Chris Has a New Book Out

*emerges from hole* Ugh, winter is the worst...
Hm? No, he hasn't put out a new Irate Gamer video. I think he quit again. Nothing in four months.
Puppet Steve has been the same shit. Algorithm chasing with Squid Game (again, not suitable for kids), along with Roblox and Sonic. Meh...

Instead, I'll bring up something that was shown to me last week. Chris has a new book!
No, it's not the long awaited sequel to Ghost Hunting 2.0 (would that make it Ghost Hunting 3.0?)
Instead it's a photo book about the Sandusky Ohio mall. ... Huh.

I mean, it's pretty harmless. Just pictures of an old mall from Chris' home city. The reviews on Amazon seem to like it. Though I have to wonder where they came from as Chris hasn't promoted the book on any of his main social feeds (according to my informant at least). Maybe he has a private account?
The Amazon page says it was published November 2021, so somehow he managed to avoid promoting it.

Otherwise, there isn't much to say without reading it, and no way in hell am I going to pay $21 to get it.

However, Chris just can't help himself in the description.
The first paragraph is just Bores waxing nostalgic about various shops in the mall.
The second though, this one is a doozy.

Gathering more than 200 images, the original floor map, and the history of every store at every location, author Chris Bores delivers a trip down memory lane as well as never-before-told stories of the scandals and struggles--and the triumphs--that made the Sandusky Mall the place to be.

Scandals?! What scandals?
I actually tried searching "Sandusky Mall scandals", and all I got was articles about Jerry Sandusky (the Penn State football coach that sexually assaulted a multitude of young boys throughout the 90's and 00's), and... links directly to Chris' book.
So either these aren't really scandals, or Chris' idea of a scandal is really minute and pointless. Then again, you could have figured that out when he called Super Mario Bros 2 a "scandal".

But hey, I'm sure this book appeals to the 75k people that live in Erie County. Maybe the people in the surrounding ones too.

... Yep. That's about it.

  1. If anyone is brave enough to buy this overpriced book and read it I'd be happy to hear about it as I was the one that was shown this book by a viewer of mine. I am not spending $21 on a Picture Book (let alone giving money to Bores).

Now I just wonder who Chris is going to blame for any negative reviews since he reads this blog and the comments, Dan for making the post or me being the one that informed him on it.

  2. It's down to $15.15 with $2.64 shipping on abebooks.com.

Or you can go to the Wikipedia page about the mall and read the "History" section (Child World closed in 1992 and later converted to OfficeMax!!!). I wouldn't be shocked if there was a lot of crossover with the book.

  3. At great risk to my mental health, I have read 31 pages of this book. Anybody can do this as there is a free preview on Google Books. It's really not worth the effort though.

The writing is better than what we saw in Ghost Hunting 2.0 but that isn't saying very much. The new book is poorly formatted (Chris, do you know about double spacing?) and while there are errors they are not nearly as humorous as the ones in the first book.

My main criticism is that the history is so rushed and bland. I very much get the impression that Chris worked through this as quickly as he could and it makes for dull reading.

With that said, Chris couldn't resist putting in some strange references. He laments big box stores causing small businesses to close and he illustrates this point by mentioning the Skeksis from The Dark Crystal. He couldn't even get the name of the film right as he calls it "Dark Crystal".

I don't know if the history is accurate or if there is any plagiarized content. I couldn't be arsed to go that far.

    1. Good find, Edge! He claims he "pored through thousands of newspapers and talked to thousands of people" to write the book. Who believes that?

The writing, though, seems adequate enough for a local history book.

    2. The Google Books preview has part of his bibliography. But from what I can tell, all he does is quote article headlines and the date. What publication? It doesn't say. Maybe it's in one of the missing pages.

  4. There is one thing the new book has that Ghost Hunting 2.0 did not. The positive reviews seem to be legitimate. Remember with Ghost Hunting 2.0 Chris botted reviews to inflate the numbers?

  5. Call me overly optimist, call me naive, but if his new book is actually better than Ghost Hunting 2.0, maybe there is still some hope for him. Maybe he can keep improving his writing skills and hopefully one day become a decent writer.

    1. Chris won't be a decent writer until he at least bothers to get shit proofread and actually follows the advice. The formatting errors mentioned above make it apparent that he still just publishes the first draft.

  6. I wonder if Chris still plans on writing that Ghost Hunting 2.0 sequel. Maybe he finally realized that there's no market for ghost hunting bullshit and he will never get from it (since that's clearly what he cares about the most).

  7. Remember how I've said it wouldn't be surprising if Chris is the type of person who would refuse the vaccine? I would not be surprised if Chris watches Joe Rogan and believes Ivermectin can cure you of COVID.

  10. Again Chris Bores is gone dead leaving his 3 fans and 30 haters in the dust again

  11. At this point, BatDan and some of the people on this blog are going to be following Chris for the rest of his life.

  12. Just discovered a new YouTube video called The RISE and FALL of AVGN - A Brief Retrospective.

The brief retrospective is a hair under six hours long.

    2. Wouldn't "brief" imply no more than 15 minutes at most? Not six hours? Nitpicky, but still...

  13. Has Chris still not done anything *checks Irate Gamer* yeah! hasn't done anything in five months.

What's Puppet Steve been up to? Squid Game video with 21k views in a week. Chris is never going to learn from the Skylanders shit from 2013 especially since he admits to not doing Irate Gamer anymore because of low viewership.

If Chris seems content with disappearing off the internet, I guess I can link my Discord Server as an alternate way of staying in touch (though any trolls that enter, I or one of my mods will ban you).

  14. New Post from Bores on FB:

"What do you guys think, should I do another Irate Gamer episode?"

  15. Bores just posted this on his Facebook
"What do you guys think, should I do another Irate Gamer episode?"

  16. Chris posted on Facebook asking if he should make another Irate Gamer episode. I think he needs emotional validation; what kind of response from a group largely made up of IG fans?

Also, for some reason the post is in all caps. I'm just going to assume Chris mistakenly left the Caps key toggled

    1. Looks like the AVGN "crossover" hardly did anything for him. If he gained any new fans, it was an incredibly short-lived time for him. I don't even know what motivation he has to make another IG video, considering those videos are clearly a chore for him to make.

    2. Or he held down the Shift key for too long.

    3. @Silent Spring Even when I and others have made videos about it, I really don't think Chris is fully aware just on how many fans he cost his Irate Gamer channel over the years with his infrequent upload schedule, his spamming of Skylanders videos, his multiple retirements, and his numerous malware apps and box videos.

I think Chris also realizes the popularity of Puppet Steve is waning and he is trying all he can to stay relevant on YouTube.

  17. Next FB-Post from Bores:

"So I've come up with a really really good idea for an Irate Gamer episode. Ran it past a few people and they loved it too. I'm not sure how quickly I can get this episode together because I don't have a lot of free time and I haven't really worked too much on a script. It looks like you guys really want a new episode so I'll try my best to make it happen but it will be put together at a slow pace. But rest assured you'll love what I have in store!"

    1. Promising stuff is his specialty. He delivers finished products too, but I can't recall one that completely lived up to his exuberant hype.

  18. I can already predict what his next IG review will be, I'll be either:

    Metroid (NES)
    The Karate Kid (NES)
    Who Framed Roger Rabbit (NES)
    Beetlejuice (NES)
    Batman: The Video Game (NES)

I mean he sure loves the 80s, a lot more than Seth MacFarlane and Mike Matei!

  19. Chris posted about that "90 minute conversation with a spirit" again. That's the same event that was the basis for Pursuit of the Paranormal. It also happens to be the case that compelled Chris to spam romance authors on Twitter after his first book came out.

The St. Augustine hunt was the one where a blinking light convinced Chris that ghosts could form new relationships after death.

"Exactly ten years ago I conducted a groundbreaking ghost hunt at the St. Augustine Lighthouse where I was able to get a 90 minute interaction with a spirit that changed my whole perspective on Ghost Hunting. That night I became aware that ghosts have personalities, can fall in love, retain their living memories and that there are rules to they afterlife they must abide by. It was mind blowing and set me on the path to figure out the deeper layers of the afterlife. My journey to become a Ghost Behaviorist has been a long one with so many hours of research that is still continuing. I've just scratched the surface of the paranormal world and I can't wait to see what the next 10 years holds!

  22. New FB-Post (alias someone else is to blame for my fall) :

"So it's been leaking lately how all the top media outlets took money from the government to report only what they wanted and provided talking points to them. I just want to let my fans know that the video game world is just as guilty with an underbelly that is really dark. It's one of the main reasons I stopped going to E3 and why I ultimately hung up the Irate Gamer. Its something I've yet to talk about and I could write a book on what I saw and experienced. Really look at my career trajectory in my business during the 2010 era and you'll see I was going to the top of the mountain. There are reasons why that path didn't continue. The entire video game industry is tainted and if you choose not to believe me, here's a small nugget to start making you think that you can research for yourself. The E3 attendance numbers were being completely manipulated. Why else do you think the event started letting regular people into a media-only event and top game developers suddenly decided to pull out? Once you figure that out, then ask why hundreds of media outlets would just suddenly stop covering an event that brought in a huge revenue stream for them if they covered it..."
