the title said, there will not be a Year End List. I just feel there's not enough to talk about.

Like all his previous comebacks, this one ended in failure. He may have gotten a view boost from working with James Rolfe, but clearly people didn't stick around as his views cratered. Hard.
Following up the big crossover with a video on cereal was a massive mistake.

This year showed he still had no idea what to do. Following up a video on Godzilla vs Kong (his highest viewed video of the year) with a retread on Kool-Aid flavors just screams "I don't have much knowledge of anything. Please let me keep doing the same shit over and over".

It's been three months since he posted a video, and he has given zero indication that he's going to keep going. Other than a Facebook post about a "custom Arcade cabinet" that hasn't been followed up on. Maybe someone convinced him that this midlife crisis shit isn't worth the hundreds of dollars he's spending?

He's still doing Puppet Steve, and the views have cratered there too. Though a video he posted earlier this week managed to score a lot of views. A video on... Squid Game toys. Oh yeah, that very child-friendly Netflix phenomenon. The series that opens on a brutal game of Red Light Green Light where over 200 people are gunned down all for a chance to pay off their crippling debt. Fun for the whole family!

Yes I know that a lot of channels are talking Squid Game, and kids know about it through cultural osmosis, basically the same way as kids in the 80's and 90's knew about Jason Voorhees or Freddy Krueger or Rambo or Mortal Kombat, despite all of that not being appropriate.  Still though, if Chris is trying to make this a channel for kids, shouldn't he stick with stuff for kids?
And to those wondering if there are actual Squid Game toys? No. He bought them off Etsy, meaning they're fan-made. I doubt Squid Game would actually get toys as it would go against the show's scathing criticism of capitalism. ... *remembers The Lorax movie* Fuck...

Anywho, I think that's enough. Who knows if we'll even be back next year. Chris seems content just vanishing off the internet, hiding behind his puppets and his eBay store where he makes money off bootleg Letter People DVDs and CDs. While also lying about the toys he's selling as "Brand New" when they're clearly out of the box (and somehow more expensive than legitimate new toys).

Oh yeah, go see Spider-Man No Way Home. It is that good.

  1. Happy 2022 in a fortnight, everyone! Yeah, I had a hunch there wasn't going to be a list compared to last year...

BTW, haven't really watched a lot of Spider-Man movies, to be honest.

  2. I agree in a way that following up the crossover with those cereal videos was a fatal mistake and one that he never recovered from. I think in Chris' mind it was 2008 again after he did that video with James and that he was back on top and didn't have to try which was a mistake he made in his peak.

    Have a happy 2022 everybody!

  3. I'm just bringing this up since this is the latest blog post you made but could we get a forum discussing Irate Gamer and Chris Bores? Sometimes I think the discussions should be made. There are plenty of free build your own forums out there and honestly we don't need anything fancy just a place to actively make threads and topics.

    2. I really don't follow the guy nor have I met him in person. So if anything, my stance is neutral here. One thing I'm aware is though is that Marzgurl, amongst other people, apparently became hell-bent in destroying his career. Not sure what her motive in all this is.....

      Delete
    3. Yeah what could one motive be for not wanting a creep who sexual harasses people who is unrepentant of what he done to continue having a career that gives him access to more victims. It such a hard question but I am sure someone as smart as you will figure it out.

  6. Ever since Chris Bores was kicked out of Collingwood Arts Center it seems he's become really desperate on these haunted investigations. It seems to now border on fraud now. If you check on his previous ghost haunting investigations he hardly got a response but now he's getting a lot more on the Oliver House. Makes one wonder, is he becoming desperate to get this shit off the air and get someone to pay him for this shit? I'm beginning to think Chris' ghost hunting is becoming more fraudelent now.

  7. This year, people were accusing James Rolfe of being a plagiarist, and even claiming that it vindicates Bores.

    ReplyDelete

    1. People also thought James in a video of Chris' vindicated Chris but there is much more wrong with Bores besides plagiarism.

He relies way too much on humor even Seth MacFarlane wouldn't find funny (hell one of my friends who is a massive Family Guy fan didn't find Bores funny), he constantly gets information wrong to this day and never acknowledges it, and he tried to get a video that truth bombed his opening up video taken down as recently as 2018.

If Chris really wanted to be vindicated he should at least address his other most common criticisms as I don't think Bores is aware on how many fans he has cost his channel.

      Delete
    2. Which it doesn't. Same with how mocking JewWario's suicide, even if JewWario turned out to be a piece of shit, doesn't vindicate Bores.

  10. I think this should be a message for Chris' fans that read this blog or ones that want more Irate Gamer videos.

Chris only cared about video games when they gave him a shot at money and fame. I do believe he could have played a few NES games here and there growing up but he only took gaming seriously for fame.

Now that video games no longer give him views, he has admitted numerous times that he doesn't want to do them and he even admitted to selling off a lot of his game collection after he stopped in 2016.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Probably selling them to make a buck no doubt. There must have been troubling times.

      Delete
    2. same could be said about james. James has admitted he's not a gamer (beyond the small collection he had as a child). He's only doing the nerd for money (thus hiring slobwave).

      Delete
    3. Is James a casual gamer at least? I know James has always been more of a movie nerd than a gaming nerd, but he does at least play video games for fun right?

      Delete
    4. @Silent Spring He's still more of a gamer than Chris is. He can tell from what's good and what's bad and James only uses Game Genie as a last resort unlike Chris who uses it in almost every review.

I will admit though, post SNES James can come off as completely clueless, examples are spending the whole review bitching about Majora's Mask's 3 day system.

      Delete
    5. @PrinceMario

Yeah, I couldn't stand the Majora's Mask review. Most of that was just pure nitpicking. Especially when he whined about the bank (did anyone really have that much of an issue talking to the banker? I sure didn't).

      Delete
    6. James mentioned in the latest podcast he plays GTA V (but just to drive around the city), and he has vids of him playing mario maker.

In terms of gaming Chris and him are probably in the same league. Not really are either gamers.

and LOL believing James is playing any of those games he's reviewing (so your Game genie comment is void, but anything to defend James, right?). He hasn't played a game himself in years. The last ones might have been Earthbound and MM.

      Delete
    7. I'd argue James is more of a gamer than Chris. There are years worth of James & Mike Mondays which shows that James is quite skilled at retro games.

      Delete
    8. @EdgeXL Plus he's beaten Castlevania I and II, Ninja Gaiden II, Ghosts N Goblins, and can beat Contra with ease. he is definitely more skilled at NES games than Bores is.

Sounds like huge expactations, but no outcome for 2022, we heard that so much from bores, but he never talks about his projects, he's just padding out time like in his reviews.

  13. So! Thoughts on the situation with Lindsay Ellis? Yes what she said was shady but it makes me aggravated that she has to quit YouTube over this where other content creators have said worse and gotten away with it.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. A part of Lindsay is angry that some people will always think of her as the Nostalgia Chick, and even worse, they would prefer to watch the Nostalgia Chick videos over her current ones.

      Delete
    2. @Deepthroat Ghoul That Game Grumps incident with the Sonic Adventure Walkthrough was worse because Arin and Dan basically doxxed the person that made the walkthrough all because the guide wasn't holding their hand enough.

I'd also argue that Chris' JewWario comments were worse because the line where he says "the universe does not take kindly to ending your life before your destiny has run it's course" implies he thinks ALL people who take their own life their spirits will suffer in the afterlife (and Chris' defenders still don't get that). Also Chris has demonstrated he has not learned his lesson from past mistakes and could say the same thing again after another content creator does the same (though he said nothing about Apollo Legend because he'd have no clue who that was).

      Delete
    3. I don't think Lindsay was being racist when she made those comments about Raya and other stories that adopt the Avatar structure. If I say that the first Iron Man movie is basically The Mask am I being racist about Caucasians? Of course not.

What I disagree with is how Lindsay compared herself to a Trans woman who wrote a short story and was defiled for ages on social media. Lindsay was unaware of her privilege when she did that.

I can only imagine how much it sucks for the internet to gang up on you for several months and I can understand if Lindsay snapped. That wouldn't excuse what she did and Lindsay would definitely need to make an honest apology. But I think her brand is strong enough that she could return to YouTube if she wanted to.

I just wonder if Chris thinks the backlash against him was similar to what Lindsay experienced.

    5. I stopped watching Lindsay's work a while back, but I never thought the hate for her was this big.

      Delete
    6. @PrinceMario Lindsay should know there's no shame in accepting reality for what it is, even if it means admitting that she failed to achieve her dreams. But she just won't accept it. She makes Internet videos. That's her profession. That's who she is, and that's what she's good at. That's what got her famous in the first place.

Clearly, Lindsay has forgotten that she started 2008 as a nobody, and ended it as a celebrity when she became the Nostalgia Chick.

Bottom line, Lindsay will never be a real author for as long as she lives. No-one will finance another Lindsay Ellis book ever again, because she destroyed her reputation making those two shitty fanfics disguised as novels!

      Delete
  14. Ellis is being melodramatic. She reaped what she sowed. Saying her situation is worse than Britney Spears is laughable. She was never canceled, other than in her head.

    ReplyDelete
  15. @the notorious phantom. No, it's not. She truthfully "cancelled" herself twice. She's said far worst things on twitter than the raya comment, such as her Harriet Tubman comments, which were all but forgot after their initial tweet, but only remembered again because she brought it up herself in her mask off video. After those raya tweets she laid low, did mask off, then laid low again...and here we are. She says she doesn't read YT comments and has a SM manager moderate her page, so the biggest critics are probably on twitter. That's easy enough to remedy by not bothering to engage or tweet, but she's a self admitting addict. I bet she'll be back in 6 or so months.

  16. New FB-Post (he also added a pic):

"For all my ghost fans out there, I've been working on a few ghost projects lately that have caused me to update my ghost classifications list. I now have 7 classes instead of 6. In my book I addressed how hungry ghosts can manifest extreme levels of 'psychological hunger' and left it at that, but this mindset has come up so many times in recent investigating, it really needed to be its own class, Parasitical. Amazing how these things are often hidden in plain sight. I previously labelled these guys on my demon classification list and I've come to realize that some ghosts are one in the same. So here it is, the old and new ghost mindset flowcharts side by side for comparison. A big step forward in my ghost studies!"

If all of a sudden Chris has the mindset of "I have 900k subscribers I can post whenever I want" it shows Chris hasn't learned his lesson as it was a mistake he made on the Irate Gamer channel in 2013.

    1. on irate gamer it started much earlier, 2010/11, as the 7up and the robocop episode were 8 months apart. You can't do this to your channel with your main series, and yeah i dont count HOVG to his Irate Gamer Epsiodes.

    2. If Chris were smarter and adapted with YouTube's changing landscape instead of fighting against it he'd still be making a living off of Irate Gamer.

Chris refuses to use Patreon or channel memberships and only live streamed once. As a content creator myself, if you want to make a decent living in 2022 off of making videos you HAVE to find secondary sources of income. Making a living solely through ad revenue is no longer possible unless you're a ridiculously large channel.

    2. === The Sandusky Mall was the iconic shopping hub for locals who grew up in the 1970s and '80s. Kids visited the Circus World toy store, shopped for local amusement park souvenirs at Cedar Point Gifts, and fawned over the kittens and puppies at Petland. Teens scarfed Scotto's Pizza or a tasty treat at Baskin Robbins before taking in the latest feature at the Mall Cinema. Many others pumped quarters into the games at Goldmine or browsed the collection at Musicland.

Gathering more than 200 images, the original floor map, and the history of every store at every location, author Chris Bores delivers a trip down memory lane as well as never-before-told stories of the scandals and struggles--and the triumphs--that made the Sandusky Mall the place to be. ===

You can tell it's Bores -- "iconic", food references, and "scandals"

    3. "Iconic" and "scandals"... he keeps using those words. I do not think they mean what he thinks they mean.

    4. Since Chris reads this blog and the comments I have no clue who Chris is going to blame if the book gets bad attention, Dan for addressing it in a future post or me for bringing it up to everyone.

Since there isn't a free way to read it, if anyone is brave enough to buy the book you can inform us in this blog or inform me on my YouTube channel on problems with it. I don't want to give Chris money.

    5. I don't want to outright defend the mall book, but this might be a better project for Chris to be involved in than claiming fucking ghosts exist. I trust he's smart enough not to expect a million-dollar payday from a regional history book, and if he actually went to this mall a lot (safe assumption), and actually put in the research time (less safe), I say why not?

That said: his other books, and projects that involve writing, don't specifically give me optimism. I'm curious how much hyperbole the word "scandals" carries.
